Michael Dubois comes back to the podcast to discuss the most excellent trilogy when it comes to doing fan service right, "Bill & Ted". If only Disney had thought about giving "The Rise of Skywalker" to Keanu Reeves and Alex Winters, the galaxy would be what Rufus and Kenobi would consider tranquil. What is there not to like about these films? There is casual homophobia in the first two, but it is fleeting and these films course correct perfectly as they go along. But because of the language used, Cool Movies Darth deemed that this episode's conversation should be left uncensored.

In a career spanning four decades, screenwriter Ed Solomon has worked on some of Hollywoods biggest titles, from X-Men to Charlie’s Angels. But it’s his film, co-written with longtime collaborator Chris Matheson, that may well be his most iconic. 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure remains one of the most wholly original major studio films in recent memory. The 1991 sequel, cowritten by Solomon and Matheson, wasn’t nearly the smash success of its predecessor, but the darker film has gone on to develop a cult of its own in the intervening years. After being batted around for decades, a third film, Bill & Ted Face the Music, finds the writers teaming up once again, as Alex Winters and Keanu Reeves return to reprise their titular roles. In a wide ranging conversation about collaboration, inspiration and working within the studio system, Solomon reflects on his sustained career and why the time was right for a return of his best loved creations.

Our new topic is about exploring and embracing the weird! We’re joined by our good friend Adam Moerder.  Adam has been collaborating with the team at Godmode Records you should check out their music they’ve been doing great work. As we get into the pick John sidetracked a bit to share about a spate of narrative horror podcasts he’s been listening to check out any of the following if you’re a fan of radio drama, or spooky stuff: Limetown The Message The Black Tapes Tanis Lore ___________ pt1: Freaked (Film 1993) Jule’s pick was the inspiration for this topic. Any reason to watch this Alex Winters and Tommy Stern work of art is welcome. The titles alone are worth the weird. Stop Motion Stratacut clay animation at its strangest- rife with Jan Svankmajer nods. The title track is Henry Rollins. Yes that is a wooden Randy Quaid - he may be the best thing about this movie. Actually- these Rastafar-Eyes may be the best thing about this movie. They actually made merchandise for this picture- and they are appropriately weird. You can purchase Freaked on Amazon. Definitely check out Alex Winter’s site to see his other project and his info on the movie. ______________________ NEXT WEEK: Our second pick for Freaks is up. Prepare to hold your nose, close your eyes as we dive into Nu-Metal w/ Korn’s “Freak on a Leash.” You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! In this most excellent episode of the Spiraken Movie Review, Xan and the lovely Bell-chan, review the 1989 Comedy Adventure film, "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" directed by Steven Herek and starring Alex Winters, Keanu Reeves, and George Carlin. Listen as Bell and Xan debate about if the telephone booth is a rip-off of the TARDIS, why going back in time after saying your gonna go back is so important and how awesome this movie really was . Hope you enjoy this episode and please send any comments concerns and ideas on how to make this podcast better. Remember to Listen to the primary podcast The Spiraken Manga Review.
