In a career spanning four decades, screenwriter Ed Solomon has worked on some of Hollywoods biggest titles, from X-Men to Charlie’s Angels. But it’s his film, co-written with longtime collaborator Chris Matheson, that may well be his most iconic. 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure remains one of the most wholly original major studio films in recent memory. The 1991 sequel, cowritten by Solomon and Matheson, wasn’t nearly the smash success of its predecessor, but the darker film has gone on to develop a cult of its own in the intervening years. After being batted around for decades, a third film, Bill & Ted Face the Music, finds the writers teaming up once again, as Alex Winters and Keanu Reeves return to reprise their titular roles. Alex was raised as a devout Mormon in Wales, U.K., served an honorable mission, and was married in the London temple.  Throughout his adult life Alex has served in several significant ward and stake callings including ward bishopric and stake high council. As his acting career developed, Alex was so popular as a media celebrity within the U.K. that the LDS Church offered him a major role in their "I'm a Mormon" PR campaign (which he declined for professional reasons). Over the past year or two Alex developed questions and concerns about LDS church doctrine (e.g., November 2015 LGBT policy) and history (e.g., Joseph Smith's treasure digging, seer stone use, polygamy and polyandry) which led to his loss of faith in Mormonism. This is Alex's story.

Our new topic is about exploring and embracing the weird! We’re joined by our good friend Adam Moerder.  Adam has been collaborating with the team at Godmode Records you should check out their music they’ve been doing great work. As we get into the pick John sidetracked a bit to share about a spate of narrative horror podcasts he’s been listening to check out any of the following if you’re a fan of radio drama, or spooky stuff: Limetown The Message The Black Tapes Tanis Lore ___________ pt1: Freaked (Film 1993) Jule’s pick was the inspiration for this topic. Any reason to watch this Alex Winters and Tommy Stern work of art is welcome. The titles alone are worth the weird. Stop Motion Stratacut clay animation at its strangest- rife with Jan Svankmajer nods. The title track is Henry Rollins. Yes that is a wooden Randy Quaid - he may be the best thing about this movie.
