Bill & Ted creators Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson, along with stars Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves, always assumed Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey would be the last time anyone would see Bill S. Preston Esquire and Ted Theodore Logan together on the big screen ever again.Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey hadn't done the business of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, and so all four men went their own ways in Hollywood, each carving their own successful careers. It wasn't until a random red carpet comment in 2005 that any of them thought seriously about reviving the characters, and not until 2008 that they got together at a BBQ to discuss ideas. And they ended up having a great idea, one they all wanted to do, but it meant writing a spec script, without having any of the rights in place to get this legacy sequel actually made. And then they found out MGM was planning their own reboot called Bill & Ted's Friggin' Badass Voyage...I would love to hear your thoughts on Bill & Ted Face the Music !Verbal Diorama is now an award-winning podcast! Welcome to the 34th episode of Genre Equality - a monthly podcast dedicated to discussing all things on the geekier side of pop culture. From horror and fantasy to superheroes and sci-fi - we got you covered. Bill & Ted's most excellent third entry, the 2nd season of anti-superhero satire The Boys, Disney's wuxia-styled live-action Mulan, and the return of volleyball anime Haikyuu!! are our main topics. But we also discuss Janelle Monae's twisty slavery horror, Ridley Scott's biblical sci-fi series, Netflix's mission to Mars, an alt-history where Africa colonized Europe, Gillian Flynn's show about an apocalyptic comic, a faithfully nightmarish Italian retelling of a dark fairytale, and more! Plus, Hidzir highlights Kelly Sue DeConnick's feminist sci-fi prison comic "Bitch Planet", and Kim Hyun Sook's graphic novel "Banned Book Club" about South Korea's oppressive censorship in the 1980s. ψήφους μέχρι το αναμφισβήτητο Νο.1.Αρχίζουμε με ένα rewind στο υποτιμημένο Ant-Man and the Wasp του 2018 με τον πιο special καλεσμένο! Τι έγραφε το αστείο e-mail που του έστειλε ο Paul Rudd; Ποιες ιδέες του επιστήμονα επέδρασαν καθοριστικά την πορεία του Marvel Cinematic Universe και του Infinity Saga; Ποια ήταν η καλύτερη συμβουλή που έδωσε στη Marvel για τους υπερήρωές της και τι μπορούμε να περιμένουμε από το Ant-Man: Quantumania; Και ποια φάρσα του προκάλεσε υπαρξιακή ταραχή στον Keanu Reeves στα γυρίσματα του Bill & Ted Face the Music;Επίσης ανατρέχουμε στα highlights του Ant-Man and the Wasp, αναλύουμε το box office του και μιλάμε για τυχόν βελτιώσεις που θα κάναμε στην ταινία. This week on On Story we’ll hear from Ed Solomon, the screenwriter behind Men in Black and the co-writer of the Bill & Ted series. Solomon has had a major film released in each of the last 5 decades starting in 1989 with his first feature Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, which he co-wrote with Chris Matheson. That film has spawned 2 sequels, both written by Solomon and Matheson, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, and 2020’s Bill & Ted Face the Music. Solomon wrote Men in Black, Now You See Me, and HBO’s interactive series Mosaic. I spoke with Solomon about his writing and the process behind deciding which ideas to pursue at the 2020 Austin Film Festival.

Finally, 2020 is coming to an end. This year has brought a lot of bad things and one of the most painful has been the impact on the movie industry. December is usually reserved for Through the Cracks, that is movies that Jonathan (@berkreviews) and Corey (@coreyrstarr) missed seeing during the year. Despite theatrical releases being basically non-existent, Jonathan and Corey still found four movies to fill out the month. As far as the podcast goes, each episode features an in-depth review of the movie for the week. They begin with a spoiler-free review before diving in completely after the needed spoiler warning. However, before getting into the review of the week, Jonathan and Corey discuss what other movies they've seen since the last episode as well as anything else they feel like discussing. To help them decide which of the many films to watch each month they started creating themes for them all. Week 4: Bill and Ted Face the Music (2020) The return of Keanu Reeves as Ted and Alex Winter as Bill was enough to lore Corey to give this a watch. Jonathan saw this in the summer, but is ready and willing to see it again. “Once told they’d save the universe during a time-traveling adventure, 2 would-be rockers from San Dimas, California find themselves as middle-aged dads still trying to crank out a hit song and fulfill their destiny.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/berkreviewsmovieclub/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/berkreviewsmovieclub/support

The last time Alex Winter was on the show (his second appearance), we discussed his recently launched crowdfunding campaign to produce a documentary about Frank Zappa. With the film finally out five years later, the director joins us again to discuss the process of combing through the legendary musician’s archives to create a portrait of one of the 20th century’s most fascinating musicians. In spite of everything, it’s been a fruitful year for Winter, even beyond last month’s release of Zappa. In July, the filmmaker release Showbiz Kids, an unflinching look at another subject close to his heart, having been in the public eye since early teenage years. The following month, Winter reprised his most iconic role, playing opposite lifelong friend Keanu Reeves in the long-awaited sequel, Bill & Ted Face the Music.

This one took a bit of time to reduce down to the essentials. As always, we close out the show with the newest THROWBACK CHALLENGE. It's a self-demanded viewing of Yasujirô Ozu's 1953 classic, TOKYO STORY. There's no good excuse for us waiting this long to finally see such an esteemed piece of cinema. Hear where we land on it. It's been one of the busiest weeks of the year for pop culture. Between DCFandome a little over a week ago, to four days of game showcases with Gamescom. It's so big that we can't contain it in a single episode. In this episode we'll go over the biggest announcements from DCFandome & all the games shown off on Opening Night Live of Gamescom. We run down info about each game and give our opinions. We also touch on the rumors of a new Nintendo Switch model, the terrible idea that is a live action Powerpuff Girls show, the battle pass system in the Avengers game and why it isn't bad, and we have a nice mini review of Bill & Ted Face the Music (spoiler, it's most excellent). Rest in Peace Chadwick Boseman. You were a superhero on screen & in real life, tell Stan we say hi. Wakanda Forever. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/culture-popped/message

Strange things are afoot at the Circle K as Brian and Rich embark on a discussion of two stand out “musical” buddy comedies: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Wayne's World! We'd love to just let these two films speak for themselves, eschewing a deep and thoughtful analysis and subsequent unearthing of the hidden truths to be found therein in favor of taking them at face value, but we can't do that. We're Track Lunch. The guys get into their first memories of seeing these movies as well as similarities and differences and their favorite moments. All of this as a prelude to a review of the upcoming sequel: Bill & Ted Face the Music on the next episode! Little known fact: My very favorite song to sing is "If I Could Turn Back Time" by Cher. I tend to think it's because Cher has a nice alto voice I can sing along to with confidence. No super high notes here but plenty of delicious angst. But you know what? Now that I think about it, I'm wondering if my subconscious attached itself to this song because of my unrelated (but maybe related?) love of time travel stories. Perhaps part of me wishes I could, in fact, turn back time. Who knows? Regardless, the truth is that I LOVE TIME TRAVEL STORIES. And so does my friend (and friend of the show), Amanda White. So today, the time has come (see what I did there?) for us to talk about ALL our favorite time travel stories in books, TV shows, and movies. Now, I'll admit that we haven't read or watched all the time travel stories out there. But the ones we have? WE LOVE. So take a listen and let us know which time travel stories are your favorites. Which ones did we forget? How did YOU feel about The Knight Before Christmas? MENTIONED IN THE SHOW: About Time Deja Vu (the time I tried to understand science) The Lake House Kate & Leopold Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure Back to the Future The Knight Before Christmas Edge of Tomorrow (also known as Live. Die. Repeat.) Timeless (insert heart eyes here) Doctor Who Travelers Hindsight (one of my very favorites) Being Erica ALSO MENTIONED IN THE SHOW: The Couch Podcast, S2E21 (Santa Claus movies) Bill & Ted Face the Music (yes, a new Bill & Ted movie coming out this summer) Time Trial graphic novel series by Rysa Walker NOT-SO-GUILTY PLEASURES: Survivor, season 40 (HOW is that even possible?!) Virgin River on Netflix (So. Good.) DON'T FORGET: Find Amanda at her website or on Instagram, and find me at marycarver.com or on Instagram. We'd love to connect with you!
