“Prospector” is a special documentary telling the incredible story of Paddy Hannan from Gorteen near Quin, Co Clare. In the early 1860s, Paddy left Clare for the goldfields of Australia and New Zealand. In 1893, he and two friends made a discovery that sparked one of the great Western Australian Gold Rushes. That find, in the scorching Australian outback, ultimately led to the founding of the city of Kalgoorlie where the main thoroughfare is named Hannan Street. This programme has been produced to mark the 100th anniversary of Paddy Hannan's death in Melbourne on November 4th 1925. “Prospector” is the story of Paddy Hannan and has been produced by Pat Flynn and was recorded in Clare and Kalgoorlie-Boulder, WA. Kiitos ihana Hanna tarinasi jakamisesta!Podcastin tunnusbiisi Meri sisälläni, Jutta Halmetoja.*** Seuraa Instagramissa @vapaasynnytyssuomi ***Liity ainutlaatuiseen naisten yhteisöön osoitteessa www.vapaasynnytyssuomi.fi Haluatko jakaa tarinasi podcastissa? In this episode, host Dr. Bradley Block welcomes Dr. Catherine Hannan and Dr. Justin West, to dispel common myths and share essential knowledge for physicians. They discuss the foundational role of wound closure in plastic surgery, from complex trauma cases to aesthetic procedures, and provide guidance on when emergency or primary care doctors should involve plastic surgeons (hint: think “jigsaw puzzle” wounds). The duo also explores wound care principles, such as gentle tissue handling and early hematoma management, and addresses myths about fat grafting and mammograms, highlighting risks like calcifications and diagnostic challenges. Finally, they clarify the distinction between board-certified plastic surgeons and cosmetic surgeons, emphasizing the rigorous training required to handle complex complications. Packed with practical tips and candid insights, this episode empowers physicians to make informed referrals and patients to choose qualified surgeons.Three Actionable Takeaways:Know When to Call Plastic Surgery – For complex wounds with unclear anatomic landmarks or tissue deficits (e.g., dog bites or avulsions), involve a plastic surgeon early; simple linear lacerations can often be managed by ER or urgent care teams.Prioritize Gentle Wound Care – Handle tissues delicately, avoid excessive retraction, use drains proactively to prevent hematomas, and opt for simple, evidence-based dressings like dilute acetic acid over costly skin substitutes.Educate Patients on Surgeon Credentials – Clarify the difference between board-certified plastic surgeons (with extensive residency training) and cosmetic surgeons (with less rigorous certification), ensuring patients understand the expertise needed for safe outcomes.About the Show:Succeed In Medicine covers patient interactions, burnout, career growth, personal finance, and more. If you're tired of dull medical lectures, tune in for real-world lessons we should have learned in med school!About the Guests:Dr. Catherine Hannan and Dr. Justin West are board-certified plastic surgeons who trained together at Georgetown University's integrated residency program. Dr. West established his practice in Orange County, California, specializing in aesthetic breast surgery. Send us a textWhen communication becomes challenging, how do we maintain the deep, meaningful connections that make life worth living? This provocative question lies at the heart of our conversation with Gael Hannan, writer, advocate, and bimodal hearing device user who brings remarkable insight into the intersection of hearing loss and intimate relationships. Gail's perspective that "connection with others is as vital as air, water, food—and wine =) sets the tone for an exploration that goes far beyond technological solutions. She introduces us to the concept of "purpose-driven communication"—the deliberate structuring of interactions that allows for meaningful exchange despite hearing challenges. From morning routines with her husband to navigating arguments and emotional moments, Gael reveals the extra layer of consciousness required when hearing loss affects relationships. What makes this discussion particularly valuable is its practical wisdom. Gael offers strategies for maintaining presence, creating structured opportunities for communication, and shifting focus from "hearing" to "communicating." She emphasizes that hearing aids work better when complemented by behavioral changes and attitude shifts, encouraging both those with hearing loss and their communication partners to develop deeper understanding. Whether you're a hearing care professional seeking to better serve your patients, someone navigating relationships with hearing loss, or a communication partner trying to bridge the gap, this conversation offers profound guidance for moving beyond technological fixes to human solutions. Hasidism, Haskalah, Zionism (U Pennsylvania Press, 2023) reveals how political and literary dialogues and conflicts between the Hebrew literature of the Hasidism, the Jewish Enlightenment, and Zionism interacted with each other in the nineteenth century. Hannan Hever uses postcolonial theories and theories of nationality to analyze how Jews used literature to make sense of hostility directed toward Jews from their European “host” countries and to set forth their own ideas and preferences regarding their status, control, and treatment. In doing so, Hever theorizes the Enlightenment's intellectual aims and cultural influences, tracking how the models of integration crucial to Haskalah gave way to Jewish nationalism in the twentieth century. The readings in this book are theoretically informed, setting forward novel claims based on detailed textual analyses of hasidic tales, Haskalah satires, and Zionist narratives. Thus, this book tackles a major interpretative problem visible at the core of modern Hebrew literature—its radical difficulty in distinguishing between the theological components of modern Jewish discourse and its national identity. Who gets to preach in your congregation? Is the pulpit reserved for just one voice, or could it be a place of shared storytelling and wisdom? This week on Transforming Engagement: The Podcast, we continue our Reimagining Preaching series with the Rev. Dr. Shauna Hannan, a professor, author, and preacher who is passionate about equipping the whole congregation for the ministry of proclamation. Dr. Hannan challenges the traditional model of preaching as a solo endeavor and instead invites pastors to develop preaching collaborations—empowering lay leaders to find their voices and engage Scripture in new ways. She shares practical ways to start small, build confidence, and create a culture where multiple voices contribute to the life of the church. What happens when pastors shift from simply delivering sermons to facilitating conversations around Scripture? What if instead of “feedback” after a sermon, we engage in “feed forward” before the sermon even begins? Dr. Hannan offers fresh insights on how inviting laypeople into the preaching process not only strengthens their confidence but also deepens relationships within the church community. Whether you're a seasoned preacher or someone exploring how to step into a preaching role, this episode is full of wisdom on how to make preaching more collaborative, inclusive, and transformative. Join us as we reimagine what it means to share the gospel together! == Continue the Conversation at the Reimagining Preaching Conference: May 3, 2025 Join the Center for Transforming Engagement in Shoreline, Washington, for this skills-based conference equipping clergy, church staff, and lay preachers to bring the Word to life in Cascadia. Hannan Parvizian is Co-founder and CEO of Exowatt. Exowatt turned heads earlier this year when it announced a $20 million Seed round with backers including Andreessen Horowitz, Atomic, and Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI. The company has developed a novel combined solution for energy generation and storage that concentrates heat from the sun, stores it as thermal energy, and converts it on demand to electricity. They've primarily focused their go-to-market around the data center boom driven by AI and argue that their solution is purpose-built for the massive energy need of data centers. We were eager to hear from Hannan as the rapid increase in energy demand from hyperscalers and AI remains a huge topic in the energy space, especially as we work to transition away from fossil fuels while also meeting AI-fueled demand. In this episode, we explore Hannan's insights on the limitations of "traditional" solar PV and lithium-ion battery storage in meeting these needs—and how Exowatt aims to bridge this gap.In this episode, we cover: [2:01] An overview of Exowatt[4:56] Exowatt's technology and approach[6:29] Reasons for pursuing a thermal energy storage solution[14:46] Hannan's previous startup experience[16:45] How Exowatt's Seed round came together[20:07] Response to skepticism about Exowatt's technology[24:41] Technical details on the Exowatt P3 system[29:09] Geographical and land use considerations[34:33] Comparison of Exowatt's approach to other thermal energy storage solutions[38:59] Exowatt's manufacturing and deployment strategy[41:48] Pricing and economics of the company's system[43:10] Current deployments and future growth plans[43:44] Hannan's perspectives on Exowatt's competitive advantages and challenges[46:02] Where Exowatt needs helpEpisode recorded on Oct 10, 2024 (Published on Nov 7, 2024) Stay Connected with MCJ:Cody Simms on LinkedIn | XVisit mcj.vcSubscribe to the MCJ NewsletterEnjoyed this episode? In this conversation, Whitney Goodman interviews Gabriel, also known as The Indomitable Black Man, about his journey to becoming a content creator who promotes respectful or gentle parenting. They discuss the challenges of being a black man in the gentle parenting space and the misconceptions surrounding discipline and abuse. Gabriel emphasizes teaching and guiding children through discipline rather than resorting to physical punishment. They also explore the long-term effects of abusive parenting on adults, including anxiety, depression, and difficulties with self-regulation. The conversation explores the impact of spanking and abuse, the importance of striving for more than 'fine' in parenting, the power imbalance between adults and children, the denial and accountability of parents, the cycle of bare minimum fatherhood, and breaking generational patterns. Takeaways Spanking and abuse can have long-term negative effects on children, leading to physical and mental health issues. Parents should strive for more than just 'fine' in their parenting, aiming to provide the best for their children and create a positive legacy. The power imbalance between adults and children should be recognized, and physical discipline should be replaced with effective communication and guidance. Parents need to acknowledge and take accountability for the trauma they may have caused their children, rather than denying or minimizing it. Fatherhood should go beyond the bare minimum of providing for children's basic needs, and fathers should actively lead, guide, and support their children. Breaking generational patterns and cycles of trauma is essential for creating healthier and more positive family dynamics. Have a question for Whitney? Call Home at 866-225-5466. Hebrew Literature and the 1948 War: Essays on Philology and Responsibility (Brill, 2019) is the first book-length study that examines the conspicuous absence of the Palestinian Nakba in modern Hebrew literature. Through a rigorous reading of canonical Hebrew literary texts, the author addresses the general failure of Hebrew literature to take responsibility for the Nakba. The book illustrates how the language of modern Hebrew poetry and fiction reflects symptoms of Israeli national violence, in which the literary language produces a picture of Palestine as an arena where the violent clash between the perpetrators and the victims takes place. In doing so, the author develops a new and critical paradigm for reflecting on the moral responsibility of literature and the ethics of reading. The book includes close readings of the works of Avot Yeshurun, S. Yizhar, Nathan Alterman, Yehuda Amichai, Yitzhak Laor, and Amos Oz, among others. Learn more about your ad choices. Merry olde England isn't so merry these days, as its police force has been busy arresting citizens for posting “offensive” opinions on social media. One police commissioner even threatened to extradite Elon Musk, along with other Americans, for disregarding the United Kingdom's anti-hate-speech laws. The American Bill of Rights drew many of its provisions straight from the tradition of English common law, which now seems so distant from the country's censorious policies. Matt Kibbe is joined by Daniel Hannan, a Conservative Party member of the House of Lords, to find out what's going on with our neighbors across the pond. Hannan argues that these speech regulations are a return to the prosecution of blasphemy that was once common, only with modern social justice tenets substituted for religious ones.
