I've complained about franchisors — even great ones. But it wasn't until I experienced fear-based leadership firsthand that I truly understood what good partnerships actually look like.   In this solo episode of Franchise Secrets, I break down the partnership levers behind my best franchise deals — the exact ways partnerships have allowed me to scale across franchising, investing, advisory roles, and brand building without working nonstop or needing to own everything myself.   From early family partnerships to building Front Street, I walk through the real-world lessons that shaped how I evaluate partners today — including the difference between control and leverage, why fear kills franchise systems, and how the right partners help you build a much bigger pie.   If you're a franchisor, franchisee, or investor trying to grow smarter (not just harder), this episode will give you a framework you can actually use.   Timestamps:   00:00 – Complaining About Franchisors (Even the Great Ones) 02:25 – Why Leverage Is the Foundation of Great Partnerships 02:47 – Partnering With Family: Lessons From My Parents 04:47 – Why I Don't Need to Own 100% of the Business 06:53 – Lever #1: Distribution You Can't Buy Overnight 10:21 – Lever #2: Credibility and Becoming "The Franchise Guy" 14:03 – Lever #3: Speed, Alignment, and Moving Without Delay 18:04 – Lever #4: Insight and Specialized Expertise 22:03 – Lever #5: Capital and the Solo Salon Studios Story 30:32 – The Ultimate Test: When 1 + 1 Must Equal 11   Connect with Erik Van Horn:

In this final message of our Costly Discipleship series, Pastor Sean Gasperetti reminds us that in the kingdom of God, “the great ones are servants.” Looking at Matthew 20, he teaches that true greatness begins with Jesus' own suffering, continues with our death to self, and is modeled perfectly in the way Jesus gave His life as a ransom for many. This sermon calls us to follow Christ by embracing humility, laying down our agenda, and serving others the way He first served us.

Today, Don is one of the most trusted voices on high performance, championship culture, and leadership, working with Fortune 500 companies and elite sports programs alike. He's also the host of the popular Corporate Competitor podcast, where he explores the intersection of sports and leadership with world-class performers.Reflection questionsDon shared the powerful story of Warrick Dunn's journey to forgiveness. Reflect on a time when you struggled to forgive someone who wronged you. What steps could you take to move toward forgiveness, and how might this transformation impact your leadership and personal growth?  In our conversation, Don emphasized that great athletes "hate to lose more than they love to win" while taking complete ownership of their results. How do you currently respond to failure or setbacks? What specific changes could you make to embrace radical ownership while maintaining a healthy competitive drive? We discussed how the best leaders and athletes understand their success depends on who they surround themselves with. Evaluate your current "inner circle" - both professionally and personally. Who elevates you, and where might you need to make changes to better support your goals and values? Don highlighted the importance of celebrating "great teammate behaviors" rather than just individual achievements. What specific actions could you implement in your team or organization to recognize and reward those who make others better? The concept of "coaching beyond the scoreboard" was central to our discussion. What does this mean to you personally? My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Sue Toth, author of the book about book coaching and editing. For the past 20 years, Sue's specialty has been in collaborating as an editor with fiction authors to turn their books into the ones that readers can't put down. She works with authors on book coaching and developmental editing.   Sue has been a lover of the English language for as long as she's been able to read. You know the kid who had a book and a flashlight under the covers long after she was supposed to be asleep? That was Sue. The one who carried a book everywhere and had her nose stuck in It whenever possible? Also Sue.   Sue's entire career has been dedicated to either diving into her own editing projects or teaching others how to do it well. She taught fiction editing at the University of San Diego and journalism and writing at the college level.   In the rare times she's not reading, Sue enjoys being with her family, dancing to 80s rock and roll, and watching New York Mets or Jets games.   Subscribe to Online for Authors to learn about more great books! https://www.youtube.com/@onlineforauthors?sub_confirmation=1   Join the Novels N Latte Book Club community to discuss this and other books with like-minded readers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/3576519880426290   You can follow Author Sue Toth Website: www.suetoth.com FB: @Sue Toth Editing Services IG: @suetothediting LinkedIn: @Sue Toth   Teri M Brown, Author and Podcast Host: https://www.terimbrown.com FB: @TeriMBrownAuthor IG: @terimbrown_author X: @terimbrown1   Want to be a guest on Online for Authors? SISTERHOOD OF SWEAT - Motivation, Inspiration, Health, Wealth, Fitness, Authenticity, Confidence and Empowerment

Today on Sisterhood of Sweat, I had the pleasure of interviewing the incredible Susie Abrams. Susie is a true renaissance woman - a former top-ranked tennis player, accomplished actress, and now the host of her own podcast called Great Ones. We discussed Susie's remarkable work ethic and how it was forged through her athletic pursuits, as well as her lifelong passion for storytelling that led her to acting. Susie also shared her inspiring perspective on turning tragedy into opportunity, using the devastating Malibu fires that destroyed her home as a catalyst for personal growth. It was a powerful conversation filled with insights on finding balance, following your calling, and embodying your highest self. I'm thrilled to share Susie's story with all of you.    Questions I asked: ·      Where did you get your work ethic? ·      What brought you into acting? ·      Can you tell us a little bit about the experience of getting the role of Jessica Jones, since you had put it on your vision board 6 months prior? ·      What is your process with vision boards since we are getting close to New Year's resolutions? ·      What did you do to move forward in the moment when you lost everything in the Malibu fires? ·      How do you find balance in this ever-changing industry? ·      What is your why?   Topics Discussed: ·      Athletic background and work ethic ·      Early acting interests and pursuits ·      Deciding to seriously pursue acting ·      Manifesting a dream role ·      Creating a new podcast concept ·      Overcoming the loss of her home ·      Healing through neurofeedback ·      Balancing career and purpose ·      Storytelling as a calling ·      Spiritual growth and potential   Quotes from the show: ·      I think visualization is really helpful. I heard of his recent passing and thought it would be very appropriate to replay a spectacular interview I was privileged to have with him back in 2022. Do you have advice that you've heard that you use on almost every single procedure? I do. And it came from today's guest, Dr. John Burgess. Dr. Burgess is the assistant Dean for Clinical Research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham as well as Director of the Graduate Biomaterials Program and was recently featured on the main stage at the Spear Summit 2022.  But I heard John at the Spring Vedder society meeting some years back and some of the things he said have stayed with me to this day. It was a true pleasure to get to talk with John about what he does, how materials research should be done and how dentists can be better at understanding materials. How does someone get in to biomaterials research? Clinical research at LSU How to find unbiased information...how do we evaluate literature? Is the research measuring what they think it's measuring? Bevels on posterior composites? How do we test this? (spoiler alert: don't bevel occlusal margins) The best material is "abuse tolerant." How do patients get screened for clinical research? NCCLs (noncarious cervical lesions) and the controversy surrounding them New chemistry Read the instructions more often than you think you should! "Dentists don't read" Manufacturers take their instructions very seriously...you should, too.
