The Atlanta Braves are gearing up for their home opener in a week, and the team is excited for the upcoming season. Braves President and CEO Derek Schiller is thrilled with the team's performance and expects high attendance this year. The stadium has added new features, including new food and beverage options, and digital systems to speed up food service. Some of the new items include The Cleanup Burger, which has four grilled beef patties topped with golden hash browns, hickory smoked bacon, cheese and a sunny side-up fried egg, served on a fresh buttermilk Belgian waffle with maple syrup Another new item is The Closer, an all-beef hot dog wrapped in mozzarella-whipped potatoes, fried golden brown and served with spicy mayo. Fans can also visit new spaces, such as Blooper's Clubhouse, and explore the Digital Truist Park. The Braves have also welcomed new players, and the team is looking forward to an exciting season ahead. The Atlanta Braves have unveiled their Nike City Connect uniform, which they will debut in their game against the San Diego Padres on April 8. The uniform is a modernized version of the iconic 1974 Braves uniform and pays tribute to the enduring character and legacy of Hank Aaron. The uniform features nods to Aaron's impact on the Braves and baseball, including the "715" graphic on the inside collar and his motto, "Keep Swinging #44," above the jocktag. The Braves will wear the City Connect jerseys every Saturday home game for the remainder of the 2023 season. A portion of the proceeds from the Nike Atlanta Braves City Connect Collection will benefit the Henry Louis Aaron Fund, which supports increasing minority participation in baseball and investing in diverse entrepreneurship. The collection will go on sale to fans April 1st. The Braves Clubhouse store at the Battery will allow A-List members early access at 10:00 AM on Saturday to shop the collection, before opening to the general public at 11. Adventure Outdoors, a popular gun store in Smyrna, and its supporters, including four Republican members of Congress, are criticizing an inspection of the store by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, calling it government overreach. The store's management is concerned about the number of agents, 16, and that they came from out of state. The ATF says the store was randomly selected, and that all federal firearm licensees undergo inspections. The inspection will likely end Thursday or Friday, and the store will not be inspected again for a year or two. Adventure Outdoors has previously been involved in a lawsuit with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who accused the store of creating a public nuisance with illegal sales of firearms that ended up on the streets of New York. The store is a popular campaign stop for Republicans. Last year, Governor Brian Kemp spoke there, announcing his support for a bill, which eventually became state law, allowing people to carry guns in public without a permit. Also last year, Herschel Walker held a campaign rally at the store with Kemp. In 2021, Donald Trump Jr. spoke there in support of gun rights. On Thursday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is widely speculated to run for president in 2024, will hold an event there. First Baptist Church Marietta has welcomed its new pastor, Brandon Owen, from Nashville, Tennessee. He comes to the church with a diverse background, having previously been a basketball coach and a teacher of Bible classes. Owen's transition from the court to the pulpit made things easier for him and his wife as they juggled busy careers and raising two children. As his first role as lead pastor, he wants First Baptist Marietta to be a good friend to Marietta and for the community to see it as a helpful and thriving church. The church chose Owen because of his relational and diverse approach to people of all ages. A motorcyclist died after crashing into a car while being chased by police in Acworth. The motorcyclist died at the scene while the Honda's passenger was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Acworth police said they were not involved in the pursuit. The identities of the motorcyclist and the Honda driver were not released. A 28-year-old man, Willie Elbert Kidd Jr., has been sentenced to 85 years in prison by a Cobb Superior Court judge for assaulting four women at a staffing agency's office in Marietta. Kidd assaulted the women, including stabbing one with a knife and severely damaging the office, in June 2022. He was found guilty by a Cobb County jury on four counts of aggravated assault, one count of false imprisonment, one count of possession of a knife during the commission of a felony, and one count of second-degree criminal damage to property.
