He also detailed the role that focus has played in Life Time's evolution. Programmamaker Bahram Sadeghi doet weinig aan introspectie, in tegenstelling tot Wilbert. Neal Baram is the featured guest on this powerful episode of "The Father's Truth." Neal shares a deeply personal and compelling story of his life as a father fighting for custody and dealing with the aftermath of allegations of abuse directed towards his daughter by her mother. His tale spans over three decades, marking moments of intense legal struggle, emotional pain, and ultimately, personal triumph. Though not much is mentioned about his professional history or achievements, it's evident that his experiences have granted him profound insights into fatherhood, resilience, and the complexities of custodial disputes. In this poignant episode of "The Father's Truth," listeners are invited on a journey through one father's harrowing battle for custody and the safety of his daughter, spanning thirty years. As Neal Baram opens up about his past, listeners are drawn into a world where familial bonds are tested, and the quest for justice takes unexpected turns. Neal recounts the initial shock of being sued for custody and child support when his daughter was living with him in a stable environment. The situation escalates when his daughter discloses being molested by her mother, prompting Neal to seek legal recourse. What follows is a legal labyrinth, where a judge dispassionately strips Neal of custody without a formal hearing. The episode delves into themes of wrongful accusations, resilience in the face of a biased legal system, and the emotional toll on both the guest and his family. Key revelations during the conversation reveal Neal's struggle with threats, manipulation of court systems, and the tension between the search for truth and the preservation of family stability. These stories highlight the fragility of the legal process and the lasting impact it can have on families. Neal's emotional narrative is a testament to a father's unwavering love and the transformative power of commitment, as he narrates the growth and eventual independence of his daughter. Neal grappled with a custody and child support suit despite providing a stable, caring home for his daughter, whereas his ex-wife was in a less stable situation. A judge removed Neal's custody rights without a formal hearing, solely based on his perception of the situation, which emphasizes the potential for misuse of power within the judicial system. Neal's wife played a crucial role in helping their daughter overcome the trauma of her early years, showing the significance of healing and support within the family unit. Despite years of suffering and loss, including the tragic death of Neal's daughter and later his wife, Neal views his daughter's life as a success story due to her strength and the positive impact she made on others. Neal's resilience and the unwavering commitment to his daughter are highlights of his story, showcasing the depth of paternal love and advocacy. "No matter what, don't give up. Never give up on your kids. They need you, and you never know how things will turn out." "You really got screwed. And you have my sympathy, but there's nothing I can do." "My wife became, like, an old soldier that had PTSD in their old age." "Enjoy your afternoon with your daughter." - from the judge, following a devastating legal decision. "It turned into such an awesome person and used whatever short life she h --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thefatherstruth/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thefatherstruth/support

At the age of 60, Steve Ault faced a Parkinson's diagnosis and the option of Levodopa for symptom management. Rejecting only temporary relief, he spiraled into depression until a chance meeting with Bahram in August 2017 offered hope for a healthy life at 120. Encouraged by his family, Steve underwent a radical transformation, altering his diet, practicing extended fasting, and engaging in rigorous mountain biking. Within a year, he completed the challenging Leadville Trail 100 MTB Race, conquering a 100-mile course with 12,000 feet of climb at over 10,000 feet elevation in under 12 hours, earning a coveted buckle. Now 70, Steve has triumphed in multiple Leadville races, accumulating biking miles and effectively reversing his Parkinson's symptoms in a truly miraculous journey of resilience and transformation.Kyle also reveals a new sport for this years Games: climbing.
A speech by Ed Hiserodt, science writer for "The New American." Edward Franklin Hiserodt III, born in Memphis, Tenn., on November 6, 1939. Edward Franklin Hiserodt III "slipped the surly bonds of earth," the afternoon of November 28, in his bed, reading a good book. He was the only son and eldest child of Edward F. Hiserodt, Jr. and Mary Louise Rapp Hiserodt, who also raised a daughter, Martha Louise Hiserodt Johnson, all of whom preceded him in death. Known as "Eddie" by family and "Ed" by his many friends, he is survived by his wife, Kaye Denise Corder Hiserodt; and children, Scott, Benjamin (Julie), Jennifer Cormier (Paul), Jill Snyder (Edward), Stuart, and Philip (Leanne), Alex Maitland (Rebecca); grandchildren, Jeremy (41) and Alecia (36), Bahram (36) and Arian (34) Banki, Kyle (31) and James (27) Maitland, Clay (29) and Regan (27) Etheridge, Harrison (21), Sola (20), and Rocket (13) Snyder, Wilder (8) and Ridgely (5) Hiserodt. Ed's undying loyalty to the Crimson Tide began with his college career at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where he joined Sigma Chi Fraternity and went on to earn a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering in 1962. After graduating and earning a private pilot's license that year, he worked in a number of engineering capacities, including as a NASA contractor on the Saturn V project in Huntsville, from 1962-1966, and as an electrical manufacturer's representative for Ransom Sales in Memphis. In 1970, he moved to Little Rock, Ark., and in 1983, founded Controls & Power, an engineering representative firm for electrical control manufacturers, of which he was president for the remainder of his life. Ed prided himself on achieving his bucket list items of owning his own plane and making a hole-in-one. But he never got around to climbing Mount Everest (too much trouble). Passion for liberty was his raison d'etre, and he lived a life supporting those causes that restore and safeguard the freedoms we inherited from those who died to ensure we would have them. A life member of The John Birch Society and former chairman of the American Conservative Union, his special interest rested in promoting nuclear energy and exposing the myth of so-called "renewables." As such, he was a member of the Society for Accurate Radiation Information and Environmentalists for Nuclear Power. A long-time contributor to The New American Magazine on science and energy issues, in 2005, he penned his magnum opus, "Under Exposed: What if Radiation is Actually Good for You?", currently in its second printing of the English edition, and which has also been translated into Dutch and French.

In Season 5, episode 7, we dive into designing for the widest audience possible with Sina Bahram, a computer scientist and accessibility consultant who is passionate about inclusive design. He shares his personal experience as a blind individual and his dedication to improving accessibility for all. Sina's work on inclusive design methodology has been honored by many organizations, including being named one of President Obama's Champions of Change in 2012, as well as being named one of the two inaugural Catalyst award recipients by the Themed Entertainment Association in 2022. Inclusive design, according to Sina, is about shifting the responsibility of accessibility from individuals to society as a whole. It's a game-changer that benefits everyone, just like how closed captioning is not only used by deaf people, but by people who have issues processing audio information, those who speak another language, or anyone trying to follow the news in a loud bar. Sina emphasizes the importance of considering inclusive design early in the design process. This allows accessibility solutions to be integrated in a comprehensive, seamless and efficient manner, rather than retrospectively added late in the design process in an audit-based approach. Sina's message is clear: inclusive design is essential, and it's all about embracing diversity, breaking barriers, and creating experiences that bring people together. My hope is that this conversation inspires more designers to consider inclusive access so we can welcome more and more people into the escape room community. Transcript of this episode: Freddy (00:20): Welcome aboard the Themed Attraction Podcast, where we take you for a ride... through the wonderful world of theme park design that is. You've just set sail on an unmatched journey of discovery and discussion with theme park industry master of the craft. I'm your skipper, Freddy Martin, and riding the rippling river with me is theme park designer, master planner, and Chief Creative Officer for Storyland studios, Mel McGowan. Which way is the river taken us today, Mel? Mel (00:47): Freddy, we've got a unique episode on the horizon day. As we interview one of the Themed Entertainment Association's first ever Catalyst Award recipients, Sina Bahram. Sina is the founder of Prime Access Consulting. That's an inclusive design firm that helps attraction designers implement accessible solutions that make knowledge, culture, and technology available to the widest possible audience. And that we are so excited to have him as part of our extended team for a very special project, which I'm hoping you're allowed to talk about here. Freddy (01:16): Maybe a little bit. Sina is unique. I had the pleasure of hearing him speak at the TEA Summit and I knew his story would blow our audience away. So I had to ask him to be on the show. I immediately asked him to join us for an interview and he didn't disappoint. I'm telling you. His passion and enthusiasm for helping create experiences for everyone is infectious. I dare you to match his enthusiasm. All righty folks, keep your hands, arms feet and legs inside the boat, 'cause This episode is about to leave the dock. Hit it, Sam. Mel (02:04): You know, Freddy, when the ADA or Americans with disability act passed in 1990 that was a pretty groundbreaking deal for the certainly the architecture industry for the real estate development industry. You know, and actually we're excited to be working with one of the catalysts that really kind of worked to get hat passed. You know, and it has radically, of course changed the way new attractions are built, how old attractions are modified. I mean, some of the blatantly obvious examples, like the alternative experience with the Nemo sub ride, with the with the, the sleeping beauty castle walkthrough experience. Those are some, you know, kind of obvious examples, but quick question to you, as you've been able to go deep with this particular unique project and, really getting a broader understanding of the "specially abled" the disabilities of inclusive design. You know, my question is how should we approach attraction and experience design with the needs of our entire audience in mind? I mean, I'm asking that as a father of a deaf son and you know, we, you know, different kids with different types of dis learning disabilities you know, how do, how, how do we come across this if, if we're not experiencing some of this stuff ourselves. Freddy (03:26): Yeah. It's a, it's an amazing question to, to ponder and think about. And the you're hinting at a project that we're working on, which is really part of the mission of one of the biggest disability advocacy organizations in the world. And they've asked us to help create a space for them that tells ...

For many blind and partially sighted people becoming an astronaut and going into space might be an impossible dream but for one blind man, Sina Bahram President of Prime Access Consulting, this has come one step closer. As a member of the Mission Astro Access team he recently experienced weightlessness and zero gravity in a Parabolic flight. Sina joined Connect Radio's Toby Davey all the way from North Carolina to tell us what it was like experiencing weightlessness and zero gravity. Sina began by telling Toby how space has fascinated him since the age of 4, how he heard about the Mission: Astro Access parabolic flight and the fully inclusive application process. Sina then explained to Toby about what actually happens in a parabolic flight, what experiencing weightlessness and zero gravity was like for him as a blind person and whether he felt disorientated at all during the periods of weightlessness and zero gravity. Sina ended the interview by sharing with Toby his thoughts on whether in the future it would be possible for a blind person to go into space, walk on Mars or work in the International Space Station. To find out more about Sina and Prime Access Consulting do visit the following website - https://www.pac.bz And for more details about Mission Astro Access do visit - https://astroaccess.org (Image shows RNIB logo. Brian and Ed welcome Sina Bahram in to the Virtual That Real Blind Tech Show studio. We find out from Sina what it is like to experience zero gravity as Sina was part of the first all disabled crew to get to experience what space flight feels like. Sina then tells us how he got involved with Astro Access. Sina then walks us through the age he was diagnosed with a vision issue and how it affected him growing up. We find out how Sina got involved with coding at such a young age, and how he got his Masters in Computer Science Engineering. Which then led to his work with museums all around the world. We then discuss the Aria AT Project, a project which aims to conquer the mountain known as screen reader inoperability. We discuss companies getting it right and how important it is for companies to be thinking about universal design from day one. The conversation then moves to accessible overlays and what a scam they are for companies trying to fix their website accessibility. To view the overlay fact sheet click here. Professor Bahram Mobasher talks about the origins of the universe.
"This Saint was from the city of Bythlaba and was of noble birth; he was the closest and most honoured friend of Isdiger (or Yazdegerd) I, King of Persia (reigned 399-420). Though a Christian from his youth, James renounced Christ because he was allured by the King's friendship and flatteries. When his mother and his wife learned of this, they declared to him by letter that they would have nothing more to do with him, since he had preferred a glory that is temporal to the love of Christ. Wounded in soul by these words and coming to himself, the Saint wept over his error, and repudiated the worship of the idols. Therefore, becoming exceedingly wroth, the King — this was Bahram (or Varahran) V (reigned 421-438), Isdiger's son and successor — condemned him to a most bitter death, the likes of which not even a brute beast was ever condemned to: that is, his body was dismembered at every joint of his arms and legs. And so, when he had been cut asunder limb by limb to his very hips and shoulders, the courageous Martyr was finally beheaded, in the year 421." (Great Horologion)
It's no secret that utilities are having a difficult time in California right now. With wildfires increasing in intensity each year, more utilities are having to shut down power to save their grids. It's pushing even more people to consider solar and storage to create their own microgrids to keep emergency services online. So it's not especially surprising that the state's investor-owned utilities have cried that age-old claim that solar customers are not paying enough for grid upkeep. The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is now considering a monthly charge for solar customers, and solar advocates have joined against this attempt by the utilities to "undermine consumer choice." It leaves installers like Cosmic Solar in a precarious position. In this episode of the Contractor's Corner podcast, Solar Power World editor-in-chief Kelly Pickerel talks with Cosmic co-owners Bahram and Judith Shadzi about how they are supporting the "Save California Solar" campaign while also diversifying into roofing and maintenance services to ensure the 13-year-old business stays afloat in the worst-case scenario. https://www.solarpowerworldonline.com/2021/05/contractors-corner-cosmic-solar

We're pack, the science fiction literature podcast equivalent of tubing down a lazy river with a six-pack of beer! This week we talk about Book 4 of The Years of Rice and Salt, "The Alchemist," where Khalid, Bahram, and Iwang discover the secrets of the universe while attempting to placate the venal khan and suss out the political machinations of his treasurer Nadir Divanbegi. For a lot of readers, this is the chapter where the book really starts to click. As Hilary puts it, this is where she figured out the project of the book is really to tell the story of the emergence of modernity without a progress narrative and in the absence of Eurocentrism--because, of course, "Europe" doesn't exist! This book is also where we see how scientific knowledge develops alongside a different set of ideologies, both religious and political. Here, Robinson dramatizes how scientific “discovery” exists within other forms of knowledge and inhabitation of the world. Science is historically contingent and situated among other ways of being in the world, incarnated in the character of Bahram and his Sufi-influenced conception of the world, wiht a heavy emphasis on love. The story about ideas is always a false story - scientific discovery is imbricated with power, specifically imperial power and violent state power. With Khalid, Iwang, and Bahram, as well as the old texts they consult (and frequently discard) discovery is shown to be a communal activity. The speeds of sound and light, poison gas and WMD, ballistics and baseball, love and learning (love as a giving of attention, like in Aurora)--all these and more are discussed in this very man-heavy chapter where patriarchy is very much still the dominant force. Naheed Samadi Bahram joins the girls to discuss an important topic to women and children of the diaspora and women around the world. Women for Afghan Women is the largest women's rights organization in Afghanistan and have two locations in NYC and Washington, DC. Naheed gives much-needed information and provides resources available for survivors and friends of survivors. Naheed Samadi Bahram, US Country Director Naheed Samadi Bahram was born in Kabul, Afghanistan. Her family migrated to Peshawar, Pakistan after her mother was killed in a bomb explosion in Kabul. Naheed moved to the United States in 2006, and graduated from Queens College in June 2011 with a Bachelors in Finance and Economics. Naheed oversees all programs at WAW’s New York Community Center (NYCC). She has been with Women for Afghan Women since 2007, first as a volunteer and then moved up the ranks to become Program Director at the NYCC where she oversaw all of WAW’s programming in New York before she was promoted to US Country Director. Naheed has won an incredible amount of awards for her service to the Afghan and Muslim immigrant communities in the US and to survivors of domestic violence. WAW's Domestic Violence Work Since 2003, WAW's NYCC has been working closely to address domestic violence and gender-based violence cases in the Afghan and Muslim immigrant communities in New York. WAW has a full-time Case Manager and two part-time caseworkers, who are all Afghan women. They have first-hand knowledge of the communities WAW serves and have the experience to respond to domestic violence and sexual assault cases in a culturally sensitive manner. 80-90% of WAW’s clients are survivors of domestic violence. The trust WAW has built within communities over the years has broken the silence surrounding domestic and gender-based violence—survivors now come forward and are more comfortable asking for support compared to when the NYCC started and survivors hesitated to report due to the stigma attached to domestic violence and fears of deportation. Since the launch of NYCC, we have provided 24,000 case management and legal services to over 7,000 women and families in the United States. Our services for domestic violence survivors include counseling, safety planning, legal support, emergency shelter, translation/interpretation, advocacy, and other support that survivors need to thrive. We also work with community members and leaders to promote healthy, non-violent relationships and advocate for women's rights. Our services are available in 6 languages: Dari, Pashto, Urdu, Hindi, Spanish, and English. Women for Afghan Women provides confidential support to survivors of domestic violence, wherever you are.

What happens to an infectious agent once it leaves the human body? Well, it ends up in our cars, airplanes, food, water, and soil. If we know how that contagion behaves “in the wild”, then we'll be able to kill it, filter it, or otherwise prevent it from proliferating, and potentially improve the lives of millions of people in the process. This is the study of Environmental Microbiology and it's a topic that today's guest has spent more than 30 years trying to understand. Dr. Syed Sattar is Professor Emeritus of Microbiology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa. He is also a co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer at CREM CO. He's a world-renowned expert who regularly advises national and international agencies like the World Health Organization (WHO), and private-sector companies. We're also joined by Bahram Zargar, CEO of CREM CO. This is a company built on top of Dr. Sattar's extensive body of work that aims to speed the assessment, development, and promotion of innovative and sustainable strategies for environmental control of harmful microbes for a safer tomorrow. It blends engineering with environmental microbiology to enable a whole new level of scientific rigor. You'll learn: What happens to infectious agents once they leave the body? What can we do with that knowledge? How air travel and the international food market have eliminated borders in the battle against infectious disease. How engineering can support Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) by enabling scientific rigor and validation. How this science can be used to develop new barrier technologies. What is lacking in today's IPAC efforts and where does it need to go? How disinfectants can lead to their own form of resistance (i.e. bugs resistant to cleaning) and may even contribute to antibiotic resistance. What's the biggest challenge in matching IPAC innovations with potential buyers in the healthcare system? Why we need to enable our “foot soldiers” (i.e. the cleaning staff and environmental services teams at hospitals) with proper training and tools to win this war. Why it's important for innovators and manufacturers to be more scientifically responsible (i.e. don't chase the bug of the month). Why the government needs to increase funding for research and development in IPAC. Why it's so important to stand on the shoulders of the IPAC greats that came before us and build on their work. A few key points that I'd like to highlight: There's very little money set aside by governments for research and development in IPAC. If there's no money, then the best researchers aren't motivated to go after these issues and innovation is starved. We've seen that recently in the U.S with the constant attack on the Prevention and Public Health Fund. We rely on our cleaning staff and Environmental Services (EVS) teams to do a very important job in the hospital, but we don't treat that position with much respect. “If our soldiers are not well trained and ill-equipped for battle, then how do we expect to win the war against the spread of infection?” In a world of increasing antibiotic-resistance and anti-microbial resistance, we must focus on prevention in IPAC. Bahram Akradi founded Life Time, the premier healthy lifestyle brand, in 1992 with a goal of helping people meet their health and wellness goals. Akradi strongly believed that Life Time should serve the member need first, and business success would follow, an idea that at the time, flipped the industry – known for long-term contracts – on its head. Bahram was also just named Minneapolis Business Journal's 2020 Executive of the Year. Now, more than 27 years later, Akradi has evolved Life Time's business beyond its high-end athletic resorts and spas to change the way people live, work and play. Most recently, Life Time announced Akradi's latest innovation with Life Time Living: new, high-end leased residences thoughtfully designed to inspire a holistically healthy lifestyle. Prior to that, Akradi and the Life Time team launched Life Time Work, a premium coworking space that was designed with healthy, balanced lifestyles in mind. Both company extensions continue Bahram's vision to create spaces for healthy living, healthy entertaining and healthy aging. With operations in 39 major markets across 29 states and Canada, Akradi continues to apply his more than 35 years of experience in to transform the health and wellness industry. Akradi noticed the changing retail landscape and formed partnerships with major developers across the nation to transform vacant anchor store fronts into large, mixed-use lifestyle centers that bring thousands of people closer to where they live, work and play each day. As a result, Life Time now has 85-100 projects in its pipeline. And ultimately, a solution that encompasses the full spectrum of daily life for individuals, couples and families of all ages through its Life Time Villages – Life Time Athletic Resort, Life Time Work and Life Time Living. I love interviewing successful entrepreneurs who have created businesses and services that are truly transforming and uplifting humanity. Bahram shares so eloquently about his dedication, commitment and focus to create healthier people and a healthier planet. The wisdom shared were all centered around knowing yourself well; what motivates you and what doesn't and finding ways to utilize your strengths and talents. Here are some of my favorite take-aways: Things We Learned From This Episode A dream with out goals, a focus or a plan, won't lead to your desired result. Conversely, when you string the details, objectives, goals and strategies to your vision, you can end up creating something beyond what you dreamt or envisioned. Building any successful business or operation takes time, grit, flexibility and incredible focus and faith. While Life Time has over 100 million visitors each year today, the company didn't start that way and took many hours and sleepless challenges to become what it is today. Putting your health first allows you to add more nourishment and health to the planet. It starts with yourself first and making sure your health is paramount. Enjoying the show? Nigerians in Space by Deji Olukotun Good Night, Mr. Kissinger by K. Anis Ahmed Started by Skylight's own Chris Heiser, Ricochet publishes literature, comics and lost classics from around the world. It also distributes books with publishing partners like sister nonprofit phoneme Media. Get exclusive preview copies of Ricochet's first two books, Nigerians in Space by Deji Olukotunand Good Night, Mr. Kissinger by K. Anis Ahmed. Both titles are available together as a Ricochet Launch Special, which will give you Ricochet's debut books at a discount. About Nigerians in Space 1993. Houston. Dr. Wale Olufunmi, lunar rock geologist, has a life most Nigerian immigrants would kill for, but then most Nigerians aren't Wale—a great scientific mind in exile with galactic ambitions. Then comes an outlandish order: steal a piece of the moon. With both personal and national glory at stake, Wale manages to pull off the near impossible, setting out on a journey back to Nigeria that leads anywhere but home. Compelled by Wale's impulsive act, Nigerians traces arcs in time and space from Houston to Stockholm, from Cape Town to Bulawayo, picking up on the intersecting lives of a South African abalone smuggler, a freedom fighter's young daughter, and Wale's own ambitious son. Deji Olukotun's debut novel defies categorization—a story of international intrigue that tackles deeper questions about exile, identity, and the need to answer an elusive question: what exactly is brain gain? About Good Night, Mr. Kissinger Good Night, Mr. Kissinger opens in 1970, in the days before war, when an unfinished suburban house is suddenly occupied by the family of an untouchable and disarming girl. Her brief appearance in her young neighbor's life overshadows (at least for a time) the tanks that soon roll onto their idyllic street. Kissinger ends in present day Dhaka, with the construction magnate Shabhaz ruminating about his dysfunctional family on the forty-first floor of the highest tower of the city—one which he himself built. Ahmed plunges into this anarchic, overwhelming place, plucking individuals from the masses to tell stories of love and ambition, family secrets and exile. There are the brothers Bahram and Jamshed, whose father dresses them in similar clothes to avoid sibling rivalry. And Ramkamal, author of the greatest novel never written, whose disappearance leaves behind a group of disjointed followers trying to make sense of their lives. And there is James D'Costa, the exiled Bangladeshi waiter with an unlikely name, whose encounters with Henry Kissinger force a tense confrontation between past and future. About RICOCHET BOOKS Based in Los Angeles, Ricochet's stories are anywhere but—set in South Africa, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Estonia and Istanbul. The translated poetry from our sister nonprofit Phoneme Media includes masterful translations from the Spanish, Portuguese, Uyghur and Arabic, as well as the experimental novellas of notorious Mexican writer Mario Bellatin. No matter where our stories are set, Ricochet's mission is simple: to help introduce new voices and perspectives that broaden our view of the world and the people that live in it, rather than confirm what is already familiar and safe. Hopefully, our stories will surprise you in some way.
