Growing a podcast gets exciting fast, but the moment podcasters need a publicity plan is usually the same moment things start feeling a little more exposed than expected. In this episode, our cast and crew talk with publicist Cyndee Harrison about what happens when your voice starts reaching beyond your own audience and why visibility brings more than just opportunity. We get into reputation, media attention, handling criticism, difficult guest moments, and the reality that people may judge your entire brand off one clip or one headline. You know the one, that comment or moment that sticks in your head way longer than it should. We also talk through practical ways creators can prepare before chasing more exposure, from media kits to personal branding and knowing what your show actually stands for before things go sideways. By the end, the conversation keeps circling back to one uncomfortable truth: the bigger your platform gets, the more important it becomes to know who you are before everyone else decides for you.Episode Highlights:[00:00] Welcome and Setup[02:50] Meet Publicist Cyndee[05:06] What a Publicist Does[06:25] Why Podcasting Is Going Mainstream[10:17] Publicity Strategies for Podcasters[14:55] DIY Media Outreach and HARO Tips[23:19] Visibility Risks and Guest Controversies[28:26] Crisis Lessons and Emotional Fallout[31:47] Think Ahead Before Publishing[40:54] Preparing for More Exposure[44:49] When to Get PR Help[53:52] Community Invite and Wrap-UpLinks & Resources: Cyndee's PR Firm:https://prshield.com/Feature Your Podcast on the Podcasting Morning Show:https://PodcastingMorningShow.com/spotlightThe Podcasting Morning Show:www.podcastingmorningshow.comWays to Watch or Listen: https://www.podcastingmorningshow.com/joinus/Meet the PMS Cast and Crew:https://podcastingmorningshow.com/peopleJoin The Empowered Podcasting Facebook Group:www.facebook.com/groups/empoweredpodcastingBook A Free Call With Marc:https://calendly.com/ironickmedia/freestrategycallApplication To Submit Your Show For Evaluation:https://podcastingmorningshow.com/evalJoin us every other Monday at 8 AM ET for the Obsession Worthy Podcasts:http://podcastingmorningshow.com/owp/Join us LIVE every weekday morning at 8 am ET (US) on Clubhouse: https://podcastingmorningshow.com/clubhouseEPC3 Speaker Application: https://empoweredpodcasting.com/speakersPowered by iRonickMedia.com and ContentCreatorsAccountant.comSend in your mailbag questions: https://www.podcastingmorningshow.com/contact/ or marc@ironickmedia.comWant to be a guest on The Podcasting Morning Show? On Sunday Jim Glennon, who served as a Fianna Fáil TD in the Dublin North constituency from 2002 to 2007, confirmed that he had offered a character reference for convicted sex offender Daniel Ramamoorthy. In a statement, Edelman Ireland announced that Jim Glennon's tenure as non-executive chairman had ended before they were aware he wrote the character reference. The PR firm told the Irish Independent that his tenure ended in March, but an external announcement had not been made to the media. This was, “in line with our protocol, and it had been communicated to relevant contacts internally,” Edelman Ireland said in response to queries. On the question of who had been notified internally and when, the company said it would not be commenting further. Today on this Indo Daily Extra, Kevin Doyle is joined by Irish Independent Special Correspondent Catherine Fegan, to discuss the fallout from the revelations, and look at her pursuit for answers to the controversy as it unfolded. Pennsylvania Democrats recently got a bill to raise the minimum wage through the state House, though it likely will face resistance in the GOP-controlled Senate. It’s the third time in four years that this chain of events is playing out on this issue. But a public relations firm is now getting involved, opposing the measure on behalf of industries that rely on low-wage workers and their allies. The Governor's proposed budget includes nearly a million dollars in state funding for healthy meals for Medicaid recipients with chronic health conditions. The money would fund a new pilot program. State officials are unveiling a maternal health strategic action plan called Healthy Moms, Vibrant Futures. It’s designed to reduce inequities in prenatal and postpartum care and parenting supports, particularly among expectant mothers who are Black and/or suffering from a substance use disorder. Catholic dioceses around the U.S. are seeing significant increases in the number of new members. The National Catholic Register (NCR) newspaper recently reported many U.S. dioceses were expecting heavy increases in people joining the Catholic Church at Easter, including some with record highs. Three of the biggest spikes were in Pennsylvania dioceses - including Altoona-Johnstown (up 84%), Harrisburg (up 77%), and Philadelphia (up 60%). Two Berks County firefighters were killed in a head-on crash Saturday night. It happened as they were traveling in a utility vehicle during a search for a missing woman. Pennsylvania lawmakers could begin requiring employers to provide paid parental and medical leave. However, critical disagreements remain, on who should carry the cost. Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday recently announced his office is ranked #1 in the nation for Medicaid fraud convictions. Most agencies can tell you how their clients are doing but ask how they are doing and the room gets quiet. The truth is that even the best run firms skip their own checkups. Margins thin out, teams burn out, and culture drifts while the spotlight stays fixed on the next pitch. But what if agencies treated their operations the way a doctor treats a patient, tracking vital signs, diagnosing problems early, and prescribing real solutions before things spiral. From hidden symptoms to running a full-scale agency fitness test, in this episode we look at what separates a healthy firm from one that just looks good on paper. When John Truscott left politics to build his own PR firm, he didn't realize how heavy the pressure would hit.Lost clients. Bare-bones months. Thirty paychecks depending on him.And he learned very quickly: if you won't show up, your business won't either. He remembers taking heat for voicing unpopular opinions as the governor of Michigan's press secretary, and later navigating an unlikely merger with a competitor-turned-friend.Because success doesn't come from playing it safe.Success comes from walking away at the right moment, having the uncomfortable but necessary conversations, grinding through calls, and remaining steady when cycles get brutal.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-dillon-england-show--6370921/support.

Prince Andrew hired PR consultant Jason Stein in 2019 to help repair his public image following mounting scrutiny over his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein. Stein, a former communications advisor for prominent British politicians, was brought on to manage crisis messaging and prepare the Duke for upcoming interviews and media appearances. However, within just 28 days of being hired, Stein abruptly left the role. Reports suggest he clashed with Andrew's private secretary and that his professional advice—particularly his warning against doing the now-infamous BBC Newsnight interview—was ignored. His departure reflected a deep dysfunction inside Andrew's inner circle, where strategy and ego collided in spectacular fashion. The PR fallout from that failed collaboration became one of the most catastrophic in royal history. Against Stein's judgment, Andrew proceeded with the Newsnight interview, which was intended to clear his name but instead destroyed his reputation. The televised appearance led to his suspension from royal duties and a wave of public outrage. Stein's quick exit, just 28 days into his tenure, symbolized how unmanageable the prince's crisis had become—and how no communications expert could salvage his self-inflicted collapse.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

Publicity has always been important for authors. Mark Twain promoted his books by writing letters to the paper, and even Agatha Christie, who was known for being very private, still did interviews with prominent newspapers. Yet some authors think this kind of publicity is old-fashioned. In a world dominated by social media, do we even need traditional PR anymore? If you've ever wondered how to get your book featured in the media—or whether it's even worth trying—you won't want to miss this episode of Novel Marketing. In this week's episode, you'll hear from veteran publicist Marika Flatt from PR by the Book to talk about:Whether or not traditional media still mattersThe difference between earned media, paid media, and everything in betweenWhat mistakes to avoid when giving interviewsThe surprising way Good Morning America and Joe Rogan differ when it comes to book salesWhether you're ready to hire a PR firm or just want to understand how media can help spread the word about your book, listen in or read the blog version of this episode.Support the show
In this episode of Grow a Small Business, host Troy Trewin interviews Barrie Cohen, founder of BC Public Relations, about her journey of building a successful Denver-based PR firm. Since its inception in 2017 as a solo venture, the firm has grown into a dynamic team of five women. Initially focused on traditional media, BC Public Relations has diversified into digital platforms such as podcasts and YouTube. Cohen shares insights on the power of storytelling in marketing, navigating the challenges of team management, and fostering strong client relationships. She also discusses self-funding her business, leveraging AI in PR, and the transformative value of mentorship and professional development. Why would you wait any longer to start living the lifestyle you signed up for? Balance your health, wealth, relationships and business growth. And focus your time and energy and make the most of this year. Let's get into it by clicking here. Troy delves into our guest's startup journey, their perception of success, industry reconsideration, and the pivotal stress point during business expansion. They discuss the joys of small business growth, vital entrepreneurial habits, and strategies for team building, encompassing wins, blunders, and invaluable advice. And a snapshot of the final five Grow A Small Business Questions: What do you think is the hardest thing in growing a small business? Barrie said the hardest thing is that we often focus too much on what we're not doing well and forget to celebrate the wins. She stressed it's easy to feel like we're constantly screwing up instead of recognizing the many little victories that come with growing a business. What's your favorite business book that has helped you the most? Barrie's favorite is “The Business of Persuasion” by Harold Burson, a pioneer in public relations. It's somewhat niche to her industry (PR), but she finds it offers great lessons on how the field started and evolved. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? She recommends The PR Podcast (specific to PR), and also listens to Mel Robbins for personal growth. Beyond that, she values reading widely and networking to learn from peers. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? Barrie recommended media databases (like Cision, Muck Rack, Meltwater). While these are mainly for PR, she highlighted how powerful the right tools can be to connect with audiences and tell your story effectively. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? Her advice for day one in business is to keep pushing forward. Embrace the tough moments, allow yourself to feel them—maybe even shed a tear — but always rise again the next day. As a business owner, others rely on you, and the journey is a continuous one. Book a 20-minute Growth Chat with Troy Trewin to see if you qualify for our upcoming course. Don't miss out on this opportunity to take your small business to new heights! Enjoyed the podcast? Please leave a review on iTunes or your preferred platform. Your feedback helps more small business owners discover our podcast and embark on their business growth journey. Quotable quotes from our special Grow A Small Business podcast guest: Keep moving forward – cry it out if you must, but get up the next day and keep going — Barrie Cohen Focus less on what you're not doing well, and take time to celebrate the small wins — Barrie Cohen You're running a business, not a charity; hire for skill, not just likability — Barrie Cohen

On the PRmoment Podcast this week we're going to be discussing whether the cost of technology made it harder than ever to start up a PR firm? Or are the barriers to entry at an all time low?One of the things many of us really love about the PR sector is its dynamism. Do great work and you can fly. This dynamism has been fuelled over many years by a constant stream of new entrants to the PR agency market. But is this dynamism now threatened? Does the cost of technology, for so long an enabler of agency start ups, now mean that to access the full set of technology and tools you need to service clients, the era of low barrier to entry to the PR agency market is drawing to a close.Or has the continuous development of tech and software meant that the costs continue to fall?On the show today to have this debate we have 2 agency founders. Carrie Jones and Archana Jain.Carrie is the CEO at JPA Health, an independent healthcare communications firm in America. She founded the firm in 2007. It now has 150 full time employees and has taken minority PE investment. Carrie believes that the cost of technology and software has meant that it has become prohibitively expensive for new PR agencies to start up.Archana is the managing director of PR Pundit Havas Red in India, one of India's leading consumer PR firms. Archana founded PR Pundit in 1998 before selling the firm to Havas Red last year.Archana believes that technology has made the cost of starting your own PR business cheaper than ever. Can they both be right? Before we start, we've now launched our PR Masterclass: The Intersection of Data, Planning and Measurement. Attend this PR Masterclass to hear from experts on the latest techniques, tools and case studies about the use of data in modern communications. Early bird ticket prices are available until December 20th. You can attend face to face in London or virtually from anywhere in the world. The other big news in public relations is that the PRmoment Awards 2025 are open. All the categories, the updated entry form and the 2025 entry pack can be viewed on the awards microsite. The early bird entry deadline is December 13th.Also, thanks so much to the PRmoment Podcast sponsors the PRCA.Here is a a summary of what Archana Jane and Carrie Jones discuss:5 mins Carrie and Archana talk briefly about their career stories and how they launched their firms.9 mins Archana Jain on why she believes that technology means that it is currently easier than ever for independent founders to start their own firms.“It's never been easier to set up an enterprise in India.”14.30 mins Carrie on why she thinks it's now prohibitively expensive for PR founders to start their own firms now.“Tools are off the shelf solutions that are available to everyone. They don't give you a competitive advantage.”“In the US market in order to be competitive with the big agencies, you need Google Cloud partnerships, you need access to big data. Off the shelf AI and generative AI solutions is not enough. It needs to be a proprietary closed database supplemented and trained by a data scientist.”“The data and compliance standards required in a multi market have a different complexity.”“The level of compliance, the level of large data purchases, the level of expertise to tweak, modify all of the data solutions. For me it's never been harder and it's super, super expensive”26 mins Carrie and Archana talk though the PR tools markets in the US and India.

Abbie Fink, the new sole owner of HMA Public Relations, shares her journey of transitioning from vice president to president and the challenges she faced during this significant change. Abbie and Adrian discuss the intricacies of business ownership, including the emotional and financial aspects of Abbie buying out her business partner, Scott Hanson, who retired after many successful years together. Abbie highlights the importance of maintaining the firm's legacy while navigating the complexities of valuation, negotiations, and ensuring a smooth transition for clients and employees alike. She also emphasizes the value of having both professional advisors and supportive friends during this transformative period. As Abbie reflects on the renewed energy within HMA Public Relations, she expresses pride in the work they continue to do and the strong relationships built over the years. Key Takeaways Transitioning to sole ownership involves navigating complex legal, financial, and emotional factors—each critical to the successful acquisition of a business. Engaging with expert advisors such as mergers and acquisitions attorneys and financial specialists is key to comprehensively understanding the firm's valuation. Balancing friendship and business interests with a former co-owner requires clear communication and a focus on shared goals, such as maintaining agency continuity and client satisfaction.
