Your mirrored sunglasses-wearing hosts jump into the warped world of Kurt Vonnegut Jr as they talk about the film BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS (1999) based on the book of the same name written by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. The movie was written by Alan Rudolf and Kurt Vonnegut Jr and was directed by Alan Rudolf. It stars a long list of great actors including Bruce Willis, Nick Nolte, Albert Finney, Omar Epps and Lucas Haas just to name a few. It’s about a middel-aged man having an existential crisis amidst a flurry of events all of which stretch your brain with satircal hooks galore. And so it goes. * LINKSWee Freekz FBUnsane Radio WebsiteTarr and Fether’s WebsitePsycho Cinema FBUnsane Radio FBUnsane Radio XPsycho Cinema YTHeavy Metal Horror Podcast FBHeavy Metal Horror Podcast YT MusicIntro/Outro: Be DeDJ ZX – Let All Be DeadBackground: Sneak Machine

This one hits different now. DJ Dan and Krafty Kuts spent six months collaborating to build this set - trading ideas, pulling tracks, working toward something the community would remember. What came out of that process is what you're hearing: two artists at the top of their craft, playing as one, on New Year's Day in San Francisco at the Breakfast of Champions stage. Dan brought everything he had that day. He always did. We are all still processing the loss of DJ Dan. These two legends wanted to bring everything they had to the BoC crowd and that they did. This set is about bringing people together and experiencing the joy and community that music provides. Dan always said music is healing. This mix is proof. Recorded live — January 1, 2026 It's a New Day + BOC Breakfast of Champions New Year's Day Block Party Great Northern, San Francisco
After a brief hiatus, it's such an honor to return to Breakfast of Champions / It's a New Day with my Space Cowboys family. This one is special because it marks the very first set that features 100% original kev/null productions—some released and many unreleased, including a last minute bootleg of Kate Bush's “Running Up That Hill,” in honor of the Stranger Things series finale that aired a week prior. This set is a journey through many genres and bpms but I think you'll find that, no matter what, it still has that kev/null sound. DJs out there, feel free to reach out if you want any of the tracks for use! Tracklist: 1. Pop It (Original Mix) - kev/null 2. Lift Off (Original Mix) - kev/null 3. On the Space Cowboys' RIPEcast this week Mancub rocks the decks live from the Mog stage at Breakfast of Champions Jan. 1, 2026. Had an absolute blast playing the Mog stage. Proud of our Bay Area community and enjoyed all the DJs sets. Thank you for having me again! - Mancub
This week on Space Cowboy's RIPEcast a blazing house set from our own Leyl Master Black. In her words "This was my favorite BOC ever. The music was top notch, the crowd brought their A-game, and the drizzle didn't dampen anyone's spirits. I couldn't wait to play my set, full of new vocal house bangers and some classics I'd never played at BOC. Enjoy!"
This year's Breakfast of Champions may have started under gray skies, but the moment I stepped onto the BOC stage at noon, the clouds parted and the dancefloor filled. What followed was a full‑throttle celebration of my favorite tracks of the year—an hour where the crowd locked in, the beats hit just right, and the whole party came alive. Rain or shine, Breakfast of Champions is the ultimate way to kick off the year, and I was thrilled to help set the tone. Whether you were there getting down with us or you're tuning in for the first time, enjoy the ride. -WorkR

Our second set from Breakfast of Champions comes chock full of breakbeats from our one and only Rumblemunk. In his words: The set starts with a cool and funky transition track with some well-known vocals to keep folks hooked. I admit: it's hard playing after shOOey. There are literally people hanging from the rafters and dancers all over the stage, and I try my best to keep them interested for as long as possible. The core of the set is an exploration of recent breakbeats that sound minimal, but really are an evolution of the 90s dub sound that traces directly from reggae to drum and bass. The 60-70 BPM of dub double-timed up to high 130s and low 140s BPM forces faster elements like hats and arpeggios to be simplified, but leaves space for really interesting layering when slowed down to 132 BPM. There's a run from 12:30 to 17:30 that exemplifies this layering and progression before dropping back into the more open foot-stompy breaks. I hadn't played it in a while, and was sort of missing the rapid-fire rapping of Eminem, so I dropped in Eminight's Doom, my bootleg of Eminem's Without Me and Timo Maas' Doom's Night. It wraps up a nice run of Plump DJs, Krafty Kuts, and Yo Speed. The final act of the set is a trip back through time to 2004 with deep cuts from Plump DJs, Evil Nine, and the Breakfastaz (name appropriate, no?). This all leads into the final track; a breakbeat remix of Megadeth's Peace Sells (But Who's Buying) from 1988. I was looking for something topical for the current times with space for live guitar, but wasn't finding any tracks that worked. The idea of remixing Megadeth has been on my mind for a while, and the similar BPM and angry lyrics (If there's a better way... I'll be the first in line... But it better work this time) meant I had to do this. The live guitar bit didn't pan out, but production time of 7 weeks from idea to master is a new record for me. Expect an official release with live guitar and club edits later in 2026. -Rumblemunk

Meevil the Weevil: Breakfast of Champions, 4min., USA Directed by Kyle Arneson Meevil the Weevil is a little bug with big dreams of being a stuntman. “Breakfast of Champions” mixes stop motion animation with live action footage where we follow Meevil's thrilling ride across a 1970s breakfast table on rocket roller skates. https://www.instagram.com/stunt.bug/ Get to know the filmmaker: What motivated you to make this film? The film came about after developing the character as a hesitant hero with big dreams of grandeur. It's strongly inspired by the stunt men and women of the 1970's and 80's that I found so captivating back when the world was a little more shag-carpeted and wood-paneled. During this initial creative period I lost my father unexpectedly and it was at some point in the haze of the grieving process I realized that the relationship between Meevil, and Olis, his coach, mirrored that of my relationship to my father. So with that guiding light, the ethos of the project became clear and bringing it to reality became a goal for me as a way to honor my dad. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film? From idea to final prduct this film took 3 years to make. Nothing happens fast in stop motion animation, the puppet had to be designed and built, all of the props and sets were hand made and the entire film was shot one frame at a time. How would you describe your film in two words!? Nostalgic fun! Subscribe to the podcast: https://twitter.com/wildsoundpod https://www.instagram.com/wildsoundpod/ https://www.facebook.com/wildsoundpod

A great book for if you want to know if your dick size is average! Today we are talking about Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut. Welcome back to the studio. This is My Day of Play, where you're taken into the real events and actions of how it happens long before the process of editing or cleaning up. The original purpose of these episodes was to give my broadcasting students something to edit, to practice with and to call their own. Then I realized that you are just as important. Share the reality of how it really went. We begin things with NewNations chief Washington anchor Leland Vittert. Then we're off to conversation with producer Rich Hull and U.S. Army chaplain Jeff Struecker from the documentary Fighting Spirit: A Combat Chaplain's Journey And we'll wrap things up with Alan Rudolph director of the newly restored version of Breakfast Of Champions starring a very young Bruce Willis. This is My Day of Play. Completely unedited in the way of meeting the wizard behind the curtain. In 1973, Kurt Vonnegut releases his much awaited follow up to Slaughterhouse-Five. Just one year later, off the tails of Buffalo Bill and the Indians, Robert Altman tasks Alan Rudolph with writing him a script based on this book, Breakfast of Champions. His one direction being, "don't follow the book", advice that would be echoed by Kurt Vonnegut himself. The project slowly fizzles away into the dustbin... until 1999. This week we're talking Alan Rudolph's BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS, starring Bruce Willis as Dwayne Hoover. We take a trip to Alan-Town to talk about the new Choose Me 4K, this film's recent 4K restoration, then we get into Vonnegut talk, how this film and the book find common ground, car dealers in the Bush era, late capitalism and the "self-made" owner class, and also a lot of joking around! On this weeks RIPEcast our good friend from New York @_defkon with a live set on the Mog stage from Breakfast of Champions '25. Link to mix in comments From Defkon - Playing the 25th Anniversary of Breakfast of Champions was an absolute honor. The Space Cowboys have been a huge inspiration in my journey as a DJ, so getting the chance to represent Brooklyn at BOC this year was a dream come true. Sharing the stage with legends like Sporty-O & Thug Shells —who both came out to perform with me—made it even more special. Knowing I was playing for a veteran crowd that's heard and danced to some of the best breaks out there, I knew I had to bring my A-game. I think I accurately delivered my sound, keeping the energy high and the dance floor moving until the very end. Closing out the legendary MOG Stage alongside my mentors was an unforgettable experience. Huge thanks to DJ Deckard, Rumblemunk, and the entire Space Cowboys crew for welcoming me with open arms and making me feel at home!

This week on the RIPEcast, Space Cowboys welcome back Smoove to the Bay Area. Aloha Funkateers Back in Y2K era San Francisco, there was a trend amongst the uber cool restaurants where - as part of the dining room ambience - you would often find a DJ mixing live during dinner service. It was here, spinning vinyl all night propped up at the end of the bar, in this bastion of late 20th century California fusion cuisine I found my entrance into the fantastical wonderland that is the Bay Area DJ community. And it was here where I first encountered the Space Cowboys. The subsequent years featured a significant increase of the color orange into my wardrobe, Halloween undergrounds, a Unimog, breakbeats (so. Many. Breakz!) renegades in Golden Gate Park, that thing in the desert, decompression/recompression, Love parades, rhinestones, Martha, NewsBreakz, heartbreakz. And yes, a New Year's Day sunrise party. It was a glorious time to be alive So I think it's fitting my first time back at BOC in *this many* years was the 25th anniversary. I was hella psyched to be on this years line up because, if I'm being perfectly honest, I have missed you all. Spinning this set was a true joy and it was an honor to be back with the original crew. -Smoove

This week on the RIPEcast we have Space Cowboy resident DJ Workr coming at you from New Year's Day. In his words, "Every Breakfast of Champions I'm invited to play is a special opportunity to showcase my favorite tracks from the past year. This year, I was honored with an afternoon set, which gave me the space to really open up my sound and rock the crowd in a way that felt true to the moment. I'm excited to share this live recording of that set with you, and I hope you can tap into the energy I was laying down. Enjoy the ride!" -WorkR
This week on the RIPEcast we bring you Sol direct from Breakfast of Champions with a stellar house and breaks set! From Sol, "There's no better way to start off the new year then a little party with a few thousand of your closest friends! Once again the weather was amazing and everyone was looking stellariffic! I worked on this set together for a while as I wanted to combine my love for both house and breakbeats for the last 25 years. I start it off with a few newer tracks then dropped into an old-school 90s breakbeat set in the middle and finally finishing it out with a couple of classic house bombs. Btw most of the tracks I played are tracks I either remixed or re-edited so they were just the way I like em! …Enjoy!"
This week on the RIPEcast an OG if there ever was one, Space Cowboys' 8Ball is on the decks live from the 25th edition of Breakfast of Champions. From @dj8ball, "25th Breakfast of Champions, and I've played 23 of them! I'd say “I'm too old for this shit” but the party's still going and it's still the best way to kick off the New Year in SF—hands freakin' down! About the mix: I brought a mix of new and old favs, and like last year I decided to pack the middle with drum n bass to keep folks steppin. Most of the tracks were re-edited and I've been enjoying tinkering with stems lately, so that's where some of the acapellas come into play. There's also a quick tribute to breakbeat originator, Lennie Le Ice and his groundbreaking track “We Are E.I.”—I'll work the whole thing into another set down the road, but for now it's in the breakdown for “Feel It”. Here's the tracklist: 01. Something Good Can Work (Stems) - Two Door Cinema Club 02. Fantasy - Maceo Rivas, Oldbeat 03. Shotta Flow (Mizzo Remix) - NLE Choppa, Biggie 04. Our 25th Breakfast of Champions was another one for the record books! This was my 9th year DJing the best party in San Francisco, and I couldn't be happier with how it all came together. Welcome back to the Following Films Podcast, today, we're taking a close look at a true cult adaptation by one of indie cinema's most fearless filmmakers. That's right--we're diving into Alan Rudolph's take on Breakfast of Champions. Now, for those who don't know, Breakfast of Champions is one of Kurt Vonnegut's most satirical and surreal novels, a whirlwind exploration of American culture, consumerism, and the absurdity of modern life. The novel has long been considered “unfilmable,” with its meta-narratives, wild characters, and existential commentary. But in 1999, Alan Rudolph took on the challenge, casting Bruce Willis as the unraveling car dealer Dwayne Hoover in a film adaptation that swings for the fences, capturing the novel's surreal humor and chaotic energy. So, how did Rudolph tackle the impossible? What did he capture from Vonnegut's world, and where did he veer off in his own direction? And, perhaps most importantly, how did audiences and critics react to this strange, audacious take on an American classic? Today, we'll explore all of this and more, from the casting and visual style to the legacy of this unique adaptation. So, whether you're a die-hard Vonnegut fan, an Alan Rudolph admirer, or just curious about ambitious cinema, join us as we explore Breakfast of Champions, Alan Rudolph's unforgettable ride through satire, surrealism, and Americana. Breakfast of Champions will be playing on Nov 15th at the Alamo Drafthouse in Los Angeles, at SIFF Cinema Uptown on Nov 24th, and at the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago IL. on Dec. 13th. I hope you enjoy the show. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/followingfilms/support
