The Dáil will vote on a confidence motion in the Ceann Comhairle for the first time in its history today. Opposition parties have come together to submit the motion in Verona Murphy after her handling of last week's speaking time row. The opposition alleges Ms Murphy colluded with the Government parties to get the new speaking times for the Regional TDs and coalition backbenchers over the line. The Ceann Comhairle, who is expected to survive the vote, has said she has no intention of going anywhere. Meanwhile, Donald Trump will unveil his tariff plans tomorrow(Wednesday), with heavy import duties expected to be imposed on the EU. The US President's tariffs will be widespread and will target countries across the world in what he's calling 'Liberation Day.' Cars, steel, pharmaceuticals and other goods will be hit with extra charges. With nearly a thousand Irish exporters likely to be hit, there are fears about what it could mean for tens of thousands of Irish jobs The Government and the EU have held talks about how best to protect Irish pharma from Donald Trump's tariffs. To discuss this further, Alan Morrissey was joined by Tulla Fianna Fáil Minister, Timmy Dooley and Shannon Sinn Féin TD, Donna McGettigan.
Earlier the main opposition parties tabled an unprecedented motion of no confidence in Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy. A remarkable, arguably unprecedented, week in Irish politics. Verona Murphy remains in situ, and Micheál Martin is doubling down. Given the ('Lowry') Government majority, is it all over bar the shouting? That double digital meme is bad for brand Martin, already damaged by this controversy. But how's it all faring on Paul's bus route?

Clare's Sinn Féin TD claims damage has been done to the reputation of the Ceann Comhairle's Office after the Government rammed through a vote on Dáil speaking rights. Opposition leaders are questioning the legitimacy of the vote and will today tell Deputy Verona Murphy they have no confidence in her after the Wexford TD used her powers to skip over the business of the day. The proposal means regional independents would be considered as "others" and they along with over 50 backbench TDs would get additional speaking slots, however the weekly time for Taoiseach's questions would be halved. Shannon Sinn Féin Deputy Donna McGettigan says it flies in the face of democracy.
Anne Rabbitte, Fianna Fáil Senator; Conor Sheehan, Labour TD for Limerick City; Rory Hearne, Social Democrats TD for Dublin North-West; Tabitha Monahan, Political Reporter for the Irish Independent
