William Joyce aka Lord Haw Haw was Ireland's most notorious Nazi. Raised in the west of Ireland he was an unlikely spokesman for Hitler's Third Reich. Nevertheless millions tuned in to his sinister broadcasts on behalf of the Nazi regime during the Second World War. This podcast follows his journey from Galway to Hitler's Third Reich. In his teenage years, he acted as a scout for the Black and Tans and was implicated in one of the most notorious murders of the Irish War of Independence. While waiting for casts to get back on Saturday night/Sunday morning at Black and Tan days Chris Nidy sat down with me to pass the time. We talked about how Chris went from showing Black and Tans and other dogs at AKC dog shows to getting into the nite hunts and eventually finding himself as president of the American Black & Tan Association. Chris had an important message about service and all the work it takes to run an association and hold large events. We all need to step up to help our asssociations, and clubs to continue so todays youth may one day be able to take them over. While at Black and Tan days I sat down with David Gilman and Misty Yarrington. This couple has produced dogs that dominate in the show ring, the woods, and the stud pen. The bill comes under the umbrella of anti-trespass legislation and provides exorbitant penalties for hunting dogs and their owners that find themselves afoul of the provisions of the bill, whether advertently or not.   The boys hash out the bill and provide information for hunters in Pennsylvania and elsewhere that want to let their voices be heard before the bill reaches the dangerous environs of the Senate floor.  The conversation takes on a more pleasant vibe as the boys cover the oldest and one of the most-popular breeds of trail and tree hounds, the American Black and Tan Coonhound.  The boys' love for history is evident as they discuss early history, early founders and a long line of movers and shakers, human and canine, that have played such an important role in the breed's seemingly timeless reign of popularity.   If you like black dogs, or if you just like to look back over the many years of our tree hound sport, this is a good one for you.  Them ole black dawgs!
