Katarina Cermelj (Kat for short) is an award-winning cookbook author, food writer, photographer and creator of the popular ‘free-from' baking blog, The Loopy Whisk. She has a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Oxford, having previously completed her undergraduate Chemistry degree at the same university. Being a science nerd, she loves to use a very scientific, analytical approach in her recipe development – and she's also a big believer in not only providing reliable, fail-proof (and always delicious) recipes, but also the reasons for why they work. Kat's first cookbook, Baked to Perfection, has been described as "the only gluten-free cookbook you'll ever need" and has won The Guild of Food Writers Specialist Subject Award 2022, the Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink Debut Cookery Book Award 2022 and was a finalist in the IACP Awards 2022. Her latest cookbook, The Elements of Baking, is an in-depth (and enthusiastically nerdy) guide to making any recipe gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, vegan or even gluten-free vegan – all while ensuring it still tastes spectacular. theloopywhisk.com Instagram, Facebook and TikTok: @theloopywhisk In this episode, we discuss: How an intolerance for gluten and dairy sparked the launch of The Loopy Whisk How her PhD in inorganic chemistry paved the way for a career as a recipe developer Why the formula matters – using GF flour doesn't guarantee success What gluten is, and why it causes some people big problems Tips for making the best GF bread Why sometimes you have to adjust the amount of flour used in GF recipes on the fly What her two cookbooks, Baked to Perfection and The Elements of Baking, are all about The one GF recipe that Kat is most proud of And much more!

On today's episode of UFC Unfiltered, lightweight up-and-comer MarQuel Mederos joins the show first to break down his dominant win over Austin Hubbard in Mexico City. The guys dive into how MarQuel's past shaped his fighting mindset, his shift from FactoryX to MMA Lab, and why staying in the gym year-round beats a traditional fight camp. Later in the show, women's strawweight contender Loopy Godinez returns for her fourth appearance following a much-needed win over Julia Polastri. Loopy talks about what it means to get back on track after two tough losses before joining Matt in a lighthearted, brutally honest assessment of the stomach issues that sparked a viral moment with her corner during the fight. Between interviews, Jim and Matt weigh in on Brandon Moreno's bounce-back performance, Raul Rosas Jr.'s rapid rise, and all the standout moments from UFC Mexico City!

Well, I'm not surprised we are releasing an unhinged and not well thought out episode for our 60th (a milestone we had no idea we were hitting, and Annie still doesn't, just me who's typing this after counting what number to put at the end of the title). I guess..... congratulations to us. 60. Wow. What an accomplishment. I'd like to thank the academy of FREAKS who listen to this, and my grandmother, who always said "go to law school, you'll make money." It really pushed me to say "No, I'm going to marry up and do 60 episodes of an unpaid podcast instead". Idk who Annie has to thank for that mentality, but god bless us both for having it!

Loopy is a local legend. If you spent any amount of time at The Winston Pub in Durban, or Lefty's in Cape Town, there's no doubt Loopy would have hustled a sip of your drink at least once. Loopy has fully lived the skollie punk life, engaging in debauchery and crashing on couches around the country as a member of one of Durban's most chaotic bands, Fruits & Veggies. These days, she passes for a respectable member of society with a journalism degree under her belt and a writing portfolio established at The Lake.In this episode, we reminisce over the glory (citation needed) days of Durban's alternative scene and The Winston Pub. We hear about the rise and fall of Fruits and Veggies. And we learn how Loopy became the unlikely manager of Lefty's. Enjoy.Keep up with Loopy on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/looptroop021/Support the podcast on Patreon: https://patreon.com/almostperfect Hosted on Acast. Song: Quiet At First Music by: Eileen Webb Lyrics by: Kai Skye Notes: How often do you get to sing with a thrush? Eileen Webb has made that possible for us... and so we get full enjoyment out of it, singing the entire song twice after learning it. The song itself, with words from Kai Skye, is a succinct reminder to drop in to that sensation of connection to all living things and how good it feels. What could be better? Recording this was unusual for me, because instead of loops on Loopy (where I just have to get it sounding right once!), it's layered tracks because of singing with the thrush... so I got to practice staying centered for the entire length of the song... not once, not twice, but three times plus a bit! It was really good for me -- so thank you for singing with me and perusing the A Breath of Song library -- I love the way my sense of responsibility to you keeps me in practice. Songwriter Info: Eileen is a consultant and facilitator who helps tech companies build stronger relationships within and across their teams. She loves how music-making helps create deep connections in diverse groups of people, and leads the circlesinging community in Portland, Maine. Sharing Info: The song is free to share, but please remember to share the lyrics credit to Kai Skye as well! Nuts & Bolts: 4:4, major, 2-3 part harmony plus some extras Join the A Breath of Song Mailing list to receive a heads up as a new episode is released, plus a large version of the artwork, brief thoughts from my slightly peculiar brain... and occasional extras when they seem vitally important! No junk -- I will never sell your address. I read out all your names into my living room when I send new mailings... I appreciate the connection to you who are listening and singing these songs with me. Exchange energy with A Breath of Song with dollars at the Gratitude Jar, or by making comments, leaving reviews, suggesting songs or songwriters (including yourself) ..... your participation matters!

Family! That's what this race, the Loopy Looper, feels like to us. We have had 6 of our previous guests run this race at some point and all have talked about it in some way, shape or form. So, we figured, it is time for us to get to know the Race Directors themselves. The race itself has 12 hour, 24 hour, a 100 mile and a relay option for those looking at different formats. The race is held on a 3.75 mile loop on a paved path around Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, New Jersey. The course is mostly flat and you will run as many loops of it as you can/want in the time allowed. According to the race website, this is one of the fastest looped courses in the country and a great chance to put in some serious mileage. Take a few minutes to learn more about this incredible race, the Loopy Looper from co Race Directors, Jen Gaynor and Pete Greenfield. Loopy Looper Info: Registration for the Loopy Looper is open, the race is 8/3 at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, NJ, and new for this year the Glow Up Night Loop - 1 lap of Cooper River at 10pm. On today's episode of UFC Unfiltered, Matt Serra and Jim Norton unpack all the action from Saturday's “Noche UFC” card in Las Vegas for an episode that serves as a victory Monday for women's strawweight Loopy Godinez — today's guest caller. With all of the talk surrounding the scorecards from Saturday's title fight rematch between women's flyweight champion Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko, Jim and Matt dish their thoughts on the judges' verdicts and whether or not an immediate trilogy fight for the belt should be in store. Jim and Matt then shift the dialogue to the highly competitive fight put on in the co-main event between welterweight contenders Jack Della Maddalena and Kevin Holland. After going down the card with their takeaways from other fights, Jim and Matt are finally joined by women's strawweight Loopy Godinez — who reacts to her statement win over Elise Reed before explaining how much it meant to her to get the submission victory in front of thousands of supportive Mexican fans on a special night honoring Mexican Independence Day. Finally, the guys wrap up the show by playing matchmaker for the incredibly deep and talented women's flyweight division — with very specific thoughts on who should be getting the next shot at the title.
On today's episode of UFC Unfiltered, Jim and Matt are joined by middleweight Edmen Shahbazyan and women's strawweight Loopy Godinez ahead of their fights on the main card of Saturday's UFC Fight Night: Dern vs. Hill card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Edmen discusses how moving out of his hometown in California to Las Vegas and now training at the Xtreme Couture super gym has enhanced the 25-year-old middleweight's career ahead of his co-main event fight against Anthony Hernandez. As Jim shifts the conversation towards Saturday's card, Matt issues a convincing argument for why Mackenzie Dern will beat Angela Hill before Loopy Godinez hops on the show. Finally, Loopy Godinez opens up about her father's decision to move their family from Mexico to Canada and shares how working small jobs helped her save money to embark on a professional MMA career. The guys wrap up the show with predictions for Godinez's fight against Emily Ducote on Saturday's main card.
