Welcome, Earthlings and Cybertronians alike, to another episode of Play Comics-where the only thing more confusing than the continuity is trying to fold yourself into a PS2 disc case! This time, we're rolling out (and occasionally transforming) into the wild world of the 2004 Transformers video game. Yes, the one that's based on Transformers: Armada-even though the box art was too shy to admit it, and the plot zigzags harder than a Mini-Con on a caffeine rush. Joining us for this electrifying adventure is none other than Charles Shelton from the TransMissions Podcast Network, a man who knows more about Autobots, Decepticons, and questionable voice acting than Unicron knows about planetary snacking. Together, we'll dodge Decepticlones, collect Mini-Cons like they're Pokémon, and ponder why Optimus Prime never just took a vacation in the Amazon (hint: robot allergies). So buckle up, hit that triangle button to transform, and prepare for a journey through nostalgia, PS2 graphics, and more robot drama than a Cybertronian soap opera. On episode 340 of the Seibertron.com Twincast Podcast, the conversation kicks off with the reveal of Transformers Legacy: United Titan Class Tidal Wave at Cybertron Fest 2023 in Singapore. Contrary to the predictions Tidal Wave is not, in fact, a retool of the Kingdom Titan Class Ark. The conversation segues into another reveal from the same show, Origins Wheeljack, which features the 1984 debut character in his original Cybertronian vehicle mode. Speaking of cartoon depictions, the cast also briefly discusses the yet-to-be-revealed Studio Series 86 Commander Class Optimus Prime, and speculates on what the fandom can expect from this anticipated release. The show moves to in-hand thoughts on the recently shipped Transformers Legacy HasLab Deathsaurus, which has reached the entire casts' hands as of the show's recording. Moving on from new and upcoming toys, the crew reviews the third issue of Skybound Entertainment's Transformers comic book run, which are mostly positive with one notable holdout. Our regular "40 for 40" series, where each cast member notes their favorite Transformer from a given year of releases, takes on 1997, the second year of Beast Wars and only year of Machine Wars. The homeworld of the Maximals, an advanced race of Cybertronians with beast modes, comes under attack from the planet-eating dark god Unicron. His heralds, the Terrorcons and an army of Predacon scorpions, led by Scourge, seek to obtain for their master the Maximals' greatest piece of technology, the Transwarp Key, which can open portals through space and time. This is the 5th film in the franchise and would be the last for director, Michael Bay. Mark Wahlberg is the only character from the previous film to return and is joined by Anthony Hopkins, Jarrod Carmichael, Laura Haddock & Santiago Cabrera. Josh Duhamel also returns from the first 3 films as well as John Turturro. Stanely Tucci is also in the film but not as his previous character. The voice cast sees Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, John Goodman, Ken Watanabe & John DiMaggio return and joined by Omar Sy, Gemma Chan & Steve Buscemi. 5 years after the events of “Age of Extinction”, Optimus Prime is on a quest to find “The Creators”, the supposed founding fathers of the Transformers. Optimus is captured and brainwashed by an evil Queen robot who believe an Cybertronian relic is on Earth and has the ability to recreate Cybertron by using the Earth's core. Now evil, Prime returns to Earth and attacks Autobots and Decepticons alike searching for the relic. The survival of Earth relies on Bumblebee and a handful of humans and Autobots to not only stop the Decepticons but now their former leader & friend. This film bombed at the box office bringing in only $600 million on a $260 million budget. Plans for another sequel were cancelled and Michael Bay confirmed prior to the release that this would be his last as the director but chose remain in a producer role for future projects.

The fourth film in this franchise was directed by Michael Bay but features an entirely new cast that include Mark Wahlberg, Kelsey Grammer, Stanley Tucci, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Li Bingbing, TJ Miller & Sophia Myles. Peter Cullen also returns as the voice of “Optimus Prime” and he also is joined by a new cast that include John Goodman, Ken Watanabe, Mark Ryan, John DiMaggio & Frank Welker. Welker voiced “Megatron” in the 1980s animated series and the 1986 animated film. This film takes place 3 years after the previous film and now the CIA has issued a Black Op mission to wipe out the remaining transformers, both good and bad. Optimus Prime is on run but is found and restored by a crackpot inventor from Texas. The inventor and his family become targets of the CIA while Optimus becomes a target for a Cybertronian bounty hunter. Despite this film being the highest grossing film of the year, it was yet again panned by critics for bland storylines, uninteresting characters and over reliance on big action sequences.

It had been quite an eventful few days to say the least. You'd known of the Autobots living amongst the human population as robots in disguise for quite some time now, much longer than the three much younger children who'd recently joined the scene. In fact, in the time you'd been alongside your Cybertronian allies, one mech in particular seemed to had almost instantly taken a liking to you, hence where you are now. Driving down the Interstate in the pouring rain after your Guardian had wordlessly passed by Ratchet, activating a GroundBridge to nowhere in particular. His actions had come as a surprise to you, but, you'd grabbed the blanket off the back of the couch and shoved it into your backpack, making quick work of clambering into the red and blue Semi sitting quietly in front of the swirling vortex of green, pink and blue. But, you know why you're here, snuggled up in your seat, head resting against the rain stained window, the oncoming traffic's headlights dazzling your hazing vision. Optimus Prime, for once in his life, is unsure of what's to come. And, he's mourning the loss of someone who he'd once called a brother. Ratchet had informed you of… everything… when you'd first frequented the Base, on an evening everyone else had been out in the field. The Prime and Megatron - two polar opposites and sworn enemies - once fought alongside one another. But now, that camaraderie and brotherhood is nothing but space dust - you'd heard the report from the rest of the Team, seen the injuries. The silence in the cab of the Semi truck is comfortable, though it's starting to wear thin on your fatigued mind, your eyes threatening to close themselves even as you tug the blanket tighter around your shoulders, shifting in your seat slightly. And it's only when a soft yawn escapes your lips that your Guardian finally speaks, instantly gaining your drowsy attention.   “It's just… a small part of me hoped to change Megatron's mind, not extinguish his Spark,” Optimus explains solemnly, a tone of such genuine regret falling into his voice. A pang of compassion swells within you as his words fall onto your ears, your gaze instinctively drifting to the driver's seat, the insignia proudly emblazoned on the steering wheel now dim, waiting to illuminate with the Prime's next words.   “But the Megatron whom I once fought beside perished eons ago; the day he chose to become a Decepticon.” All you can do is nod silently, your thoughts slow to respond.   “I know you both were close,” Is all you can muster up to say, another yawn interrupting your sentence. “I'm sorry, Optimus.” Your genuine condolences almost seem to fall on deaf audio receptors. But, you know right well that a small smile is tugging at his faceplate, a wordless nod of thanks likely the only reply the Prime would give. And with that, the pair of you continue to drive, simply enjoying each other's company, the rain and the soft music playing from the radio, thankful for that this moment… Nothing else quite matters as much as now.

And when the chaos clamored down, a new, much kinder looking robot was standing tall in front of you, his previous blade of a weapon being whisked away from your view in an instant, instead, being replaced by a hand of sorts that gently picked you up and brought you out of harm's way. Optimus Prime had saved you that day, and now, thanks to him, you're a regular with Team Prime. Soon after your incident, however, three more kids, a bit younger than yourself, appeared at Base, also warming up to their strange new situation. Jack, Miko and Raf are all now also regulars with the Team and that puts you where you are now, listening to the surprisingly soothing sound of rain pitter patter against the roof of the old missile silo, the sounds of whatever Wii game Jack and Raf are playing meeting your senses.
