One minute, life on Knowhere was as normal as ever, the next, completely flipped upside down by some golden maniac. You'd watched as Peter and Mantis had discovered Rocket's limp figure on the floor of the weapons room, evidently gravely injured - your own figure going rigid in a sudden fear as you'd followed in behind them, your gaze meeting the bleary eyed features of your lover, his face paling. It had been a hasty trip to board the Bowie, some weapons not even bothering to be collected as everyone had rushed the raccoon to the ship's Med Bay, working quickly to stabilize his condition. But there was an unexpected catch - a monumental one. One that if not bothered to be deactivated, the one who calls himself Rocket will die… instantly. But, for now, things are settling down. You'd found yourself almost instinctively wandering towards one of your favorite spots on the ship - a small cot off to the side of the upper flybridge, but still in view of the main expanse of windows. Though as you sit in the quiet with the steady hum of the engines keeping you company, a new sound pricks your attention. Footsteps. Heavy, but lazy - evidently dazed. Moments later, a familiar figure appears, passing you by without even a second glance, coming to a halt in front of the balcony overlooking the main flightdeck below. Gaze wandering the vast expanse of space and headphones in, Peter Quill is completely oblivious to his surroundings, the tinny music bleeding from the headphones a compelling piece of evidence. Even more so as yet another two sets of footsteps from behind you gain your attention, urging a small grin to your lips. Mantis and Drax stand in the hallway, evidently conspiring together on behalf of the sorrowed man standing in front of the three of you. Heck, sorrowed is an understatement. The past few years of Peter's life have been what some might call hell. You've been helping him through it as best as you can be, but sometimes… sometimes… you feel as if you just can't do enough. And as Drax delivers a surprisingly accurate, semi-comforting monologue to a now aware Quill, much thanks to Mantis' instruction, the pair take their leave, Peter now realizing your presence. Wordlessly, you offer a small smile and a chuckle, patting the empty spot at your side, scooching over to make room for the lone man in front of you. Though Pete seems to ponder something for a moment before making his way towards you, joining you on the cot, sighing heavily. “If I hadn't been drinkin', maybe Rocket wouldn't-” He mumbles, rolling on his side to face you, tears glistening in his gaze as yet another shaky sigh escapes him. “I'm sorry.” You offer a tight, thin-lipped smile, rubbing your thumb over his cheek, wiping away a loose tear. “There's nothing to apologize for. We'll get that passkey. He'll be fine.” Though your words of reassurance seem to fall on deaf ears, your lover's cheeks glistening with a few more loose tears, of which you once more wipe away. “Everyone around me dies. My Mother, Yondu, Gamora…” He trails off, an anguished, rather strangled sigh being pulled from his lips as he wordlessly wraps his arms around your torso and pulls you close - almost silently vowing to never let you go. “It'll be okay, Peter…” You find yourself murmuring into his chest as he detaches his headphones and docks his Zune into the port behind you, the soft melodies keeping the pair of you company as the momentary quiet stretches on.

Well, not since you and your fellow astronaut had been marooned on this desolate planet, left to fend for yourselves. Which, you would argue, you're both doing quite well in that department. Mark Watney, the botanist you'd somehow managed to get stuck on planet Mars with, had somehow managed to grow potatoes. Yeah - potatoes. On Mars. That's ridiculous. And you? You've been working on a solution to get back in touch with NASA, considering the main communication antenna array had long been smashed to pieces. Pieces that had nearly killed your comrade all those days ago. But tonight, regardless of the raging storm outside, it's rather peaceful. The wind providing a welcome break from the never ending, eerie silence and hum of the Hab's life support systems. “It's time to start thinking long term,” You hear Mark mutter from the desk across the bunk room, the clacking of laptop keys soon following as he continues to work, charting out the course to the Ares 4 landing site and talking to the laptop's camera for the records. You shudder at the mere thought. Who knows if you'll even be alive by the time they get here. And 3,200 kilometers in a rover barely capable of going a full day of use without a recharge? You sigh heavily, shutting the book you'd been reading with a thud, and grabbing your own laptop, before turning your attention to the roaming search light piercing through the blowing Martian dust and rock. You'll solve the problems as they come - one at a time. For now… You allow a shiver to run through you as you glance in the direction of where Mark had been sitting, his gaze resting heavily on you, evidently exhausted. But, as he makes his way to his feet, passing you a small smile, you settle back into your bunk slightly, your own fingers beginning to glide over the keys as you simply listen to the storm outside and the comforting sounds of your Partner no doubt rummaging around the kitchen for something to eat before he ends up falling asleep… Murmuring something incomprehensible beneath your breath, you pull the blanket tighter around your shoulders and get to work. ↫Story↬ (Story written by me! Check me out on Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/user/Kaila_Falcon) …… It was a surprise when he'd showed up on your doorstep, completely unannounced, claiming he needed to talk to you. About what? You're still not too sure. All you do know is that you'd somehow managed to end up not too far from the runway the pilot at your side practically calls home. It has been a short ride to where you are now, lying on your back against a blanket you'd nabbed before you'd left, your gaze wandering the heavens gradually coming to life as the Sun sets. Crickets, the distant ocean waves and traffic all blend into one relaxing sound, coupled with the odd overhead fighter jet passing by. You needed this - life's been busy. And now, as you shift closer to the man at your side, a certain set of emotions settle within you, a notebook and pencil in his grasp. “A rolling reversal might work,” You suggest, glancing at the poorly printed diagram the pilot is peering at in the dying light. At this, Pete Mitchell nods thoughtfully, passing you a rather impressed and surprised look. “If I reversed on a hard cross, I could immediately go to guns on him,” Comes the reply, his hands mimicking the plane's actions. “That sounds a bit too aggressive. The one they call Maverick just chuckles, a smirk tugging at the edges of his lips. “Too aggressive,” He repeats softly, grin broadening. “Yeah, I guess when I see somethin' I go right after it.” The pilot's voice trails off, a note being scribbled on the piece of paper before it's tossed aside, attention now solely focused on you. “You didn't tell me who you were the other night.” Now it's your turn to chuckle, memories of the rather sharply dressed figure deciding to make his move on you in that bar coming to the forefront. “You didn't really give me a chance to.” “I know. But, uh… you were tempted…” You raise an eyebrow questioningly, almost in disbelief. “To ask me out for dinner.” All you can do is huff a chuckle, a blush adorning your cheeks. “Maybe sometime later, but you beat me to it, showing up tonight, out of the blue.” Maverick just grins, once more picking up his notebook and scribbling a last few notes before tuning the radio settled between the pair of you, the soothing melodies beginning to play. Something settles in the silence between you both as the song continues, with Pete finally breaking the silence, his features suddenly a lot closer than you'd last recalled. “It's gonna be complicated. You know, on the first one, I crashed and burned.” Your blush deepens as he speaks, your gaze involuntarily darting to his lips and then back to his eyes. “And the second?” You barely manage to muse, your voice so small it makes your heart skip as he nears, tone lowering into a certain playfulness, his gaze glimmering with a well-intended mischief. “I don't know. But, it's lookin' good so far.” And from there, the night stretches on into a calm bliss, the stars finally beginning to twinkle with the comforting darkness as jet after jet continues to take off and land. This certainly is an evening you won't be forgetting for quite some time.

↫Story↬ (Story written by me! For more stories like these, check me out on Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/user/Kaila_Falcon) A steady rain pounds against the windshield in front of you, the equally rhythmic sound of the wipers going back and forth almost beginning to lull you to sleep. It had been quite an eventful few days to say the least. You'd known of the Autobots living amongst the human population as robots in disguise for quite some time now, much longer than the three much younger children who'd recently joined the scene. In fact, in the time you'd been alongside your Cybertronian allies, one mech in particular seemed to had almost instantly taken a liking to you, hence where you are now. Driving down the Interstate in the pouring rain after your Guardian had wordlessly passed by Ratchet, activating a GroundBridge to nowhere in particular. His actions had come as a surprise to you, but, you'd grabbed the blanket off the back of the couch and shoved it into your backpack, making quick work of clambering into the red and blue Semi sitting quietly in front of the swirling vortex of green, pink and blue. But, you know why you're here, snuggled up in your seat, head resting against the rain stained window, the oncoming traffic's headlights dazzling your hazing vision. Optimus Prime, for once in his life, is unsure of what's to come. And, he's mourning the loss of someone who he'd once called a brother. Ratchet had informed you of… everything… when you'd first frequented the Base, on an evening everyone else had been out in the field. The Prime and Megatron - two polar opposites and sworn enemies - once fought alongside one another. But now, that camaraderie and brotherhood is nothing but space dust - you'd heard the report from the rest of the Team, seen the injuries. The silence in the cab of the Semi truck is comfortable, though it's starting to wear thin on your fatigued mind, your eyes threatening to close themselves even as you tug the blanket tighter around your shoulders, shifting in your seat slightly. And it's only when a soft yawn escapes your lips that your Guardian finally speaks, instantly gaining your drowsy attention. “It's just… a small part of me hoped to change Megatron's mind, not extinguish his Spark,” Optimus explains solemnly, a tone of such genuine regret falling into his voice. A pang of compassion swells within you as his words fall onto your ears, your gaze instinctively drifting to the driver's seat, the insignia proudly emblazoned on the steering wheel now dim, waiting to illuminate with the Prime's next words. “But the Megatron whom I once fought beside perished eons ago; the day he chose to become a Decepticon.” All you can do is nod silently, your thoughts slow to respond. “I know you both were close,” Is all you can muster up to say, another yawn interrupting your sentence. “I'm sorry, Optimus.” Your genuine condolences almost seem to fall on deaf audio receptors. But, you know right well that a small smile is tugging at his faceplate, a wordless nod of thanks likely the only reply the Prime would give. And with that, the pair of you continue to drive, simply enjoying each other's company, the rain and the soft music playing from the radio, thankful for that this moment… Nothing else quite matters as much as now.
“Nobody wants to work anymore”...the problem is that has been said for well over 100 years now! I saw a headline all the way back to 1894 declaring that “nobody wants to work anymore”. This is not a new problem. If we're not careful, our negativity will breed a culture where work is seen as… Cursed A means to an end As a lifeless 9 to 5, tryin' to make a livin' Hallucinating that it's 5 o'clock somewhere Something to “take and shove it” Just another Manic Monday Work is deeper than that, more powerful than that Work is an opportunity… Proverbs 12:11 - “A hard worker has plenty of food, but a person who chases fantasies has no sense.” We say, “nobody wants to work anymore!”...when in reality they just don't want to work for you because you are grumpy! Instead, we need to build A CULTURE WHERE PEOPLE DO WISH TO DO HARD THINGS! There will always be a mountain to climb in building a culture of intentionality within your business. Business is hard…running a business is even harder. Let's stop pretending that our circumstance is unique…because business is hard, business can also be good. So what is the mountain of our time? Dr. Tim Elmore would argue that one primary element is the unprecedented generational diversity, we are experiencing because it is the number one topic that he is asked to speak on as a researcher of youth culture. How do you mix the soil of culture so that it is rich enough to handle the diversity of generational seeds being planted? How do we mix that culture so that it makes the next generation…ALL generations, excited to work? FIRST, WHAT IS CULTURE? Culture is not a business term…it is a biology term Culture is a Petri Dish: what goes in the dish is what grows out of the dish Good in…good out (give examples) Bad in…bad out (give examples) The culture of your business is a DIRECT RESULT of the ingredients that you allow to enter the mash bill. Here are 4 ingredients to mix in the cocktail of a healthy business culture that the next generation will be excited to work in… FAM Time: Team Meeting Must have a means of communication (Imagine if the underwater cables were cut between the US and Europe?) They never used to bother you, but these days, nothing in your life seemed to be the way it once was. Heck, you'd finally gotten the shot at getting one step closer to your dream of flying, being stationed at Quonset Point, back in your home state of Rhode Island. It had come as a surprise and a relief; it was good to be back in familiar territory. Shrugging that thought aside, you jump slightly as another rumble of thunder rolls through your trembling figure, the newspaper you'd been flipping through previously being set aside. He'd said he'd be quick - wanting to do one last final gear check before tomorrow. And then… footsteps. You hadn't even heard him come in. But yet, the ever increasingly familiar figure of Tom Hudner is making his way towards you, a tired grin being passed your way, illuminated by the warm glow of the lamp at your bedside. A wordless exchange is made with your mingling gazes as he silently bundles a set of sleep clothes in his arms and disappears, reappearing moments later and joining you at your side, his weight and warmth a welcome sensation that sets you at ease slightly. “Y'know, after all this time, you never once told me how you managed to end up here, of all places,” You muse softly, rolling onto your side to face him, a humored yet bittersweet look in his gaze that quickly holds yours. “I applied to the Academy right after Pearl Harbor, I wanted to help, as we all did. But yeah, show up to find the heroes were made, the fleet's mothballed…” Tom trails off, huffing a light chuckle. “The war ended a month before I graduated.” Now it's your turn to laugh softly, inching closer to his handsome features. “Surely your family is happy you didn't go,” You suggest to which the man at your side merely offers a small smile. “I heard they're around here?” “Across the Bay in Fall River.” “They must be happy - having you back around and all.” At this, Tom shakes his head, a slight frown creasing his brow. “I think they'd be a bit happier if I were coming back to work for the family. Supposed to take over my old man's grocery stores… But I was called to adventure.” There's a certain excited glimmer in his gaze as he reaches for you, pulling you close. And you don't argue, melting into his strong embrace, a certain unknown fear nagging at you - and not about the weather. “You land that plane in one piece tomorrow, okay?” Tom Hudner nods wordlessly, pressing a tender kiss against your forehead before settling back against the mattress, a soft “okay,” falling from his lips. And as the storm continues to rage outside, you somehow feel a sense of ease fill you as you carefully pry yourself from your boyfriend's arms, making your way to your feet and towards the radio, tuning it and settling back into his arms once more… The gentle hands of sleep finally grabbing at you. «»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«» ↫Connect With Me!↬ My Website (Containing my socials + Contact info + Idea submission forms + other awesome, free stuff!) https://sites.google.com/view/kaila-falcon

And as the night stretches on and a parking spot is found, through the melodies on the radio and the company of someone who you've been finding yourself confiding in a lot more lately, you're gradually beginning to realize that maybe Earth isn't so bad after all, even if there are other planets out there. Because after all, they can wait, right? The moment at hand should be enjoyed to the fullest. «»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«» ↫Info↬ I own no rights to any sounds used in this video! Well, it's the holidays, and we don't keep ya happy for long. Let's get sad about all the people we've lost while making horribly offensive jokes to cope...since, ya know, actual therapy is dumb.
It's a Major Award! "A Christmas Story" house owner Brian Jones talks about owning the iconic house, as well as one of the period-correct cars that goes with it. ↫Story↬ (Story written by me! For more stories like these, check me out on Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/user/Kaila_Falcon) It had been quite an eventful day, that's to say the least. Having nearly exploded and then drowned mere hours after escaping from whatever Russian hospital you'd been cooped up in, the warm presence of being reunited with the rest of your Teammates a very welcome one. But that's not to say the eventfulness of this Mission was over - no… it's really just beginning. As Ethan begins to lay it all out, you simply sit back in the built-in bunk bed you'd almost instantly claimed when you'd clambered into this train car, minutes ago. A warm cup of coffee, courtesy of Benji, is cradled in your grasp and inwardly, you're hoping the caffeine doesn't hinder your ability to sleep. You're utterly exhausted, as is everyone else in the room, notably your Partner and the Analyst the pair of you had somehow managed to pick up: William Brandt. Understandably fatigued, though. After all, who wouldn't be after having pulled yourselves from a freezing Russian river and walked for who knows how many miles, shivering against the cold and your damp clothing. But, now, you're warm… and safe - your assailants won't find any of you here. That thought sticks with you as you let out a chuckle, zoning back in on the conversation. “And how would you suggest we just snatch the codes?” That's Brandt's voice, sounding unfamiliar and rather bored. “We take her out.” “Yeah. We take her out. But you know, discreetly.” Shaking your head you merely share a humored glance with Ethan, who appears equally as perplexed as the Analyst in this moment. But as the Agent continues to workshop the next pieces of the Mission, his voice eventually falling silent and instead replaced by the sound of your Teammates keeping themselves occupied and prepping for tomorrow, you find yourself drifting into a light slumber. The steady hum and clack of the rails beneath you as well as the tones from the music you'd queued up on the rather beaten up Walkman you'd found stashed beneath the pillow on the bunk you now lie in following down after you… with a rather uneasy feeling being drowned out by the comfort of knowing that you're not alone - you have a Team to back you up. ↫Connect With Me!↬ My Website (Containing my socials + Contact info + Idea submission forms + other awesome, free stuff!) https://sites.google.com/view/kaila-falcon ↫Disclaimer↬ None of these sounds, songs or images used to make this are mine. This challenge encompasses the yearly NaNoWriMo Challenge, while also adding a planning month to the mix. Five writers are going through the process of developing an idea, making a fully formed plot and plan, then executing the writing of a first draft in 60 days. Last week we talked about characters. We know that characters drive your story through their own accomplishments and the way they do, or do not, handle plot devices you throw their way, but what about /where/ your story is set? Have you ever heard the term "place as character"? Well, in today's show we talk about it. Join us as we look at what makes a great setting and how you can use that setting to set your story apart from the rest. Go to storycraft.cafe to join in the challenge. We'd love to have you!

iT'S A STORYTELLING MiX TAPE Every story slammer who drops their name in the hat and spontaneously steps on stage is a gutsy rock star. Cue 80s hair and Queen ballads about champions, it's time for SLAMMER OF THE YEAR—where the standout short storytellers of each show from the past year sound off for the top-of-the-charts title. For 2022, we turned up the volume with the theme BATTLE OF THE BANDS. THE LiNE UP Two bands of storytellers vocalized the soundtracks of their lives as each slammer told a 5-minute story inspired by a memory-making song. At intermission, the audience voted on their favorite “album" of stories from each band and selected the band "63!" The winning group then broke out as solo artists, improvising a 3-minute story inspired by a song picked by the Story Story community. Our panel of judges from Dirt Fishermen took note of how everything tracked, and "THE SLAMMER OF THE YEAR 2022" was awarded to John Matthai! You trail behind Rooster and Phoenix, the same two who had somehow managed to get you in this very predicament, your sunglassed gaze scanning over the group of your Teammates beginning to gather around Hondo, a whistle around his neck, two colored footballs in his grasp. Inwardly, you grimace, knowing right well what's about to go down - something you're certainly not in the mood for. But when a sudden crackle of a radio being tuned sounds from behind you, an upbeat song filling the air moments later, a grin tugs at your lips, your spirits improving slightly. "Oh, what the hell?" You hear yourself mutter with a chuckle as the game begins... With you ironically, winding up smack-dab in the middle of it all, a grin plastered to your features. …………… ↫Connect With Me!↬ My Linktree (Containing my socials + Contact info + Idea submission forms + other awesome, free stuff!) https://linktr.ee/Kaila_Falcon …………… ↫Disclaimer↬ None of these sounds, songs or images used to make this are mine. *Yes! This is up earlier than it will be on my YouTube! So, enjoy?* ... ↫Story↬ (Story written by me! Check me out on Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/user/Kaila_Falcon) You had never, in all your years, had ever thought that you'd be witnessing everything that you had over the past few hours. You'd seen places that had once been sprawling cities, beautiful masterpieces of humanity, reduced to nothing but rubble and twisted wreckage... A similar sight to see when you'd been lead back to the crash site of your ship - the Odyssey. Your Crew was all gone, their sleep pods all obliterated to literal ash. But somehow, you'd survived. It had been a complete shock when you'd finally came to after all that time, your head full of foggy recollections of an almost... hauntingly familiar figure clad in white, soot staining his handsomely concerned features. But when you'd finally allowed immensely heavy eyelids to flicker open, shoving aside the throbbing in your head, the aching in your muscles, a new set of surroundings flooded your vision. The same surroundings which now feel like home, the man you thought you'd lost, laying at your side. You'd been urging him for an explanation of what had happened to the planet once flourishing with life, but he had yet to give it, likely trying to determine the best way to say it. Though, you're beginning to put the pieces together. Though the man laying at your side looks and acts identical to your Jack, you can tell that he isn't. He'd almost approached you with a hesitant apprehension when you'd awoke after he'd dragged you from the Odyssey's wreckage... You'd been in Delta Sleep for about 60 years, he'd told you that much. But as the lake of the seemingly last greenspace on Earth laps against the shore, the crickets chirping, the birds cooing... his voice finally sounds from your side, his figure rolling onto its side to face you. "While you were in Delta Sleep," He begins, a hand wandering almost curiously up your arm, his touch gently mesmerizing. "Earth was attacked. Call 'em Scavs." A million questions begin to bubble in your thoughts, though you shush them away, re-focusing on his next words. "They, uh, destroyed our Moon and with that, half the Planet, when they invaded... We won the war, but Earth... was ruined." At this, a light chuckle escapes you, a soft smile tugging at your lips. "But yet you managed to find this place?" You practically whisper, gesturing to the roughly built house surrounding you, though you can tell it was built with care. Jack Harper just grins, clambering out of bed and wandering away towards the makeshift kitchen, his shadowy silhouette coming to a halt beside the record player he'd somehow managed to scrounge up amongst Earth's wreckage. And as he drops the needle, a familiar tune begins to filter through the speakers, one that almost instantly brings tears to your eyes. "You always loved this song," You muse softly, bittersweet memories pricking your thoughts. The bed dips slightly at his added weight as he climbs back in, shifting closer to you this time. "I'm not him. I know I'm not," He hums, his gaze raising to yours carrying almost a sadness to it. "But I've loved you for as long as I can remember... I don't know how else to say it." A pang of sorrow ripples through you at his words as he reaches for you, arms securing your form to his as if he's scared you might disappear on him at any given moment. "Those memories are what make you who you are, Jack. They're yours - they're ours. And that's what has made our love last, no matter how much time has passed." With those words falling from your lips, you almost feel him relax around you, a relief filling his figure. And as the night stretches on, the music keeping you both company on a calm night such as this, you can't help but feel at ease. You're finally home.
↫Note↬ Yes! This is an early release of this upload! It won't be on my YouTube until Sept. 7th, so enjoy! (Frankly, I just needed something new to fall asleep to, pronto!) … ↫Story↬ (Story written by me! Check me out on Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/user/Kaila_Falcon) … Rain pounds against the window where you lay, absentmindedly flicking through the pages in the latest newspaper issue. A rumble of thunder ripples through you, tearing you from your reading, only to be met with a familiarly comforting grin. You'd nearly forgotten Pete was spending the night after you convinced him this storm was too risky to venture back to his quarters at TOP GUN. He'd replied with a rather perplexed look, stating the obvious fact that he's a fighter pilot for a living - his entire career is risky. But, you'd insisted and thankfully, he'd listened. Wordlessly, Pete clambers into bed beside you while you set your newspaper aside and shut off the light, bathing the room in a dim darkness. You can tell something has been bothering the pilot they call Maverick, who lays at your side. He hasn't been himself since he'd been called back to teach a class of TOP GUN graduates for a combat mission by the likes that no pilot currently alive has ever seen. And after having watched Pete and his pilots this afternoon, on the beach, realization had struck you. Out of the group, a certain pilot had stuck out to you - strikingly familiar to someone you had only had the privilege of meeting once, much thanks to Maverick's antics back in the day. A bittersweet smile tugs at your lips at that thought as you roll onto your side, facing the brunet. “Bradley,” You state bluntly, earning a surprised look from Pete. “Bradley Bradshaw. He looks strikingly similar to Nick, wouldn't you say?” At this, the man at your side nods thoughtfully, gaze clouding over momentarily. “I saw the way he acts around you, and you around he…” You trail off, a frown forming on your features. “What happened, Pete?” At this, your pilot sighs heavily, gaze raising to the ceiling rather than keeping yours. “I pulled his papers from the Naval Academy - took years off of his career,” He explains, tone heavy with sorrow. You shift closer to his side, your presence offering a slight reassurance as you prompt him to continue. “Why?” “His Mother never wanted him to fly, not after what happened to Goose. She made me promise before she died, so…” Now it's your turn to sigh, biting your lip to keep your rising emotions at bay. You can only feel a fraction of the pain the man at your side must feel. “He will always resent me for what I did. Why should he resent her, too?” Maverick muses, tone cracking a bit as his gaze finally meets yours, glistening with unshed tears and pools of sorrow. “That's a tough choice,” Is all you can hum. Pete simply nods, a shaky breath being taken. “I was trying to be the Father he lost. I just… I wish I would've done it better. The truth is… I didn't think he was ready.” A beat of silence passes, a jolt of lightning bathing the room in a momentary white light, illuminating Pete's features almost perfectly, the broken and loneliness oh so evident beneath and behind a gaze usually filled with confidence and optimism. “Is he ready now?” You breathe while Maverick simply shakes his head in uncertainty, a frown and teary eyes meeting your gaze. Unable to do much more, you wordlessly clamber out of bed, tuning the rather worn looking radio at your bedside before sliding back beneath the covers, finding yourself wrapped in a pair of strong arms, a thankfulness in his embrace. And soon enough, as the night stretches on, you both find yourselves drifting along in a light yet restful slumber, the raging storm outside no longer a bother and instead, a comfort, just like one another's presences.

Anger, frustration and confusion all cloud your headspace as you lay in bed, waiting for the familiar sound of the door being unlocked to reach your ears. Rain pounds against the window at your side, the glass stained with water droplets. Today had been eventful. Far too eventful for your liking. Your boyfriend and fellow pilot seemed to have it out for the very man who's instructing you all this week. And to you, it makes sense. Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell was the one flying when Bradley's Father died… But what happened today… it seemed far more personal. You and Rooster have had plenty a conversation about his past and rather rocky childhood, but never had he seemed to have any hard feelings towards Captain Mitchell… Unless he'd kept it hidden away until now. A familiar set of keys against the door pulls you from your thoughts as you sit up in bed, the dull glow of the lamp at your bedside illuminating the room. A tired and saddened looking Bradley is wordlessly wandering towards where you lay, shedding his boots and flightsuit in the process. Simply passing you a glance, he clambers into bed at your side, getting comfortable. But you can't let him just fall asleep without answers. Huffing, you prop yourself up on your elbow, rolling onto your side to face him. “You seriously broke every rule in the book today, you know that, right?” You muse aloud, tone soft but firm. Your boyfriend just passes you yet another tired glance. “Are you trying to get yourself kicked out?!” “Don't worry about it,” Comes the reply, a mere grumble, though it carries an air of sorrow. “Well, I am worried about it, Bradley! If you get kicked out, you leave the rest of us flying with Hangman. Talk to me! What the hell happened up there today?” A moment of silence passes as Rooster sighs, turning to face you, his brown gaze meeting yours. “He pulled my papers.” Confusion pricks your thoughts. “What? Who?” “Maverick,” He admits, a frustration in his tone. “He pulled my application from the Naval Academy - set me back four years.” You shift closer to the man at your side, a feeling of compassion mixing with your confusion. “Why would he do that, though?” Your question is once more met with a mere look of fatigue, frustration and uncertainty. And as a silence blankets the pair of you yet again, you allow it to settle this time, though it doesn't last long, with Bradley cueing up a soft playlist to keep you both company on this rainy night. With the rain and the music and the presence of the pilot at your side, an ease that seems to be shared fills the air between the pair of you - the same ease that follows you both into a light yet restful slumber, ready to tackle tomorrow's challenges, whatever they may be. … ↫Connect With Me!↬ My Linktree (Containing my socials + Contact info + Idea submission forms + other awesome, free stuff!) https://linktr.ee/Kaila_Falcon .. ↫Disclaimer↬ Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. You honestly have no idea why you're even here, watching your comrades play pool. You'd been recalled from your post for whatever this mission was, and apparently, all your other classmates from Top Gun had gotten the same message. "If it ain't Phoenix! Here I thought we were special, Coyote!" Hangman hollers from where he's standing, drink in hand. And indeed it is Phoenix, accompanied by two others you almost immediately recognize - Payback and Fanboy. "Who's he?" She asks nonchalantly, gesturing to the person who'd been sitting opposite to you, munching away on peanuts. "Who's who?" Phoenix motions to him once more, the group of them following her gaze. "When did you get in?" "Oh, I've been here the whole time," The newcomer stammers slightly, earning a chuckle from the group in front of you while you simply exchange a look with Phoenix. "Man's a stealth pilot." "Literally." "Weapon Systems Officer, actually," Comes the reply, once more sounding hesitant and unsure. "With no sense of humor," Hangman grimaces, wandering away, no doubt going to get some more drinks. "What do they call you?" The woman who'd first noticed him inquires, genuine curiosity in her tone. "Bob." "No, your callsign," Payback chuckles, shaking his head. "Uh... Bob..." He repeats with a soft tone. "Bob Floyd. You're my new backseater?" "Looks like it, yeah." And as Phoenix passes Bob the pool cue, your gaze wanders out over the array of people, noticing a slightly older pilot sitting alone at the bar, the insignia for Top Gun barely visible on his jacket. He looks sort of lost... almost as if he's searching for someone or something... Shrugging away the thought, your gaze refocuses on your friends, the rumble of an engine outside meeting your ears. And before you know it, Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw is wandering towards you and Phoenix, clad in a plain shirt and flannel, a pair of dark sunglasses sitting upon his features. "This is how I find out you're stateside?" "Yeah, I just thought I'd surprise you." Sharing a smile with you, Rooster takes a seat at your side, Phoenix following suit. "It's good to see you." "Good to see you too." And as the evening stretches on, you can't help but feel a sense of ease and excitement for whatever this mission may hold. After all, you'll be with your comrades yet again, ready to take to the skies once again. …………… ↫Info↬ I own no rights to any sounds used in this video! ↫Story↬ (Story written by me! For more stories like these, check me out on Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/user/Kaila_Falcon) .......... You'd known Kanan Jarrus for as long as you could remember. Well, you'd first known him as Caleb Dume, but that was before the world got flipped upside down and the soldiers you'd once fought alongside like brothers turned against you both - ordered to kill. The pair of you had ran. Ran until you'd found yourselves once more fighting for a worthy and noble cause - alongside a family once more. But regardless of how long you've known the brown haired Jedi for, you can't quite say you've ever seen him this annoyed… yet so fondly determined. Ezra Bridger, yet another Force-sensitive boy the Empire had yet to find, was taken under the wing of your friend a few months ago after a run-in on the very planet you're on now - Lothal. ‘Ezra's a fiery one, that's for sure,' you chuckle inwardly, watching from the overhang of the cave the three of you had set up camp in as the boy works to keep himself from teetering off the edge of the cliff in a one-handed handstand, Kanan by his side. “Focus. Focus on letting go,” He urges, earning a scoff from the younger one. “Letting go? I'd rather hold on if you don't mind.” At this, Kanan shakes his head, passing Ezra a disapproving glance. “Enough jokes. Focus.” “I'm trying!” “Do or do not, there is no try,” The Jedi reminds, a rather stern expression crossing his features, visible from even the slight distance from where you watch, silently peering through the light rain. “What does that even mean? How can I do something if I don't try to do it?” Ezra muses, dropping rather clumsily to his feet, rubbing his shoulders with a frown, his damp hair falling in front of his eyes. “Well… You see…” Kanan trails off, searching for a valid explanation that no one even back at the Temple ever knew the answer to - no one besides the Grand Master himself. “Actually, that one always confused me too, but Master Yoda sure used to say it a lot.” From your side, Hera's droid by the name of Chopper mutters something along the lines of a disapproving laugh, no doubt unimpressed by your friend's apparent lack of an explanation. Hearing the droid, Ezra shoots you and he a look, clearly angry and beyond annoyed. Seeing his student's shift in moods, Kanan gently places a hand on the boy's shoulder, guiding him a bit farther down the grassy path, away from the rock ledge, un-clipping his two-part Saber from his belt and assembling it. “Here. let's try something else.” The pair's footsteps retreat from your senses as they wander away from your direct view, their faint voices and their presence in the Force the only thing keeping you company. And as you allow their chatter and training to fade into a constant murmur, the Astromech leaving your side with a few soft beeps and whistles, you settle on the blanket laid out beneath you, closing your eyes and… letting go. Something that you're sure Ezra will soon understand how to do. Times are changing for the better… and maybe, with three Jedi standing together… Maybe the fight against the Empire stands a chance after all. .......... ↫Connect With Me!↬ My Website (Containing my socials + Contact info + Idea submission forms + other awesome, free stuff!) https://sites.google.com/view/kaila-falcon .......... ↫Disclaimer↬ None of these sounds, songs or images used to make this are mine. ↫Story↬ (Story written by me! For more stories like these, check me out on Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/user/Kaila_Falcon) …………… Rain pounds against the window. Thunder rattles the glass pane keeping out the water so violently splashing against it. And as the low rumble ripples through your quivering, shaking form, laying in bed, swaddled beneath the sheets, an involuntary gasp of alarm escapes you - the bedroom surrounding you illuminating with a bright white jolt of lightning. The storm outside is bad - worse than they usually are this time of year. And for someone who's afraid of the slightest shift to darker weather, it certainly isn't ideal. Thankfully, the sound of a set of keys unlocking the door to the small apartment you and your fiancé currently inhabit pulls you from your anxious state for a moment, the familiar figure appearing in the doorway seconds later, illuminated briefly by the light from the hallway. He sighs heavily upon observing your no doubt likely disheveled figure, sitting up in bed, squinting through the darkness with a silent beckoning. His footsteps echo in the momentary silence, the sound of the indistinct radio show the only other thing aloud, other than the raging weather outside. Marc Spector quietly slips under the covers after shedding his previous clothing and donning something more comfortable, a gentle murmur of assurance falling from his lips. “It's alright. You're alright.” A beat of silence passes, his tone once more filling the empty space with seemingly genuine reassurance. “It's alright. Just breathe through it - gets easier.” He shifts towards you slightly in an attempt to pull your trembling figure closer to him, however, you wordlessly shift away, not quite believing that after all this time… he can suddenly be so intimately involved with you again. “I am sorry…” Marc muses aloud, a genuine sadness in his tone as you simply stare at the ceiling, vainly attempting to stop your anxious thoughts and shaking form, trying to take his advice and breathe through your situation. “For whatever that's worth.” The silence settles between the pair of you once more, your mind abuzz with… everything. “You could've told me, you know. About what it was like for you.” You murmur through the darkness, rolling on your side to face the man beside you. “For what it's worth, I had it under control until very recently.” “What happened?” “Doesn't matter,” Comes his reply, sounding slightly broken, but yet he musters up the usual façade. “We could've handled it - together. Like we're supposed to?” “Yeah. That's not really what I do, is it? Never really been able to just talk about… everything.” You frown at his sudden shift in tone, his guard finally seeming to be let down. And almost instantly, a pang of guilt replaces your anxieties about the storm raging outside your windows. Instead, you wordlessly get up out of bed and make your way over to the radio, popping in the mixtape you and Marc both crafted for nights like these. As the soothing melodies of the music begin to play, you clamber back into bed, this time reaching for him, to which he happily accepts, wrapping you in an embrace. And as you both begin to drift off into a slumber, you could swear you hear him murmur something incomprehensible beneath his breath… You're just hoping it was ‘I love you.' …………… ↫Info↬ I own no rights to any sounds used in this video!
