AFP editors Crystal Graham and Chris Graham have been hard at work this week tracking down the details of three ongoing controversies involving the Augusta County Sheriff's Office. In our Friday podcast, #TeamAFP breaks down: Augusta County: Family of man who died in police custody wants answers The family of a Staunton man who died in the back of an Augusta County Sheriff's Office patrol car on May 5 is trying to get answers. “There is real injustice here, and I truly feel like Stefan was assaulted to the point of his death,” Wade Gerencser, the brother of Stefan Gerencser, 39, wrote on social media, in a post brought to our attention by a family friend, Gary Bone, who served in the Marine Corps with the Gerencser brothers. Former deputy files $5.35M suit against Augusta County sheriff over forced resignation The $5.35 million federal civil rights lawsuit filed against Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith that is making news today might need to be taken with a grain of salt. The reason I'm starting there: the allegations in the suit, Reynolds v. Smith, filed in the Harrisonburg Division of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia, filed on behalf of a former sheriff's deputy, Dennis Reynolds, were first peddled to me in 2023 by people who I know to be sworn political enemies of Smith, whose original sin was running for sheriff in 2015 against the handpicked candidate of the local political machine, and then winning. Augusta County sheriff reprimands Black deputy over lighthearted TikTok Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith still hasn't commented on the lawsuit alleging that he sexually harassed a former male employee, but he found time on Thursday to publicly reprimand a Black deputy for comments she made on a TikTok video. In case you're wondering, yes, this was another instance of your sheriff letting himself get played on a public stage.
Take a wild ride through the chaotic minds of John and Jay as they navigate everything from indie horror films to metal music breakdowns in this unfiltered exploration of pop culture's strangest corners. The hosts kick off with an enthusiastic analysis of "Finley," a short horror film featuring a hilariously incompetent killer puppet who struggles to murder his victims until they threaten his beloved cat. "I wanted more of this," John declares, praising the puppet's emotional expressiveness while lamenting the short's brevity. Their mutual excitement for this hidden gem reveals their appreciation for unique, creative approaches to familiar horror tropes. When the conversation shifts to music, prepare for an authentic listening party as the duo introduces each other to metal bands like Wage War and Dead by April. Their genuine reactions—complete with air drumming and spontaneous commentary on pitch harmonics and electronic elements—create an intimate experience that feels like discovering new music with friends. John's confession about screaming along to metal songs in the shower adds a relatable, humorous dimension to their musical exploration.Television and film recommendations round out the episode, with particular enthusiasm for "AP Bio," starring Glenn Howerton as a disgraced Harvard professor teaching in Toledo. "Dude, the show is so good," John insists, highlighting the similarities between Howerton's character and his iconic role as Dennis Reynolds in "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." This leads to a highlight reel of Dennis's most unhinged moments, including his famous Range Rover meltdown.Subscribe now for weekly doses of unfiltered commentary, unexpected pop culture discoveries, and the kind of inappropriate humor that will have you laughing despite your better judgment. What can you expect from this episode? Laser pointers, bald caps, Sinbad, open mics, fountains, Jon Bon Jovi, Mr. Von Jovi, Mr. Bovine Joni, cat food, twins, Ross's dog Rudy, and walking a mile in someone else's shoes. I know what you're thinking, this is all fine but what does Rob Thomas have to do with any of this?
We're on our 10th to last episode of the show now and Carrie and Samantha are realizing that they have Dennis Reynolds voice feelings. Big too, but only for roughly one scene of season 6 episode 11, The Domino Effect. Honestly everyone sucked this week except Charlotte (who was just boring), so instead why don't you listen to us talk about how Keri Russell's forehead vein acting is superior to Emma Watson's eyebrow acting.
On Episode 2 of our podcast where we are a couple of assholes, Alex and Spencer decided to pick shows about assholes. Recently added, and recently canceled, The Mick (2017) and A.P Bio (2018) feature our favorite actors from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Spencer, not always a fan of Dee Reynolds, enjoyed The Mick so much he binged the entire first season before we had a chance to talk! Cheeky. Alex, a big fan of Dennis Reynolds, can't stand A.P. Bio and fails to understand how it isn't canceled but The Mick was. Theme Song: "Astronaut" by The Spin WiresFirst is a No Show Radio production. Mind your ears as we unpack the unusual. Glenn Howerton stars as Jack Griffin, a disgraced Harvard philosophy scholar who loses out on his dream job and is forced to return to Toledo, Ohio, to teach Advanced Placement biology, in the NBC comedy series "A.P. Week 14 - We take a realistic look into the unrealistic world of romantic comedies that we LOVE to hate. This Week: Must Love Dogs (2005) Starring John Cusack and Diane Lane. An impossible movie about people who don't exist, and somehow a dog is involved. (LEAVE THE DOGS OUT OF THIS) We ask the tough questions this week: What. The. Fuck? Are these real people? (Of course not) Why is Diane Lane arguing about getting a bargain on chicken? Why is Dennis Reynolds in this? Is EVERYONE in this movie going through a divorce? (Even the kids?!)
