Howdy, loyal readers and listeners to the Voice Of GO(r)D podcast.Today I'm bringing you an interview I gave to Grant Martsolf of The Savage CollectiveSubstack back in November, where he peppered me with a few questions about the trucking business in general, and asked me why I think that truckers are able to overcome the odds in starting and maintaining families at higher rates than other blue collar workers.Grant has been working with the Institute for Family Studies over and above his position as a professor at the University of Pittsburgh and his project of investigating life in the machine age here on Substack, and you ought to check out his work.Speaking of IFS, they put out a banger of a manifesto last week called A Future for The Family - A New Technology Agenda for the Right which seeks to outline a pro family and pro society approach to this new digital realm we all live in. Last month, the House passed the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act, a bipartisan tax deal that would extend some of former President Donald J. Trump's most successful economic policies, including the Child Tax Credit, Research & Development Expensing… all the while ending wasteful COVID-era programs. But the Senate must step up and pass this legislation to kickstart the economy. In light of this news, I wanted to offer Jon Schweppe, policy director of the American Principles Project, to join the show at CPAC to discuss. He'd be able to speak to the following: Pro-investment policies, like Research & Development expensing, will help boost manufacturing and keep business in America, not China. The Senate has a key opportunity to incentivize family formation and expansion through the Child Tax Credit. Additionally, Schweppe will be able to speak as to how Bidenomics is punishing American workers and families with lower wages, higher interest rates, and rising costs. We cannot tax our way out of this economic crisis, but this is an opportunity to pass a pro-growth bill that will put dollars back into the hands of manufacturers, small businesses, and families.

Up to 15% of couples have trouble conceiving, and that number continues to increase each year. As a result, many couples are turning to alternative methods in hopes of growing their families. Millions of couples are seeing success via egg donation, sperm donation, embryo donation, and surrogacy. With these third-party methods, there could be some cause for legal concerns. That's why we were so happy to chat with Amanda Troxler, founder of Troxlaw in Los Angeles. Amanda has been practicing family formation law since 2013. Welcome to the Marriage Talk Podcast - Ep 154 - Greg and Erin Smalley - A Special Conversation at Grand Hotel During the October "Celebrate Your Marriage Conference" at Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, our keynote speakers were Greg and Erin Smalley from Focus on the Family. What a pleasure it was to sit down with them for an extended conversation about marriage, relationship repair, and so much more! Dr. Greg Smalley serves as the vice president of Marriage and Family Formation at Focus on the Family. In this role, he develops and oversees initiatives that prepare individuals for marriage, strengthen and nurture existing marriages and help couples in marital crises. Prior to joining Focus, Smalley worked for the Center for Relationship Enrichment at John Brown University and as president of the National Institute of Marriage. He is the author of 17 books including “Fight Your Way to a Better Marriage,” “The DNA of Parent and Teen Relationships” and “The Whole-Hearted Marriage.” He and his wife, Erin, co-created “Ready to Wed,” a complete premarital curriculum for engaged couples and the online Focus on Marriage Assessment. They also released “Crazy Little Thing Called Marriage: 12 Secrets to a Lifelong Romance” in 2016. Smalley's passion for marriage began as a young boy. He is the son of the late Dr. Gary Smalley, a family counselor, president and founder of the Smalley Relationship Center and author of 40 books on marriage. Smalley regularly attended his father's conferences and absorbed the importance of marriage. He frequently had people come up to him at events and say, “Your dad saved my marriage.” Smalley knew early in his career that he wanted to be more hands-on in helping couples. After receiving his doctorate at the Rosemead School of Psychology at Biola University in Southern California and a counseling degree from Denver Seminary, he and Erin led intensive marriage seminars around the world and trained pastors, professionals and lay leaders on how to effectively work with married and engaged couples. Married since 1992, Greg and Erin live in Colorado with their three daughters, Taylor, Murphy and Annie, and their son, Garrison. Smalley brings at least one child to every age-appropriate event, exposing them to the crucial role marriage plays in the family and society. In this informative podcast I speak with international Surrogacy Lawyer Stephanie Caballero (The Surrogacy Law Center - California), who dispels the myths and gives us the facts about surrogacy. What it is, what's involved, how it works as well as the legalities you need to know. Stephanie and her firm specialise exclusively in Family Formation and Reproductive Law and have represented over 3,500 clients, including Intended Parents, Surrogates and Donors from all over the world through Surrogacy, Egg, Sperm, and Embryo Donation. Stephanie has appeared on various programs and print media including the Today Show, HuffPost Live, ABC News, BBC Mundo, The Daily Beast, In Touch Magazine, The Bakersfield Californian, The Examiner, Creating a Family radio program, NPR, The Los Angeles Times, The Union Tribune, the L.A. Daily Journal and now Conceive Baby. Stephanie had her own journey through infertility, after eight years of treatments including having endured more than 10 artificial insemination procedures, three surgeries, three miscarriages, and 13 IVF procedures she finally realised her dream of having children when a surrogate carried her twins. Stephanie also had to adopt her twins because the state where they were born did not recognise surrogacy. Stephanie now helps other couples realise their family dreams through surrogacy as a member of the American Bar Association, San Diego Bar Association, and American Society of Reproductive Medicine, serving on the board of its Legal Professional Group. Stephanie also serves on the boards of Parents Via Egg Donation (PVED) and Fertile Action. If you've ever wondered about the option of surrogacy, you must listen to this.

It's not news to say that marriages are struggling. Statistics show that 50% of first marriages will end in divorce (in and outside the church) and second marriages have an even greater chance of ending in divorce. Dr. Greg Smalley serves as the vice president of Marriage and Family Formation at Focus on the Family. He says the one thing it takes to have a great marriage is creating a marriage that feels safe. Hearts only open when they feel safe. We feel safe when the people around us see us and appreciate us. Gratitude. Gratitude starts with an awareness of what this person is doing that you appreciate. And gratitude is not just an attitude. It needs to be expressed. Tell your spouse that you are grateful, not just for what they do but for who they are. If you’re in a season in your marriage where you can’t even think of one thing you are grateful for in your spouse, ask God to show you what He loves about your spouse. It could transform your marriage.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
What’s the secret to a happy marriage? Two simple words: THANK YOU. Dr. Greg Smalley, Director of Marriage and Family Formation with Focus on the Family says, 'Of course, there are other important factors that build a strong marriage. But when it comes to predicting long-term stability and satisfaction in marriage, research shows that gratitude and kindness matter most.' Amanda Troxler has been practicing family formation law since 2013. She represents hundreds of Intended Parents, Donors, and Surrogates a year. Additionally, Amanda has personal experience in third party assisted reproduction, having been an egg donor. In today's show we are going to explain what family formation law is. As a fertility patient, it's important that you understand some of the basic legal pieces that you might want to have in place for your journey, whether that be for IVF, or if you're going to be using donor eggs, donor sperm, or using a gestational carrier. I very much love Amanda's thoughtful and caring approach to making family formation law approachable. As she says, “healthy families are formed through honest communication and centering the needs of the future child." Amanda received her J.D. from UCLA law on a Dean's Merit Scholarship in 2012. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University in 2008. Amanda is a member of the Academy of California Adoption-ART Lawyers (“ACAL”), Society for Ethics in Egg Donation and Surrogacy (“SEEDS”), and American Society of Reproductive Medicine (“ASRM”). Women's Health, Wisdom, and. . . WINE! is a weekly conversation with practitioners, providers, patients, and healers about complex reproductive medicine and women's health challenges, the value of an integrative approach to these challenges, many of the women's health topics you're already thinking about but uncomfortable talking about, and my personal favorite. . . WINE!One of the most significant and exciting changes one can experience in life is starting a family. Assisted reproductive technology (ART) is helping many people start (and grow) their families. Beyond ART, though, family formation is important because families are at the heart of numerous decisions, roles, and responsibilities with implications for understanding the well-being of families, adults and children. The process of building a family beyond the traditional "when-sperm-meets-egg" route including the complexities of surrogacy, genetic material donation, and adoption can oftentimes be tricky. As an individual or couple embarks on this journey, oftentimes legal assistance is needed (and recommended) to successfully navigate the legal process of building a family.About Sherry:Sherry Fox is a native New Yorker born in Queens to Caribbean parents who instilled in her a deep and abiding love for food. She has two children and a bonus child who keeps her very busy and are constant sources of laughter. She enjoys being active, is a proud Gryffindor, and loves reading Jane Austen novels. She recognizes that building a family can involve many complex issues. For that reason, she provides her clients with step by step support and advice, acknowledging that this is an emotional journey that requires both sensitive attention and legal acumen, in order to make the process towards parenthood as smooth as possible. She is honored to assist all types of families, including individuals, heterosexual couples, and same-sex couples. She works with intended parents, gestational carriers, and donors as they navigate the journey of assisted family formation.Resources Mentioned:I Want to Put a Baby In You PodcastThe Broken Brown EggConnect with Sherry:FacebookWebsiteInstagramThe podcast's hashtag is #nourishyourflourish. Then, thriving as a single longing to be married. Then, Greg comforts a Perry and Shawna Mornings listener whose marriage has died. Next, the key to actor Samuel L Jackson's 41 year marriage. There are stark social consequences for America's declining fertility. What can we do to reverse the trends we're seeing? Politicians on both sides of the aisle propose incentives and resources for family formation, it is difficult to know which options would be successful. Good ideas for policy change begin with good data, and through commitment and cooperation we can move in a pro-family, pro-life direction. Good data, however, is something that is unheard of when it comes to abortion. The abortion industry wants to hide the stories of mothers who have had traumatizing experiences with chemical or surgical abortion, and they have manipulated the government to rollback requirements on reporting. Today we are joined by an expert in data analysis to help us sift through ideas for strengthening the American family.
