The Digital Age will raise the question of how we humans will stay relevant in the workplace. To stay relevant, we have to be able to excel cognitively, behaviorally, and emotionally in ways that technology can't.Professor Ed Hess believes that requires us to become Hyper-Learners: continuously learning, unlearning, and relearning at the speed of change. To do that, we have to overcome our reflexive ways of being: seeking confirmation of what we believe, emotionally defending our beliefs and our ego, and seeking cohesiveness of our mental models.Hyper-Learning requires a new way of being and a radical new way of working. In Part 1 of this how-to book, Hess takes a practical workbook approach and helps readers create their Hyper-Learning Mindset, choose and embrace their needed Hyper-Learning Behaviors, and adopt their daily Hyper-Learning Practices. One of the primary focus areas of Force Design 2030 is command, control, communications, computers, cyber, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and targeting or what we commonly refer to as C5ISRT. In the Commandant's Force Design Annual Update released in April, he stated that we now have an enhanced understanding of the need to succeed and not just compete in C5ISRT. Marine Corps Systems Command's Command Element Systems Portfolio provides and sustains many of these capabilities for the Fleet Marine Force. Marines need timely, actionable intelligence to develop plans for fires and maneuvers. Program Manager Intelligence Systems acquires the necessary capabilities to collect, process, exploit and disseminate intelligence information. Manny sits down with the Program Manager for Intelligence Systems, Lt. Col. David Bain, to discuss how the portfolio is developing and fielding critical capabilities for our Marines. The views expressed in this podcast reflect those of the speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views, policies or positions of the United States Marine Corps or Department of Defense. How do Marines - how do leaders of all kinds - make the right decisions in technology-enhanced warfare? Historically, people were trained on how to reliably react in highly predictable and reoccurring conditions. However, in the Digital Age, the past will no longer be a good predictor of the future. Technology will have the ability to continuously create new ways of doing – reacting at a speed faster than humans can normally react. So, how will you train leaders and Marines to react quickly and correctly in continuous changing environments enabled by technology? How does an individual train him or herself to be highly adaptable real-time so she or he can process incoming stimuli quickly and correctly without “bias”? What state of “being” do people need to be in to excel in such environments? This brings us to Hyper-Learning. Why Hyper-Learning? The past will no longer be a reliable predictor of the future because of the pace of technological change & its impact. Human Agility & adaptation will become strategic imperatives. Human cognitive, behavioral & emotional excellence will be key. Hyper-learning is high-quality, continual, fast learning, and will be necessary to keep pace with the speed of change and to successfully explore the unknown, adapt continually, and upgrade our internal cognitive operating system—our mental models. Learn – Unlearn – Relearn @ the speed of change. Edward D. Hess is Professor Emeritus of Business Administration, Batten Fellow and Batten Executive-in-Residence Emeritus at the Darden Graduate School of Business, University of Virginia, and the author of Hyper-Learning: How to Adapt to the Speed of Change, which was published by Berrett-Koehler in August 2020. Edición: Septiembre 2020Edward D. The Digital Age will raise the question of how humans will stay relevant in the workplace. To stay relevant, we have to be able to excel cognitively, behaviourally, and emotionally in ways that technology can't. Our guest believes, this requires us to become Hyper-Learners: continuously learning, unlearning, and relearning at the speed of change. To do that, we have to overcome our reflexive ways of being: seeking confirmation of what we believe, emotionally defending our beliefs and our ego, and seeking cohesiveness of our mental models. Hyper-Learning requires a new way of being… and a radical new way of working. We welcome a great friend of the innovation show, hyper learner and author of "Hyper-Learning: How to Adapt to the Speed of Change", Ed Hess. More about Ed: https://www.edhess.org/
In this podcast, my guest is professor Edward D. Hess the author of a new book entitled "Hyper-Learning: How to Adapt to the Speed of Change." We speak about the issues that we all face in this fast-paced digital world, especially to stay relevant and excel cognitively, behaviorally, and emotionally in all ways that technology can. Ed believes that it requires us to become what he refers to as hyper-learners defined as "Continuously learning, unlearning, and relearning at the speed of change. Happy Listening!
