Friday August 28, 2020A Muslim speaks the truth, is trustworthy, keeps his/her promises, doesn't cheat, doesn't "over-commit and under-delivers". In other words, a Muslim is Reliable. Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) is an example for the Muslims to follow. His reliability and trustworthiness is the hallmark of his character and was witnessed by his people even before he was given prophethood. He was a walking Quran. A Muslim must strive to follow his example.

Friday August 14, 2020Part 3 of developing self-accountability and self-reckoning. Umar (ra) said: "Take account of yourself before account is taken of you". What does it mean to take an account of oneself of their actions, utterances and intentions? How self-accounting prepares one for the reckoning of the hereafter and purifies the soul? What are the fruits of self-audit here in this world and then in the hereafter? How do we train our Nafs (ego) to get rid of excuses, self-delusions and cop outs so that we imbibe the true meaning of sacrifice.

This week Earl and Jurek take control of a tiny wizard as they play Solomon's Key on the NES! This game seems like it should be really fun but, like so many games of the time, the difficulty makes having fun almost impossible! The game looks and controls fine, but the music is a little lacking. The guys also field a very interesting discussion question! Also, the news of Chadwick Boseman's passing broke while this episode was being recorded, so the guys take a little time to talk about it. Come have a drink with us! WAKANDA FOREVER!! NOTE: This episode was recorded on Friday August 28, 2020. Since then, Jurek got married! Be sure to tweet him your congratulations @aktirak! Thanks for listening, Revelers! ~Earl

This week Jurek and Earl once again take to the virtual skies as they play Super Earth Defense Force on the Super Nintendo! The game turns out to be a fairly lackluster entry in the shoot em' up genre. It plays fine enough, but the difficulty is just too much! However, the guys take a little time to learn about Earth's actual defense force! They also play a few rounds of guess the poorly described movie! Come have a drink with us! Cheers! We're back, Revelers! After an accidental month long hiatus, Earl and Jurek are back playing River City Ransom on the NES! This game is pretty great and it could be argued that it's the best beat em' up on the NES! It's extraordinarily deep for a beat em' up, including many RPG elements not found in many games of the time! The music is also pretty great! Come have a drink with us! Cheers! NOTE: This episode was recorded on Friday August 7, 2020. Apologies for the month long break, Revelers! In the interest of full transparency, it was the end of summer and I was feeling lazy, so I didn't publish any episodes. However, it's fall now and we're back on track, or at least we will be by the end of the week! Expect 2 more episodes this week! Thanks for sticking with us, Revelers! ~Earl

I'm joined by singer-songwriter Karen Jonas for Episode 116. Jonas just recently released The Southwest Sky and Other Dreams this past Friday (August 28). As the title alludes, 10 songs of The Southwest Sky are character-driven vignettes largely inspired by the vast landscapes, small Interstate towns, and hardened individuals who claim the land as their home. Songs such as "Farmer John," "Pink Leather Boots," and the opening "The Last Cowboy (at the Bowling Alley)" feel like snapshot stories. Jonas lets her imagination run wild as she's counting up the mile marker signs, letting these robust characters come to life with engaging storytelling and encounters. Anyone who has been bored on a long trek of highway knows, a strange billboard, abandoned building, or roadside stops can set your mind to wander as you try and fill in background settings. Jonas very much does the same as she leads you through this traveling album. During this interview, Jonas and I discuss the songs and stories that make up The Southwest Sky and Other Dreams, knowing when inspiration hits, our mutual love of coffee, Bob Dylan, reading, & daydreaming, releasing an album in the midst of a pandemic (and adapting to our current situation), finding space and time to let songs and stories come to life, and how she's grown and evolved as an artist. This episode's presenting partner is Desert Door Texas Sotol. Hair Metal Mixtape #159 - Everything is over 6 minutes and they are not just power ballads. I blame Def Leppard with “Gods of War”. I’ve been wanting to put this song on a mixtape of mine but I just couldn’t find what I wanted to say so I couldn’t find the direction to go in. And then I wanted “Still of the Night” but it came in at 6:50 and Gods of War is 6:38 so it got me thinking of which other tunes are as epic but not power ballads. And the rest was born. I even counseled myself to use a 1994 Motley song and it worked. I am so proud of myself. Thanks for listening! NEWS The band McQueen Street make a surprise return with some new singles! Tiger Talk Podcast by Northeast Mississippi Community College

In episode 124 of the TigerTalk podcast presented by Northeast Mississippi Community College, host Will Kollmeyer welcomes Northeast president, Dr. Ricky G. Ford, to the podcast as Kollmeyer and Ford sit down to discuss what is happening at the college. In this week's update, Dr. Ford updates listeners about two big awards that Northeast received from the Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL) in Mississippi concerning transfer grade point average and also how many of the college's transfers receive bachelor's or other higher education degrees after completing time at Northeast. In addition to the two honors, Ford talks about how the college is distributing the CARES Act monies --  one for Workforce/Economic Development and Career and Technical Education and a second for instruction inside the classroom. Ford also talks about football season opening first for the high school ranks on this Friday (August 28) as Booneville hosts a pre-season scrimmage and then the regular season begins next Friday night at Tiger Stadium. Ford also mentions the start of the MACCC football season in October and how the college has prepared itself to complete the entire season. Ford addresses the need for people to understand what quarantine and self-isolation are and how a person can distance themselves from large parties and gatherings to help lower the COVID number.
