Martial Artist and Hollywood action star Jeff Speakman joins Brad to share his journey from the cold winters of Chicago as a springboard diver and gymnast, working with legendary martial artists Lou Angel and Ed Parker, adapting Kenpo to grappling, what it was like to work with the legendary Ed Parker on the set of The Perfect Weapon, surviving stage 4 throat cancer, and much much more... Jeff shares his beliefs on America's decline, and preparing the next generation of martial artists. If you are a martial artist, this is an exciting interview with a martial arts legend, who didn't let Hollywood seduce him, carrying on the legacy of Ed Parker. Brad also shares his journey in Kempo Jujitsu. This is a fun episode. About Jeff Speakman: Jeff Speakman is best known from his martial arts films The Perfect Weapon, Street Knight, The Expert and Land of The Free. Jeff started his athletic career very early in life. Training and competing as a gymnast during the school year and as a springboard diver in the summer consumed much of his young life. He has earned black belts in American kenpo karate and Japanese Goju-Ryu. As one of the last students of the Grand Master of Kenpo, Ed Parker, Jeff Speakman has carved out his own niche with the art, adapting Kenpo to modern fighting styles by adding grappling to the mix. As he stated "taking Kenpo to the ground was no easy task...but we did it." He calls this next level Kenpo 5.0. Jeff has been inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame, the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame and the Masters Hall of Fame with over 50 Kenpo 5.0 dojos (training centers), in over 20 countries. Jeff and his wife Kim reside in Las Vegas. Host: Brad Szollose --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/awakenednation/support

Jon continues the discussion of B-movie stars and martial artists who we often saw on the big and small screens in many fashions. Wether it was at an actual theater, videostore shelf or at 2 AM on an edgy cable TV station, we saw some serious whacky, fun and outrageous shit! Why were Casper Van Dien and Jeff Speakman not bigger stars? Why couldn't some of these guys get better scripts, budgets and even acting lessons for all the energetic kicks they unleashed on-screen? And which ones were really only good for a Mystery Science Theater/Elvira type campy laugh? Video Vagabond returns with an action-packed episode of Thursday Night Prime, with the Brandon Lee starring vehicle, "Rapid Fire" (1992)! RAPID FIRE tells the tale of Jake Lo, an art student, who witnesses a Mob killing, that sends him on the run from two warring factions of the criminal underworld! Skip Segal and I breakdown the film, with a twist...we decided to use an Alternate-Earth timeline, and figure out which films Brandon Lee might've starred in, had he not tragically died during the making of THE CROW. This segment of Video Vagabond is called THURSDAY NIGHT PRIME, an ongoing series where we will be breaking-down martial-arts action movies from the 80s/90s. Please welcome my first guest to the podcast, Andrew "Skip" Segal, my former college roommate and a walking movie-encyclopedia. The first film that we will cover on TNP, will be the Jeff Speakman starring vehicle "The Perfect Weapon" (1991). Listen as we hilariously breakdown this highly-entertaining martial-arts B-action movie that was produced by Paramount and was supposed to make Speakman a household name along the lines of Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal (spoiler, it didn't). "The Perfect Weapon" introduced the world to Kenpo Karate, a fusion of ancient Karate techniques with modern scientific principles. It also gave us one of the best (and worst) opening montage sequences of all-time! Jeff Speakman is...THE PERFECT WEAPON. Enjoy!https://www.instagram.com/dm_retro.oneshot/

The DTVC Podcast is back with our good friend Jon Cross from The After Movie Diner, Miscellaneous Plumbing Fixtures, and Cross Talk. We discuss the Jeff Speakman flick The Expert, what went wrong there, and reasons why Speakman may not have had the career he should have. At the end we have a bonus conversation where Jon and I discuss the myriad ways people can support indie projects.
Master Jeff Speakman is a 9th degree Kenpo black belt and the star of over a dozen martial arts-based movies, including the 1990 classic, The Perfect Weapon. A former private student of the founder of Kenpo, the "Father of American Karate", Ed Parker, Mr Speakman now runs the largest Kenpo organisation in the world, Kenpo 5.0, with schools across 22 countries worldwide. Each year Mr Speakman hosts the Annual Kenpo 5.0 Training Camp in Las Vegas, where Kenpo 5.0 is headquartered.Mr Speakman has a degree in Behavioural Psychology and his formidable intellect is quite apparent in this interview. I hope you enjoy the chat as we dig into life, leadership and the future of mankind ... just a few small topics!!!Mr Speakman can be reached through his website www.jeffspeakman.com
Jeff Speakman is THE PERFECT WEAPON. He also rolls up his jacket sleeves, has fantastic luscious hair, and wears jeans that are almost too tight for a martial artist. Will he defeat the Korean mafia? Of course, they don't have guns.
First dip into the forgettable Jeff Speakman's work.
Mr. Joseph Conway is a martial arts practitioner and the long-time uke of Master Ken on their youtube show, Enter the Dojo. It's not just about being on the mat or what you're doing on the mat. It's the whole thing. Waking up a martial artist, going to bed a martial artist, it's not just, okay I'm in the dojo and now I'm going to turn it on... Mr. Joseph Conway - Episode 428 His role on Master Ken's Enter the Dojo came to him by default because he happened to have a black belt in kempo. Mr. Joseph Conway's love for both humor and being an uke is the reason why his character, Todd Woodland, on Enter the Dojo complemented Master Ken. Unbeknownst to most of us, Mr. Joseph Conway got his black belt on Jeff Speakman's Kempo 5.0. In this episode, Mr. Conway talks about his journey to the martial arts, Master Ken and his character, Todd Philips. Listen to find out more! Show Notes In this episode, we mentioned Jeff Speakman and Episode 47. https://youtu.be/mSg_f3LxfDA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyXhysmMNhE
The 1980s and 90s were littered with action vehicles. Each was meant to serve as a springboard for a multitude of stars that never were. Jeff Speakman is the embodiment of that era. Thought to be a budding movie star in the making, the plans for his career quickly derailed; not before he graced us, though, with this classic of all things Kenpo Karate — The Perfect Weapon. Akin to most of the action films of this era, it’s more brawn and less brains. As a viewer, that’s great; we’re in it for Speakman laying fools out while clad in obscenely tight jeans. The plot, try as it may, is window dressing. We want slam bang fisticuffs and cheesy, but catchy, one-liners. The former is delivered in heaps. The latter—which may have been a bad sign for his staying power—is severely lacking. So sit back, grab a beer, and enjoy as I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK) and the returning Irate Lover take you for a stroll down 90s nostalgia memory lane. And be sure to check our Twitter (@HopsandBOFlops) for notes from the show—trailers, factoids, and other fun links.
As the month rolls on, Patrons are proving yet again that they have the power as Brian & Cargill fight their way through the karate Jeans greatness of The Perfect Weapon. They guys chat about karate jeans, the limited range of Jeff Speakman, and why a private elevator has more dialogue than Mariska Hargitay. Also discussed are the pros and cons of Snap, the psychosis of Zack Morris, and how Speakman was almost Speed-Man. You've got the power to download, listen, and share! GANBARUUUUUUU
In one of the most clutch moves done by DjTsu, we were geared up to do "Firestorm" but it didn't work. He brought up Jeff Speakman and the 1991 underrated action film "The Perfect Weapon" a story about a white guy who has a black belt in Kempo who saves Korea Town, a that has no Koreans in it. Enjoy.

Jeff Speakman is The Perfect Weapon. Just try him. Apparently no one did, because this was his one and only big studio movie. Tom and Joe break it down, and also discuss their personal choices for worst movie posters of the 1980's!
Move over Jeff Speakman, because Taylor Lautner uses puberty to become the perfect weapon in...ABDUCTION. Behold the heir apparent to action cinema and strap in for a slightly uncomfortable journey with us. No guest this episode because no one possessed the intestinal fortitude to take this ride.
The Perfect Weapon (1991) begins our 1991 Theme Year! Jeff Speakman was positioned as the next big (white) martial arts star. We wonder why that never happened, since this is a pretty awesome debut. HE’S GOT THE POWER. After that it’s a super-sized second half as we award our Golden Jox 2015 awards! What were […]
It's a sequel everybody! But not really, more like a side-quel. Or whatever the Scorpion King movie was. It's that. Recorded live at the NMX, then taken home and edited and sweetened until you'd never know that it was once live, it's "Fatherly Pride." Rish Outfield is digging up that barbecue sketch idea that he used in last year's episode called "Wedded Bliss." Three guys are having a conversation at a barbecue. That's what the plot is, go...Afterwards, Rish and Big talk about performing comedy live before a studio audience, parenthood/unclehood, and debate for long pointless hours just which Jeff Speakman flick is the best. Special thanks to Bryan Lincoln and Marshal Latham for lending their voices to the episode.
Plato’s Run (1997) is our random movie of the week. Busey is back and he’s brought the killing force of Jeff Speakman and the evil of Roy Scheider along. Second half we talk The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and a few other movies. Plus we attempt to catch up on listener correspondence. Enjoy!
In this episode, the brothers review The Perfect Weapon, starring Jeff Speakman.
