Mary Crafts Part 2: The book ‘UNBOUNDED - From Sorrow to Summit'

Entrepreneur Mary Crafts returns to Relentlessly Resilient to share lessons from her book “UNBOUNDED—From Sorrow to Summit.” Around the age of 50, she discovered that even though her life looked successful with family, friends, and amazing business endeavors, she lived it out of fear, not love. So, she CHOSE to start “Crafting a meaningful life,” chose to live a LOVE-based life, got healthy, got divorced, and literally climbed through adversity when she summited Kilimanjaro at age 65. Her book is an easy but impactful read, filled with outstanding advice on taking control of your life and living to your true self. As Michelle says in this episode, “A lot of people have the capacity to take this book and use it as a manual for your life. It’s that simple.” Even though we live in challenging times, we can become ‘Relentlessly Resilient’ as we lean on and learn from one another’s experiences. Hosts Jennie Taylor and Michelle Scharf are no strangers to overcoming adversity; Michelle lost her husband to cancer, while Jennie’s husband, Major Brent Taylor, was killed in the service of our country. Their stories bond them together, and now listeners can join them weekly as they visit with others enduring challenges and who teach us how they are exercising resiliency, finding value in their grief, and purpose in moving forward.  Presented by Minky Couture, makers of the most luxurious and soft blankets with a mission to share comfort and love during the special moments of life. Listen to the Relentlessly Resilient Podcast regularly on your favorite platform, at kslpodcasts.com, kslnewsradio.com, or on the KSL NewsRadio App. Join the Resilience conversation on Facebook at @RelentlesslyResilient and Instagram @RelentlesslyResilientPodcast. Nachum welcomed renowned author and storyteller Rabbi Paysach Krohn to this morning's JM in the AM to explore his latest ArtScroll release: "From Sorrow To Celebration: Inspirational Stories and Insights from the Maggid." Always remember to use promo code RADIO24 when purchasing anything at ArtScroll.com. From the ArtScroll website: The Three Weeks. The Nine Days. Tisha B'Av. Mourning, tragedy, Churban, destruction. But then...Tu B'Av. Comfort, joy, celebration; a festival like no other. As believing Jews, we know that in the darkest, most painful moments lie the seeds of joy and rebirth. Still, it takes a genius of optimism and emunah - it takes a Rabbi Paysach Krohn - to show us how to find positivity while never minimizing the pain of the Churban. In this book - this extraordinary book - he shows us how. In From Sorrow to Celebration Rabbi Krohn shares compelling divrei Torah and - of course - dozens of poignant and uplifting stories. Stories that open new vistas of Ahavas Hashem, Ahavas HaTorah, and Ahavas Yisrael. Stories showcasing the awesome power of our prayers and our tears, the great opportunities that teshuvah offers us. We will enrich our understanding of the Three Weeks, the Nine Days, Tishah B'Av and Megillas Eichah. And then... we move From Sorrow to Celebration, with fascinating sections on the Bais HaMikdash, Ahavas Yisrael, Shabbos Nachamu, Mashiach and Geulah and (mazal tov!) the joyous day of Tu B'Av. In another unique section, Rabbi Krohn shares brief biographies and riveting stories of gedolim whose yahrzeits fall in the period of the Three Weeks until Tu B'Av, including Rashi, the Arizal, and Rav Elyashiv, adding still another level of inspiration in these sorrow-filled months. From From Sorrow to Celebration is about the cleansing of our sadness. It's about the possibility of rebuilding - both the Beis HaMikdash and also ourselves. It is about the tears... and the laughter that follows those tears.

Have you ever had to journey from sorrow to joy? Have you ever walked through some really hard circumstances, and you said, “God this is not what I wanted for my life.” But then as you walked through the journey with God, you found on the other side, purpose to your pain and a joy you never had before. I am so excited for you to hear from my guest this week, Wendy Wallace. I met her through the Radiant Resilience Summit just last year and she has a phenomenal, inspiring story and I cannot wait for you to hear it. We are going to call it: One Exceptional Journey from Sorrow to Joy. You do not want to miss her powerful testimony as well as her sharing about her bible study: From Sorrow to Joy: Walking With God Through Sadness. I know you are going to learn so much from Wendy! Also, I am so excited for someone to win a copy of Wendy's Bible study: From Sorrow to Joy: Walking With God Through Sadness. All the details of the book giveaway are on my website at jodisnowdon.com or you can click this direct link: https://kingsumo.com/g/ookfva/from-sorrow-to-joy-bible-study Book Recommendation: Depth: Growing Through Heartbreak to Strength by Jodi Rosser Wendy Wallace is a wife, mom, Memaw, Christian Living and Positivity coach, Inspirational blogger, and author. She is also a quadruple amputee. She loves spending time with her family, talking to her flowers, and eating lots of ice cream.  A flesh-eating bacterial infection resulted in a coma, a 3-month hospital stay, and amputations of both hands and both feet.  What you might consider the worst thing that could've happened, actually was for her good and God's glory.  By God's wonderful grace, she is living "One Exceptional Life" where, in true form with 2 Corinthians 1:4, God comforted her in all her tribulations so that she can comfort, encourage, and lead other women in theirs.  Her mission is to help women rediscover God's joy and peace amid the trials of life by living a balanced virtuous life.  You can find her at One Exceptional Life, where she writes about overcoming challenges, spiritual growth, joy, peace, gratitude, and positivity. Text: Psalm 32   From Sinner to Forgiven (32:1-2) The blessing of forgiveness is extended to sinners who have their sins covered by the Lord. The blessing of imputation is extended to sinners who have their sins covered by the Lord. From Conviction to Confession (32:3-5) In His grace, God convicts us of our sin to lead us to our confession and His forgiveness. From Judgment to Deliverance (32:6-7) Once we belong to God, we no longer need to fear God's judgment, but find our refuge in the One who delivered us from our sins (see also Romans 8:1). From Sorrow to Joy (32:8-11) The Lord promises to intentionally instruct and counsel us despite our rebellious hearts. The way of the wicked leads to sorrow while the way of the righteous leads to confidence and joy in the Lord.

The conversation was almost over. By the time we read our text it was late at night. Jesus and the apostles must have been nearing the garden of Gethsemane. Judas had probably already betrayed him. The soldiers may have already been on their way to arrest him. We know from Matthew’s account of that night that when Jesus finally got to the garden, that he told Peter, James and John, “my soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and watch with me.” That king of sorrow doesn’t just come. It builds. It wasn’t just a sorrow that has been building throughout the night or even through that week. This was a sorrow that has been building throughout all of time. This was the sorrow that began in the garden of Eden when Adam and Even chose death over trust. It was the sorrow that built when the earth went so far in its own way that God sent a flood to begin again. This was the sorrow that was added when Israel just a few weeks after being delivered from Egypt made a golden calf and called it their God. This was the sorrow felt when Moses struck the rock rather than obeying the command, when Abraham gave Sarah away rather than trusting in the Father. It’s the sorrow that built when Saul turned from humility to arrogance. When David called for Bathsheba rather than going into battle. When Israel cycled from repentance to obedience and to idolatry. Jesus was feeling all the sorrows for all the sins because he was about to bear the weight, the wrath, the price of every sin and every sinner. That’s what Hebrews means when it says “He died once for all.” But here is what’s so amazing about God’s character. While Jesus was feeling the sorrow of all of sin, and of his own death for that sin, while he was feeling such sorrow that he himself said that it was as if the feelings themselves would kill him, he wa s focused on the sorrows of the apostles. When he was overwhelmed himself, he kept his attention on others. In this week’s sermon Pastor Abie Kulynych discusses how we go “From Sorrow to Joy.”

Tonight's SPECIAL GUEST is Angela Williams, abuse survivor, author of "From Sorrow to Sapphires" and founder of the Voice Today non profit, at www.VoiceToday.org, a movement to break the silence and the cycle of child sexual abuse. The VOICE mission is to bring awareness to the silent epidemic through awareness campaigns, educational and healing programs. She has been a child advocate for many years, trying to right the wrong done to her and millions of other adults. Ms Williams, a Georgian, says, "As a survivor of incest, suffering in silence for 14 years at the brutal hands of my stepfather, my passion has become helping others learn to break the silence barrier of child sexual abuse and to make a difference in the lives of children in the next generation." A faith based organization, the values of the Voice Today Movement include the belief that prayer is the power source against the demonic forces driving child sexual abuse, seeking to break the silence of child sexual abuse by fostering the VOICE Movement, a grass roots effort to educate adults, speak out unashamedly and provide healing support for survivors, and that will become a platform for social change. VOICE wants to change society's attitudes and actions that surround child sexual abuse, both locally and globally, by reaching as many people as possible, and seeks to shift the responsibility for preventing Child Sexual Abuse from the child to the adult. They want to empower survivors to find their voice and start the healing process.
