Last night’s State of the Union Address was, though indirectly, in many ways largely indicative of the ‘State of our Union’; irascible, beleaguered, gaslighted, schizophrenic. Despite getting sidetracked for a bit on today’s episode, below you’ll find my extensive coverage of last night’s SOTU, including a timestamped breakdown of my live observations while watching. You’re sure to find some things the MSM has obfuscated or ignored… #Links American civil religion, ceremonial deism, apotheosis American civil religion – Wikipedia The Apotheosis of Washington – Wikipedia Ceremonial deism – Wikipedia Biblical Religion and Civil Religion in America by Robert N. Claim Rebuttal Source Rebuttal ‘$18 trillion’ in investments CNN’s Daniel Dale “…the White House’s own website said the figure for “major investment announcements” during this Trump term was “$9.7 trillion,” and even that is a major exaggeration; a detailed CNN review in [Oct 2025] found [WH counting trillions in] vague investment pledges, pledges that were about “bilateral trade” or “economic exchange” rather than investment in the US and vague statements that didn’t even rise to the level of pledges.” Low gas prices (2.30, 1.99, 1.85) CNN’s Daniel Dale According to AAA: only 2 states w/ avg < $2.50/gal; GasBuddy: 4:150k (.003%) gas stations w/ gas < $2/gal Inherited record inflation CNN’s Daniel Dale Dec, 2024 Y-O-Y inflation (CPI): 2.9% Inherited stagnant economy CNN’s Daniel Dale False (see details) Passed largest tax cuts (GBBB) in American history CNN’s Tami Luhby “It ranks seventh in terms of share of GDP since 1918, according to Chris Towner, policy director for the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan watchdog group.” Biden allowed ‘11,888 murderers’ to enter US as migrants CNN’s Daniel Dale ““11,888” number is about non-citizens who entered the US not just under Biden but over the course of multiple decades, including during Trump’s own first administration.” Foreign countries are paying T47 tariffs CNN’s Daniel Dale “In an analysis released in February, officials at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York wrote, “We find that nearly 90 percent of the tariffs’ economic burden fell on U.S. firms and consumers.”…[CBO] wrote in a February report that “the net effect of tariffs is to raise U.S. consumer prices by the full portion of the cost of the tariffs borne domestically (95 percent)”…” Fraud in Minnesota CNN’s Daniel Dale “…Walz admin official said in December that they had “evidence of tens of millions of dollars in fraud to this point,” not $9[/18/19] billion…” US elections claims CNN’s Daniel Dale Disputed (see details) More Americans are working today than ever CNN’s Daniel Dale “The labor force participation rate, which measures the percentage of the population that is employed or actively looking for work, has been almost unchanged…” Ended eight wars CNN’s Daniel Dale Largely disputed (see details) Achieved no tax on Social Security CNN’s Tami Luhby Disputed, misleading (see details) Balancing the federal budget by ending fraud CNN’s Tami Luhby 2024 GAO estimate “found that [$233–521B] is lost to fraud annually. But the federal budget deficit came in at just under $1.8 trillion for the most recent fiscal year, which ended in September, according to the Treasury Department – more than triple the highest estimated fraud total.” #Contemporaneous Notes Duration: 01:47:43 (longest SOTU in history – breaking the modern record he set last year.) I sit down with Frey Chu to go deep on how to use Claude Code to build AI-coded directories, specifically how to tackle the hardest part: getting valuable data. Frey walks us through three real-world directory examples (a funeral home directory, a senior living directory, and GasBuddy), we play a game guessing their traffic and monetization, and then he does a full live walkthrough of the seven-step process he used to build a luxury restroom trailer directory in four days for under $250. I also ask him about the future of directories in a world where LLMs are changing how people search. Timestamps 00:00 – Intro 02:15 – What you'll learn 03:00 – Directory Game:Parting(Funeral Home Directory) 05:42 – Directory Game: A Place for Mom (Senior Living Directory) 08:00 – Directory Game: GasBuddy (Crowdsourced Gas Price Directory) 12:32 – The Data Moat Thesis 14:02 – Luxury Restroom Trailers: The Niche Directory Demo 15:52 – Before & After: WordPress Directory vs. Claude Code Directory 19:04 – Cost Breakdown: Built in 4 Days for Under $250 21:23 – Step 1: Scraping Raw Data with Outscraper 22:25 – Step 2: Cleaning Data with Claude Code 23:27 – Step 3: Using Crawl4AI for Automated Website Verification 28:01 – Step 4: Enriching Trailer Inventory Data 31:33 – Step 5: Scraping & Verifying Images with Claude Vision 36:33 – Step 6: Amenities, Features & Filter Data 38:31 – Step 7: Service Areas 39:15 – Niche Directory Ideas: Dementia Care, ADA Bathrooms, Tap Water Quality 43:38 – For Naysayers: Is Building a Directory Worth It in 2026? 47:51 – LLMs, AI Search & the Future of Directories Links Mentioned: Outscraper: https://startup-ideas-pod.link/outscraper Crawl4AI: https://startup-ideas-pod.link/crawl4AI Key Points Data is the moat for any successful directory — and with Claude Code plus Crawl4AI, the hardest part (data cleaning and enrichment) is now dramatically faster and cheaper. Every successful directory helps people save time, save money, or make money — and price transparency is a massive, underserved opportunity across boring niches. Frey built a fully enriched luxury restroom trailer directory in four days for under $250, a process that would have taken 2,000+ hours of manual work. Monetization depends on the niche: lead generation, vertical SaaS, agency services, ads, debit cards, affiliate, and marketplace models all work. Directories remain strong in an AI search world because users browsing a directory are in the decision-making phase, especially in high-stakes niches like health, legal, finance, and senior living. Building a directory is one of the best playgrounds to learn Claude Code, SEO, and lead generation — even if the first one is just a learning exercise. The dozen agents complained that almost immediately upon becoming director of the bureau, Patel began working to terminate all agents who had kneeled in support of the movement. The total cost could dwarf Trump's alone and stands as a humiliating rebuke of Willis's partisan prosecution. The blowback is now financial as well as legal. https://twitter.com/MarioNawfal/status/1998354564790284308?s=20 notice. 18 of them are still actively covered. September 2025. Monthly payout: over $10,000. GAO’s just…monitoring them. Because apparently nobody at HHS has. No SSN? Fine. No proof of citizenship? Whatever. No income documentation? Come on in. GAO literally wrote in their report: “[We] did not provide documentation yet received coverage.” They’re not even hiding it – they got benefits with nothing. The system just said yes. Now check the real-world damage. In 2023, 29,000 Social Security numbers somehow got used for multiple full-year coverage plans. By 2024? That jumped to 68,000. Someone’s running the same number through the machine twice, three times, however many times it takes, and the alarms aren’t going off. Then there’s the $94 million that went to dead people in 2023. Not “accounts tied to people who died recently and the paperwork hasn’t caught up” – straight up deceased recipients. Death certificates filed, funerals held, checks still clearing. But here’s the really wild part: GAO tried to track $21 billion in subsidies from 2023 back to actual Social Security numbers. Couldn’t do it. 21 billion dollars just floating out there with no clear connection to who’s supposed to be getting it. The system allows multiple enrollments per SSN “to help ensure actual SSN-holder can enroll in cases of identity theft or data entry errors.” In other words: we built in workarounds so generous that fraud looks identical to legitimate use. Now Congress is fighting over whether to extend these enhanced COVID subsidies past December 31. Cost to keep them? $30 billion annually. 24 million people enrolled, over 90% getting subsidies. Without extension, premiums spike overnight and 22 million people might lose coverage. Republicans looking at GAO’s findings saying: this is exactly why we shouldn’t pour another $30B into a system that can’t tell fake accounts from real ones. Democrats saying: you’re going to kick 22 million people off insurance because less than 1% is fraud? Both sides kinda have a point. Yeah, the fraud’s under 1% of total enrollees. But when you’re burning $30B yearly and literally cannot verify where $21B went, “less than 1%” stops sounding so minor. Senate vote coming this week. Expected to fail. Which means scramble for short-term extension, fight continues into 2026 budget battles, and absolutely nothing changes about fraud controls. Because here’s what nobody wants to say out loud: the system isn’t designed to catch fraud. It’s designed to maximize enrollment. When your mandate is “get people covered,” asking too many questions becomes the enemy. Verification slows things down. Documentation creates barriers. Better to let a few fake accounts slip through than risk denying real people who need coverage. So GAO’s 18 fictional enrollees will keep collecting their $10K monthly until someone at HHS manually shuts them down. Which requires someone at HHS to actually read GAO reports. Which requires someone at HHS to care more about fraud than enrollment numbers. Don’t hold your breath. By next year, GAO will run the same test. Find the same results. Write the same warnings. And Congress will have the same fight about whether feeding money into a system that can’t track where it goes is compassionate policy or expensive theater. Meanwhile, somewhere in America, a completely imaginary person just got their subsidized premium renewed for 2026. https://twitter.com/chad_mizelle/status/1998194850324222006?s=20  clown show. GasBuddy's Patrick De Haan expects to see gasoline prices steadily decline from now heading into the fall months. The average national gallon of gas can even slip below $3. That's all depends on geopolitical factors, especially around Russian oil tariffs and a shift in escalation on the Ukraine War, says Patrick. He later explains that crude oil's price tag hovering around the $60 mark will add downward pressure on prices at the gas pump. ======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Tips to Save on Vehicle Costs - Money Tip Tuesday

Vehicles can get expensive. The average American spends approximately $12,000 on vehicle costs annually, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2023). Are there ways to cut those costs and save a little money on expenses?    Links: Research tools like Gas Buddy as an option to save money on gas purchases* Check out Triangle's competitive auto refinance rates Check out TCU University for financial education tips and resources! Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter! Learn more about Triangle Credit Union   Transcript: Welcome to Money Tip Tuesday from the Making Money Personal podcast.   This money tip outlines a few things you can do to reduce your vehicle expenses.    With everything from gas to repairs to purchase and resale, owning a car can be expensive. Of course, the purchase price is worth noting, as well as your financing costs or interest. But what about maintenance and fuel efficiency?   If you are searching for a vehicle, this provides insight into what to consider when making a purchase. If you already own a car, you may find some of these tips helpful in saving money over time.   Tip 1: Be savvy, buy used. This can save you money right off the bat. You don't need to get an old vehicle; something 2-3 years old is fine. But compared to buying a new car, you could save yourself thousands off the price tag. A new vehicle can average around $47,000 according to Kelley Blue Book. However, due to depreciation, the same car can cost about half its original price in only a few years. The average price for a used car is around $26,000. If you buy a vehicle that's a few years old, you can save yourself a good chunk of change right off the bat and still get a good, reliable car.  Tip 2: Get regular servicing. Tire rotation, regular oil changes, and even car washes can all help extend the life of your vehicle. Although these are all considered expenses, regular maintenance can save you quite a bit of money in the future because you're less likely to incur repair costs and it helps maintain the value of your car. It also extends the life of your vehicle, keeping you from having to buy another car every 7 years. Pay attention to your vehicle, budget for regular maintenance costs, and you'll pay less overall.   Tip 3: Take control, perform repairs or maintenance yourself. If you're mechanically inclined, you may be able to do some of the work yourself. Some car servicing or repairs are easy enough to do yourself. You may not need to pay someone for servicing when you are just as likely to perform the job yourself. YouTube is an excellent resource for watching repair or service vehicles. You'll most likely be able to find a tutorial for your car and watch someone perform the repair. Just make sure you know what you're doing so you don't make a mistake that requires a professional to fix.  Tip 4: Find ways to reduce your gas expenses. You can achieve this by purchasing a fuel-efficient vehicle, such as an electric car or a hybrid. If you are not looking to buy another vehicle, consider reducing the number of miles you travel. Consider staying home a little longer if you're usually on the go. You can also use an app like GasBuddy to search for the nearest gas stations and their prices, avoiding the need to drive across town to your favorite, low-cost station.  Tip 5: Refinance your car payment. This is always a good option if you find your car payments are just too high. Shop around for low rates and try refinancing your car loan. This can save you a significant amount of money in expenses and reduce your monthly car payment. Triangle offers refinancing at competitive rates. Visit trianglecu.org to check the current rates and apply to refinance your vehicle.   What did I miss? What are some other ways you save money on your car expenses?   Let us know on social media. Share your tips and tricks. There may be someone else out there who could use the extra tips. Together, we can all save a little more.   Vehicles can get expensive. It is summer road trip season so it is time to recap some of our best road trip tips from preparing, planning, packing, and more. Plus, we share some of our favorite road trips. Episode Highlights Before you head out on a road trip, make sure your car has been serviced recently and check the tires to make sure the pressure is correct. You may also want to top off your fluids and use the bug windshield washer fluid. Bring a go-to kit with wipes, sanitizer, tissues, lip balm, moisturizer, sun screen, and eye drops. Also bring a couple of extra baggies or ziploc bags. Bring a trash bag for the front and back (or for each kid) and empty the trash at each stop. Bring a small cooler and ice pack that you can refreeze each night for left overs and snacks. Have a specific spot for your snacks that can be refilled when needed. Use a car freshener or car air purifier to help keep food smells away. You may want to consider a AAA membership and bring your card with you. For longer road trips, consider bringing a carry on bag with a duffle bag instead of a larger checked bag. Use a duffle bag to transport what you need in and out each night. It is good to have one overnight bag for toiletries and pajamas for everyone that always goes in. Bring a laundry bag that you can put your dirty clothes in each day in your car or larger suitcase. Plan an overnight stay at a place that has laundry facilities. When choosing where to stay, consider staying just off the highway where you are more likely to find a chain hotel that has free breakfast and free parking (and laundry facilities). Plus it is easy to get on and off the highway. Some of the chains like Best Western have summer promotions for multiple stays. Some apps to have are Gas Buddy, Road Trippers, and of course Google or Apple Maps. Google Maps is also good at showing you how busy attractions are at different times of the day. For road trips in less-populated areas, bring a road atlas or paper maps (you can get free maps at AAA if you are a member) Maine Coast road trip - read the full post here: https://we3travel.com/boston-to-bar-harbor-a-maine-coast-road-trip-itinerary/ Florida Keys road trip - read more here: https://yourtimetofly.com/key-west-girls-trip/ Canadian Rockies road trip - read more here: https://we3travel.com/canadian-rockies-vacation-itinerary/ West Coast road trip - read more here: https://stuffedsuitcase.com/west-coast-road-trip/ Road trip packing list: https://stuffedsuitcase.com/pack-car-road-trip/ Related Episodes West Coast road trip Southwest Grand Circle road trip Oregon Coast road trip California road trip Midwest road trip Family road trip tips
