After many calls to coaches across Western Canada to give Tyler a chance to play Junior A, he reached out to an old Bronco Trevor Posch and told him to put in a good word with Coach Darcy for him.Fast forward a couple days and Tyler packed his vehicle and made the 6-hour trek to Humboldt from Leduc. Darcy was the only coach that gave him a chance.Tyler instantly knew this team was special. A group of good hockey players and also good people thanks to Darcy and his team of coaches and staff. Being able to live with Paul and Nancy Jefferson made things that much better. A welcoming home that feels like a 2nd home to Tyler now. A few months later brought his new billet brother and ex-teammate Parker Tobin into the Jefferson home with him. A special bond in that home they had. This podcast shares the story of the spirit of the team, how the crash has affected all aspects of Tyler's life, and how it sparked a need in him to share his mental struggles and be an advocate for mental health. Now, Tyler is in his 4th and final semester of school for Television Broadcasting. Tyler doesn't know where his future will take him, but seems to have found a passion for mental health advocacy. He has recently moved to Calgary with his girlfriend Katrina and plans to continue to take things one day at a time. He's also been hard at work at advocacy, public speaking, and clothing ventures; Not Alone Co., Tyler's collective, has one ultimate goal: to help initiate those tough, meaningful conversations around something that gets far too overlooked - your mental health. At Not Alone, they aim to create a space of acceptance, support and awareness and created comfy loungewear to represent that. The team at Not Alone is devoted to ensuring that a community and culture of individuals is created in order to facilitate a space of vulnerability, courage, bravery and ultimately acceptance. This is something we want to be about you. You matter. We care about you. And we are here to remind you that you are never alone in all that you are struggling through. Tyler is 1 of 13 people who lives to tell the gruesome story of April 6, 2018. He was on the Humboldt Broncos hockey team when their bus struck a semi-truck head on. The crash stopped everyone in their tracks and formed an indescribable support system for the players and families effected by the crash. To this day we constantly hear the phrase, “Humboldt Strong” and Tyler Smith exemplifies  this by sharing his story. The Roy Green Show Podcast - After a week of sentencing hearing for Jaskarit Singh Sidhu, the families of Humboldt Broncos now begin a 7 week wait for the judge's verdict. Roy speaks with Scott Thomas, whose son Humboldt Broncos player Evan Thomas was killed in the crash.  Mr. Thomas met privately with truck driver Jaskarit Singh Sidhu last week. He shares how he felt after that experience, and what the sentencing hearing has been like for him. Western Canada does not feel it is being treated fairly.  Angus Reid conducted a national poll which we spoke about with Shachi Kurl, exec director of Angus Reid last weekend. And this past Wednesday, David Akin wrote an in-depth piece on the poll for Global News: Canadians in the West More Than Those in the East Feel That Ottawa Doesn't Treat Them Fairly. Today we get a western premier's take on this: Scott Moe, Premier of Saskatchewan, joins the conversation with Roy Green. Vivian Krause is a researcher who revealed the money trail from U.S. entities to Canadian environmentalist Non-Governmental Organizations, to keep Alberta oil from international markets and maintaining the U.S. monopoly on Canadian oil. Now, there are reports that NGO's plan to lobby Senators to nix a cross-country tour to hear Canadians views on federal environmental legislation. So who is funding these NGO's? Vivian Krause weighs in. Reports from the U.K. media say British security services are resurrecting Cold War plans to evacuate the Queen and Royal Family from London should there be a 'hard Brexit' followed by rioting in London.  British military reservists have also been placed on standby alert. Professor Alan Sked is the founder of UKIP and has been dubbed “the man, without whom, there would be no Brexit.” He offers his opinions on what has become of the movement, and on these reported preparations. And then Roy is joined by Swiss member of parliament Luzi Stamm to discuss the importance and value of referenda and what is happening in the U.K. In Switzerland several referenda are conducted annually, the results of which are constitutionally binding on the Swiss federal government. Whereas various factions in the U.K. are trying to upend the Brexit referendum decision, even though the British people voted by majority to exit the European Union. The Roy Green Show Podcast - Canada has taken the lead in refugee settlement for the first time in 72 years, according to new data compiled by a researcher at the University of Calgary. In 2018, Canada received more planned refugees than any other country. Is it fair that Canada is shouldering so much of the worldwide refugee resettlement burden? We've been hearing about them for weeks now – the Yellow Vest protesters. Who are they? We know the movement started in France in response to fuel tax hikes, but what message is behind the movement that has established itself in Canada? Roy speaks with Mark Friesen, a Yellow Vest organizer from Saskatchewan, to get an idea of what the movement in Canada is all about. Mark is also an organizer of the truck convoy that is planning to travel from Alberta to Ottawa to protest numerous policies of the Trudeau government. And then, Roy is joined by a University of Western Ontario professor who says northern countries are under pressure from the United Nations Agenda on Social Development, which includes the Compact on Migration. Professor Salim Mansur wrote a column in the American Thinker entitled ‘Justin Trudeau's Canada Embraces a World Without Borders'. Lyle and Carol Brons are the parents of the Humboldt Broncos' athletic therapist Dayna Brons, who lost her life in the horrific bus crash last April. They join Roy to weigh in on the five days of sentencing hearings for Jaskarit Singh Sidhu that are scheduled to begin tomorrow. Singh Sidhu has pleaded guilty to all criminal charges related to the deaths and injuries on the Broncos team bus, which was struck by the massive semi-truck he was driving. We often discuss the perpetrators of crime in Canada, but what about the victims? Roy is joined by a pair of guests to discuss what victims of crime face when dealing with the justice system and how it both works and doesn't work. When Joe Wamback's son Jonathan was 15 years old, he was horribly beaten by a gang in a park directly across from the family home in Newmarket, Ontario. Since then, Joe and his wife Lozanne have devoted their lives to working with and for victims of crime. In 2012, Joe walked across Canada to raise awareness of crime and victims. He's appeared before parliament and the Senate, and has organized events across Canada for crime victims. Scott Newark is a friend of the show and a frequent guest with years of experience dealing with the Canadian justice system. He's a former Alberta crown prosecutor, former executive director of the Ontario Office for Victims of Crime and former senior policy advisor to a federal Minister for Public Safety. Roy, Joe and Scott are later joined by Jessie Melo, the daughter of Canadian boxer Eddie "The Hurricane" Melo who was murdered in a contract killing by Charles Gagne. Melo's killer is currently serving a life sentence with no eligibility for parole for 12 years at the Beaver Creek Institution in Gravenhurst, Ontario. Gagne, with numerous armed robberies on his record has received a 60-day work pass with no supervision required.  Jessie Melo is furious about the work pass development, both with how secretively it's been handled and that the prosecutor in Gagne's murder trial is now Gagne's chief booster. Guests: Robert Falconer, Research associate at the School of Public Policy, University of Calgary, author of the study on refugee settlement in Canada Mark Friesen, Yellow Vest organizer and representative, Saskatchewan Professor Salim Mansur, Political Science Professor, University of Western Ontario, research focuses on international relations and comparative politics with special interest in the politics of South Asia and the Middle East Carol and Lyle Brons Joe Wamback Scott Newark Jessie Melo See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Roy Green Show Podcast Following the court ruling over the Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion, we look at the fate of the pipeline and Trudeau's handling of the situation. Our guest Richard Masson, former CEO of the Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission, says that what this means for Alberta and Canada's economy is “real sad.” The New York Times published an anonymous op-ed, claimed to be written by an appointed White House senior staffer. It offered a scathing take on U.S. President Trump and also assured that there was a resistance working inside the White House. But will any of this have any long-term effect on Trump or the Republican? And Will the New York Times be viewed differently now, for publishing this piece? 18,000 people recently marched in Paris in support of taking actions in response to climate change. California Governor Jerry Brown will hold a conference in response to Trump pulling the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Accord. But there is evidence that shows that the Global Carbon Tax would drive up food prices and push an additional 78 million people toward hunger. Dr. Bjorn Lomborg, international economist and environmentalist, discusses this. The Humboldt Broncos begin their new season next week. They are matched up against the Nipawin Hawks in Nipawin, which is where the team was headed last April 6 of this year, when their bus was struck by a truck, resulting in the deaths of 16 people. We check in with Ryan Kessler of Global News Saskatchewan, to find out how the community of Humboldt is doing. Guests: Richard Masson, Executive Fellow at the University of Calgary School of Public Policy, and former CEO of the Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission Fran Coombs, Managing Editor of Rasmussen Reports, and former senior editor with the Washington Times Dr. Bjorn Lomborg, international economist and environmentalist, Founder and Director of the Consensus Centre Think Tank in Copenhagen Ryan Kessler, Reporter with Global News Saskatchewan See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome to a special Agree or Disagree:Facebook Live Event as we reflect on the outpouring of emotion Hockey. It’s a part of the identity of Canada. We all dream of playing. We all watch. Some of the best Canadian memories and moments are on the ice.Rain, snow, or shine, families would wake up at 5:00 AM to take their kid or kids to the rink. They will stay up late. There are many of nights that there would be games on the street or on ice and we would just…play. Then some would be good enough to advance to another level. And that dream of one day playing in the NHL would continue. For players. For broadcasters. For coaches. They would travel on busses down the highways and roads of this country. Pursuing the passion that they loved. It brought smiles to faces, bonds of friendship, and lessons learned. And now, that just seems…different. This weekend was a weekend of sorrow, sadness and grief. The Humboldt Broncos were on their way to a playoff game against the Nipawin Hawks. A crash killed 15 and injured 14 others.,It’s hard to say. It was hard to write. The outpouring of grief was felt across Canada and the world. You heard just a piece of that from Connor McDavid, Glen Gulutzan, Mike Babcock and Sheldon Kennedy. There was more. Much more.Where we go from here? How do we support the victims, some obvious, others connected in many different ways. Joining me is Adele Desjardins-Lepine. BIOAdele Desjardins is strongly connected to her roots. She is a proud coal miners daughter raised by her dad at 10 months of age with the support of her aunts, uncles, grandparents and her community. She has faced many adversities in her life. Some people look for escape in self-destruction or addiction...but not Adele. She has taken the lessons learned through pivotal points in her life to become the amazing person she is today. She is dedicated to raising her 2 girls in Drumheller Canada. She is a pillar in her community, an inspiring friend and an Achievement Club Leader.Adele is a Transformational Weekend Master Trainer and speaker. She is passionate about sharing the principles taught to her through positive psychology and how we strengthen our willpower, challenge our beliefs, understand love and choose happiness to succeed. We cover a number of different topics. We hope this podcast gives some sort of comfort and peace.Thank you for listening and watching.
