John Turner is back at it again with a heated episode! In this episode he shares his trauma surrounding being a pastor's kid, with his guest Samiah Dilbert. They discuss what it's like growing up in the church and how it's shaped their outlook on life. They also give their opinions on the Kirk Franklin situation in which he cursed out his son. For news of the week, they talk about the need to stop violence against asian people and how there's a growing Black vs. Asian narrative being spun by the media. It wouldn't be Just John podcast if they didn't talk about someone who portrayed Black excellence and who they chose might surprise you. For our first studio recording of the year (all Covid-safe of course!) we're going over four modern black & white films: Malcolm & Marie, Mank, The Lighthouse & The Forty-Year-Old Version. Woo! The sophomore podcast from the latest run of the film show! Just John and Isaac on this one, we reviewed The White Tiger (and John gets too excited), chatted about Adam Curtis (pretty much ditto) and dissected how we watch films from home. So is watching David Lynch's Dune on your phone while cooking valid? If it isn't then I don't want to be valid! Should the cinema experience go back unchanged after Covid or should we BURN IT TO THE GROUND?! Well, probably somewhere in between if I'm being honest. Hope you enjoy! 0:00 - Intro & The White Tiger Review 16:17 - Adam Curtis Chat (+ mini Bitter Lake review) 30:43 - Casual Film Watching Chat + The Future of the Cinema And our call to action! Welcome to your Not-So-Dirty Thirties, Theophiloi! For as it is written, in the New Jerusalem, we will all be at the age where it's time to start thinking about getting an IRA, and realizing that we can't stay up drinking like we used to do... forever. This is one of the many strange things we learn in our set of three dubiously Johannine Apocalypses brought to us by New Testament Apocrypha Vol. 2, brought to us by translators Rick Brannan, Rebecca Draughon, Jeannie Sellick, Janet E. Spittler, Chance E. Bonar, Tony Burke, and Slavomir Čéplö. Join us as we learn about the church's many metaphorical body parts and witness a world-shattering kick from an angel. Plus: a truly wonderful etymology. Topics of Discussion: (Heavy Sigh) the weather, JesusFAQS, a joke for the olds, our Obama-Era Bodies, concerns about Benjamin Harrison's corpse, candles (to smell), blue scents, seals (the boring kind), vegetable-based signs of Armageddon, a comprehensive physical description of the Antichrist, the Regulation of John, a large rock and a quick debate about terminal velocity, the Seven-Mouthed Pit of Punishment, Lord Fallsworth, Lord Fairfax, Righteous John and Just John, candles (to eat). This week, Ed Thornton talks to the Rt Revd David Wilbourne about his biography of John Habgood, a former Archbishop of York, who died last year, aged 91. The book is called Just John: The authorized biography of John Habgood, Archbishop of York, 1983-1995 (SPCK), and is available from the Church Times Bookshop for the special price of £16. In an obituary published in the Church Times, Rupert Shortt describes Habgood as “the outstanding British Anglican leader of his generation, and perhaps the country's most distinguished churchman tout court”. He has been described by several people as “the best Archbishop of Canterbury we never had”. In a review of Just John published in the Church Times, Richard Harries writes: “David Wilbourne, who was Habgood's chaplain for four years, and whose writing is well known to readers of the Church Times, has written an informative and attractive life of his former boss, which will be essential reading for anyone who wants to understand this turbulent period better. . . “Wilbourne follows Habgood's career as a theological teacher, ecumenist, writer, and church leader, underlining his key part, for example, in liturgical revision, and especially on the ordination of women. . . “Wilbourne has given us a warm picture of an estimable human being and a deeply serious Christian.” Get the Church Times delivered for 10 weeks for just £10: www.churchtimes.co.uk/10-weeks

(We're posting this episode a week early, because next week we'll be off-line, riding the preaching circuit.) In Ask Dr. Hal radio show excerpts, Dr. Philo Drummond, Rev. Stang and St. Palmer Vreedeez (LIES) compose all-new variations on "Bob's" most beloved aphorisms. Of course, the conversation veers off into many unexpected corners too. It's all interspersed with an avalanche of collages by LeMur, The Large and Rev. Royal DeCapitater. We get music from Fishbone, The Great Groovy Neptune, and the movie TRAIL OF THE SCREAMING FOREHEAD. The show ends with a bold proposal from Rev. Just John.
NOTE: We are releasing TWO shows this week, because the world ends next week. This show is a real cross-section of SubGenius audio history from 1980 to the present, almost all of it concerned with the upcoming WORLDWIDE X-Day event (not the campout). Toward the end we describe how deceased Mormons such as Joseph Smith and Brigham Young have been turned into due-paying SubGeniuses, postmortem, by Rev. Just John. Mostly, it's "media barrage-style" cuts, hundreds of them, from things like Dr. Legume and Rev. Stang preaching at devivals, to unidentifiable but somehow classic monster movie soundbites. Most impressive of all are some clips from the Futuramas of LAST WEEK (S07-E01,02) with uncanny correspondences to both X-Day and the Canobitian research concerning the secret 1953 switch of "Earth" and "Mars." Stang preaches from that chapter of THE BOBLIOGRAPHON. Two songs each by THE AMINO ACIDS and HANK FLOYD are played through, but there are bits of many songs we can't identify now because they came from collages created by the late Prof. Chas Smith for his ESO Swamp Radio show. Near the end, Rev. Stang provides a few survival tips for those Left Behind in the coming Rupture. In other words, this show covers a LOT of temporal ground. Recorded June 24, "2012" at WCSB Cleveland.

In episode 77 of Rum Doings things return to normal. Just John, Nick, a bottle of rum and a microphone. Aaaaand relax. So we don't discuss: is yet another washed out, rainy British summer the final nail in the coffin of the global warming conspiracy. There's some familiar complaining about how rubbish our listeners are, which somehow takes us into a dangerous new territory of telling jokes. This has portent. Fortunately we're diverted by Nick's exciting throat news, and then Nick ATTACKS John over how hard John works on this podcast, because Nick is a BUMFACE. We voice some thoughts on mobile phone hacking, and then get onto grammar, which takes us to Nick's education, and the books we were taught at school. Encounters of racism in childhood lead us back to horrendous jokes, and the floodgates are open.
This week we start using recordings from Starwood 30 -- mainly Ivan Stang's "Introduction to "Bob"" sermon, and some chatter about the new X-Day/Starwood venue, Wisteria -- and music from many new CDs and other sources. Upcoming 14X-Day guest The Evolution Control Committee's new release is featured, along with new music by SODDI, Rev. Just John, Girl Talk, Slack-T and Jonathan Coulton.
Mostly improvisational religious trance spouting, live in the studio with Lonesome Cowboy Dave, Princess Wei 'R.' Doe and Rev. Ivan Stang, punctuated by collages and PSAs from LeMur, Pref and a possible "Bob" recording found by iDRMRSR. Just John background music is abused, Stang reads Unclaimed Mysteries, Wei reads part of a new Onan Canobite pamphlet, Superior Mutants. The majority of this particular episode is completely insane -- and yet it won new converts while it was first being aired. Go figure.

Just John and Len this week but don't worry they're our Star Wars experts!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/fan-critical-a-tv-and-film-podcast/donations
A much slower episode this week, but there's still some great stuff in there. We are however slightly disappointed we won't be seeing the fair that has been so talked about this season until after the mid season break. Just John and Len this week too, grab a drink and join us for our rundown of all things The Walking Dead. The second episode stays simple in it's approach but is pretty effective. Just John and Len this week to mull over this one.
