The Penn Relays have officially begun at the University of Pennsylvania—my alma mater—and once again, the historic Franklin Field is alive with the spirit of one of the oldest and most prestigious track and field events in the Americas. Hosted annually by Penn Athletics, the Relays are more than just a sporting event—they are a cultural moment, especially for the Caribbean diaspora. You simply cannot mention the Penn Relays without mentioning Jamaica in the same breath. Jamaicans have long been dominant and enthusiastic participants, from high school standouts to collegiate champions. The relays serve as a proving ground for emerging talent and a showcase of track royalty.I remember one year when I had the privilege to volunteer at the games. It was a moment I'll never forget—I met the likes of Bill Cosby, the Hon. Portia Simpson Miller (Jamaica's first woman Prime Minister), and track legends such as Asafa Powell, Usain Bolt, and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. The electric atmosphere, the sound of cheering crowds, and the buzz around potential stars from across the U.S. and Caribbean left an indelible mark on me.Yet, something feels different this year. While the 2025 Penn Relays have kicked off with their usual modest energy, there's a noticeable lack of media coverage and buzz. Surprisingly, many locals in Philadelphia I spoke to either weren't aware the Penn Relays were happening or didn't know what the event was at all. This is a stark contrast to years past, when the city would buzz with anticipation and pride.Still, the Caribbean diaspora and college track athletes from around the country are already making their way to the city, bringing with them a growing excitement that's starting to creep in. Although mainstream media has yet to fully engage, the passion of the people remains. A quick keyword search or hashtag scroll for “Penn Relays 2025” yields only a handful of results—disappointing for such a historic event. We remain hopeful that as the week unfolds, coverage will swell and the attention this event deserves will return. In these turbulent and uncertain times, we need events like the Penn Relays. They offer catharsis and community—a moment to celebrate excellence, heritage, and unity.Between the NBA playoffs and the Penn Relays, there's a lot to look forward to this week. Stay tuned—The Neoliberal Round and our YouTube channel may bring you interviews, event highlights, and the heartbeat of the city and its athletes as the games progress.Until then,Renaldo C. Jesus Said; "Father forgive them for they know not what they have done," (KJV, St. Luke 23:34). This Easter, we present a re-make of several videos we mashed together to present our Easter production. It is quite powerful and inspirational as we re-did a reflection by Rev. Renaldo McKenzie and included performances with him at Easter to present a dynamic show that will help to facilitate worship and reflection. May we remember the #sacrificeandlove #Christ demonstrated that has defined the #characterofGod; humility, sacrifice and compassion for all—especially for the poor and vulnerable that #God became low to lift them up. Is that what true leadership is?As we reflect on Easter, I mashed together various short videos to provide this dynamic Easter podcast production. As we serve the world today to solve tomorrow's challenges, making popular what was the monopoly, it is important that we provide programming that is part of the solution. As such we understand that conditioning the human conscience with content that considers inspirational matters by celebrating our faith experience may help to rescues humanity and the wonton secularism that pervades. Not that we are against liberalism and secularism, but we believe that the marriage is important to keep us from destroying ourselves. The message of the cross is powerful and may help to heal a broken society devolving into decadence and social decay. May we remember the story of Jesus and his crucifixion.I provide several performances beginning with a group performance at Old First Reformed Church in Philadelphia, "The Reason We Sing."Then the Reflections by Rev. Renaldo McKenzie on Forgiveness reading from St. Luke 23:24 of the Christian Bible. We then wrap up with three performances:Donte and Renaldo using HER music,Renaldo and Ricardo on NYC train, How Great is Our God andRenaldo and Nate sing, Falling in Love with Jesus.Subscribe for free on any streaming service and donate to us at https://anchor.fm/theneoliberal.Visit us at renaldocmckenzie.com or theneoliberal.comThe Neoliberal Round by Renaldo McKenzie, from The Neoliberal Corporation, Serving the world today to solve tomorrow's challenges, by making popular wat was the monopoly.Email us: info@theneoliberal.com, submissions@theneoliberal.com, renaldocmckenzie @gmail.com Call Us: 1-445-260-9198Donate to us: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=USSJLFU2HRVAQ
Season 10 Ep. 48: On A Quick Note: I cannot believe that the 150-year old University of the Arts in Philadelphia is closed. Here am I referring a young mentee to the college and when I checked, it's closed.Such a staple university focusing on the arts closed abruptly in June 2024 and filed bankruptcy in September 2024. The university closed because its leaders lacked the vision and the passion that would create innovative strategies to sustain the school.First of all no one knows about the school, that's why they suffered from low enrollment, and they were not profitable because they lack the Innovation to create new programs by working with the local niche communities and businesses in Northern liberties Philadelphia that were becoming the fashion and arts capital of the Eastcoast; with young professional New Yorkers moving to Old City and Northern Liberties. Now The Eagles are are dominant team and the Sixers are contemplating building a huge new stadium in Center city. The university could've taken advantage of these opportunities. Their prowess in the arts would have been ideal in helping to:1. develop the area utilizing the school's artists and professors and2. developing programs with the city and the stadium developers that serve to develop artists and designers who'd contribute to the stadium and the transformation of the city into the 21st century.Re-open the school @PhiladelphiaGovAnd return Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the US. We can't pay El Salvador 6 million dollars to hold him for us then say due to international policies we cannot interfere in El Salvador and if they want to release they should. We are paying them for God sake! Holy Week Reflection by Rev. Renaldo McKenzie:1/Isn't it ironic, duplicitous and Pharisaical that our President Mr. Donald Trump expects compliance with executive orders… yet POTUS struggles to comply with court rulings and our Constitution?2/We can arrange prisoner swaps like Kseniya Karelina from Russia…But we can't bring back Kilmar Abrego Garcia from El Salvador?3/Trump is not a Jew, but he moves like the Pharisees did in the #NewTestament.Jesus said:“Woe to you, scribes & Pharisees, hypocrites!”4/He condemned their hypocrisy, legalism, and failure to uphold justice, mercy & faithfulness. And that's exactly what we're witnessing in this “Neoliberal age”.5/These thoughts are the foundation of my upcoming book w/ Martin Oppenheimer:Neoliberal Globalization Reconsidered: Unfair Competition & the Death of Nations.By Rev. Is Separation of Powers a Facade? Or are we going back to the past where Kings, Queens and Noble men are above the laws and constitution of this country - America. Is this England, France, Russia or Chibna? No it is Not! It is a country built on Democratic values; but today those elected to continues, preserve and direct our affairs are changing the nation for their own good and in their name, not in the name of the populist and for America. To be great does not mean to dismantle democratic institutions that have been set up to preserve and protect against despots, kings and supremacist. We really did vote to go back, did we? But back to what?In this quick episode, Rev. Renaldo McKenzie shares a blog with Donte a Contributor and Co-Producer of the Show. Renaldo writes that: What is going on in America? Speaker Mike Johnson is threatening to withhold funding from District Courts for making a ruling that challenges the President. If the President disagrees with a lower court judge, he must appeal. We have a system in place that should work, unless when it works against the powerful they can withhold money. That means we have no separation of powers in actuality, if politicians can decide to withhold funding from the Judiciary. There's no way an attorney would make such irresponsible statements threatening the institution that has been constitutionally entrenched and has given him his authority. Speaker Johnson must have been threatened by Trump whose support he needs in order to keep his job as Speaker. So then there's no separation there either if the speaker and the house are "elected" by The President. Nevertheless, Johnson's statements are unconstitutional, threatens the legal institution that has given him his law license and therefore he should be disbarred. Johnson has no respect for the separation of powers and the authority of the justices and the people's court. I am Rev. Togo was part of Ghana until the colonization and occupation by Germany, France and the British which divided a people and a place for their (Europeans') benefits and interests. This episode which is in preparation or the Lecture on Caribbean Thought Semester 2, 2024 at the Jamaica Theological Seminary, explores the West African Country, Togo which provides an interesting case as to how post-independent countries were forced into accepting a ceremonial freedom and independence. The independence negotiated could and affects the future of these small newly independent states and peoples. From Jamaica to Hit, Africa and the peoples within, black, brown or formerly colonized peoples. The Togo situation resembles all states that were fighting for independence but was still under the control of their former masters. The Podcast and production continues the Lectures in Caribbean and Pan Africanism exploring Neoliberal Globalization and the concept of The Black and Brown Position in the World, which is explored in my upcoming second book, Neoliberal Globalization Reconsidered and will form part of the Lectures next semester, January 2024. We conducted an interview with a Togolese American and included an adapted and remastered documentary film by @AFRISTORYNETWORK Togo, with voice overs and narrations for the English Speaking Caribbean, American and European Markets. In today's Lecture, Rev. Renaldo Mckenzie continues exploring currents that have shaped the position of the Caribbean today stemming from Colonization, but switch gears to Postcolonialism, and the lingering effects of Colonialism. The Lecture delves into the concept of postcolonialism and discusses how Caribbean people's disdain for African Traditions such as Obeah reflects the lingering effects of colonialism. The class spent several minutes debating whether #obeah is evil as many students challenged the professor's position on African traditions and the need to have open discussions without European ethnocentrism. The class was deeply intense and the students and Professor spoke passionate about current attitudes towards African Spirituality. This Lecture and the Lecture series is offered Jamaica Theological Seminary in the Humanities Department and the Lecture is delivered by Rev. Renaldo discusses his upcoming interview on Germantown Radio 92.9, which will also be available in video on The Neoliberal Round Podcast and YouTube Channel later this week. In this short, Renaldo discusses that oligarchy is not new but has been around throughout history where the wealthy class controls the government; it is only being done publicly today with Trump and Elon Billionaires, who now control the government and the direction of the US. Renaldo highlights this concept in his new and upcoming book, Neoliberal Globalization Reconsidered, Unfair Competition, and the Death of Nations, which will be released in May 2025. Rev. Renaldo C. McKenzie continues the 2025 #caribbeanthought Lectures at Jamaica Theological Seminary @jtsintersection via the @georgetownuniversity Platform, beginning this week with #colonization as a Strategy to control. Rev. Renaldo discusses #postcolonialism as a new strategy marking the end of another kind of control strategy. The #caribbean today is faced with the threat of retaliation and instability within their region after years of stability within their geopolitical region. The discussions were electrifying and explosive as the lecture culminated in whether Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago should continue to do business with #china.Rev. #renaldomckenzie builds on the lectures from previous weeks, asking whether there is a Caribbean Philosophy, Caribbean Theology, Caribbean Epistemology that is not bastardized by European colonization and their field slaves or elites or local politicians today. The Lecture promises to be profoundly esoteric and challenge our presuppositions and assumptions. The Lectures are taught face-to-face over Zoom by Jamaica Theological Seminary, Humanities Department.Rev. It's elementary, Transwomen that are Trans Athletes should not compete in Women's sports. Renaldo McKenzie, joined by Donte T. Nelson discuss the recent move by #donaldtrump to ban transwomen from competing in women's sports and to pass actions preventing schools and government institutions from recognizing trans athlete and transgender people. Renaldo shares his article blog published in The Neoliberal Journals: The Neoliberal CorporationMar 07It's elementary, women who were once men, should not play in Women Sports. Such women still possess or have access to their masculinity that gives them an advantage over other women born as women. Therefore, it is unfair for transwomen to compete in women's sport until the technology is available to drain them of their masculine prowess and that can perform checks when they fail to take their hormone meds when they are competing in events to get temporary advantage. If anything transgender women should create their own sporting category to evade any issue from performing in women's sport and to satisfy their need to compete in sports. If the transgender women promote diversity, equity and inclusion, they should see how their participation in women's sport is hypocritical to that cause. Moreover, the attack on Gavin Newsom is misplaced and unfortunate, because he sides with what seems fair which goes against your wants not your needs and principles. If anything Newsome's position coincides with diversity, equity and inclusion, because DEI is about and facilitates fairness and transgender women in women's sport is unfair and goes against DEI and the ideals of the LGBTQIA community. The solution is simple, create an opportunity for transgender women to play in sports where they have their own category or sporting events and they compete against each other. Now what's wrong with that. Why not come up with something we all can agree on instead of forcing the issue?(https://theneoliberal.com/its-elementary-transgender-women-should-not-play-in-womens-sport/The show begins with a news excerpt of the recent actions by the Trump administration to stymie LGBTQIA super trans women in sports and Trump commenting on his actions.Renaldo and Donte then discuss the topic with background music and interludes.Renaldo McKenzie is the Creator and Host of the Neoliberal Round Podcast, Author of Neoliberalism, Globalization, Income Inequality, Poverty and Resistance and Professor at Jamaica Theological Seminary, Doctoral Cand. at Georgetown University. In “Hear, Apply, Do,” Dominic Renaldo encourages students and staff to move from passive belief to intentional action. The message challenges listeners not just to absorb God's Word, but to let it reshape their choices, habits, and daily lives. With thoughtful clarity, Dominic reminds us that real transformation happens when faith is lived out—not just heard. As James 1:22 urges, we are called to be doers of the Word, letting obedience lead the way—because it's in the doing that faith becomes real.
Rev. Renaldo McKenzie continues with the Caribbean Thought Lectures at The Jamaica Theological Seminary, concluding the discussions on The Afrocentric Paradigm and Centering Caribbean Studies and Caribbean Thought within a paradigm that begins with a position of victory rather than a position of victory. The Caribbean Reader asserts that the Caribbean is an invention.... But this is defeatist and based on a position of oppression than victory. Yet one may say this binary troupe is based on a philosophy of idealism than realism. Nevertheless, Renaldo explore the importance of a Caribbean history that must demystify history through critical reflections. The Lecture today culminates the conversations on Afrocentric, Eurocentric and conceptualizing Caribbean Thought. The course is accredited by The University Council of Jamaica and is delivered within the Department of Humanities. The Lecture is delivered by Rev. Renaldo Mckenzie, Author of "Neoliberalism, Globalization, Income Inequality, Poverty and Resistance," President of The Neoliberal Corporation, Creator and Host of The Neoliberal Round Podcast, Graduated from University of Penn holding a MA and a MPHIL and currently at Georgetown University in the Doctor of Liberal Studies Program. Is the Department of Government Efficiency a strategy to reinvent white supremacy and deny the American dream to black men and women? On this episode of the The Neoliberal Round Podcast Renaldo McKenzie, Author of Neoliberalism, Creator and Host of The Neoliberal Round shares his short blog responding to this question. Elon Musk finds it noteworthy that nearly 160,000 federal civil service workers are now millionaires. This is reported by Amuse. Shouldn't we be celebrating that under President Joe Biden, many federal workers—who are American citizens—have achieved the American Dream? Why is this a problem for Musk, Donald Trump, and their supporters? Is the goal to strip these individuals of their wealth simply because they worked for the government? It's worth noting that Musk himself has grown even richer under Biden's administration. The real issue seems to be that Black people have also attained wealth. For decades, federal employment has been one of the few reliable paths to economic stability and success for Black Americans. Now, there appears to be a deliberate effort to dismantle this pathway. The recent push to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives under the guise of “efficiency” seems less about improving government operations. It seems more about rolling back progress. By targeting DEI hires, the goal appears to be a return to an America where wealth and power are concentrated among white men.The firing of the only woman general and the second Black general in the name of “efficiency” raises serious concerns. Is this truly about performance, or is it a strategic move to reinforce systemic inequalities? If these trends continue, they will not only harm Black Americans but also women, people of color, and anyone who does not fit the narrow mold of privilege. This is not just about economics—it is about the very fabric of the American Dream.Submitted by Rev. Renaldo C. McKenzie, Author of Neoliberalism, Globalization, Income Inequality, Poverty and Resistance, available at The Neoliberal Store https://store.theneoliberal.com or via Amazon and Barnes and Noble.Renaldo also discusses a recent poll by Stephen A Smith asking if the Eagles should go to the White House. #renaldomckenzie: Last night, I watched #captainamerica: Brave New World, in 3D. I have mixed feelings about it. As a superhero action movie, I would rate it a 5/10—it leaned far more into drama than action, and when action sequences did appear, they often felt contrived, almost as if I were watching a simulation rather than an organic, high-stakes battle. The lack of thrilling, immersive action sequences left a lot to be desired, especially for those expecting the high-energy spectacle characteristic of Marvel films. As a drama, I would rate the movie 7/10... "We gonna have to start looking into Judges..." That's according to Donald Trump at a Press Conference at the White House Yesterday 2.11.2025, defending #doge and dispelling critiques against Musk and DOGE. In This episode of The Neoliberal Round, we share excerpts of #donaldtrump press briefing on Tuesday at the White House. With him was #elonmusk and X, and the press pressing Trump and Musk about DOGE. The media asked about the negative impact of downsizing the federal government to claims of Musk's conflict of interest and the Trump's declaring we may have to look into the judges too as they try to block many of his executive orders and plans to reform the government. Trump and Musk defended the DOGE and Trump tried to dispel any concerns about Musk's position and modus operandi. Musk stated that the US has become a bureaucracy and not a democracy. But who determines this? Yet government technocrats have helped to derail even the Caribbean. The episode included a commentary by Renaldo flanked by an in-studio team. Renaldo and a guess then wrap up the show discussing the article: "The One-Sided Reality of Workplace Loyalty", available in #theneoliberalpost at https://renaldocmckenzie.com.Following the move to terminate federal workers so quickly and without apology and remorse Renaldo wrote in a blog: Employers across industries demand loyalty from their employees, yet they operate under “at-will” policies or impose ultimatums that undermine job security. Loyalty should be a two-way street, but in practice, it is often one-sided—marked by duplicity and hypocrisy....https://renaldocmckenzie.com/2025/02/the-one-sided-reality-of-workplace-loyalty/This Podcast is a production of The Neoliberal Corporation by Renaldo McKenzie at https://theneoliberal.com or https://renaldocmckenzie.com.Visit our store at https://store.theneoliberal.com.Subscribe on any stream. In today's Lecture, Rev. Renaldo McKenzie continues to conceptualize and contextualize the course by exploring a working definition of the Caribbean. Rev. Renaldo explains the importance of the assignment to read Ama Mazama's Afrocentric Paradigm as we delve into a critical study of the Caribbean. Rev. McKenzie presented a historical overview of the Caribbean and indicated that the Caribbean is an Invention, yet an invention beginning where it depends on how we approach Caribbean history; a paradigm may help begin with Kamit, a place of victory and not at colonialism or enslavement. The students also share their understanding of the paradigm as it applies to the studies. Rev. McKenzie also discusses the China-Jamaica relationship and what it means for the Jamaica-US relationships. Several guest joins me to discuss the D.C. Plane Crash and Trump speech in reaction to the crash accusing DEI Host, Renaldo discusses the news of the crash on the day of the crash with Maurice Smith. Then he switches gears and shares an article published in The Neoliberal Post entitled: Air Traffic Control Failures: The Preventable Helicopter Crash Near Reagan National where he says: The recent collision between a helicopter and an American Airlines plane near Reagan National Airport raises urgent questions about air traffic control's (ATC) role in preventing such disasters. With millions invested in cutting-edge radar and communication systems, why did ATC fail to steer the helicopter away from restricted airspace? Why wasn't the standard separation between aircraft maintained? The Failure of Air Traffic ControlAt what point did air traffic controllers notice the helicopter's proximity to the commercial airliner? Reports suggest they only became fully aware of the danger seconds before impact. This is deeply troubling. Shouldn't ATC have been tracking both aircraft movements with enough time to issue a clear warning? We need to know what instructions, if any, were given. Did ATC inform the helicopter that it was approaching active flight paths? When the pilot acknowledged seeing the plane, did controllers issue urgent corrective instructions—such as turning 20 degrees away? In conditions of poor visibility, was ATC proactive in guiding the helicopter to safety? Was This a Preventable Tragedy? This crash didn't happen due to mechanical failure. It occurred within the air traffic control zone, under the supposed supervision of trained professionals. The public deserves transparency: What exactly was happening inside the ATC tower at the time? Was there a miscommunication or a delay in response? Were controllers distracted, overwhelmed, or simply negligent? The aviation industry must address these concerns. More oversight is needed, including cameras inside air traffic control centers to ensure proper protocols are followed. The Erosion of Passenger Confidence... Today we discuss Trump's Executive Orders, particularly, the freeze on government assistance and immigration reform. This was a live in studio show which have some studio issues but it should be clear. Renaldo the creator and host is joined by Donte Nelson and Ricardo McKenzie Contributors and co-producers who are largely in the background or on phone.Renaldo also presents a recent article he published in The Neoliberal Journals entitled: In the article he said: Immigration reform continues to be a polarizing issue, and the debate surrounding birthright citizenship is no exception. There are individuals who exploit the 14th Amendment, coming to the United States with the sole intention of giving birth so their children can claim U.S. citizenship. While this practice is not a conspiracy, it is a documented reality that has far-reaching implications, including placing unnecessary strain on the foster care system when some of these parents leave, abandoning their U.S.-born children. This essay by Renaldo McKenzie is a revised version of an originally Submitted paper to Prof. Ori Soltes at Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies on Date: October 25, 2021 as part of a final essay presentation in the Doctor of Liberal Studies Foundations Program. It was published in The Neoliberal Post by The Neoliberal in https://renaldocmckenzie.com in June 2023. The Essay link: https://renaldocmckenzie.com/2023/06/plato/ Abstract: This essay is a reflection on Plato's Phaedo, particularly regarding life, death, and the afterlife. In the Phaedo, one see's Socrates in Plato's eyes, Plato being a student of Socrates who seems infatuated with Socrates. The reflections here raise questions about why people wouldn't choose to end their lives if death brings glory, godliness, and beauty, and suggests that the gods created a system to prevent this through philosophical preparation. The passage also mentions a connection between Christian theology, particularly Calvinist and Armenians views of salvation, and the Socratic-Platonic philosophical foundation. Moreover, what was missing initially when we did this essay was the African influence from the time of Kamit. In this episode, we commented on the influence of Kamit on Plato and Socrates....
