We had the pleasure of interviewing Zach Hood. over Zoom video!Rising pop star, Zach Hood recently released his single, "how to change a tire”.This single is like no other for Zach, it shares a vulnerable side in his songwriting. He shares his story on “how to change a tire” that “When I was 8 years old my dad left. It was my first heartbreak. When you're a kid and your parents divorce, it almost seems fake. It's all you're used too. As I grew up, I learned a lot of things. I learned how to treat women, and fend for myself without a dad in my corner. It's the hardest thing I've had to overcome. I learned a lot of things from the divorce, but I still miss the simple things that I didn't learn from my dad. The main reason I wrote this song is because of my brother. He told me a story about a year back and he said 'I was in Mobile, Alabama when my tire popped. I didn't know what to do cause I couldn't change it.' He sat there for about 30 minutes until someone pulled up behind him. It was our dad. Out of everyone in the city, it was him… The odds of that are insane and it broke my heart. With all of that being said, I've learned a lot from life, but I still can't change a tire.”About Zach Hood:Born and raised in Daphne, Alabama, Hood went from tirelessly posting content on social media to signing a record deal with Arista, landing representation from William Morris Endeavor, and making his debut festival performance at Hangout Fest in his hometown of Alabama in May 2022, the only Alabama native on the bill. In addition, Hood released his debut EP BLOSSOM, which included previous hit singles: “when she was mine” “never knew a heart could break itself,” and “lonely isn't the word for this. Variance noted that “BLOSSOM offers a glimpse of a future star.” Hood now resides in Los Angeles and has about two million monthly listeners on Spotify, with well over 300 million streams across platforms.“I'm just a kid from Alabama who stayed true to himself,” says Hood. “I never let anyone get in my way, I persevered, and I stayed on my path. I just absolutely had to make music.”We want to hear from you! "Some folks thought The Wans were dead in the water. I like to think we were in hibernation,” says lead singer Simon Kerr of the Nashville based rock band, The Wans. Described as sounding “like The Stooges having a baby with Stone Temple Pilots” by Classic Rock Magazine, the group are welcoming their highly-anticipated fourth LP Magical Touch, which includes 11 songs that showcase a refreshing new approach that is sure to perk up your ears. Magical Touch will be released on July 26, 2023, which is exactly 11 years to the date of their first release. The Wans' new eleven-song LP, Magical Touch, was co-produced, recorded and mixed by Michael Fahey at Starbird Sound in Nashville using vintage recording equipment and recorded live with minimal overdubs. With two new additions to the band, Akshay Narang and Noah Denney, it was sure to add to the expansion of the sonic qualities. Noah Denney, formerly of Tyler Bryant and The Shakedown and who originally played bass in The Wans, now sits behind the drums. “The new sound is so exciting for me. We've known Akshay for over a decade and bonded over everything from Nine Inch Nails to Depeche Mode so it was only natural to ask him to play some synth and guitar with the band.”, says Kerr. The hard-touring Wans have been on the rise for a while now, playing major festivals like Austin City Limits, Voodoo Fest, Forecastle and Hangout Fest, and sharing bills with Pearl Jam, Beck, and Queens of the Stone Age. They recorded their 2014 album He Said She Said, with Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb (Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, Rival Sons), the acclaimed record landed them press at USA Today, NME, Consequence of Sound, The AV Club, and more. Not only that, the band's music has been featured everywhere from major motion picture Point Break and TV shows like Nashville, Longmire, and Necessary Roughness to a powerhouse commercial for BMW'S 4 Series Gran Coupe, which was soundtracked by the band's muscular riff rocker "Black Pony."“This record feels like my novella, a journey similar to Steinbecks ‘East of Eden'. It took 4 years to write and a week to record.” says Kerr. There's no doubt that The Wans wore their influences proudly on their sleeves, like Queens of the Stone Age and Nirvana, but this record feels more precise and like nothing we've heard before from the band. There are certainly hints of 80's and 90's Brit-Pop influences, but the songwriting has become more focused and that's not an overthought.” Kerr continues, “My dad, Tony Kerr, has been my main songwriting partner since I was 16. Some Father-Son's bond over fishing, but we bond over writing songs. It's become effortless when we write together.”Bassist Thomas Bragg states, “Simon and I have been so excited with what's going on in the Irish/British music scene in the last few years. Bands like Idles and Fontaines D.C have made some of the best records of the last decade and I think that definitely had an effect on our music and this record.”The Wans' have always shared a brotherhood and love for making rock n' roll, which is much needed in today's overall climate and music scene. Lyrically, this record purposefully radiates self-awareness, love, and togetherness. “The Wans' are everything to me. When it comes to the song's they're all we have.” says Kerr. The great Joe Strummer once said, “People have got to stop pretending they're not in the world. It's time to take that humanity back into the center of the ring and follow that for a time. Think on that. Without people you're nothing.”Host - Trey MitchellIG - treymitchellphotography   IG - feeding_the_senses_unsensoredFB - facebook.com/profile.php?id=100074368084848

We had the pleasure of interviewing Boy Named Banjo over Zoom video!Boy Named Banjo has announced their major label debut album Dusk, due out September 29 via Mercury Records Nashville. On Dusk, the Nashville-native group explores the full emotional spectrum of the rich, eclectic sound they've honed over the last decade. Along with the announcement, the band also shares their wistful new single “Lonely In This Town."Produced by longtime collaborator Oscar Charles (Caroline Spence, Charlie Worsham), Dusk is an electrifying dose of lightning in a bottle over its nine tracks, running a gamut of late-night, fall-in-love party anthems and stripped-down meditations. Boy Named Banjo's songwriting is as incisive as ever, artfully grappling with lust and longing, hope and heartbreak. Sonically, the band's performances on the record are nothing short of exhilarating, blurring the lines between Music Row and Laurel Canyon with lush harmonies and bold cinematic arrangements. The end result is a masterfully crafted, larger-than-life major label debut from a group that continues to grow by leaps and bounds with every release.Widely beloved by loyal fans nationwide for their high-octane live shows, Boy Named Banjo will kick off their coast-to-coast Dusk Til Dawn Tour next month on September 14 in Atlanta – tickets can be found here and a full list of dates can be found below. Audiences will be treated to performances from their extensive catalog and new music from Dusk, in addition to their recent uplifting anthem “What Keeps Me Going” which earned praise from CMT, Holler, Taste of Country, Whiskey Riff and more. 2023 has already shaped up to be another banner year for the band following their Grand Ole Opry debut, a momentous milestone that was documented at People.Expertly melding an array of musical influences, the five-piece band is a fusion of contemporary country, Americana and folk-rock stacked on a foundation of bluegrass. Their self-released 2012 debut The Tanglewood Sessions helped earn the band a spot at Bonnaroo, while their 2014 follow-up, Long Story Short, led to festival slots everywhere from Hangout Fest to Dierks Bentley's Seven Peaks. After signing with Mercury Records Nashville in 2020, the following year saw the release of their genre-defying EP Circles, which landed them a performance at the historic Ryman Auditorium alongside dates supporting the likes of Kip Moore, Hank Williams, Jr., Old Crow Medicine Show, and The Cadillac Three. In 2022, Boy Named Banjo made their CMA Fest debut playing at the Ascend Amphitheatre Nighttime Concert as well as a sold-out hometown show at Nashville's Brooklyn Bowl. Formed in their teens, Boy Named Banjo includes Barton Davies (banjo), Ford Garrard (bass/standing bass), Sam McCullough (drums) Willard Logan (mandolin, acoustic/electric guitar) and William Reames (acoustic guitar/harmonica).We want to hear from you! Inner Archeology with Sarah Turner & Emily Pennystone

Psychedelic drugs: a dangerous thing to avoid at all cost or a life-altering resource? In this episode of Inner Archeology, Sarah and Emily talk about psychedelic drugs, share their experiences with them and go over how they both went on an exploration journey with mushrooms. Key Points In Episode: This episode is part 1 of Emily's and Sarah's conversation about the benefits of psychedelic drugs. Psychedelics were massively vilified by our parents' generation but they now seem more open to the idea that they could be acceptable. Sarah's mom even jokes about going on ayahuasca retreats! LOL Emily had her first experience with Silybin in her 30s – she hadn't done anything prior to that. She did a massive mushroom trip that ended up being life-altering, in a really good way. When the time is right, Sarah would like to be able to have conversations about drugs with her kids because that's something that wasn't really talked about before. What about you, would you want to leave your children to figure things out on their own or would you open up to them about them? The world is made of many things, including drugs, alcohol, and sex, so why not talk about them? Emily topped the mushrooms up with a small dose of ecstasy, which led to all sorts of good visuals and her feeling very connected to #MotherEarth. Everything – the sky, ground, etc. – felt very alive and communicative. Mushrooms feel very feminine to Emily, whereas marijuana feels very masculine, energy-wise. Do you agree? Did you know that psychedelic drugs tend to highlight end-of-life stuff? There have been studies showing that. Hearing mushroom stories always makes Sarah giggle because they are so similar even when it's different people sharing their experiences. #MushroomThoughts During her mushroom trip, Emily felt as if she was embodying the mother of the universe – feeling all of the joy, sorrow, and loss of a mother that had ever existed. There was a freaky moment where Emily felt that each of her friends was her child and they were pulling parts of her body..! Emily realized that what she was experiencing was the epitome of her potential as a mother, making the greatest sacrifice she could make by giving her body to her children to sustain them. She felt so in alignment and as if she was an eternal floating memory. Emily walked away from that experience feeling really connected to the idea that being a mother was something inherent to her whether or not her mother was still on planet Earth. She also felt as if she faced her own death, and it wasn't scary at all. Though it took her some time to process the whole experience. Sarah has done acid once (#NotHerThing) and mushrooms 4-5 times. Only one mushroom experience was positive while the others weren't negative but more controlled and in a party setting. She once snapped and wondered whether she was going to lose her mind… and also learned that you shouldn't look at yourself in the mirror when tripping (oh, and avoid public bathrooms too!) and that she'd rather be immersed in nature. Her first experience doing mushrooms was at Hangout Fest where she swam in the ocean, while her second was in Bali with someone who really knew what they were doing and with a beach and stars as the setting. Sarah's mushroom trip in Bali was a mile marker that helped her realize that her relationship with her boyfriend at the time needed to come to an end and she felt the universe putting its hands on her cheeks and saying ‘You're doing great, you're trying so hard and doing a great job!'. She was immediately released from that relationship, had a massive empathetic growth toward people in her family, her anxiety levels plummeted, and she felt as if the Milky Way was fire, all while listening to some great music. Sarah feels that, in a really weird way, her Bali trip set her up to have a baby. It has been one of the top 3 most important experiences that ever happened in her life. If you're thinking of going on a psychedelic trip, keep in mind that the people who are around you, the intentions you set, and your surroundings can be the difference between a truly spiritual and revolutionary experience and something uncomfortable.   Links Mentioned in Today's Episode: Inner Archeology Email Sarah Turner on Instagram Emily Pennystone on Instagram @Inner.Archeology on Instagram InnerArcheology.com InnerArcheology.tv (video version) patreon.com/InnerArcheology Inner Archeology on YouTube Hangout Music Fest

In late 2019, Surf Mesa (Powell Aguirre) released "ily (i love you baby)," an interpolation of Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," sung by Emilee. The song spread quickly across TikTok, and by early 2020, it was a viral hit. The track landed on charts around the world, including the Billboard Hot 100. But Surf Mesa doesn't want to make sounds for TikTok. He has plans for a long career as a solo artist, DJ, and producer. In the two years since "ily" blew up, the Seattle native has diversified his sound and collaborated with artists including Madison Beer and Gus Dapperton. His latest single "Marching Band," features Nitti Gritti. Fresh off his appearance at Hangout Fest (and meeting some adorable shelter puppies), Surf Mesa talks to Jordan Edwards and Demi Ramos about festival season, building a career, and the music he can't wait to release.

After the pandemic threw off touring plans for a few years, many big indie bands are making a 2022 comeback with double albums. Big Thief just delivered their 20-track LP and Kurt Vile recently announced a 90-minute magnum opus. But is Beach House's latest project Once Twice Melody effective as a double album? On this week's Indiecast, Steven Hyden and Ian Cohen talk Beach House's new album (40:57); reminisce on their most vivid festival memories (12:05); and decide it's not too early to argue about The 1975 (6:15).Along with diving into Beach House's Once Twice Melody, Indiecast walks listeners through recently announced weekend-long festival lineups, which thankfully still exist two years into the pandemic. Hangout Fest 2022 hit the mark with Tame Impala, Megan Thee Stallion, Jack Harlow, and Phoebe Bridgers. Beale Street Music Festival took a more eclectic approach by booking a mix bag of performers like Foo Fighters, Lil Wayne, Smashing Pumpkins, Three 6 Mafia, DaBaby, and Modest Mouse (20:30).In this week's Recommendation Corner (52:44), Ian shouts out Pittsburgh band String Machine, whose album Hallelujah Hell Yeah is set to release next week. Steven hypes up Philly four-piece Caracara, an emo band with '90s alt-rock influences who are opening for String Machine on tour later this year.New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. On the eve of the announcement of the class of 2021, our boys weigh in on the nominees, the process, the snubs, and pick the five artists that they each think should be in. Also, Sherman disses Bon Jovi and Joan Jett's inclusion, Ski argues for a big Hall and yet thinks the Foo Fighters shouldn't be first ballot! Sherman tells his Hangout Fest story, and also talks up his favorite salesperson of all time. Ski also takes a controversial position on Rage Against the Machine...so much goodness in this episode. We had the opportunity to interview Tim Wu aka Elephante at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego! Hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Tim Wu began his musical career as a classically-trained pianist and singer-songwriter, playing in bands in high school and college. Graduating from Harvard University, soon after taking his first desk job Wu realized that the corporate lifestyle was not for him, as he spent every waking hour producing music to keep himself sane. Finally embracing the ‘Elephant in the room’ that was his desire to break free from the monotonous 9-5 routine, Wu set his sights on the dance music sphere and Elephante was born -quite literally giving up his day job in order to hone his craft and make his mark as one of the most innovative dance music producers around today. In his short career Elephante has already amassed hundreds of millions of streams across his two independent EP's, I Am The Elephante (2016) and Glass Mansion (2018), and received support from the likes of Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, and Rolling Stone. He has appeared at major festivals including EDC Las Vegas, Electric Zoo and Hangout Fest, while also fulfilling his duties as a resident DJ in Las Vegas. He has sold out shows at historic venues such as Irving Plaza and The Regency Ballroom, and will be continuing to grow his hard-ticket footprint in Fall 2019.
