Talking points: relationships, evolutionary psychology, cultureYou know it, I know it, and Michael Sartain knows it: there are a LOT of men out there facing extreme difficulty. I wanted to pick Michael's brain on how to help men understand why this is, but from the perspective of evolutionary psychology, and the boots-on-ground experience of a fellow coach. I appreciate Michael's ability to follow (and focus) the data without getting lost in reactionary antics. Listen in. (00:00:00) - How Michael works with men(00:13:13) - What makes evolutionary psychology such a charged subject?(00:25:40) - Why risk is important for men(00:31:36) - Strategies to boost your risk tolerance(00:39:02) - The difficultly of modern male relationships, and staying neutral(00:48:42) - Does the unwillingness to take risk can impact relationships?(00:53:23) - On status, Bonnie Blue, and what most don't get about the “bottom third” of menMichael Sartain's journey from a studious kid in Dallas, TX, to a leading expert in high-status networking and masculine self-improvement is nothing short of transformative. He grew up in contrasting environments; a comfortable family life, but a high school marked by gangs and poverty. Michael found refuge in academia, eventually earning a BBA from UT-Austin while nurturing a passion for diverse subjects like physics and psychology. The events of September 11, 2001, ignited his patriotic spirit, propelling him into the US Air Force as a KC135 navigator, rising to the rank of captain. It was here he honed leadership skills and experienced the profound impact of true accountability and integrity. In 2019, he founded Men Of Action, a coaching community that has transformed the lives of over 2,000 men. Through his podcasts and public appearances, Michael continues to inspire, emphasizing leadership, social dynamics, and personal growth.Connect with Michael:-Website: https://www.moamentoring.com/-Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/michaelsartain/-YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/MichaelSartain-Twitter: https://x.com/michaelsartain

Jane (Ballard) Dyer, Boomer, joins us to talk about fearlessness in the face of sexism.   Jane is a retired Air Force pilot and found her determination and grit to graduate from her training school even though her class voted to make sure no woman would graduate from her class. She broke the team goal with style and grace. Whoa!! Her story is amazing and will leave you much inspired. It is featured in the book, Fearless Female Leaders, written by Kathy McAfee and Rosemary Paetow which we featured in Ep. 182.   Topics covered in the Episode: Explicit sexism Taking the time to find confidence over nervousness Self-inflicted stress Dads' unconditional support Women empowering other women Importance of voting Selecting people to be on our team   Here are three takeaways from the episode:   1.    We will face the “naysayers” in life. It may take us time to dig deep to find that part of us where fearlessness is born. 2.    Jane's success during these 1980s led the way for so many more future female pilots. 3.   We can all lack confidence at times but we can remind ourselves, like Jane did, that we can do things even when we're afraid because we can breathe in the support of those who believe we can. More About Jane:   Jane Dyer retired from flying in 2017 as a Boeing 777 Captain.  She amassed over 10,000 accident-free hours at FedEx.  Prior to the B777, she was the Captain of the Airbus 300 and Boeing 727. Her flying career began in the USAF where she flew the KC135, an air-refueling aircraft, and instructed in the T-37, a primary trainer for the Air Force.    While in the Air Force, she met and married her husband, John Dyer. John also retired from the US Air Force as a pilot, serving two tours in Vietnam.  He is a highly decorated pilot, including the Purple Heart.    They have four children, three grandchildren and a great grandson.    Jane has always been active in her community as a youth sports coach, church volunteer, and Boy Scout merit badge counselor.   How to reach Jane:    janedyersc@gmail.com   How to reach Yo Canny:    Our website: www.girltaketheleadpod.com  You can send a message or voicemail there.

The Boeing KC-135, nicknamed Stratotanker is an aerial refueling aircraft that has been in continuous service with the USAF for over 60 years with over 800 examples of the C-135 series built.  The first jet powered refueling tanker for the Air Force, the KC135 was conceived to refuel long range strategic bombers at the height of the cold war, however conflicts such as Vietnam and Desert Storm solidified the stratotankers use as a range extender for tactical aircraft and has since become an indispensable asset for the United States and its allies.  The KC 135 has some interesting nicknames and facts which may surprise you, including how it launched the airliner revolution.  If you enjoy this episode, subscribe to this podcast, you can find links to most podcast streaming services here:PilotPhotog Podcast (buzzsprout.com)You can check out my YouTube channel for many videos on fighter planes here:https://youtube.com/c/PilotPhotogAnd finally, you can follow me on Twitter here:https://twitter.com/pilotphotogSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/PilotPhotog)

The United States was under attack. While driving into work that day I was doing "Taker Math" in my head, the number of sorties and amount of gas it would take to keep all the fighters and Command and Control planes airborne to maintain a NO FLY ZONE over America, and these numbers will astound you! Talking with a very good friend of mine this past weekend he told me what a fighter pilot is probably thinking when tasked to shoot down an airliner over the U.S. because on 9/11 there were no rules of engagement to do this. How do you stop a jetliner filled with American citizens from becoming a cruise missile that might be flown by one of your airline buddies? On this episode of the Lessons from the Cockpit show... Many aviators have flown into bad situations or worse killed because they didn't listen to the voice in their heads. The military has a term for this voice: GUT CHECK. Malcomb Gladwell has written an entire book about this gut check phenomenon. Recently I had a discussion with a close friend and both of our professions, he an EMT in Houston and myself a military pilot, realized we shared similar attributes in working problems. One attribute of gut checks causes our brains to slow down during a crisis yet have total situational awareness of what's happening around us, the problem, and its solution. This attribute often leads to simple solutions to very complex problems never tried before but they work! As aviators, we really do use our five senses while flying. Our five senses feed problem-solving capacity and intuition. On a flight out of Hawaii, I literally "masked" one of my five senses which would have told me what was really wrong with the plane. The group, a mix of United States Air Force personnel and their families are here to watch a practice demonstration for the Fairchild Air Force Base Airshow, scheduled to take place the following day.   Fresh in the minds of those present is a recent disturbing incident that has taken place at the airbase. An ex airforce serviceman had entered the hospital on the base and shot and killed four people. Two of those people were doctors who had found the gunman unfit to continue military duty. The gunman was only stopped when he was shot and killed by security. The Wing commander has taken the decision to continue with the airshow and the practice, believing it is important the public see the airbase functioning as normal. Although the demonstration was scheduled to take place in the morning The display has been delayed from the morning due to the secretary of state visiting the airbase as a consequence of the hospital shooting. Written in both English and Spanish (subtitled Buenas Noches Capitán Mamá), this book was conceived by a Latina military veteran who served as an officer and aviator in the U.S. Air Force. Inspired by a conversation between the author and her four year-old son when he saw her in her flight suit, the picture book is beautifully illustrated by Ms. Linda Lens whose father Alberto served in the United States Air Force. The book went to print with nearly two dozen endorsements from the educational, library, military and Latino communities. www.captainmama.com www.northwestprime.com
