We want Jesus, but we don't always want the cross. The cross represents the moments of suffering in our lives that help refine our journey and grow us in the faith. We will look at how suffering can create opportunities to love and serve others and how suffering can also increase our gratitude for the most important things in life.  Life Group Questions1. Begin your time in prayer as a group focusing on writing out a prayer of Lament. Here are the guide points: A) Begin by giving praise to God; just one or two sentences of praise B) Write a prayer that you think you have not been allowed to pray C). End your written prayer time by asking God for wisdom, strength, and others to help you along.  2. Read Hebrews 4:14-16. How has Jesus' suffering helped you get through life's toughest times?3. Read Romans 5:1-5. Talk about a time when you experienced this path that Paul talks about in these 5 verses.  4. How can you serve and pray for one another this coming week?

Read Hebrews 11: 1-2.1. What does the word “faith” mean to you?2. Take a look at all of Hebrews 11. Why is this chapter sometimes referred to as the“Hall of Faith”?3. Why does the phrase “by faith” occur so many times in chapter 11? What does thistell us about our own lives?4. Pastor Wendy Joyner describes life as a “glorious adventure” that we are to “viewthrough the lens of eternity.” She says we need to be “farsighted pilgrims.” What doyou think she means by all of this?5. Hebrews 11: 13 describes the Biblical heroes of the “Hall of Faith” as being “likestrangers and foreigners on the earth.” C.S. Lewis said, “The fact that our heartyearns for something Earth can't supply is proof that Heaven must be our home.”What do you make of this? Can you relate?6. 2 Corinthians 5: 7 says, “We walk by faith and not by sight.” What does this mean toyou?7. James 2: 17 says, “faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Whatdoes that mean to you? Is faith more than what we believe, but actually how welive? Is this what it means to “walk by faith,” actually putting our faith into action?8. Hebrews 11: 16 says, “they were longing for a better country, a heavenly one.” Howdoes this relate to questions 4 and 5 above? How does this inform us about the waywe are to live our daily lives? How might this mindset help us through the difficulttimes of life?9. Becoming more like Jesus is a daily pursuit, shaped by trusting God's promises, enduring life's ups and downs with faith, and living with an eternal perspective. Doyou agree with this statement? Why/why not?10. What do you need to change in your life in order to become a little more like Jesus?Prayer for the Week:Gracious and Loving God, we thank You for the powerful examples of faith You havegiven us through the Biblical heroes listed in the “Hall of Faith.” We are grateful for theopportunity to learn from their trust in Your promises, their endurance through the upsand downs of life, and their eternal perspective. Lord, help us to be “far sighted pilgrims”like them, living life as a glorious adventure viewed through the lens of eternity. In sodoing, help us to become a little more like Jesus. Help us to trust Your promises evenwhen the road ahead is unclear. Give us the strength to endure challenges and trialswith unwavering faith, knowing that You are using all of it to guide us and to shape usmore into the image of Jesus. May our lives reflect His love, His obedience, and Hisperseverance as we commit to walk by faith and not by sight. We pray all of this in thestrong name of Jesus, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, nowand forever. Amen.

We have been reading in Leviticus about the laws and offerings that were to come into operation now that they had made the Tabernacle with its Holy Place, altars and other furnishings. The clothing and rituals for the priests are very detailed and elaborate.Today's reading (Ch. 8) is about how the LORD tells Moses to bring Aaron and his sons and assemble all the congregation to the Tabernacle. They are then to hold what might be called an ordination ceremony. There are various ordination offerings (v.22,28, 29,31) Aaron and his sons are to stay within “the tent of meeting … until the days of your ordination (the A V uses the word consecration) are completed, for it will take 7 days to ordain you.”[v.33]Now all this is a total contrast to the way the church operated in the First Century. The New Testament has no mention or indication of anything like an ordination ceremony, there is no mention of them building places of worship – they appeared to meet in the homes of members as we read today in 1 Corinthians 16 v.19 to “the church in their house”– and note Acts 2 v.46. The word church does not mean a building, it means an ‘assembly' or congregation, as it is translated in Acts 19 v.32,39.There were elders and Peter simply describes himself as “a fellow elder” [1 Peter 5 v.1] and goes on to write that elders should “shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly, not domineering … but being examples to the flock.” [v.2,3] Jesus bluntly said, “call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.” [Matt 23 v.9]It was not until the Church was officially recognised by the Roman Empire in the 4th Century that an elaborate ritual of ordination and costuming was developed and this still happens today; most of the world is aware of the present drama of deciding who will be the next Pope! The First Century believers saw Jesus Christ as their only Priest. Read Hebrews 4 v14 to 5 v.10. Even the Jews abandoned their Priesthood system after their Temple was destroyed. Is there not a sense in which baptism is an ordination? When each individual ordains to be baptised, that is decides, they are made aware in various ways of the commitment they are making to Christ and to GodHow meaningful are those “the days of ordination” – what searchings of the heart! – but this world then presents them with many challenges and the regularly feeding of their and our minds on God' word is an essential source of strength to “endure unto the end.”

Thank you for loving us so much that you would send him from the lightof heaven to the darkness of this world to put on flesh and dwell among us.Thank you for entering your own creation in such a way that you not only relateto us, but save us from ourselves. How comforting it is to know that you get us.Even more comforting is the knowledge that Jesus gave his life to pay the pricefor our sins; a price we could never pay on our own. Forgive us for the timeswhen we might take this for granted. Help us to live lives of gratitude so that wemight give you honor and glory as we invite others to know you as we do. Wepray all of this in the precious, holy and strong name of Jesus, our King of kings,Lord of lords, and Great High Priest. Amen.

If you've ever felt like you're on a treadmill trying to please God, Hebrews 6 and 8 declare a radical shift. Jesus, our forerunner, has entered the inner sanctuary on our behalf, redefining our access to God. It's no longer about striving; it's about intimacy and closeness with Him. The old covenant's limitations are history, replaced by a new covenant where God writes His laws on our hearts. This isn't about external rules but an internal transformation. And here's the game-changer: God remembers your sins no more. Total forgiveness reshapes how you view your past, yourself, and your relationship with God. Ready to explore these liberating truths? He challenges listeners to consider adopting Sabbath practices in their lives, not as a burdensome religious obligation, but as a gift from God for spiritual renewal and deepening one's relationship with Him. When we come to Luke 6, we believe that Jesus is finishing His first year of ministry. At this time, He has a small group of disciples with Him, He is teaching in the synagogues and also ministering to large crowds as He travels throughout the region preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom. He is healing the sick, causing the lame to walk, and casting out demons.   But the Pharisees and religious leaders of the Jews are not impressed. They perceive that Jesus is a threat to their religious control over the people and they are also following Him to find fault and discredit Him in front of the people. They claim they care for the poor, sick and needy, but the truth is that they only care about their control over the people with their man-made laws that they have attached to the Law of Moses. I personally get the sense that this is exactly what is happening in the politics of the present election in America.   It is wonderful and amazing that in the midst of the controversy and public criticism that surrounded Jesus He still cares for the poor and needy and performs wonderful miracles of healing! I believe the Lord wants to do the same today in our neighborhoods, in our communities, in our churches and in our country.   In Luke 6:6-11, the Pharisees knew that it was our Lord's practice to be in the synagogue on the Sabbath, so they were there to watch Him and to gather more evidence against Him. Did they know that the handicapped man would also be there? Did they "plant" him there? We do not know, and Jesus probably did not care. His compassionate heart responded to the man's need, and He healed him. Jesus could have waited a few hours until the Sabbath was over, or He could have healed the man in private, but He did it openly and immediately. It was a deliberate violation of the Sabbath traditions.   Our Lord's defense in the field of grain was based on the Old Testament Scriptures (Luke 6:1-5), but His defense in the synagogue was based on the nature of God's Sabbath law. God gave that law to help people, not to hurt them. "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath" (Mark 2:27). Every man in the synagogue would rescue a sheep on the Sabbath, so why not rescue a man made in the image of God? (Matthew 12:11-12) The scribes and Pharisees had turned God's gift into a heavy yoke that nobody could bear (Acts 15:10; Gal. 5:1).   This miracle illustrates the power of faith in God's Word. Jesus commanded the man to do the very thing he could not do, and yet in obedience, he did it! (Luke 1:37). God's commandments are always God's enablements. Immediate obedience to the Word of God is the open expression of our faith! We can't save ourselves, but when we call out on the name of Jesus in obedience to His Word, He performs the miracle of salvation and spiritual healing for our soul! (Romans 10:13; Acts 16:29-31)   The scribes and Pharisees were filled with fury. It certainly did not do them any good to worship God in the synagogue that morning. So angry were they that they even joined forces with the Herodians (the Jews who supported Herod) in a plot to kill Jesus (Mark 3:6). Jesus knew their thoughts (Matthew 12:15; Luke 6:8); so He merely withdrew to the Sea of Galilee, ministered to the multitudes, and then went up to a mountain alone to pray.   Today, Jesus gives a spiritual "Sabbath rest" that is in the heart all the time (Matt. 11:28-30). Unlike the galling yoke of the Law, the yoke that Jesus gives is "well-fitting," and His "burden is light." When the sinner trusts the Savior, he has peace with God because his sins are forgiven, and he is reconciled to God (Rom. 5:1-11). As the believer yields to Christ in daily experience, he enjoys "the peace of God" in his heart and mind (Phil. 4:6-7).   Read Hebrews 4 to learn how obedience to God's Word will bring you into God's promised rest in Christ Jesus!   Have you come short of the promise of God's rest because of disobedience? (Hebrews 4:1)   God bless!

Friday October 11 2024, sundown Ending nightfall of Saturday October 12, 2024Last Wednesday October 2 to Friday October 4 2024 was the Jewish Holiday of Rosh Hashanah or the Blowing of the Trumpets! This morning we shall discuss the “Day of Atonement” or known as “Yom Kippur” [ Yom = the day, Kippur = ask for forgiveness].  Other words this is a special Feast in which you and I ask our Heavenly Father for all those sins which we may have over looked throughout the past year.In recognition of Yahweh's Words, we are instructed to honor and respect His 7 Holy Feast periods. Now I realize that the conditions set forth by Yahweh differs from what He sets forth in the beginning. What caught my interest into these 7 Holy Feasts was the Prophetic Message contained within them.We find that within these, 4 are in the season of the spring, while the remaining 3 are in the fall or “harvest. In studying the Prophecy aspect of Yahweh's Words, we realize and conclude that these Holy Feasts play an important role in the Prophecy of Yahshua Messiah concerning the past and the present. Let's take a brief view of the first 4 FeastsThe Feast of Passover pointed to Yahshua's death on Calvary as “the Lamb of Yahweh, who taketh away the sin of the world”, John 1:29The Feast of Unleavened Bread attested to the fact that Yahshua's body, unlike all others would not decay in the grave. The Feast of Firstfruits proclaimed the certainty of His bodily resurrection. The acceptance by Yahweh of the Firstfruits [sheaf] of the spring barley harvest guaranteed a full harvest to follow. By virtue of the resurrection of Yahshua Messiah, He is the Firstfruit and guarantees that all the Saints within Him will one day rise from the grave. The Feast of Pentecost, which occurs exactly 50 days after Firstfruits [the resurrection of the Messiah] anticipated the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the origin of the “Ek-kelsia”. We read in the Jewish Talmud, in the tractate of Sotah, foli #48 it reads in part “when Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi died, the Holy Spirit departed from Israel” These 4 events in the life of Yahshua Messiah, which the 4 spring feasts depicted, are history. We can look back at these events and they can be examined as historical facts. We can say that the first 4 set the foundation for the remaining 3. As I think on this foundation, I think of the Tabernacle, which is to come, and when this Tabernacle comes, then all of His Elect come to dwell in the eternalThe fall Feasts have not yet occurred! They are yet future and predict with absolute certainty, events that will most assuredly unfold. As the 4 spring Feasts were fulfilled literally and right on schedule in connection with the Messiah's first coming, the 3 Fall Feasts will likewise be fulfilled literally and right on schedule in connection with His second coming. What about the future of the Day of Atonement?Let's keep in mind, that the Levitical Sacrifices were a shadow of the good things that are coming.Read Hebrews 10:11   Those laws of the Old Covenant could never remove sin! Even the scapegoats figuratively removed sin from the house of Israel only for a year.Hebrews 9:6-146  this would be the services of the High Priest under that first Covenant going into the front part of the Temple.7  second = that's to say, into the “Holy of Holies”8   signifying = “deloo” to make clearway = literally “the way of the Holy” made manifest = “phaneroo” to render apparent. This word is taken from the Greek word “fan-er-os”, meaning shinning. The Greek word “fan-er-os” is taken from another Greek word, “fah-ee-no” which means “to lighten” or “shine”. This Greek word, “fah-ee-no” is taken from the Greek base word, “foce”, which mean to shine or make manifest.Have any questions? Feel free to email me keitner2024@outlook.com

Finding Hope: Anticipation #RTTBROS #Nightlight The Joy of Holy Anticipation "But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it." - Romans 8:25 (KJV) In the Christian walk, we often emphasize contentment, and rightly so. Yet, there's another powerful force that can fuel our joy and spiritual growth: holy anticipation. Far from contradicting contentment, godly anticipation can actually enhance our appreciation for God's goodness in both the present and the future. Reflection Anticipation is a God-given gift that allows us to experience joy not just in the moment, but before and after as well. It's a spiritual practice that echoes the biblical concept of hope - not a vague wish, but a confident expectation of good things to come. In Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV), God declares, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." Our Father invites us to look forward with excitement to the plans He has for us, both in this life and in eternity. This anticipation operates on two levels: 1. Micro Anticipation: These are the small, daily joys we can look forward to. Just as the Psalmist says, "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it" (Psalm 118:24, KJV), we can find delight in the simple pleasures God provides each day. 2. Macro Anticipation: These are the larger events or goals we anticipate over time. They reflect the "expected end" God promises, giving us a sense of purpose and direction in our journey. Importantly, each anticipated event offers three distinct opportunities for joy: 1. The excitement of planning and preparation 2. The joy of the experience itself 3. The lasting happiness of remembering and reflecting This three-fold joy mirrors our spiritual journey: we anticipate Christ's return, we experience joy in our daily walk with Him, and we remember with gratitude all He has done for us. Application 1. Identify Your Daily Joys: What simple pleasures has God placed in your life? Make a list of these "micro anticipations" and thank God for them each morning. 2. Plan Soul-Stirring Events: What larger experiences or goals energize your spirit? Prayerfully consider what these might be and start planning for them. 3. Practice Holy Imagination: Spend time imagining the good things God has in store for you, both in this life and in eternity. Let this fuel your hope and joy. 4. Create a Joy Journal: Record your anticipated events, your experiences of them, and your memories afterwards. Use this to cultivate gratitude and recognize God's faithfulness. 5. Share the Joy: Involve others in your anticipation. Share your excitement about upcoming events or daily pleasures, spreading the joy God has given you. Prayer Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of anticipation. Help us to recognize and appreciate the daily joys You've placed in our lives. Guide us as we plan and prepare for larger events that stir our souls. May our anticipation of these blessings remind us of the ultimate joy we have in looking forward to eternity with You. Let our lives be marked by both contentment in the present and holy excitement for the future. Help us to spread this joy to others, reflecting Your goodness in all we do. In Jesus' name, Amen. Dig Deeper 1. Read Hebrews 11:1. How does this definition of faith relate to the concept of godly anticipation? 2. Reflect on Philippians 3:13-14. How does Paul balance contentment with anticipation in his spiritual journey? 3. Consider the anticipation of Christ's birth in the Old Testament. How might this long period of waiting and expectation inform our own practice of anticipation? 4. What "micro anticipations" can you incorporate into your daily routine to increase your joy and gratitude? 5. Think about a "macro anticipation" in your life. How can you use the planning, experiencing, and remembering of this event to deepen your relationship with God?

Acts 22:12-21 12 "A man named Ananias came to me. He was a devout observer of the law and highly respected by all the Jews living there. 13 He stood beside me and said, 'Brother Saul, receive your sight!' And at that very moment I was able to see him. 14 Then he said: 'The God of our fathers has chosen you to know is will and to see the Righteous One and to hear words from his mouth. 15 You will be his witness to all men of what you have seen and heard. 16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.' 17 When I returned to Jerusalem and was praying at the temple, I fell into a trance 18 and saw the Lord speaking. 'Quick!' he said to me. 'Leave Jerusalem immediately, because they will not accept your testimony about me.' 19 'Lord,' I replied, 'these men know that I went from one synagogue to another to imprison and beat those who believe in you. 20 And when the blood of your martyr Stephen was shed, I stood there giving my approval and guarding the clothes of those who were killing him.' 21 Then the Lord said to me, 'God; I will send you far away to the Gentiles.'" This number serves as a kind of metaphor for the extent of the commitment that is necessary to fully develop or learn a skill. Course not source - "Our obedience is no longer the source, but our obedience is still the course."
