The organization which works in tandem with SEOPW CRA, she's worked to bring black-owned businesses back to Overtown for more than 45 years and continues to be a pioneer for economic change in the community through Folk Life Friday. At 83 years old, Ms. Bell is considered to be a beacon in the Overtown community. Folk Life Friday returns June 18th + 19th at the Overtown Pedestrian Mall located at 819 NW 2nd Avenue.  Leroy Jones is the CEO of Neighbors and Neighbors Association. The organization runs the Overtown Business Resource Center located at 1490 NW 3rd Avenue, Suite 106 in Overtown and recently teamed up with the SEOPW CRA to manage the SEOPW CRA's COVID-19 Emergency Small Business Grant. The grant will award up to $10k in grant assistance to small businesses located within the redevelopment area. Connect with us at: SecondLineArts.org A versatile jazz trumpeter based in New Orleans, Ashlin Parker is sought after for big band, small ensemble, and solo performances. He has played with various ensembles at jazz festivals and clubs in Australia, Barbados, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, England, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, and Wales. Ashlin leads the Trumpet Mafia and plays regularly with ensembles in New Orleans, such as the Ellis Marsalis Quintet, The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, and Bill Summers and Jazalsa. He has played with musicians such as Ellis Marsalis, Jason Marsalis, Delfeayo Marsalis, Herlin Riley, Roland Guerin, Leroy Jones, Derek Douget, Adonis Rose, Dr. John, Karl Denson, Igor Butman, and Nicholas Payton, as well as vocalists Rafael Saadiq, the O'Jays, Anthony Hamilton, PJ Morton, Aretha Franklin, Quiana Lynell, Tiffany Austin, and Dee Dee Bridgewater. In addition to teaching private lessons and leading master classes at many high schools, colleges, and universities throughout the U.S., Ashlin teaches children and teenagers at the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music (2015-present), teaches applied jazz trumpet lessons at the University of New Orleans (2011-present), and serves as a visiting assistant professor of jazz studies at Tulane University (2018-2020).   Honors include sharing in the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble for the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra's debut album, entitled Book One. Trumpet Mafia won the OffBeat Magazine's 2017 Best of the Beat Award: Emerging Artist of the Year. Ashlin won the French Quarter Fest, Inc. 2018 Spirit of Satchmo Award for his musical contributions to New Orleans. He didn’t seem to learn much in the numerous stints in prison he served. He had been sent to solitary confinement for fighting and selling drugs etc. numerous times, and one day he got sent back again, this time for 28 days, and his reading material was a Holy Bible. Richard Pryor is playing three different roles here. The first being a poor orange picker named Leroy Jones who gets laid off when by mistake he joins the worker's union during one of their demonstrations. Afterwards he is forced to leave his wife and family behind which also includes Leroy's father (also played by Pryor) to go to Los Angeles. Leroy ends up working for the same company that fired him back home. He is a manager at the company but he is now distant from his former pals. He meets and falls in love with Vanetta who is a labor organizer which leaves him splitting time between his wife Annie Mae and Vanetta. When Leroy finds out that the Reverend Lenox Thomas (also played by Pryor) has got his wife pregnant while he was absent, he then make the moves on the reverend's wife.
