The annual Juneteenth celebration — recognized annually on June 19 — commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It was on that day in 1865 when the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation occurred in Texas.While it took another 156 years for Juneteenth to become an official federal holiday (in 2021, in case you don't want to do the math), the celebration has deep roots in Milwaukee. Led by Northcott Neighborhood House, the event is considered one of the oldest and longest-running in the country.Still, organizers keep finding brand new ways for history to unfold in our city. And this year, for the first time, Milwaukee's official Juneteenth celebration is teaming up with the World's Largest Music Festival: Summerfest.That means things won't just happen in the Bronzeville neighborhood. After the daytime festivities, the night will continue at the Summerfest grounds with an introduction of the Juneteenth Court and, of course, the music. Alvin and German conduct a great conversation with Author and Entrepreneur, Dan Gasby.'76. Dan began his career at a UHF TV station in Tennessee, where he embarked on a highly successful journey in television sales and production. He created and co-produced "Big Break," a musical variety show hosted by Natalie Cole that served as a forerunner to "American Idol," launching the careers of Eric Benét and R. Kelly. In 1992, Dan produced the first televised Essence Awards. He co-authored "Before I Forget: Love, Hope, Help, and Acceptance in Our Fight Against Alzheimer's" with his late wife, Barbara “B.” Smith, and Michael Shnayerson. The book details the daily challenges they faced as a couple coping with Alzheimer's. Dan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religion.

About Ben and Eric: Ben is a first-generation poultry and cattle farmer. His wife, Nicole, and I have two boys and are expecting our 3rd child any day. Eric is a 5th generation poultry and cattle farmer. He and his wife, Carly, have a daughter and a son. Our channel, Farmer Hunt, is a behind-the-scenes look into some of our work on our farm. We raise chickens commercially and also raise cattle. We sell farm-to-table beef as well. Gerald T. Watkins Jr is a drummer/percussionist originally from Norfolk, Va and is now residing in New Orleans, LA. He has degrees in music from both Norfolk State University (B.S) and Florida State University (M.M). He performs locally with many of the areas finest musicians and also tours abroad. He has performed with members of Marsalis family (Ellis, Delfeayo, and Jason), The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Eric Benét, Ledisi and many others. Georgy Porgy!!! Episode 26 is all about the smooth vocalist that we all know as Mr. Eric Benet. Eric Benét is a contemporary R&B singer with mild hip-hop and strong adult contemporary influences. As a teenager, he performed in a family vocal group (appropriately named Benét) with his sister and cousin. The group signed with EMI and released an eponymous album in 1992 that largely went unnoticed. Eric blazed his own trail as a solo artist shortly afterward, signing to Warner Bros. and releasing his debut album, True to Myself, in the fall of 1996. A Day in the Lifefollowed in 1999. Its first single, a cover of Toto's "Georgy Porgy," was a moderate radio hit, but it was the album's second single, "Spend My Life with You" (featuring Tamia), that helped put him on the map. The song went to number one on the Billboard R&B chart, was certified gold, and received a nomination for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group. Benét's popularity was on the rise, and A Day in the Life went platinum and earned a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Album, Male.
