"How can our electorate be informed if we are blocking - intentionally blocking access to information about such a crucial issue?" - Lesley WilliamsJust north of Chicago, in Evanston Illinois, 20-year veteran librarian Lesley Williams became the center of a controversy that involved an invitation to Palestinian author and scholar Ali Abunimeh to speak at a series at the Evanston Public Library. Lesley was then told to "postpone" the reading by her boss. What ensued was a series of public-facing PR gaffes and political maneuvers that eventually brought the author to the library for an engagement, but not before the damage had been done.In the current world of censorship and job separations based on the genocide in Gaza and suppression of Palestinian voices, this might come across your feed as something as a sad "new normal," but the Evanston library incident happened in 2014, and culminated with Lesley's departure from the library three years later.Ten years later, Lesley joins Arabs in Media to share not only the personal side and timeline of what happened at the Evanston Public Library, but exposes in a fascinating talk how the "innocent ol' library" - the original medium for accessing knowledge intellectual freedom - are not just hotspots for book banning the ways we may or may not understand it, but are places where open discussions and knowledge exchanges are also being essentially doxxed. If you followed the story when it first happened, you'll get more depth and perspective on the details surrounding the controversy from that time.As an active member of Jewish Voices for Peace and champion for justice, Leslie shares great insights on everything from the library ethos and Bill of Rights, to why it's so hard to find books about Palestine by Palestinian authors, to how big chain bookstores do a disservice on how they hide the few Palestinian stories they do carry. How are your books placed? How are your community programs programmed? How does this relate to library censorship, the one place you expect information to be accessible? How can you re-think what free-thinking is in this world where people get fired for standing up against genocide? Finally, if you are a book lover and/or someone interested in reading some recommended works, you can't miss this episode. Cortese grapes, grown in a designated zone around the town of Gavi in Piemonte, are classified as Gavi del Comune di Gavi and these vineyards produce wines of great finesse. Nadiyah Humber, Associate Professor at UConn School of Law, Dr. Preston Green, Professor of Educational Leadership and Law at UConn, and Dr. Leslie Williams, lecturer of Higher & Postsecondary Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, provide the context for understanding how Affirmative Action fits into a larger history of educational inequality for minoritized students. Our guests discuss how, given our current legal and political climate, there are action steps that higher education institutions can take to remove barriers that disproportionately impact racially minoritized students. With regard to anti-racist teaching, this episode provides faculty with recommendations on how to leverage classroom spaces and use critical theories in their practice. Together these strategies are meant to understand the full context of educational inequality and also drive constructive dialogue to envision more equitable pipelines and support mechanisms for minoritized scholars, staff, and faculty.
Tom Dunne was joined LIVE from the Galmont Hotel, Galway by Olivia Fahy, Sarina Bellissimo and Leslie Williams with thanks to Marks and Spencer.Today's wines are listed below:All wines are available at Marks and Spencer:1. Altamar Sauvignon Blanc - €14 A lively, crisp, refreshing white wine with flavours of lime, lemon, gooseberry. A delicious Sauvignon Blanc from Chile's premium, cool climate Leyda Valley with intense aromas of grapefruit and lime, a hint of black pepper and delicate floral notes. The harmonious and refreshing citrus flavours pair so well with grilled salmon, chicken dishes or creamy pasta. 2. Guia Real Rioja - €14 Back in the 1970s when we were all a lot poorer if you were served wine in Ireland it was generally sweet German wines or dodgy French vin de table with added sugar to make them drinkable. The exception on our shelves in those days was Rioja. We took to Rioja early and we still love it. Tempranillo aged in oak barrels to give juicy fruity wines with a background of cedar and spice. An easy-going Rioja made from Tempranillo grapes, with floral aromas and flavours of fresh red cherries. Mellow enough to enjoy on its own, this rich and fruity, medium-bodied wine is perfect with lighter meats, pizza and pasta dishes. Suitable for vegans. 3. Salentein Malbec - €23 Ahh Malbec, the Irish love Malbec! I've never met a butcher that didn't want to tell me how good Malbec is with a fine big lump of steak, and they are not wrong. From sunny high altitude vineyards that get loads of heat in the daytime but at night cool down to give the grapes a rest and preserve acidity. This gives big juicy black fruit flavours but crucially also freshness. I actually like to serve this a little cool - around 10-12 degrees or so to bring out those fresh black berry and liquorice flavours. A rich, flavourful and complex wine with flavours of dark fruits, violets and spices.
Sean was joined LIVE from Newpark Hotel in Kilkenny by Leslie Williams, Brian Lloyd and Fionnuala Jones with thanks to Marks and Spencer.Today's wines are listed below:All wines are available at Marks and Spencer:Alsace Gewurztraminer Gewurztraminer is one of those grapes everyone should try at least once. Only to be found in Alsace (and Germany), this is intensely aromatic with rose petal and lychees scents and a lush palate. These exotic tropical flavours make this an excellent match for Asian dishes such as Thai or Chinese food but also with dishes containing pumpkin, sweet potato or parsnips. M&S Quintessence Méditerranée France has always had the world's most famous Rosés from Provence to the Loire to the Rhône (Tavel AOC in the Rhône is exclusively Rosé). This is made in the Provence style so pale in colour, floral and fragrant, and of course dry on the palate - making it perfect for matching with shellfish, pizza or even spicy food. Classics Claret Claret simply means red Bordeaux - the English coined the term and it originates from the word "Clairet" which is a light style of Bordeaux which is closer to pink than red. This is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with a little Cabernet Franc - the three classic Bordeaux red grapes. Ripe and fruity with blackcurrant fruits and a touch of chocolate, perfect for a nice steak. Clairet still exists as a style but has fallen out of popularity a little as the world looks to paler rosé.
Sean was joined LIVE from Athlone Springs Hotel by Leslie Williams, Brian Lloyd and Fionnuala Jones with thanks to Marks and Spencer.Today's wines are listed below:All wines are available at Marks and SpencerBellante Prosecco - Price €15A creamy, elegant sparkling wine with flavours of white peach and jasmine. Everyone loves Sauvignon Blanc, by far the biggest selling grape in Ireland. This is from rom the rolling countryside of Gascony in South West France, a wine which elegantly blends Sauvignon Blanc's naturally tangy, herbal character with a deliciously soft succulence from the region's sunny climate.. Gold Label Sauvignon Blanc - Price €8Lively French Sauvignon Blanc, packed with a ripe cocktail of pear, grapefruit, lime and gooseberry flavours. Pays Gascogne whites are some of the best value and most underrated wines in France. Originally these vineyards would have been focused on Armagnac Brandy which is still produced and is more interesting than Cognac. Fleurie is by far the best known Cru Village of Beaujolais, a sub-region of Burgundy. Now that nobody can afford Burgundy anymore many of us have turned to Beaujolais. Gamay, the Beaujolais grape, may not be as complex as Burgundy's Pinot Noir but it has lively cherry fruit flavours and oodles of character, especially from the cru villages like Fleurie, Morgon and Moulin a Vent. Fleurie Now Priced - Price €12A refreshing red wine with flavours of raspberries and violets. This medium-bodied wine from the village of Fleurie is one of Beaujolais' most famous ‘cru' wines. Serve chilled alongside duck, tuna and omelettes. Suitable for vegans. At its best within two years

This is from the ultra-trendy region of Swartland, filled with hipsters and cook young winemakers - and lots of old gnarly vines making great wine. This is a vibrant tropical zesty white with flavours of Citrus, peach, apricot, flint. The Old Vine Project of South Africa recognises the importance of caring for vineyards to allow vines to have a healthy and productive old age, thus creating a sustainable farming model. This Chenin Blanc is made exclusively for M&S Riebeek Valley Wines from 35-year-old vines carefully cultivated by the 22 families who found the winery almost 80 years ago. Best enjoyed chilled within 3 years of purchase. Bardolino Chiaretto Rose, Veneto, Italy - Price €14 From the hills around Lake Garda in the Veneto - Bardolino is a pretty lakeside village just 30km from Verona. Bardolino Chiaretto is made from the same grapes as Valpolicella and Amarone. Cherry fruits, cherry skin tangy freshness and pleasing elegance. Chiaretto rosé wines are produced in northern Italy's Bardolino region where the wine grapes grown on the glacial hillside soil impart freshness and a lovely minerality. Made from the Corvina grape, with some Rondinella and Molinara, the lightly grippy structure and crisp finish pairs well with seafood, pasta, and tasty vegetable dishes. Serve chilled. Matetic Estela Lunar Pinot Noir - Casablanca, Chile - Price €18 Pinot Noir is the great grape of red Burgundy that grows well in just a few places in the world. Burgundy is the most famous, parts of coastal California and New Zealand are some others but the most overlooked is the Pacific Coastal vineyards of Chile such as the Casablanca Valley an hour north of Santiago A vibrant, smooth, and elegant wine with flavours of cherry, blueberry, spice.

Az 1971-ben készült "Váltságdíj egy halottért" című Columbo epizódban Leslie Williams ügyvédnő lelövi a férjét, ám közben azt a látszatot kelti, mintha elrabolták volna a férfit, és váltságdíjat követelnének érte. Why were wolves removed from the endangered species list? Bradley talks to Leslie Williams and Samantha Attwood, the mother-daughter duo behind The #RelistWolves Campaign, a grassroots coalition made up of dedicated conservationists, environmental nonprofit organizations, wildlife advocates, and scientists working to relist wolves on the endangered species list. Gray wolves are caught up in political tensions between the federal government and the states, which are lobbied by the powerful hunting lobby to sanction brutal hunts. Williams and Attwood have created a coalition to push back against these special interests through science-backed advocacy. "Once they get rid of the wolves," says Attwood, "they're gonna go after the grizzly bear. They're gonna go after the big cats. They're gonna go after a lot of animals. So I think it's important that we make a stand right here." Learn more at relistwolves.org.

What if the key to aging well is simpler than we thought - and available to everyone? Dr. Lisa Leslie-Williams began her career as a pharmacist, where she noticed that many customers were filling prescriptions to treat chronic illnesses that were preventable by making different lifestyle choices. She found that she felt more called to help people live healthy, thriving lives by getting in front of those diseases and conditions rather than defaulting to treating them chemically - or as she puts it, “on the back end.” Dr. Lisa now provides encouragement, education, and inspiration toward living a healthier life at The Domestic Life Stylist. Her approach is based on her island upbringing where she learned to look to nature for nourishing and healing. Dr. Lisa also knows that what we eat is only part of the equation - mindset is also key. If we stay curious, keep learning, and find ways to make lifestyle changes fun and exciting, we're so much more likely to succeed and actually enjoy trying new things. Listen on for an inspiring and entertaining episode of The Mother of Reinvention Show! About Dr. Lisa Leslie-Williams Planted on the nature island of Dominica West Indies and natured in America's Paradise, the United States Virgin Islands, Dr. Lisa Leslie-Williams grew up with the notion that food was medicine and that nature was a resource best tapped into first. A registered pharmacist by trade, Dr. Lisa traded her script pad for a keypad and never looked back. Inspired by her own changes in her diet and health, her blog, the Domestic Life Stylist, offers educational and inspiring posts on healthy and intentional living where food and lifestyle habits not pharmaceuticals, are first line to attaining optimal health and wellness.
