Innovation Meets Integrity: AI and the Preacher's Calling with Paul Hoffman

Artificial intelligence is already reshaping how some pastors write sermons, lead meetings, and care for people—but what are the theological and ethical boundaries for its use in ministry? In this wide-ranging conversation, Mike Neglia speaks with Dr Paul Hoffman about the promises and perils of AI for preachers and church leaders. Together they explore the difference between narrow and general AI, how it can streamline administrative work, and why it should never replace the Spirit-led work of sermon preparation. This thoughtful exchange offers both caution and clarity for pastors navigating technology in a rapidly changing world.Together, they explore the difference between general and narrow AI, where it can be useful in pastoral ministry (meeting prep, research, organising sermon notes), and where it poses serious spiritual and ethical concerns (outsourcing sermon writing, shortcuts in discipleship). Paul makes a passionate case for the irreplaceable role of the preacher's soul in interpreting and applying God's Word—and warns against any technological solution that would diminish that.Mike and Paul also talk about the pastoral and educational implications of AI use, including issues of plagiarism, critical thinking, spiritual formation, and the need for deep wisdom in an age of endless information. You'll hear reflections on how AI can help—and how it might hinder—our calling to shepherd people toward Christlikeness. If you're a pastor, Bible teacher, student, or church leader wrestling with how to navigate new tech wisely, this episode will offer clarity, caution, and encouragement.

Cooperation between gun shop owners and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) is crucial. Store owners need to feel supported in reporting mistakes and fixing them without fear of severe consequences. The regulatory and criminal aspects are merging in cases related to firearms regulations. ATF agents and the federal government play a key role in how these cases evolve. The complicated regulatory scheme, involving intricate forms and requirements, can unwittingly lead to legal issues for law-abiding gun shop owners. There is growing concern about the government's crackdown on gun shops using regulations as a criminal tool. Cases involving paperwork errors should not be considered capital offenses, leading to the loss of livelihood and imprisonment for store owners. Strict enforcement may be politically motivated, resulting in reduced availability of firearms without addressing the root causes of gun crime.Email us your questions at info@munitionsgroup.com.Co-host Derek DeBrosse is a licensed Ohio attorney with a firearms legal practice emphasizing in Gun Rights Restoration. Can You Own a Gun with a Medical Marijuana Card?

Munitions Podcast

Civil Protection Order case recently was overturned by a circuit court. So here's a scenario to consider. If you are in California, you have a municipal marijuana card, you're at the gun range, you get stopped by law enforcement, you get arrested. Are you an unlawful user of a controlled substance? And the answer from the court is yes. Because under federal law, it's still a scheduled drug, schedule one.But you say, "Hey, I got this marijuana card, can I have a gun?" It's an interesting question. Having a card is not what's illegal when you have a gun, right? The law doesn't say that you can't have a gun if you have a marijuana card. Right? It says you can't be an unlawful user. Now, what does "user of" mean? Does that mean ingesting it? Does that mean partaking in it? Does that mean selling it? It probably means all of the above. But the card itself is not a controlled substance. But it's exactly the evidence that would lead a jury to believe that you're an unlawful user. So it can be used against you if you're a gun owner. So if you're out there getting a medicinal marijuana card and you're a gun owner, you're putting yourself in some serious legal jeopardy. And more!Email us your questions at info@munitionsgroup.com.Co-host Derek DeBrosse is a licensed Ohio attorney with a firearms legal practice emphasizing in Gun Rights Restoration. Ohio's "firearm preemption" law, in Ohio Revised Code 9.68, makes it illegal for local subdivisions to regulate "any firearm, part of a firearm, its components, and its ammunition." So preemption basically means the state of Ohio, as the bigger entity, has sole and exclusive authority to write and make laws on gun regulation. Otherwise what happens is, let's say Columbus passes a law about regulating firearms beyond the state of Ohio's laws. The state of Ohio says you can't do this. But there are numerous cities around Ohio that are not following this Ohio Revised Code 9.68. And are being sued. And this has led to a Fairfield County judge granting the state's request for a temporary restraining order to halt the enforcement of Columbus' newly enacted gun restrictions.Plus more about SHOT Show 2023. Republicans who claim they were protecting people of faith in voting for this law opened the floodgate for litigation and harassment that will be like an enormous rock rolling downhill onto those with traditional, Biblical views on marriage. The supposed protections ? Andrea Boerries, Consultant, Member of Society International Development, DGVN (United Nations Association Germany) and DGAP (German Council of Foreign Relations), terrific thought partner, joins Yo to discuss Susan Cain's book, Quiet. Andrea brings a global perspective to help us see being an introvert as a human phenomenon we can be proud to be. Because of the depth of our conversation and richness of the content, we decided to make this into two parts. Here's how the discussion went: · How has the book uncovered our own tendencies toward being an introvert? · How can companies help acknowledge introverts in their training efforts? · Are there characteristics of Gen Zers that could be more introverted than other generations? · How did reading this book change our thinking about being an introvert? · How can teachers and other leaders help introverts learn to be comfortable leading? During the episode, Andrea mentioned a few additional sources that might be helpful: 1. German Book, English translation Jennifer B. Kahnweiler (2018) The Introverted Leader: Building on your Quiet Strength 2nd ed, Berrett-Koehler Publishers; Germany. 2. Aguas, J. (2019) Millenial and Generation Z's Perspectives on Leadership Effectiveness in Emerging Leadership Journeys Vol. 13, Issue 1, @Regent University School of Business and Leadership 3. Prof. Dr. Amarendra Bushan Dhiraj, (03/24/2022), Quote on Satya Nadella, CEO and Chairman, Microsoft, Redmond, WA. in CEO World Magazine, @ceoworld.biz. More about Andrea: Andrea grew up in Central Germany's beautiful Taunus area, close to Frankfurt. She spent her Senior year at Carlisle High School, PA. After graduation in 1981 and finishing her German diploma, she spent 2 years traveling the world as an air hostess with Lufthansa, went to Paris, France and received a language diploma, worked in a consultancy and got hired as an event manager in an advertising agency in Hamburg. She went on to work in the advertising business as a client consultant while pursuing a degree in Marketing and Communication. She started her family in 1994, moved to Silicon Valley and stayed for 10 years. In 2007, her daughter got very sick and she changed her life style completely to become healthier and strong to best support her family during this time. She became a yoga teacher but had a severe accident which led to numerous surgeries and couldn't continue teaching yoga. She always enjoyed following politics, and after participating in a few online classes (Women's Health and HR, Stanford, Sustainability, Columbia, Intro to Intl. Development, Cambridge), she settled for studying International Development at University of Cambridge, England. While in Cambridge, she volunteered as an intern for NGOs in Kenia, Myanmar and India. She also worked as a volunteer in the Hamburg refugee program for a year in school administration and founded and built a refugee camp library. She received an invite to further her education in Sustainability in a summer program at the UN Systems Staff College in Bonn. She graduated from Cambridge and went on to pursue a bachelor's degree in Political science at University of Hamburg, while working as an intern and later student employee for a Federal German development project in Youth employment, SIFA (Skills Initiative for Africa) in Johannesburg in cooperation with eight African countries. She has three grown children 20, 25 and 28 yrs. old. Ways to reach Andrea: Email: aboerries904@gmail.com Ways to reach Yo: Email: yo@yocanny.com
