If Donald Trump is king of anything he's the king of losing in court. He's had three recent court losses: one on the Immigration front, one on the Department of Education front, and one involving a judge upbraiding Alina Habba for not understanding the responsibilities of a United States Attorney. If you're interested in supporting our all-volunteer efforts, you can become a Team Justice patron at: / glennkirschner If you'd like to support Glenn and buy Team Justice and Justice Matters merchandise visit:https://shop.spreadshirt.com/glennkir...Check out Glenn's website at https://glennkirschner.com/Follow Glenn on:Threads: https://www.threads.net/glennkirschner2Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/glennkirschner2Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/glennkirsch...Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/glennkirschn...TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/glennkirschner2See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Presidents have long pursued policy prerogatives through the Department of Justice, but traditionally, there's been a clear division between those and the Justice Department's enforcement decisions. On March 5, 2025, the NYU Law Forum and the Reiss Center on Law and Security at NYU School of Law co-hosted an all-star panel of experts who have served in senior positions at the White House and in the Department of Justice to assess the degree to which the division between the President and the Justice Department has now changed. Among the topics they discussed are: What is the origin of and reason for the Justice Department's measure of independence? How has this independence worked given the Justice Department's mix of political and career employees, and how is the current administration observing those lines? The expert panel consisted of Vanita Gupta, a Distinguished Scholar in Residence at NYU School of Law and the former Associate Attorney General of the United States; Lisa Monaco, a Distinguished Scholar in Residence at the Reiss Center on Law and Security and the former Deputy Attorney General of the United States; and Breon Peace, the former United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. Trevor Morrison, a former Associate White House Counsel, the Dean Emeritus, Eric M. and Laurie B. Roth Professor of Law, and a Faculty Co-Director of the Reiss Center on Law and Security, moderated the discussion. Democrats love adjusting to low-living! PLUS, Shaun talks to William Kolibash, former United States Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia, about how some of his most prolific cases documented in his newest book, Justice Never Rests: A US Attorney's Battle Against Murderers, Drug Lords, Mob Kingpins, & Cults, have boiled down to everybody wanting the easy way out. And Ashley Oliver, Justice Department reporter for the Washington Examiner, talks to Shaun about the theme of people not trusting Elon Musk being correlated with his efforts to shrink government as 14 states set to sue him and the Trump Administration over DOGE's Authority. Harry talks to Kristy Greenberg, former Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division in the Southern District of New York, about the burgeoning scandal involving the resignation of the acting United States Attorney and multiple other officials in her office and at Main Justice. The resignations all come in response to an improper command by the acting deputy Attorney General, Emile Bove, to dismiss charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams, notwithstanding that there is no question about the righteousness – i.e. the solid facts and law –that undergird the prosecution. Through Greenberg's experience in the Southern District and Harry's at Main Justice, they are able to piece together what has happened behind the scenes to date and what may transpire in the future, and all of it pits Bove, Bondi and Trump on the wrong side of the rule of law and Sassoon and Company on the right side. Donald Trump is on his corrupt revenge tour. As NBC News reported, "Trump administration fires DOJ officials who worked on criminal investigations of the president." And just a few blocks away from the DOJ, at the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, Trump appointed Ed Martin - who has ZERO prosecutorial experience - as the District's top prosecutor. Who is Martin? This from PBS: "D.C.'s new top prosecutor advocated for Jan. 6 rioters and echoed Trump's false 2020 election claims." Soon after he was appointed by Trump, Martin apparently decided a law enforcement priority for the people of DC was to open a review of all prosecutions of Jan. 6th defendants. As the Wall Street Journal reported, "Trump-Appointed Prosecutor Opens Review of Justice Department's Jan. 6 Cases".Glenn discusses the two dangerous, rule-of-law-busting developments. If you're interested in supporting our all-volunteer efforts, you can become a Team Justice patron at: / glennkirschner If you'd like to support us and buy Team Justice and Justice Matters merchandise visit:https://shop.spreadshirt.com/glennkir...Check out Glenn's website at https://glennkirschner.com/Follow Glenn on:Threads: https://www.threads.net/glennkirschner2X aka Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/glennkirschner2Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/glennkirschner2Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/glennkirsch...Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/glennkirschn...TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/glennkirschner2See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Kathryn Turman served as the Assistant Director over the FBI Victim Services Division from 2002 – 2020. Former FBI Director Robert Mueller brought her to the FBI several months after the September 11th attacks with the mission to establish a robust, professional victim services program. In 2005, Ms. Turman established a terrorism and mass casualty Victim Services Response Team that has become an international model. Prior to joining the FBI, Ms. Turman served in the Department of Justice as Director of the Missing and Exploited Children's Program, Chief of the Victim Witness Assistance Unit in the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, and Principal Deputy Director and Director of the Office for Victims of Crime. Kathryn is arguably the Bureau's most consistently called-upon contributor. She presided over the FBI's victim-centered responses to every major case since 9/11, including the Boston Marathon bombings, multiple mass-casualty shootings, international kidnappings and murders, and scores of federal crimes. She retired from federal service in June 2020. Recall that Special Counsel Jack Smith was required by Department of Justice policy to dismiss the classified documents case against Donald Trump because DOJ has a horrific policy that a criminal president cannot be prosecuted while in office. However, the Mara-a-Lago documents case continues against Trump's two co-defendants, Walt Nauta and Carlos de Oliveira. The case presently is being appealed as a result of Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Cannon dismissing the case contrary to existing precedent. Given that Jack Smith is stepping down as Special Counsel, he just transferred the classified documents case to federal prosecutors at the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida. This episode examines the South Carolina Capital punishment. How is it decided whether a murder becomes a capital offense? Who decides whether someone might face the death penalty? Why was Alex Murdaugh not charged with a capital offense? Those questions and more are answered by former U.S. States Attorney for the District of South Carolina, Bill Nettles. Nettles discusses a very interesting case in which he defended a man on death row. Bill Nettles possesses an extraordinary, almost unparalleled depth and breadth of experience. You cannot find an attorney who will be better equipped to provide you with the high-quality representation you deserve. Mr. Nettles was appointed United States Attorney for the District of South Carolina by President Obama and was sworn into that office on May 3, 2010. As the US Attorney, he dramatically overhauled the office to focus on public corruption, fraud and white collar crime, while also greatly increasing resources to the extraordinarily important false claims whistleblower division. Under Mr. Nettles' leadership, the US Attorney's office made white collar crime and public corruption the highest priority of the criminal division's efforts. He also earned national praise for the innovative and intelligent approach his office took to drug crimes. Mr. Nettles was the longest serving US attorney since the 1960's, ensuring he had an extraordinary impact on the personnel and the policies of that important office. Because of his service as the United States Attorney for the entire state of South Carolina he has worked with the heads of the Department of Justice to help shape policy for the last 5 and a half years. Before being appointed a US Attorney, Mr. Nettles graduated from The Citadel and earned his law degree at The Widener University School of Law, where he was on law review and was a member of the moot court honor society. After graduating, he began a career that has taken him into every corner of the legal system. Starting in 2005, he worked at Sanders & Nettles, LLC until being appointed the US Attorney. If you find yourself in need of an experienced lawyer in South Carolina and you want to speak with our attorney about your case, please call the Law Office of Bill Nettles at 803-284-8906 for a free consultation. Host Gregg N. Sofer welcomes Husch Blackwell partner Catherine Hanaway to the podcast to discuss the recent sentencing of Nishad Singh, a former key lieutenant of Sam Bankman-Fried, the cryptocurrency mogul responsible for one of the largest frauds in American business history. Bankman-Fried was recently sentenced to 25 years in prison, but Nishad Singh received no prison time due to his cooperation with government investigators in developing their case against Bankman-Fried. Gregg and Catherine use the Singh case as a jumping-off point to explore some of the most difficult and consequential issues in white collar defense: how and when to self-disclose potentially illegal conduct to the government and how and when to cooperate with government prosecutors.Gregg N. Sofer BiographyFull BiographyGregg counsels businesses and individuals in connection with a range of criminal, civil and regulatory matters, including government investigations, internal investigations, litigation, export control, sanctions, and regulatory compliance. Prior to entering private practice, Gregg served as the United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas—one of the largest and busiest United States Attorney's Offices in the country—where he supervised more than 300 employees handling a diverse caseload, including matters involving complex white-collar crime, government contract fraud, national security, cyber-crimes, public corruption, money laundering, export violations, trade secrets, tax, large-scale drug and human trafficking, immigration, child exploitation and violent crime.Catherine Hanaway BiographyFull BiographyCatherine is a St. Louis-based partner with Husch Blackwell's White Collar, Internal Investigations & Compliance team and a former chair of the firm. Lisa Phillips is a model, actress, survivor, and victim advocate who has spent much of her life all over the world. While cultivating a career in the modeling and acting industries, Lisa even found herself overseas and as a guest on Jeffrey Epstein's private island. That specific trip would become quite traumatic for Lisa, and although she would never return to the property again, she would soon be trafficked into a vast and widespread ring that enabled mass sexual assault. However, it wouldn't be until after navigating the legal system and sharing her story with other survivors of the same serial abuser, that Lisa truly was confronted by the depth of her trauma. In this commentary episode of the Patrick coffin show, Patrick does a review of the players and principles surrounding the bull's eye of the target known as Sean “Diddy” Combs, arrested last month by Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and William S. Walker, the Acting Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations. Diddy was charged with a three-count indictment for racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. But this case is not about celebrity gossip or the downfall of one or two bad apples. It is a revelation of the depth of depravity and denial that has always characterized the entertainment industry. The Diddy indictment alleges that between 2008 and 2024, he abused, threatened, and coerced women and others, and led a racketeering conspiracy that engaged in sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice, among other crimes. In the Hollyweird orbit of Epsteins and Weinsteins, why would a Combs indictment for similar behavior shock us? There are more questions to be asked. Topics covered in this episode: Why is no one talking about the “family tree” of mentorship and manipulation by the man who discovered Diddy, R&B producer Andre Harrell, and the man who discover Harrell—the creepy self-described bisexual Clive Davis, founder of Arista Records. How did Diddy's career really start? The litany of people connected to Diddy who showed up dead or seriously ill, like ex-girlfriend Kim Porter, JayZ's pregnant mistress Cathy White, singer Aaliyah, and radio host Wendy Williams. Former insiders to follow: R&B singer Jaguar Wright, comedian Katt Williams, and former Diddy bodyguard Gene Deal. Troubled rappers connected to Diddy: JayZ, Drake, Usher, 50 cent, Tupac Shakur, Biggie Smalls (aka the Notorious BIG), R. Kelly Rappers are black proxies for largely non-black owners, who seem always to escape justice Puff Combs' Bay Boy Records (owned by BMG, sold to Sony in 2008, CEO Rob Stringer; Travis Scott's Cactus Jack Records, distributed by Epic Records, owned by Sony Music Entertainment, CEO Rob Stringer; Drake's OVO Sound, an imprint of Warner Records from its formation until 2022, CEO Aaron Bay-Schuck; Tyler, The Creator, Odd Future Records, parent company, Sony Music Entertainmen, CEO Rob Stringer; Legendary DEF JAM records, parent company Universal Music Group, CEO Sir Lucian Grainge; Jay Z's Rock a Fella Records, owned by Universal Music Group, CEO is Sir Lucian Grainge; 50 Cent's G-Unit Records, owned by Universal Music Group, CEO Sir Lucian Grainge; Usher and Justin Bieber's RBMG Island Def Jam Music Group, run by Tunji Balogun, but the parent company is Universal Music Group, CEO Sir Lucian Grainge; Yo Gotti's Collective Music Group CMG, owned by parent company, Universal Music Group, CEO Lucian Grainge; Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group, and distributed through Interscope Records, CEO Sir Sir Lucian Grainge (Dickon Stainer in the UK) The grandaddy of all the non black music executives is Clive Davis, the main puppet master of Diddy, and the man who launched careers dating back to the 60s, from Tony Orlando, the Bay City Rollers, Aretyha Franklin, Whitney Houston and many others up to: Justin Bieber, perhaps the highest profile troubled artist in this toxic space.

In 1964, Wendell Arthur Garrity was United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts – not yet a judge on the District Court of Massachusetts. Ruth Batson was a frustrated parent and civil rights activist – not yet director of Boston's Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity, or Metco, the voluntary desegregation program. Louise Day Hicks was a member of Boston's School Board – not yet the leader of ROAR: Restore Our Alienated Rights – and the face of white opposition to the integration of Boston Public Schools. Ten years later, they would all be major players in the battle to desegregate Boston Public Schools. As the city marks 50 years since Judge Garrity's ruling on busing, we consider the importance of the period before busing – a time expert Zebulon Miletsky refers to as Boston's ‘true civil rights movement.'
The Justice Insiders: Giving Outsiders an Insider Perspective on Government
Host Gregg N. Sofer welcomes Husch Blackwell partner Grant Leach to the program to discuss the burgeoning set of requirements and restrictions placed on U.S. businesses in connection with trade law. Gregg and Grant identify the authorities and agencies involved in trade law and the various mechanisms the regulators use to make rules and enforce them. As trade law rapidly evolves to keep pace with geopolitical developments and challenges, corporate leaders and their compliance teams have the task of managing risks that are sometimes difficult to spot, especially as they involve multiple layers of the global supply chain. Our conversation stresses the necessity of diligence and knowing your customers and vendors, as well as exploring what a “reasonable, risk-based” compliance program looks like in practice. We also discuss a key change in the statute of limitations—from five years to ten—in connection with the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions enforcement. This expansion of the lookback period has implications not just for compliance programs but could also complicate corporate transactions and the due diligence process. We conclude our discussion by addressing how the evolving trade law regime impacts smaller enterprises that might have difficulty scaling the compliance function to manage trade-based risk. In a disturbing breach of trust and legal boundaries, Candace Chapman Scott, a 37-year-old former mortuary worker from Arkansas, has pleaded guilty to federal charges related to the theft and sale of human body parts. The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Arkansas made the announcement on Thursday, marking a significant development in a case that has shocked the medical and legal communities. Scott was implicated in a scheme involving the transportation of body parts across state lines and conspiring to commit mail fraud. According to federal authorities, she was employed by a service provider contracted to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). This institution receives cadavers donated for medical research through its Anatomical Gift Program, which Scott exploited for her illicit activities. The case unfolded when Scott, using a Facebook group for enthusiasts of "oddities," contacted a man from Pennsylvania on October 28, 2021. She introduced herself as a mortician associated with UAMS, revealing that her responsibilities included the cremation of medical cadavers. During their correspondence, Scott inquired if the man knew anyone interested in purchasing an embalmed human brain, setting the stage for a series of illegal transactions. From October 31, 2021, to July 15, 2022, Scott sent 24 boxes filled with stolen body parts, including a human brain, heart, skullcap, kidneys, livers, hands, and a female pelvis with femurs, all of which she pilfered from UAMS. These parcels were transported via the U.S. Postal Service to her contact in Pennsylvania. In exchange, Scott received $10,625, transferred to her through PayPal. The FBI intervened on July 13, 2022, with a search warrant executed at Scott's residence in Little Rock. Agents discovered numerous stolen body parts stored inappropriately in boxes and trash bags. Upon being questioned, Scott admitted her role in the transactions and her method of receiving payments. As Scott awaits sentencing, the legal ramifications and the breach of ethical standards she perpetrated have ignited a discourse on the oversight of mortuary services and the protection of donated cadavers intended for scientific research. The trust placed in medical institutions by donors and their families has been severely undermined by this case, prompting calls for stricter regulations and oversight in the handling of anatomical gifts. The implications of this case extend beyond the immediate legal consequences for Scott. It highlights critical vulnerabilities in the systems intended to honor and utilize the altruistic donations of bodies for medical science. As the community and the families affected by this breach seek justice, the case serves as a somber reminder of the need for vigilance and integrity in medical and mortuary practices. Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, a co-founder and leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, has been indicted on charges of manufacturing and distributing fentanyl, with the intent of smuggling it into the United States. This indictment, filed by the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York, is the latest in a series of charges against him, which also include running a continuing criminal enterprise, murder conspiracy, money laundering, and trafficking in cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine.Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, a key leader of Mexico's Sinaloa Cartel, was recently arrested in El Paso, Texas, on July 26, 2024. This arrest marks a significant blow to the cartel, as Zambada has been a central figure in the organization's operations for decades. Alongside Zambada, Joaquin Guzman Lopez, the son of the cartel's co-founder Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, was also taken into custody. Both arrests were part of an extensive operation by the U.S. Department of Justice aimed at dismantling the cartel's leadership.Zambada has been charged in multiple indictments over the years, including those for running a continuing criminal enterprise, conspiracy to commit murder, money laundering, and drug trafficking, including the distribution of fentanyl. The latest indictment extended the charges to cover activities up to January 2024, demonstrating his ongoing involvement in cartel operations despite previous efforts to apprehend him.Authorities assert that Zambada's arrest or death could potentially trigger violent power struggles within the cartel, particularly between factions loyal to him and those loyal to Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán's sonsIn this episode we dive into the shocking news.(commercial at 7:58)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Sinaloa Cartel co-founder ‘El Mayo' taken into US custody | Fox News

They are known for their violent and aggressive tactics, and they have expanded their operations significantly, including moving large quantities of cocaine and producing fentanyl in clandestine labs.Los Mayitos, on the other hand, are the sons of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, El Chapo's long-time partner. El Mayo has groomed his sons, particularly Ismael Zambada Imperial (El Mayito Gordo) and Ismael Zambada Sicairos (El Mayito Flaco), to take over his operations. Unlike Los Chapitos, the Mayitos are seen as more strategic and business-oriented, having received formal educations and training in drug trafficking over the years. This rivalry stems from both groups' desire to control the lucrative drug trade and maintain their dominance within the cartel. The Chapitos are noted for their brutal enforcement tactics, while the Mayitos rely on their established networks and business acumen. This internal conflict has led to increased violence and instability within the Sinaloa Cartel as each faction vies for power and control. Now, with the shocking arrest of El Mayo and the circumstances surrounding that death, the situation is set to explode. The Justice Insiders: Giving Outsiders an Insider Perspective on Government
Host Gregg N. Sofer welcomes back to the podcast Richard Epstein, Laurence A. Tisch Professor of Law at New York University Law School, and Steve Renau, Husch Blackwell's Head of Thought Leadership, to discuss the U.S. Supreme Court's recent decision in Securities and Exchange Commission v. Jarkesy. The Court held 6-3 that the Seventh Amendment's guarantee of a jury trial requires the SEC to pursue civil penalties for securities-fraud violations in federal court. No longer can the SEC rely on its own in-house tribunal to secure these penalties. Although Jarkesy applies only to the SEC, the Court's reasoning could have far-reaching implications across a number of federal agencies, particularly when “the ‘public rights' exception to Article III jurisdiction does not apply.”Our discussion highlights the administrative law history that was brought to bear upon the case and how it was that the adjudication of civil penalties came to be matters before non-Article III courts. We then pivot to some of the impacts Jarkesy could have in the future, including whether the Supreme Court will take up related issues of due process in future challenges to federal agency enforcement actions. Finally, we discuss Jarkesy in light of the Supreme Court's Loper Bright decision that ended the doctrine of Chevron deference and the implications of both decisions for administrative agencies and the private businesses they regulate.Gregg N. As family and friends hold a beachside service for Mica Miller, John Paul Miller delivers a eulogy for his estranged wife at Solid Rock at Market Common. Miller seems to cry as he talks about how he tried to raise Mica from the dead. He claims he laid down with his wife about 4 times and when he took a dog tag necklace Mica had given him to the mall to get it fixed, he saw a woman wearing "Mica's dress" with the same tattoo and hair style, he calls out "Mica!" but it was her sister, thought he raised Mica from the dead. Since the first days of the investigation into Miller's death, the Robeson County Sheriff's Office has been in contact with the FBI and the United States Attorney's Office for assistance. Based on information gathered during the investigation and jurisdiction reasons, the Sheriff's office has now requested assistance from both agencies. Mica Miller's body is found in Robeson County, North Carolina, but Mica lives in South Carolina and purchases the gun near her home in Myrtle beach.
