Un tast sensorial servirà aquest diumenge per donar a conèixer la filosofia de la cosmètica circular, en una iniciativa impulsada per la Farmàcia Martínez i una empresa del Priorat especialitzada en aquest model de producció sostenible. L'activitat inclourà una cata de vins, juntament amb la presentació d'una línia de productes cosmètics elaborats a partir de les restes que queden al camp després de la verema. Segons Mireia Martínez, de la farmàcia, el laboratori treballa amb el concepte de “cosmètica circular”. El projecte recull els residus procedents de vinyes familiars i els transforma en matèries primeres per elaborar cremes, envasos i elements de packaging. Martínez destaca que es tracta d'una filosofia que va “més enllà de l'eco i del bio” i que té com a objectiu que “la nostra bellesa no li costi al planeta”. Per aquest motiu, els organitzadors han volgut plantejar una activitat que vincula la cosmètica amb una cata de vins relacionada amb l'origen dels productes. La cata, que és gratuïta, es completarà amb un aperitiu amb un cost de 10 euros per persona. L'activitat se celebrarà aquest diumenge, 31 de maig (11h), a la terrassa del restaurant Àtics.

Meet the wonderful René Barbier Meyer, head winemaker at Clos Mogador winery in Priorat, Spain. René is a winemaker who believes in being close to the land, the grapes, and juice so that he can make unique, artisan, gastronomic wines. In our interview, he shares his philosophy of winemaking, which is very similar to the way that a musician would describe making music - it is about feel, technique, and adaptation. René practices very low intervention winemaking because he wants the people to experience the wine as it was meant to be. He comes from a long line of winemakers who are French in origin, but who found their home in northern Spain, focusing on indigenous grapes and passionate winemaking. So when you look at a fine wine list, if you're in a Michelin-starred restaurant, you will start off with maybe Champagne, and then you'll have France, and then you'll get into Italy, and then, if you're lucky, Spain will come next. The good thing about that is that it makes very top wine in Spain, still very good value. Since Spain had a civil war just before the Second World War, and after that, they had a fascist dictatorship that went on till the late 1970s, they didn't join Europe until the 1980s. So during that time of the dictatorship, they were told what to farm, where to farm, how to farm it. So there was no priority about fostering a wonderful wine culture. that's only really coming in the last 40 years. Spain has just been a little bit behind, but it has to escape, because you can't survive on paying growers next to nothing, making very cheap wines.   About Sarah Jane Evans Sarah Jane is an award-winning writer. Natural wine is a growing movement in Catalonia, rooted in both tradition and innovation. With diverse terroirs and a long winemaking history, regions such as Penedès, Alt Empordà, Conca de Barberà and Terra Alta & Priorat have become hubs for natural winemakers. This week on Filling the Sink we find out what natural wine is, who is making it and why Catalonia is gaining recognition on the global natural wine scene. Producer Rafa Camps from La Natural describes the challenges of small-scale natural wine production, including climate change and spontaneous fermentation. Experts Benji Sher and Ida Mogren from the natural wine education centre SucSuc explain the philosophy behind natural wine, rooted in ethics and sustainability. We visit the natural wine restaurant Amateur in Barcelona to meet owner Marco Bolatti and chef Tomás Esmoris and discover the cuisine and aesthetic which accompany the Catalan natural wine boom and which appeal to younger, less traditional wine drinkers. It's another addition to the "Alternatives to a Fave" series! This time: Grenache/Garnacha. As an extension of the Grape Mini-series, we come up with lists of wines that lovers of a specific grape can try as alternatives. Grenache/Garnacha comes in many different forms -- as a juicy, cherry-berry standalone grape in Spain, as lighter blender in the Rhône and Rioja, in rosé and fortified wines, and as full, serious wine in places like Priorat (Spain), Châteauneuf-du-Pape (France), and Australia, where old vines make very intense wines.
