THRILLED to welcome Suzanne Vega back to the show. He has been a fan since her debut in 1985, and that longtime admiration shapes the conversation as they talk about her career, her new album “Flying With Angels,” and the current world tour. They also spend time on the film version of her one-woman show about Carson McCullers, “Lover, Beloved,” which is now available on PBS and airing this weekend. It's a relaxed, thoughtful exchange with an artist who has built a career on sharp writing and quiet power. Later, Erik Childress and Steve Prokopy join Nick to talk about the decision to keep the new Scream installment away from critics, which rarely signals confidence. They also review several new releases, including Pillion, EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, In the Blink of an Eye, and Dreams. It's music, movies, and a little industry skepticism, all packed into one lively episode. [Ep 432]

Judson looks forward to checking out the Gems and Minerals exhibit at the Natural History Museum for a Galentine's afternoon. Brian shares his thoughts on watching both “Pillion” and “Heated Rivalry” a second time. A listener who's a lawyer provides feedback on the advice given when a question about signing an NDA was posed during a recent Go Ask Your Dad segment. The Hookup of the Week is the story of an encounter that inspires the submitter to be more specific about the information he provides when meeting people on the apps so as to avoid medical emergencies. Brian and Judson are then joined by drag icon, RuPaul's Drag Race alum and reigning Mr. Palm Springs Leather, Honey Davenport! Honey talks about their entree into the leather community over the last few years, bridging the drag and leather sides of their persona, why it's important to address them as Honey, their thoughts on a return to Drag Race, their journey into adult content creation, the childhood origins of their activism and community service, and the need for mentorship in the queer community. They also tell us about the launch of their line of tights designed for the drag community, Honey's Hose, detail how they fit into the Davenport family tree, and talk about their various relationship statuses as a polyamorous person. Honey then joins Brian and Judson in responding to a Go Ask Your Dad question from a non-binary listener curious for thoughts on how to signal on the apps that Daddy and femme can co-exist early enough in a conversation to ensure expectations are set and met while keeping it sexy. For this Out Takes, we celebrated the release of two highly anticipated queer films for February that celebrate the diversity of our community, the importance of representation and the ability for LGBTQIA+ folks to tell our own stories in an authentic way while still been given the opportunity to have them out in the mainstream. First up was ‘Jimpa’, the latest film from Adelaide based writer, producer and director Sophie Hyde. Inspired by Hyde’s own life with a direct link to her gay activist father Jim, this film is a multi-generational queer family story starring award-winning favourites Olivia Colman and John Lithgow plus it introduces us to the extraordinary talents of Aud Mason-Hyde. Along with our review of ‘Jimpa’, we were delighted to be joined in the JOY studios by Sophie and Hyde where we covered a wide range of topics and themes including how this very personal story developed into a feature film, how audiences have responded to the performances and characters, plus we discuss the connection that their father and grandfather Jim Hyde had to JOY and his impact in the queer community. We then reviewed ‘Pillion’, the debut feature film from British director Harry Lighton that tells the story of Colin (Harry Melling) who lives a small, carefully ordered life with his parents until Ray (Alexander Skarsgård), the charismatic leader of a gay biker gang, claims him as his submissive. Drawn into Ray’s world of leather, ritual, and unspoken codes, Colin awakens to intoxicating new dimensions of desire and belonging and the film traces the ecstatic and uncomfortable contours of a dom-sub relationship that evolves into something far deeper – a meditation on identity, control, and the unsettling shapes devotion takes when boundaries dissolve. The post ‘Jimpa’ with special guests Sophie Hyde and Aud Mason Hyde plus ‘Pillion’ appeared first on Out Takes.
Not Psycho or The Texas Chain Saw Massacre but a secret third thing. From wiki: "Deranged (also known as Deranged: Confessions of a Necrophile)[2] is a 1974 Canadian psychological horror film directed by Alan Ormsby and Jeff Gillen, and starring Roberts Blossom. Its plot, loosely based on the crimes of Ed Gein,[3] follows Ezra Cobb, a middle-aged man in a rural Midwestern community who begins a string of serial murders and grave robberies after the death of his mother Amanda, a religious fanatic who raised him to be a misogynist. The film features a diegetic narration in which newspaper columnist Tom Simms occasionally appears and narrates the events depicted. Though based on Gein, the film's title is misleading since Gein never experimented with necrophilia (although a necrophile is also defined as having "an obsessive fascination with death and corpses.")"Also discussed: Nirvana the Band the Show the Movie, Pillion, Send Help, Sam Raimi, earwax, Letter Kenny, Canada, Bob Clark, and more. Leather, longing and love that doesn't fit the mould. This week on Geeks Out, Tamzyn goes solo (with a little buzz by the fabulous ADZ) to review Pillion, the new romantic drama starring Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling, directed by Harry Lighton and adapted from the novel Box Hill. Premiering at Cannes to strong critical response, Pillion explores vulnerability, power and identity within a queer biker subculture — not as spectacle, but as deeply human connection. Is it slow? Yes.Is it intimate? Absolutely. Is it for everyone? Probably not. But if you're open to expanding your mind and heart, this is a film worth sitting with. LISTEN NOW! Moviewallas is on YouTube! Welcome back to Moviewallas, your weekly dose of film reviews, movie news, and general banter – in theatres, on streaming, or in the back of an airplane. This week, Joe, Rashmi, and Yazdi tackle two wildly different cinematic experiences: the provocative indie Pillion and Emerald Fennell's lush, divisive adaptation of Wuthering Heights. Snack check: Mango-chili dark chocolate straight from Mexico City sets the tone – bold, unexpected, and a little dangerous. Much like the films we're reviewing. Streaming Picks – “I Can't Find Anything to Watch…” Undercurrent (Ullozhukku) – Netflix A flood traps a grieving family in this intense Malayalam drama we first saw at IFFLA. Claustrophobic, emotionally charged, and unforgettable. Triangle of Sadness – Netflix (Feb 21) Ruben Östlund's razor-sharp satire finally lands on Netflix. Gender politics, class warfare, and one dinner scene you'll never forget. Bridgerton Season 4 (Part 1) – Netflix Lavish, romantic, and gloriously anachronistic. If you're in the mood for swooning and scandal, Netflix has you covered. Pillion This one sparked serious conversation. A shy young man is pulled into the world of a dominant biker, and what unfolds is funny, uncomfortable, emotional, and surprisingly layered. Anchored by fearless performances from Harry Melling and Alexander Skarsgard, Pillion is bold filmmaking that refuses to play it safe. It's not for everyone – but it's undeniably memorable. “Wuthering Heights” (2026) Emerald Fennell brings maximalist style to Emily Brontë's classic tale of destructive love. Starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, this adaptation leans heavily into mood, sensuality, and striking visuals. We debate whether the passion translates, whether the characters earn their tragedy, and whether style can carry a story this iconic. Like, comment, and subscribe if you enjoy smart, spoiler-light film discussions with strong opinions and zero pretension.

In Pillion, a.k.a. the “gay BDSM biker movie,” a meek young man named Colin (Harry Melling) meets a handsome, broody biker played by Alexander Skarsgård who brings out his submissive side. They enter into a sub/dom relationship, but the biker remains so mysterious and withholding that Colin starts to want more – endangering the bond the two men share. They begin the show with an extensive and fascinating conversation about Emerald Fennell's ‘Wuthering Heights,' starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi (2:22). Then, they discuss Harry Lighton's delightful debut feature, ‘Pillion,' starring Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling, which they all absolutely adored (1:02:13). Finally, Sean is joined by Lighton to discuss how he approached adapting the original source material for the film, why he purposefully avoided classic biker and leather films as inspiration, and how he coordinates intimacy on screen (1:23:33). Film critic Katie Walsh joins Katey to talk about meteoric rise of Heated Rivalry stars Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, the intense fandom that's developed around them, and what their sudden stardom ought to teach Hollywood. Then Katey talks to Harry Melling about his bold and surprisingly sweet romance Pillion, which required some predictable risks — working with a first-time director, learning to ride a motorcycle — but also the unexpected terror of shaving his head for the first time. It's a party weekend! Judson prepares for a friend's bachelor party in Chicago, and Brian prepares to celebrate his husband's birthday on the Saturday, and his younger daughter's on the Sunday. They attend screenings on consecutive nights of the new movie, Pillion, starring Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling, and compare notes with one another for the first time since. Together, Brian and Judson take a seat on The Big C*nty Couch with drag queen Gina Spears and her longtime friend Mike Fails. Our recent episode on Deshaming Sluttiness inspires a listener to submit a Hookup of the Week about his competition with a friend to see who can fill the pages of their little black books faster. Brian and Judson are then joined by star of stage and screen Jason Veasey, currently co-starring in the new comedy-drama, “Best Medicine,” on Fox and Hulu. Jason talks about the joy of being on the sets of both his current show and “Only Murders in the Building,” his desire to represent gay men our age on screen as sexual beings, and the need for more depictions of queer Black-on-Black love and sex in TV and film. He also gets personal and chats with Brian and Judson about sexual comfort levels, the value he places on sex in his relationship, being in a long-term relationship without living together, reclaiming his sexuality after his HIV diagnosis, sharing the news of his diagnosis with his family, and what it took for him to realize that he's versatile in bed. Jason then helps Brian and Judson address a Go Ask Your Dad question from a listener who wants to know how he should conduct himself around his grade school-age niblings when the MAGA members of his husband's extended family feel that kids shouldn't know that gay people exist. Harry Melling is very aware his work in the new film Pillion is about as far away as he can get from his portrayal of Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter franchise. “A lot of people, they'll go, ‘Wow, Dudley Dursley's in this kinky movie.' And I don't know what to say about that.” Fortunately for Melling, critics are praising his performance as a shy man, Colin, entering the BDSM subculture through a relationship with Ray (Alexander Skarsgård). “What I loved about the story is meeting him in this brave moment of going, ‘I'm gonna give this a go.' Watching him explore what he wants.” For Melling, this role is another example of how the actor is challenging the difficulties some child actors can have moving into more adult roles. “I always knew that I wanted to do this properly. Like I was a massive theater nerd, so I wanted to do theater, I wanted to work with the great movie directors. I took steps to bridge the gap.” With Pillion, it's clear Melling is all grown up.
