Molčeči Ray bolj skrbno razporeja vsakodnevne naloge kot odmerke pozornosti in naklonjenosti, ki jih namenja Colinu, in precej dolgo se zdi, da ta nenapisani dogovor ustreza obema … Ljubezen boli, celovečerni prvenec avtorja mlajše generacije Harryja Lightona, je požel navdušenje lani v Cannesu, kjer je prejel tudi nagrado za scenarij v sekciji Posebni pogled. Izvirni naslov Pillion je izraz za sovoznikov sedež na motorju, v prenesenem pomenu pa tudi za vlogo podrejenega v gejevskem odnosu. Čeprav promocijska besedila opozarjajo na eksplicitne in sadomazohistične prvine, gre v bistvu za pretanjen psihološki esej o nadvladi in podrejenosti v ljubezenskem paru, o bolj in manj izkušenih osebah, o karizmatičnih posameznikih in »sivih miših«. Pa tudi o iskanju lastnega jaza, pristnosti oziroma identitete. Dogajalni čas je avtor iz 70. let v izvirnem romanu prenesel v sodobnost. Odlika filma je v tem, da ne zdrsne v poskus šokiranja, obsojanja ali senzacionalizma. Niti se ne posmehuje umirjenosti in utirjenosti predmestnega življenja in običajnega zakona, kar je pogosto lahka tarča satire, niti ne poveličuje robnih spolnih ali partnerskih praks. Kot uči psihoanaliza, nelagodje in zagate najdemo povsod … V enaki meri kot za scenarij, bi si Harry Lighton zaslužil tudi nagrado za režijo, od zasnove posameznih prizorov, ki nikoli niso čisto predvidljivi, do izjemne izbire in odličnega vodenja predvsem glavnega igralskega dvojca, Harryja Mellinga, ki deluje kot srnjad v soju žarometov, in nevarno skrivnostnega Alexandra Skarsgårda. Očarljivo izvirna je tudi uporaba glasbe Erika Satieja oziroma njegove Gymnopédie. Če pogledamo širšo sliko, mimo eksplicitnih prvin, gre – in to mislim brez ironije – pravzaprav za romantično melodramo. Film Ljubezen boli je globoko humano raziskovanje človeškega čustvovanja, in pravzaprav film o tem, da je težko zdržati v dosledni transgresivnosti. V tem je obenem podoben in različen od pisanja oziroma radikalne filozofije Markiza de Sada. In film se razplete celo v konservativno potrditev ljubezni oziroma nujne konstrukcije para, ki morda ni čisto običajen, spet pa ne tako zelo različen od obrazcev melodram, ki jih prinaša glavni kinematografski tok … Recenzijo je napisal Gorazd Trušnovec, bere Bernard Stramič. The phrase “toxic masculinity,” deployed ad nauseum over the past decade, now borders on cliché, but the fact that men are in some kind of crisis feels beyond dispute. Statistics on boys' prospects are bleak, showing falling graduation rates, diminished employment opportunities, and dismal mental-health outcomes. Meanwhile, the manosphere has fanned the flames of these discontents. The question of what's to be done is more pressing than ever. On this episode of Critics at Large, Vinson Cunningham, Naomi Fry, and Alexandra Schwartz consider a new wave of texts that aims to diagnose men's ills, and to offer a path forward. It's the story of a dreary wallflower of a young man who meets a biker and is carried into the world of BDSM. Kris learned a lot from this movie and enjoyed it thoroughly. It's the second story in her Ausentatious series, which asks "what if?" about sapphic partnerships among the side characters of Pride and Prejudice. Tara recommended the previous book, The Unlikely Pursuit of Mary Bennet, waaaaay back in episode 104 and came away from this one liking it more. In this story, Caroline Bingley asks Georgiana Darcy to teach her how to be a good person, and they find love along the way. The writing nails the balance between sounding period appropriate and remaining compelling for a modern audience (plus it has all the sex scenes that Austen didn't put in, but probably wanted to). The second recommendation is The Second Draft by Carrie Byrd. Tara adored this one. The only problem is, all the reasons she loved it most are spoilers! What she can tell you is that it's a later-in-life coming out story bundled with a sweet and emotional friends-to-lovers arc. The writing moved her and she thinks it'll move you too.
