Trendsetter or follower? Hollywood has made over 5,000 war films in the past 100 years. Today's episode probes whether Hollywood has been complicit in building a culture of warmongering and nationalism, whether inadvertently or by design. With a little help from our friend Krin - who has authored three books on Hollywood - and a handful of other resources, we look back over a few different eras in Hollywood and try to figure out whether the industry is holding up a mirror or influencing our feelings toward war. One thing the episode destroys is the myth that Hollywood is the cultural mouthpiece for the left. Movie producer and Hollywood veteran Dallas Sonnier joins the show to discuss his new film, Run Hide Fight. The thriller offers a controversial depiction of a young woman who survives a school shooting, with a nonpartisan but pro-gun and pro-personal responsibility message. We discuss why the movie and why his film was panned by critics yet raved about by audiences. Then, Dallas explains how typical liberal Hollywood wouldn't touch it and how he ended up working with conservative media mogul Ben Shapiro and the Daily Wire to release it. Plus, we discuss his experiences as a rare conservative in Hollywood, and why conservatives need to get involved in culture to ensure the long-term viability of right-of-center politics. Well we had tickets to see The Hunt in theaters on Sunday, March 15th, but that didn't happen! Instead we were forced to watch this controversial movie on video-on-demand. If you can remember back to August of 2019, this movie's release was delayed in the wake of the Dayton and El Paso mass shootings. President Trump got the movie abruptly cancelled when he tweeted on August 9th, 2019 at 11:44 AM: "Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate! They like to call themselves “Elite,” but they are not Elite. In fact, it is often the people that they so strongly oppose that are actually the Elite. The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country!" Finally the movie The Hunt got released into theaters on the weekend the coronavirus chaos erupted, and then the movie was quickly released digitally one week later. Was this movie racist at the highest level?! Will this movie cause liberal elites to start slaughtering deplorable conservatives?! What is all the controversy about?! The Lodgecast joins together from remote quarantined locations to debate this contentious movie. The Hunt is directed by Craig Zobel and stars Betty Gilpin, Ike Barinholtz, Amy Madigan, Emma Roberts, Ethan Suplee, and Hilary Swank.

GRP 70- On for this week's podcast is retired Army veteran, Karolyn Smith. Karolyn was an MP (Military Police) who deployed to Iraq in 2004. She'd lost some of her closest friends in combat and survived several IED explosions while on security patrols. After getting wounded during one of these explosions she got out of the Army and became a security contractor for close to a decade. Karolyn struggled with PTSD, and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) for a long time and was unable to receive the help she needed from the VA. Michael Schiltz a well-known combat wounded Marine told her about a program at UCLA called Operation MEND. Folks in Liberal Hollywood donate millions of dollars to this top tier program which take care of our warfighters with surgeries paid for, travel cost to California paid for, and continuing care post surgery all paid for and free of charge to the warfighter. Our second article has been published in the newly revamped article section on our website. Written by Gold Star Wife Alexandra McClintock. Alexandra's husband Matthew was killed in action last year in Afghanistan. Matthew is a Green Beret with multiple combat rotations and died protecting his wounded teammate. Alexandra details what it was like to learn of his death as well as some of the struggles she's faced. Here is a link to the article: http://www.globalrecon.net/articles/2017/3/14/hxi6jb8jd1j4m4g6ztc8h94udbp170 Below is an excerpt from the podcast: Karolyn Smith: Iraq was pretty bad. Everything was a daily struggle. IED's, car bombs. September 7th, 2004 my Lieutenant and I were dismounted and a sniper shot him in the face and killed him. He died right next to me. Lieutenant Tim Price with the 127th MP's. He After that you become a different person. As a woman, i had to learn to compartmentalize. April 15th of 2005 a fuel tanker transport needed an MP convoy. A shaped charge was on the back of a light pole. It blew right threw the blast shield of my SAW. I knew that there were things that were wrong, but at that point in time, i just wanted to go back to Germany. I'm trying to give one veteran something that they can use. We're all closely related because we all served. It's our oath to each other that we have to uphold. I'm open about how suicidal I was. There was nowhere for me to go. Should artists, having achieved fame, use that platform to speak their minds on politics? Opinions run the gamut: absolutely yes, absolutely no, in small doses, etc. Don't drag us through the mud or keep us aware...are either of these options an obligation of artists? Meryl Streep lit things up at this year's Golden Globes with a lengthy dissertation of her feelings on the political climate, waxing eloquent about what are now the standard criticisms of the President-elect. Some folks squirmed, some applauded. Just about everyone in the theater was delighted, not surprising given the mostly-Liberal Hollywood gang. Sound off, leave a comment. I'd love to know where you stand on this. My two favorite moments of the Globes (which I did not see in it's entirety) were the Katherine Wiig/Steve Carrell bit about traumatic experiences seeing animated films as kids and the very last line of Streep's speech, a quote from Carrie Fisher, "Take your broken heart and turn it into art. The podcast ends with my poem based on that line.
