Ben Domenech dives into the high stakes of the Super Bowl, exploring the $2 billion gambling surge and the national security risks posed by unregulated prediction markets. He is joined by New York Post correspondent Lydia Moynihan to discuss the "quality of life" collapse in NYC under socialist policies, the tragic consequences of ending forced-shelter laws for the homeless, and the ongoing media battle over ICE operations in Minnesota. The conversation shifts to the culture war in cinema with film producer Dallas Sonnier, who breaks down the making of the Daily Wire's epic seriesThe Pendragon Cycle. Sonnier details why Hollywood's "ideological bankruptcy" has created a vacuum for conservative creators and explains his commitment to practical effects over "AI slop". Ben concludes with a sharp critique of the Washington Post following a massive wave of layoffs and the shuttering of its iconic sports section.

Our guest today is Chad Sonnier, Director of the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP) for Lafayette Parish. With over four decades of service in fire protection and emergency response, Chad Sonnier brings unmatched experience to the role of coordinating disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts across federal, state, and local agencies, nonprofits, and the private sector. "I was 18 years old, hired to be in the fire service and helping people in their time of need. It is something I've really become accustomed to, and I couldn't imagine doing anything else. I mean, people call 911 at their worst time of day or worst time in their life, and, we're there to help them, that's what we're there for." Chad served as City of Scott's Fire Chief before being named to his current post. He had served with the Lafayette Fire Department for years before his appointment with the City of Scott. Over the course of his career, Chad has worked as a hazmat technician, fire engineer, fire coordinator, and hazmat chief. In 2020, he was inducted into the Louisiana Fire Chiefs Hall of Fame—a testament to his lifelong passion for public safety. “Helping people is my passion. I couldn't imagine doing anything else,” Chad Sonnier shares. A Newly Formed Office The department was officially created in 2024 by Lafayette Mayor-President Monique Boulet, who recognized the growing federal and state mandates in emergency management and the need to keep her community safe. It now operates independently of 911 services, with a broader scope that includes emergency responses to events such as hurricanes, mass gatherings like Mardi Gras, hazardous material accidents, and unexpected “no-notice” events such as train derailments. This year in 2025, for the first time, Lafayette's Emergency Operations Center partially activated its services during Mardi Gras. Agencies including fire, police, Acadian Ambulance, local hospitals, and even federal partners like the FBI and ATF, worked side by side to ensure public safety. “When you're face to face in the same room, communications are so much better,” Chad explains. Beyond Hurricanes: Preparedness in Action While hurricanes are top of mind for many residents, Chad addressed the wide range of emergencies his office addresses to help those most in need: Warming and cooling centers – Established for residents without reliable heating or air conditioning, with help from partners such as Catholic Charities, Red Cross, and even private companies like Stines, which donated large cooling fans. Volunteer organizations – Hundreds of volunteers with local nonprofits and faith-based groups (VOADs) play an essential role in long-term recovery. These groups often provide building supplies, roof repairs, and mold remediation for families still suffering from past storms. College partnerships – Student-athletes contribute required service hours by assisting disaster victims, creating meaningful community connections. Chad reflects, “I was taken aback by how many people are willing to help, especially in Lafayette Parish. If it wasn't for these nonprofits, I don't know where a lot of people would be today.” Planning Ahead and Responding Fast Chad contrasts his years as a firefighter—where speed and immediate action are critical—with the long-term strategic planning required in his current role. Chad Sonnier served as Fire Chief of the City of Scott for 23 years His office scripts hurricane responses a week in advance of landfall, but also prepares in advance for sudden emergencies that occur without warning. “No-notice events” like hazardous material spills require rapid mobilization of shelters, water, food, and safe housing, often within an hour to ninety minutes. Recreation centers, the Cajundome, and other facilities are pre-designated as shelters or reunification centers,

You can go to some of the most remote corners of Louisiana and you still won't have to look far to find a dollar store. In fact, the state has more than 650 Dollar Generals alone. A new report says the chains threaten small businesses and local economies. The Louisiana Workforce Commission shared a report last week with state legislators about the issue. Stephan Bisaha, reporter with the Gulf States Newsroom, joins Louisiana Considered to talk to us about the report and its recommendations. Also, we hear the biggest takeaways from a new poll published by the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children (LPIC). The “Louisiana Child Care Parent Poll” takes the temperature of how the childcare system in the state is working for parents of children under the age of five.  Libbie Sonnier,  LPIC executive director, breaks down the findings. Sonnier says the state needs an additional investment of $115 million over the next eight years to meet current childcare needs. And the committee preparing New Orleans to host the Super Bowl is spearheading an effort to increase the diversity of the subcontractors and suppliers who work with the big event. They're looking to open opportunities for local businesses led by minorities, women, people with disabilities, veterans, and LGBTQ community members. Chincie Mouton, director of community engagement for the New Orleans 2025 Super Bowl Host Committee, shares more about the program and how local businesses can get involved. __ Today's episode of Louisiana Considered was hosted by Adam Vos. As EV adoption grows, so too does the basic understanding of how these vehicles function. While it may still seem bonkers, EVs are managing to take us from Point A to Point B using only a few dozen moving parts, in stark contrast to the tens of thousands you may find in vehicles with internal combustion engines. As you could imagine, this ultimately leads to fewer opportunities for something to go wrong, thus saving the owner a few dollars on repairs and maintenance over the lifetime of the vehicle. However, throwing a wrench into this penny-pinching dream is the fact that the technology found in today's EVs is fairly new and generally more expensive to repair."In your typical ICE vehicle, you may have 20,000 individual and moving parts. In an EV vehicle, you may have 20 to 50 moving parts. The failure rate for those parts may be much smaller, but the cost to repair those parts is much, much higher right now," says Joshua Sonnier, vice president of product and strategy realization at insurance provider Assurant. "As with any new technology in its infancy, the cost to repair is much higher. So, from our standpoint, it actually gets you or the consumer to about the same risk profile."In this episode of The Amped EV Podcast, Sonnier talks us through reasons why an EV might find themselves at their local auto repair shop, as well as how often, and also discusses factors that drivers have to weigh beyond the sticker price when it comes to overall vehicle value. The Buzz: www.thebuzzevnews.com

Really great chat with Dane.  We discuss Galactic Cowboys and the connection with Kings X.  Dane discusses a life changing moment with Dream Theater's John Petrucci.  Their label, pushing them hard and what happened.  Also, Nirvana not only killed glam rock, but didn't do Galactic any favors with their success.  We discuss the band being in the movie Airheads and he has a great Adam Sandler story.  Leaving the band, what he did in between then and coming back to record the latest album. What's next for the band, we shall see.   --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

I have been a fan of Jeff Black's songwriting for many years. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri and grew up in Liberty, Missouri. In the 1980's Black began performing at Blayney's, a blues club here in Kansas City where he also worked as a bouncer. Jeff began touring and eventually relocated to Nashville where he re-connected with Kansas City friend, Iris Dement lending some backing vocals on DeMent's 1992 debut album, Infamous Angel). Black's own first album, Birmingham Road, was recorded with the members of the band Wilco, minus lead singer, Jeff Tweedy. Those songs have been described as "fine portraits of American life without the sappiness or self-consciousness often attributed to the singer/songwriter genre.” Sam Bush has championed him with recording many of his songs including "Same Ol' River" and "King Of The World". Jeff co-wrote the title track to Sam's Grammy nominated album "Circles Around Me". His songs appear on recordings by Alison Krauss, Waylon Jennings, Jerry Douglas, Dierks Bently, John Oates, Blackhawk, Jo-el Sonnier and the soundtracks of "The Thing Called Love" The acclaimed PBS documentary "The Appalachians" and Sundance Film Festival's Grand Jury Prize Winner "Steel City". WUMB Boston listeners voted Black one of the top 100 Folk artists of the last 25 years. His intimate live shows provide a master class in songcraft appreciation, tempo and audience interaction. After a two year pandemic induced hiatus, I was finally able to welcome Jeff back into the KKFI studios for a sit down conversation and private mini concert in support of some recent Midwest gigs. We talked about music education, or the lack thereof, the pandemic, of course, collaboration, mentorship and the value (or not) of songwriting workshops. Enjoy this musical conversation and performance with the lyrical and very talented Jeff Black.

July 10, 2012 Lubbock TX. A 911 call comes in from the affluent area of Stately Homes. The caller said there is a window broken out of her customers home. That customer was Dr. Joseph Sonnier and he was laying on the ground inside his garage...dead. Dr. Sonnier had been shot 5 times and stabbed 11 times. In a living area of the home police would find a Gatorade bottle on the floor. They quickly realized something odd about the bottle.
