For over 50 years, For the Strength of Youth has been a guide for generations of Latter-day Saint youth. I always keep a copy in my pocket, and I share it with people who are curious about our standards. It has been updated and refreshed to better cope with the challenges and temptations of our day. The new version of For the Strength of Youth is available online in 50 different languages and will also be available in print. It will be a significant help for making choices in your life. Please embrace it as your own and share it with your friends. This new version of For the Strength of Youth is subtitled A Guide for Making Choices. To be very clear, the best guide you can possibly have for making choices is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the strength of youth. So the purpose of For the Strength of Youth is to point you to Him. It teaches you eternal truths of His restored gospel—truths about who you are, who He is, and what you can accomplish with His strength. It teaches you how to make righteous choices based on those eternal truths.13 It's also important to know what For the Strength of Youth does not do. It doesn't make decisions for you. It doesn't give you a “yes” or “no” about every choice you might ever face. For the Strength of Youth focuses on the foundation for your choices. It focuses on values, principles, and doctrine instead of every specific behavior. The Lord, through His prophets, has always been guiding us in that direction. He is pleading with us to “increase [our] spiritual capacity to receive revelation.”14 He is inviting us to “hear Him.”15 He is calling us to follow Him in higher and holier ways.16 And we are learning in a similar way every week in Come, Follow Me. American Conservative University Podcast (ACU) is not an official representative for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. All opinions, selections and commentary are solely those of ACU. We are proud to have fed millions of people and provided more than 15.7 billion dollars in aid. Our faith inspires us to be an organization built on compassion, and motivated by love. Our mission is to bring relief to the poorest of the poor in the countries where we serve. We strive to reflect God's unconditional love. It's a sacrificial love that embraces all people regardless of race or religion. We believe that we can show His love by serving the “least of these” on this earth as Christ challenged us to do in Matthew 25. We pray that by God's grace, and with your support, we can continue to bring relief to the suffering and hope to the hopeless. --------------------------------------------------------

Lauren Daigle is the fastest-selling new artist in the Contemporary Christian genre of the last decade. Critically acclaimed for her unique, soulful + soaring vocals, the singer-songwriter is sincere, down-to-earth and has unwavering faith. Today, the 2-time Grammy Award winner shares how her Louisiana-roots cultivated her appreciation for music, the uplifting inspiration behind her lyrics, and how rediscovering her childlike wonder helped her find greater joy in life. Lauren also shares how she previously embraced a period of stillness amidst a whirlwind of success, how it propelled her forward into her next fruitful season + what it could mean for you during the COVID-19 pandemic. SHOW NOTES: "We're on the precipice of something extraordinary. If the whole world is still and experiencing a level of silence, great things come on the other side of those experiences." “I need to learn to love change because it is inevitable.” Lauren grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana surrounded by a culture of music, passion + creativity. Music was a formative way of learning, a way of life + a way to come out of hard, dark times. As a teenager, Lauren was homebound because of the immunocompromising virus cytomegalovirus and music became a way to stay motivated and out of depression. "Being still showed me the future." "My life experiences allow a texture, tone or an emotion to come out in my voice." After high school, Lauren helped build a church on a mission trip to Brazil. While there, she saw how religion can separate others + learned to see people for who they are versus what they believe in. "There are so many things in life that make us more alike than different." Before becoming an award-winning singer, Lauren wanted to pursue a career in doing pro-bono law for human trafficking victims. "If you're in a place in life where you have dreams, things you're hoping or longing for and they don't seem to be in close proximity, surround yourself with as much influence as you can while being diligent and persistent in the work before you." Lauren shares the meaning behind some of the lyrics to "This Girl", "Look Up Child" and "You Say". December 25, 2017: After working herself into exhaustion, and many would say at the height of her career, Lauren took close to a year off of work to "be still". Lauren relates that period to pulling back a slingshot before being propelled forward + fruitful in the next season of her life. As her world tour is on pause because of the coronavirus, Lauren again plans to get lost in the stillness to let her mind, heart + spirit be refreshed + revived. Learn more about Lauren Daigle here. You've heard it said that a person is so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good. While what this phrase attempts to communicate is understood, it is rarely the case that people are too heavenly minded. Most of the time people are too earthly minded. In this second sermon in the series "Look Up Child", discover how being heavenly minded can impact you for good and for the glory of God on Earth. Go to http://bible.com/events/7208354 for the online sermon notes.

Crisis situations can make us forget who we are, who's we are, and what we have. The same is true for Christians. In this new sermon series, learn how the ascension of our Resurrected Savior informs our Christian walks in the midst of crisis. This sermon is Part 1. We all have someone who looks up to us whether it’s knowing or unknowingly. For me, being a positive example of living a life pleasing to God is my favorite part of parenting. Showing my son the reward of obeying Gods voice, living by Faith, and doing what we’re called to do is my prayer answered. In the beginning, I tried to over compensate, considering what everyone needed from me and their access to Baby, causing me to move and/or do before hearing Gods voice! As my son turned three and we crossed over to a new decade some old habits, people, and negative thoughts couldn’t fit in our season of NEXT! So here I am striving to live a life he can mimic and be grateful to have witnessed lived, firsthand! My ideology of parenthood has shifted and I’m learning everything new. You get one chance to make a first impression and I don’t take his pair of eyes for granted! Look up child, I pray you one day realize how much I let go so God could use you to change my heart and fulfill the plan He has for our lives. —Love Mama 3

Brett Mabury is one of our favorite people. Genuine, humble, and amazingly talented. Brett orchestrated Lauren Daigle's album, Look Up Child, in 2 weeks! We talk about his journey from Australia to America, unexpected twists and turns in his story, and how he has gotten back into orchestration within the last few years. We're encouraged every time we talk with Brett and hope you are encouraged by his story. ... idiopod.com
Kambri's advice for parents going through the loss of a child: First of all, my heart breaks for you. Remember you are not alone. Jesus is with you even when you feel like he has forgotten you. There will probably be a time(s) where you are so mad at God you can’t even talk to Him. That’s okay. Just remember that He is there. When I was so mad at Him I couldn’t talk to Him, I listened to Lauren Daigle’s album, Look Up Child. It helped me remember I should be clinging to Him, instead of being angry with Him.Do not be afraid to tell people about the loss of your baby. I encourage you to at least tell one person even if you don’t want to announce publicly. It’s a lot to carry around by yourself, and getting out your thoughts and emotions is very important. For us, announcing publicly was something we felt like we wanted and needed to do. We lived in New Orleans and the majority of our friends and family members lived in Arkansas. We would have friends reach out to us, not knowing we had lost Baby D, checking in to see how it was going. It was then we realized we didn’t want to keep the loss of our baby a secret and wanted his memory to live on. That being said, everyone is different in how they grieve. And announcing publicly might not be in your path of healing. It was for us though. Disconnect from social media for a while. I had a lock on my phone that would only allow me 5 minutes of combined social media time. It’s enough to check and see if someone has tried to contact you, but not enough time to mindlessly scroll. I found this to be super helpful. Social media (a lot of the time) only shows positive things, and a lot of that for my personal feed was pregnancy announcements and progression posts about friends of mine that were pregnant. I would get so upset seeing it, not because I wished something would have happened to them instead, but just thinking why did this happen to us? It broke my heart seeing other people that were due around the same time I was. Disconnect from all of that for a little while. I pray that you have a great support system of friends and family lifting you up in prayer. We had friends and family members checking in on us daily. Even if it was just saying they were thinking about us or that they loved us. It was comforting to know that we had that great support during the worst days of our lives. Talk about what you are feeling. Whether you reach out for professional help, like talking with a therapist or a psychiatrist, or if you have someone in your personal life that you really connect with, talk it out. My husband and I were always completely honest with how we were feeling, even when it was scary and even when it was mean. Have at least one person you can be completely open about your feelings with. It’s so easy to get down and lost in a sea of sadness about losing your baby. This is totally understandable and you need to spend all the time you need to being sad. There is no rush in finding what your new normal will be. But something thing that helped me and is still helping me is to think of specific things I have to be grateful for. Specific people, specific things, specific opportunities in my life, and let them know that I’m thankful for them. Ms. Kim gifted us with a book called “Good Grief” and I highly recommend reading that as well. It’s very short and easy to read, but also very helpful. It walks you through the stages of grief, and was therapeutic for me. I shared it on social media and since sharing it, I have had two people reach out to me and tell me they got it for someone they know who is grieving. (To make it clear, this book talks about all kinds of grieving, not just grieving the loss of a child.) I highly recommend for anyone going through loss, and even for someone who is a friend or family member of someone going through loss. Kambri's advice for what to say to someone who has gone through the loss of a child:** Addressing something I said in the podcast to the effect: “I don’t like the phrase ‘it’s all in God’s plan.’” I want to make it clear that I know this is God’s plan for us, for whatever reason that is, but during the time right after we lost Baby D, that was one of the phrases people would say to us and it would just make me angry. So, if you are a friend or family member of someone going through the loss of a child, just be mindful of what you are saying to that person. The words that were the most comforting for me to hear were “You are loved. You are cared for. You are strong, even though you do not feel strong. I am here for you. I do not understand what you are going through, but if you need someone to talk to I am here always.” Special Guest: Kambri Davidson.

More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
This week's episode is in tribute to my mentor's daughter. In life and in death she inspired others to lift their faces to the One Who could save them. That's why Lauren Daigle's song "Look Up Child" inspires us to explore Scripture today. Let's dive in to some key Scriptures where God's people are called to look up and live. On this episode I discuss: Taking a B.I.T.E. out of Scripture - this week's Bible Interaction Tool Exercises include: Read and keep on reading Listen to an audio version of Scripture Share with a friend Make a list Follow the cross-references Not getting discouraged when you encounter Scripture after Scripture you've never read before...don't be discouraged, be inspired! My mom's story of God's inspiration and provision - Joshua 1:8 Doing God's work and building up the church - Ephesians 4:11-12 Looking up to the Son of Man lifted up like the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness - John 3:9-12 Following the cross-reference to Numbers 21 to see the story of the bronze serpent on a pole - Numbers 21:4-9 Remembering the warning of idolizing God's provision and worshiping it rather than God - 2 Kings 18:3-4 Additional Resources Story behind the album "Look Up Child" by Lauren Daigle - YouTube Video Chords and lyrics - "Look Up Child" by Lauren Daigle - PsalmNote.com This Week's Challenge Use this episode as a catalyst to spend more thoughtful time in the Scriptures we briefly highlighted today. Study John 3 and Numbers 21, and don’t miss the danger zone we uncovered in 2 Kings 18. Let these references to “looking up” lead us to place our faith in Christ unto salvation, and continue to place our faith in His saving power for every situation we face until we meet Him face-to-face in eternity.

In many cases, while we're praying for solutions to problems, little do we understand that we may actually be the solution to someone else's problem. God is working it all out, which is hard to believe at times, but He is.

This week's episode continues to look truthfully at the power of love and fear--and asks which power are we attaching to the consequences we're giving our children? "They say" give our kids a consequence of "no screen time." Brave Love says "screen time" isn't always love--and I don't want to give you what you want, if it's not what you need to grow up. Janet and Doug offer these BRAVE LOVE take aways: Look up, child! Your integrity is more important than your compliance. Look up, child! As a parent, I want to help you in love, not make you afraid. Look up, child! Struggle is a normal part of growing up. We need each other more than prizes--to build character in times of struggle. Join us on this episode...and to subscribe, too! We can get tangled up in trusting relationships when we use consequences to manipulate --instead of offering the love that lends strength and that separates truth from lies. Consequences may punish, but love both sets boundaries and gives our kids what they need to grow up. Doug and Janet offer these acronyms for parents helping children grow up--instead of simply comply: "A before B" Our children need love (Attention, Acceptance, & Affirmation) BEFORE they Behave or misBehave. Love offers to help--especially in the ways we know our children are weak. "T after C" Consequences happen, naturally. Brave love reminds our children about the Truth of their identity, and unplugs shame from the reality of natural consequences. "L in the middle" Misbehavior damages trust in relationships. Brave Love offers restoration in relationships. Join us in this powerful and perspective changing episode. There is great hope.
In this episode of Standing Firm, Pastor James Brown Jr discusses some erroneous doctrinal motto’s like “no creed but the Bible,” “Christianity is a relationship and not a religion,” and the idea that we need to focus on original intent to the avoidance of Scripture. Whether it is Andy Stanley’s unhitching of the Old Testament, Lauren Daigle’s “Losing My Religion,” or cultural activists focusing on a phony idea of original intent, this episode confronts the modern heretical slide into apostasy.
