Guest podcasting, teaching, & speaking are excellent approaches to your visibility strategy… And to be effective, you've gotta pitch yourself. Personally, I've received hundreds of terrible, horrible, no good, very bad pitches - and so has every other podcast host I've ever spoken with! And most pitch approaches are about sending BIG volumes for big results, but today's guest has an approach that's about sending FEWER pitches for more interviews! Let's ensure YOUR pitch is a great one with today's episode! Meet Mai-kee Tsang, who essentially gives us a master class in effective pitching today! Mai-kee is a sustainable visibility mentor, podcast guest strategist, and ICF certified trauma-conscious leadership coach. In our conversation, we explore podcast guesting on a deep level. Mai-kee shares her wisdom on what personalized outreach looks like, how to craft a personal pitch, and shares her game-changing "PR method." Her insights come from her experience and her expertise in coaching, so we were also able to discuss the mindset needed for pitching and her personal success story. One of my favorite moments was Mai-kee's story of a challenge she gave herself to write 101 personalized pitches in 30 days – spoiler alert: it's a cautionary tale with incredible lessons! Oh! One thing I almost forgot: we discussed how to manage rejection sensitivity:** It's real and it MIIIIIIGHT be holding you back, so listen in to get practical advice from a well-established expert on how to handle rejection, set boundaries, & maintain your well-being… Let's ease-ify this world of pitching and guest appearances! **You can find the resource Mai-kee refers to right here: https://maikeetsang.com/25experts Thank you for taking a moment to rate/review this podcast! Derek Minor has been in the "rap game" for a long time and over the years has made numerous albums, started a non-profit, produced albums for other artists and established himself as one of the main hosts on the Relevant Podcast (one of the most downloaded Christian podcasts out there). In recent years, Derek went through a bout of depression and took a journey of soul- searching that compelled him to seek (and find) true contentment and deep happiness. To do this, he had to face his own demons, including "daddy wounds" and hurt caused by the church. Most importantly, he had to look in the mirror with honesty. A culmination of his journey is captured in his recent album, "Nobody's Perfect." The album, full of grit, honesty, compassion and hope is the reference point of this conversation Derek had with host, Joey Svendsen. You'll hear his story through his words on this interview and through the songs on his album, which are intertwined throughout the episode. Get ready for a dose of hope, a story of perseverance and a testimony of restoration from the Most High. And hip-hop fans, get ready to bob that head. Parles vous, Post Relevantinizers! Grateful to have you return from the Dead (metaphorically speaking) to the Post Relevant Podcast. You found your miracle (or you maybe just jumped the fence) and waded into the crowd of online onlookers to grok and jibe most froogaly with the rhythmic geometries of the music emanating from the Grate Jerry! We are resurrected with episode 25, and what an episode it is! Guest host Carl Ristaino (visual artist and host of the 'Welcome to the Art Shed' podcast - you may have also heard him on PRP episodes 10 and 20) is back, and he is posted up in the legendary Art Shed to interview one of his Dionysian heroes, the Ghost of Jerry Garcia! Exclamation points!!!! How did Carl manifest such a spectral interview with the Ghostly Grandfather of the Grateful Dead?? Is he some kind of wizard, or did he just crack the right kind of can of beer open before he hit 'record?' Uh uh uh.... you'll have to listen to the show to find out.... Some questions that will get answered on this epic episode: What other famous ghosts live in the Art Shed? Is your immortal soul the size of a salamander's butthole? Why did Jerry want to buy the great pyramid? What is skaag? What was famously-afroed painter Bob Ross' relationship with Jerry's songwriting? Did Grateful Doe go to heaven? And most importantly, why does Jerry have a grudge against the French? All this and more will be revealed in this Scarlet Begonia-colored, cocaine-fueled train of an episode, all scored to the amazing live music of the Grateful Dead. You will be saying 'Far out, man' in ectoplasmic word bubbles above your own Steal-Your-Face and dancing like the Do Da Man by the end of this PRP for the ages. The Post Relevant Podcast has yet once again re-returned with the actual real and proper beginning of season 2! Episode 23 phones it in from across the seas as host Phil Ristaino is joined by his old experimental theater buddy and co-creator of the Post Relevant Manifesto Yehuda Duenyas. Yehuda is an actor, director, and intimacy coordinator who paid his dues in the NYC downtown theater scene creating wild theatrical experiences with his former company the National Theater of the United States of America. But before that, he and Phil were part of a short-lived, nearly-legendary theater group called C. and Hammermill, making radical happenings in NYC, upstate NY, and PA, eventually culminating in a 3 month stint in the mid Nineties crawling the streets of Prague in the Czech Republic with a 12 day long epic theatrical extravaganza and performing in the legendary Roxy theater. At some point in their Czech adventures, in the back of a bar in Prague in 1994, Phil and Yehuda sat down and wrote out the Post Relevant Manifesto, a Bob Dobbsian declaration to End Construction which eventually inspired the creation of this here podcast. WE HOLD THESE TRUTHS TO BE POST RELEVANT! Have a few shots of absinthe and freak out as Phil and Yehuda talk about not using husband pillows, what its like to walk on top of shoes made of triangles, how tricky it was to buy hash on a boat, why you shouldn't camp in a bush made of nettles, and, eventually, just what the hell were the two of them thinking when they dared to scribe the incendiary and quickly forgotten Post Relevant Manifesto. We find out who wrote what, sort of. All this, plus Hoody rides a bike in Paris AND talks on the phone! Ooh La La! Find out more about Yehuda by going to www.xxxyehuda.com. Happy 2023! Welcome to Season 2 of the Post Relevant Podcast. Your host Phil Ristaino here. Sync up your TV or computer or home theater with this episode, because we've recorded a watch-a-long to explain the A24 hipster-bizarro-noir "Under the Silver Lake." I know, I know, I said I was done with explaining the movie...and I am...but brother Andy and I thought it would be a cool thing to record this last gasp to ring in the new year and put the final stamp on my 21 episode explanation of this brilliant symbolist film. Honestly, I could probably do 21 more episodes just trying to get this movie right, so stop me now, before I go insane.... Season 2 of the PRP offers lots of new experiences for you podcast fans who love a full on Post Relevant 5D experience: 1. There's a new website that will be the home for the show -- www.PostRelevant.com -- its rad. 2. This show features a brand new theme song, written by Phil and guitarist/producer Allen Towbin, aka The Crawfthsmen, aka Agents of Venus. It is also majorly rad. 3. PRP merch to come in the near future. My prediction for the merch is it will be bad-rad. And bad meaning 'good.' 4. Future Season 2 episodes will have a whole new approach, ranging from serious-style real interviews with fascinating weirdos from the Arts and Esoterica to comedy-style fake interviews with actors and improvisors that still explore cool ideas like ETs, magic, other dimensions, conspiracy, you name it. And don't worry, the serious-style interviews won't be too serious. There will also be shows exploring music and music festivals, the origins of the Post Relevant Movement, live free style raps, and lots more. Every episode will still have the dense, imaginative production style you've come to enjoy from the show. I hope you will stick around and dig in to all the auditory goodness. Thanks for listening to the Post Relevant Podcast! Super-psyched to go on this whole new boogaloo with all y'all.... Support the show! No commercials means we need your help to keep making the cast. Hale Hale, hearty listeners! You have answered the sphinx's riddles, donned the Wadget, the all seeing eye, and discovered the Lyre of Orpheus, alit in the sacred temple of Abydos by the starlight of the constellation Lyra itself. As you strum the lyre's silver strings, a 7th dimensional tone turns the locks etched into the walls, held aloft by the lion goddesses Sekhmet and Bastet for centuries in living stone. Granite walls shimmer and slide, revealing the golden portal to the solar system of Vega, home of the Lion Angels. Yeah, verily, you have discovered the legendary Lion's Gate! Are you brave enough to step through? Welcome to Post Relevant Podcast Super Mega Episode 20 - The King's Chamber part 3 - Thru the Lion's Gate! This 3 hour episode is a culmination of a years worth of podcasts dedicated to unveiling the mysteries behind the film "Under the Silver Lake" and exploring the larger mythological themes to which the film alludes. Join host Phil Ristaino, along with his guests mycelium aficionado Mark Ristaino and artist Carl Ristaino (host of the podcast "Welcome to the Art Shed) as they dig up mushrooms and follow a trail of golden teachers past Hadrians Wall to forge a path through the Egyptian underworld and up into the Great Pyramid of Giza itself. Jumping off from the scene in "Under the Silver Lake" where the main character Sam is confronted about dog biscuits by the Homeless King, this episodes begins with the original song "Someday," co-written by Phil, and a reminiscence of early 80s Cheech and Chong, leading into fully-musically-scored conversations about growing Lion's Mane mushrooms, walking across England, the elegance of the mycelium underground network, panspermia, the genius of 16th century Hermeticist Gordiano Bruno, the conspiracy of Gordon Wasson introducing psychedelic mushrooms into American society in the 20th century, and Mark's adventures at Burning Man. The episode is framed by chapters 4-8 of the King's Chamber, which honor the legends of the Egyptian gods Isis and Osiris and the Great Pyramid's connection to the constellation Orion and the star Sirius. The show eventually culminates with the brand new original song "Thru the Lion's Gate" and Phil's story of his experience taking Ayahuasca. Its a super-mega-episode fit to bust and kick up the mythological dust! Follow our footprints...thru...the Lion's....Gate.... If a feather fell from a weather bell, would you wonder whether your will would be well? Or would wonder well in your whither well till your whethers wilt as your feathers filled? Do you know the answer? It takes puzzling the sphinxian riddle to cross the threshold into the King's Chamber. But cross it we do! Welcome back for the first time to episode 18 of the Post Relevant Podcast. This just might be the very most ultimates-est and super-bestest episode of the podcast ever created in three-dimensional time space! Or even in 7 dimensional thrime-space! (Thrime-space is sort of like time-space, but in in the 7th dimension...it's too hard to explain right now....) Reaching new levels of sound design and special effects, the King's Chamber is a right banger, I must say! Brother Andy returns once again to hash it out with show host Phil Ristaino, and they re-create the scene in "Under the Silver Lake" where Sam is chained to a chair in a bear cave and has to explain his way out of possessing dog biscuits to the mysterious Homeless King. You might ask, how can you make a two hour podcast about a 5 minute scene in a movie from 2018? Well, look, its possible, ok? You gotta listen to the show to find out. You should get an answer right around the 2 hour mark, keep listening.... Here's how the truths are revealed: 1. We enter the great pyramid and confront the futuristic riddle. 2. Phil and Andy make several left turns at Albuquerque as they remember Bugs Bunny's "Wackiki Rabbit," ask why brother Mark is avoiding being on the show, how Death loves showbiz in "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey," how to speak English with a bad Swedish accent, who is a hamburger and who is a hotdog, and how to effortlessly create your own foley for a podcast by banging and clanging stuff off-handedly while recording. Among other things! This beginning of the show is most non-heinous! 3. Max Flackman (aka Matt Kalman, guest from the infamous episode 13 where Phil and Max get drunk) re-emerges from the woodlands of upstate NY to respond to Phil's revelations of all the lies Oliver Stone foisted on the unsuspecting public when he released his 90s epic "The Doors." Hint - Jim Morrison never killed a duck. Gasp! That's just scratching the surface.... 4. Yet another brand new song is played, entitled "Tall Girl." Pretty self-explanatory. 5. In the decode section of the show, we talk about being pregnant in a float tank and arguing with Judge Mablean on national TV. Andy talks about the imminent arrival of his new baby. Phil explores the UTSL reddit. Phil digs into the relationship between Homeless King actor David Yow and Kurt Cobain. Phil re-investigates the Horned God/Osiris/Green Man connections in the movie. Phil and Andy re-ennact the aforementioned scene between the Homeless King and Sam. Is the truth revealed? We notice Sam's been sitting on his gun the whole time. Phil and Andy finish the episode still trying to figure out what "Hamburgers Are Love" means.... We wander across the wonderland of the body's bioelectric fields , feet like salmon zodiacs transform into the apostles and figure out how many snakes Ophiucus is holding. Welcome back to part 2 of an epic conversation with actor/producer Lloyd Booker. In this half of the conversation, Lloyd and host Phil talk almost exclusively about the short film they both appear in, "House of Brotherly Love" by writer/director Max Kane. Max has created a challenging snapshot of a wealthy Black family throwing a New Years Eve party in 2020 in their home outside of Philadelphia, and how their lives, already fractured in many small ways, become upended when the family's daughter brings home a belligerent white boyfriend to meet them. This film is a great model for sparking conversation about the struggles of racism and prejudice for all ethnicities in modern America (and the world). Lloyd has a lot to say about how to interpret and understand symbolic and controversial moments in the film and about what the film's larger implications might be. He encourages audiences to speak up about how this movie affects them, and wants us all to ask questions and engage in an ongoing dialogue about the film's subject matter. This is an intense, humorous, and wide-ranging interview, not for the faint of heart. It also comes with lots of spoilers for the film "House of Brotherly Love." I highly recommend watching the film before you hear the conversation. You can watch the 18 minute film for free on Vimeo.com right now. Just follow this link to see "House of Brotherly Love": https://vimeo.com/658954522 If you are listening to this episode on Wednesday, June 8, and you are in the Philadelphia area, you can see a live screening of the film at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival (PIFF): Date: Wednesday (6/8) Time: 7-8:20pm Where: SeraPhi Studios, 941 N. Strap in and hold on tight, Post-Relevantians! You're about to be Booker-ized! In this episode we take a detour from our investigation of the film "Under the Silver Lake" to speak to a working actor and producer from out of Philadelphia, the raconteur of Philly Cool - Lloyd Booker. Lloyd appears in the same short film as me (your host Phil), a film called "House of Brotherly Love." In episode 7 of the PRP, I interviewed the writer/director of the film, Max Kane. Lloyd heard the interview and contacted me with hot takes and in-depth interpretations about the film, so we figured it was time to have a loooong conversation on the show. Plus, HOBL is about to be screened in Philadelphia, so the planets have aligned for this epic interview. In part one, Lloyd talks about his band "Mad Man and the Mental Problems," his various musical experiences, meeting musical legends like Bruce Springsteen and David Bowie, and the time he saw James Brown play a show until the sun came up, all the while crooning some of his favorite songs live on the show. Then he tells us tales of watching Laurence Fishburne give his famous speech in Zion during the shooting of "The Matrix," smoking with Keanu Reeves in the park in NYC, and 'beating on' Charles Barkley in local Philly basketball. Next, we go into Lloyd's first acting gig - being cast as Samuel L. Jackson's stand-in on M. Night Shyamalan's "Unbreakable." He talks about the auditioning process for the film, getting his production assistant to stop traffic for him, his first meeting with Sam Jackson, and the advice Sam gave him about how to get noticed as an actor. Finally in part one, we go into his experiences acting in and producing an original award-winning film recognized by the Academy Awards called "Ageless Love." Stay tuned for part 2, dropping tomorrow, where we talk exclusively about Lloyd's expansive thoughts on the importance of our film "House of Brotherly Love." Check out "House of Brotherly Love" online here: https://vimeo.com/658954522 You can also see a live screening of the film in Philadelphia this Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival (PIFF): Date: Wednesday (6/8) Time: 7-8:20pm Where: SeraPhi Studios, 941 N. The Post Relevant Podcast episode 13, "Dog Paddling in the Deep End of the Silver Lake," has crawled its half-blind way out of the life-slime of the cement pond and is now roaming the city streets for warm-blooded crowds to consume and the tallest building on top of which to build its gigantic nest. This is a lively and strange discussion, a wild ride of a conversation, inter-splicing two talks in time, and featuring a complete musical score, with actor/writer/director/editor/woodsman Matt Kalman. Matt has been listening to the podcast and now has some insightful theories of his own to share. We talk about our past doing weird theater together, Matt's film projects, and then we go deep into his theories on "Under the Silver Lake." Plus! I get really drunk! Honestly and truly. Also! A brand new song mostly about "Under the Silver Lake" called 'Jodorowsky's House Keys.' Its time travel, I say! Quality podcasting found wherever podcasts lurk.... "There both, I thought, the eagle and myself did burn; and so intense the imagined flames, that needs my sleep was broken off." Yeah verily, dear listeners, we have arrived at the cliffs of purgatory, with nothing but stairs upward and the heavens before us! Its part 2 of my conversation with Christine Ristaino, PHD, as we explore and expand through the 2nd and 3rd segments of Dante's "Divine Comedy," in an effort to figure out if this magnificent epic has anything to do with the cryptic facilities of the film "Under the Silver Lake." Turns out, it does! It Does! And we figure it out and talk about it at length. Come with us as we lose our "p's," dream of eagles, release all seven of our deadly sins, wander through the Garden of Eden, bask in the glow of the beatific Beatrice, and arise with her through the 7 heavens (aka 7 planets) and into the eternal light of the "Prima Mobile." Its quite a lark! We discuss how the Dante's masterwork relates to the themes of "Under the Silver Lake," and even discover that Dante's journey into the Paradiso actually explains some of the final moments in the film! You will learn how the ever present moon plays a crucial role in both stories. Its sooooo cool. All this, plus a special musical surprise! An episode so special, it was written in the stars. Welcome baaaaaacckkkkkk! Put the bag back in the backpack. Put the backpack back in the back of the Cadillac! Do it! The Post Relevant Podcast is back (again), and this time we are taking an epic journey deep below the Silver Lake, as we journey into the Dante's "Divine Comedy" in an attempt to relate its mytho-poetical themes with the hidden story inside our obsession, the film "Under the Silver Lake." More specifically -- This is the first half of an epic interview as host Phil Ristaino talks with his sister, Professor Christine Ristaino, about the most tragic 3rd of Dante's story, The INFERNO. Join us as Christine describes in depth the 9 levels of Hell as told by Dante Alighieri. Witness the elegantly ironic torture of giants, demons, sinners, evil popes, bearers of false witness, adulterers, sodomites, human trees, heretics, poets, the unbaptized, Greek heroes, politicians, Biblical betrayers, and even Satan's junk, or anybody else Dante had a grudge against that week. Christine has seen "Under the Silver Lake" and insists that its strange storytelling is reflected in the frozen pond that traps the worst of souls inside the deepest levels of Dante's epic. And Phil puts her theories to the test! Will either of them be proven right? Tune in and find out! Bonus! Hear the original BackPack Battle Rap between Phil and Laurelle Rethke, featured with a video game musical score, because, well...because someone has to put the backpack back in the back of the Cadillac, and they decided to be those someones. He's the One, who likes all those REM songs, and he likes to shoot the Songwriter's gun, and he likes to call his Mom, but you don't know who he is. You don't know who he is. And I say "yeah!" The Apotheosis of Kurt Cobain is here, and with it, the revelation of Sam's true identity in "Under the Silver Lake." Its taken 10 (technically 11) episodes to get here, but we think it has been worth the ride! Strap in, tap in and get to adaptin'. We are going for an epic, nay, mythological journey, ultimately culminating with another HUGE KEY to understanding the true story hidden inside of this crazy-ass Slacker/Hipster Noir. (Slipster? Hacker? How do you combine two euphemisms two generations of young people?) First, Phil runs down Kurt C's significance to the larger story, as well as a few of a few of UTSL characters' connections to music's pop culture legacy. Next, Phil and brother Carl Ristaino (host of the podcast "Welcome to the Art Shed") have a rambling conversation about many relevant topics while freezing their butts off in the legendary Art Shed. This convo is accompanied by a full on musical score, to keep the dream and the theme of this episode alive. Good stuff! No Apologies! Last, Phil and brother Andy keep the decodes In Bloom, as Phil finally lays out his case for the real identity of Sam from "Under the Silver Lake." This is Phil's full court press to impress, and he leads off with an explanation of what the Bird Lady's parrot is actually saying, and most importantly, why the bird is saying it. Then he breaks down all the clues throughout the film that reinforce Sam's ID. Finally, Andy and Phil decode the wonderful scene where Sam discovers the map in Nintendo Power Magazine #1. There's Something in the Way this Negative Creep turns the Lake of Fire into a Radio Friendly Unit Shifter. Its Endless, Nameless.... See all Phil's acting/art/music at www.TheseAreDreams.com. Post up, Post Relevantizers! The podcast is back, and we have a few questions for you. Are you tired of worshipping a celestial being who's constantly lying to you? Denying you? Side-lining, side-eyeing, and side-winding you? Me too! It's time to slay your duplicitous deity, and what better way to slay than while listening to this episode, aka THE GODKiLLER? Join host Phil Ristaino, along with the triumphant return of brother Andy, as they engage in a bout of verbal chess to unlock more highfalutin' mysteries of "Under the Silver Lake." We climb out of the mercurial pond and follow the trail of barking dogs to keep up with our hero Sam as he feeds knuckle sandwiches to Jesus during his holy leavings, fights off the fatal advances of the Owl's Kiss, and trails 3 Shooting Stars to the Mt Olympus of the Hollywood hills where he finally confronts THE SONGWRITER. THE songwriter? Yeah, that's the one. The guy who blows his nose with Foreigner hits. Has every song we've ever loved been written by an immortal piano player with a pistol and a pissed-off perspective? Probably. He wanted it that way. But Sam has Kurt Cobain's guitar and Pete Townsend's mean windmill swing to show the old hoss who's really boss. Who says rock won't set us free? All this, and Andy reads "Ode to Joy." Plus, we hear one of the original Post Relevant songs, a little ditty called "4 Syllable Word." This episode slaps the taste out of the mouth of the gods! Revenge is a dish best served bold.... Purple tidings, Post-Relevantians! Today we are like kings making a royal decree to be different, as the podcast steps away from its regular obsession with the film "Under the Silver Lake" to talk to an up-and-coming film writer and director Max Kane. Max has created an excellent new short film called "House of Brotherly Love," and he cast your host Phil in it to play the ne'er-do-well character 'Lucas Pickering.' And it was a blast! The film is now online to be seen, so Phil and Max throw down the blueberry-colored gauntlet of conversation and talk about travel, NYC vs Philadelphia vs LA, assembling the ideal cast, filming in your parent's house, making movies with your friends, and more. Then Phil tries to understand if Max has made a film about racial injustice during the pandemic, or just about being overprotective of your kid sister. All this, and Phil reveals how he worked "listening to Coldplay on acid" into the script, and how Max figured out how to cut it out of the movie. This interview is great, and so is the movie. Check it out! You can see "House of Brotherly Love" on Vimeo, YouTube, and Directorsnotes.com, where you can watch the film and read an interview with Max here: https://directorsnotes.com/2021/12/23/max-kane-house-of-brotherly-love/ If you have a response to the film, you can contact Max at maxwellkane96@gmail.com. Grab your hats and sling your flats (stones), the Post Relevant Podcast is BACK!!! Happy 2022! We passed...a kidney stone. Well, Phil did. On January first! Is it good luck? Dare we call it...auspicious? Big things are afoot as we doggy paddle around the Silver Lake. After a month away, episode 6 has finally dropped (like a stone to the bottom of a lake?) (too many stone metaphors, sorry). Here's how we rock (sorry) the pod: 1. Phil welcomes you to 2022 and tells the harrowing tale of painting a house and purging a crystal pill. 2. Phil drops (sorry) a killer new tune based on REM's "What's the Frequency, Kenneth," which, as we all know, is featured in UTSL. It's a rap song called "The Frequency is This." It officially bangs. 3. Phil and Andy discuss if William Shakespeare was and enlightened master, or just that bastard Francis Bacon. 4. Phil and brother Andy dip back into the next killer section of Under the Silver Lake, specifically, two major scenes: The scene where Sam decodes the song 'Turning Teeth' and the scene where Sam meets the Homeless King. We explain why the Bird Lady is window washing, admire how the movie demonstrates what inspiration looks like, marvel at Shooting Star #1's effortless exposition style, and reminisce with Topher Grace about how any moron could just look behind a rock (sorry) and find a new mystery. Also, can you solve a mystery by jerkin' it? 5. Finally, we rub Dean's head and stand under Newton until the Homeless King appears, which causes Phil to drop (sorry) a MAJOR DECODE, explaining what the sequence of Sam meeting the HK and wandering through the tunnels into a 'bomb shelter' and, finally, drinking milk, really means. You won't find this information anywhere else! All this, and the 2 brother's mother makes her debut on the cover image of the episode, hobnobbing with James Dean's head itself. Oh, and Osiris's phallus makes its debut, too. Come with me! Its old music night at the Crypt Club! Welcome back to the Post Relevant Podcast. You've arrived at episode five. Imagine that. No, really, imagine it. Are you imagining it? Its another Under the Silver Lake decode banger, as we descend into the LA underworld with our perplexed protagonist. The episode starts off with Phil telling a successful D&D story (drugs and dancing). Then we take a left turn and interview artist and liminal space dweller Anna Tanner in an attempt to understand what a thoughtful-artsy-type lady might think of this lewd movie. Finally, Phil and brother Andy wade into the Silver Lake where they eat all the cookies and follow all the balloons across the glamorous graveyard and down into the hipster mausoleum, eventually dancing the metaphorical Watusi in Batman's disco. Questions asked: Does anyone in this movie give a shit about anything? Do skunks and weed have different smells? Do you like the movie? (I'm talking directly to you). Do we have to call Topher Grace "Bar Buddy," or can we still just call him Topher Grace? What is the actual gosh darn Frequency, Kenneth? And finally, can you call sleeping off a hangover in front of Janet Gaynor's grave 'working?' I say YES. But who am I...? You only get one chance to enjoy your body, and this is that one chance! It's time to make it with the Balloon Girl, or puke trying. May the best Kurt Cobain cosplayer win! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/post-relevant999/message
Happy Moon Day, post-relevantites! Welcome to a very special episode of the PRP. Today we reveal a very important piece of the "Under the Silver Lake" puzzle, a pivotal key to understanding the real meaning of this movie. If you had to listen to only one episode of this podcast, THIS SHOULD BE THAT EPISODE. But please, don't do that. Listen to them all. Maybe...uh...listen to this one twice? It's that big a deal. On this episode, Phil gives his Moon Day Manifesto in the form of a musical story about an unusual encounter with the Moon herself. Then Phil and brother Andy dive into why the moon is so important to overstanding "Under the Silver Lake." No more shall be revealed in this episode description, the price of revelation is far too high.... Find out more about Phil at www.TheseAreDreams.com and contact him @philristaino on Facebook and Instagram. Find out more about Andy at www.AndyRistaino.com. Welcome back, toe-dippers! Ready to paint your toenails silver? The water's sooooo refreshing! Its time for more "Under the Silver Lake" deep dives with the Ristaino brothers Phil and Andy. In this episode, we lead off talking about broken third eye management while attempting to relate to Sam's fractured psyche. Then we get into decoding the next section of the film, where we discuss 'good puking,' Sam's magic TV remote control, insightful media analysis while bathing in tomato juice, and the glamour of auditioning in some shmoe's garage. And of course, we ask that important question: Why is Vanna White so angry? We also head over to the the conspiracy cartoonist's house, where we call bullshit on Christopher Columbus while we peep the life masks, the Cult of the Whale, hobo codes, subliminal ads, and the orgy of evidence of the Owl's Kiss conspiracy all over this well-adjusted man's walls. Favorite headline? "Headless Man in Topless Bar." Oh, you think that's weird? Find the Spacestones in your crawlspace, its a great time for a cold beer on a hot day! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/post-relevant999/message
So, you've come back to stare into the depths of the Silver Lake? Fingers gripping the fence as you try to understand the ever-shifting facets of this mercurial pool. You've left a dog biscuit and lit a candle, now you're hoping for some inspiration.... On this episode of the Post Relevant Podcast, Phil and brother Andy spend the whole time trying to find a foot hold on the rocky shores of their brains in an effort to 'get' just what the hell the film "Under the Silver Lake" is trying to say. Listen to them ask dumb questions and toss out theories like idea-frisbees to the ghosts of good dogs roaming this infamous LA reservoir. Listen as they puzzle their way through the puzzling actions of slacker Sam aka the nameless one while he feeds nutritious eggs to children, slithers into empty apartments to sniff for clues, and runs that weird run with his arms at his sides after three brides in a rabbit across the Echoing Park and into shallows of Purgatory itself. The bros spend some quality time lurking around this underground party, but do they use it wisely? Throw your pins away, the balloon girl is dancing! She's dancing! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Hey! You've found the Post Relevant Podcast Episode 1, with your host, Phil Ristaino. We are standing across the street from that strangely poetic Silver Lake over there, trying to look nonchalant as we glance at our retro copies of the Post Relevant Manifesto. Don't want to draw any undue attention while we're trying to decipher this mystery. And decipher we do! Here's how it all plays out on this magnificent first episode of the Post Relevant Podcast: 1. Phil welcomes us to the podcast, defends his initiative, and lays out the skinny as to the sequence of events. 2. A strange and gnarly, tripped out tale of high adventure unfolds as our intrepid host journeys about Prague, leading to.... 3. ...The invention of the Post Relevant Manifesto, which is read aloud for the first time in 25 years. Shield your eyes! 4. Also for the first time in 25 years -- we hear the original demo of the song "Prague" by Phil's old SF band, the Globs. Shield your ears! 5. Finally, we dip a toe into the Silveriest of Lakes, as Phil and his brother, artist Andy Ristaino, dig into, tear apart, and reassemble the deeper meaning of David Robert Mitchell's 2018 masterpiece "Under the Silver Lake." This is the first in a series of conversations as the two bros attempt to unlock the secrets and solve the cyphers of this esoteric hipster noir. A mystery a minute! More interpretations than you can shake a skunk at! Bark once if you know what that damn bird is saying! Turn your teeth and shoot for the stars, Soda Pop, its swimmin' time! Hey! Welcome to episode zero of the Post Relevant Podcast, with your host Phil Ristaino. This is a brand-spanking-new podcast created by actor/artist/musician Phil as a way of celebrating the rebirth and imminent demise of the nigh-eternally defunct Post Relevant Movement, a movement for the End of the End of Time. It's just a joke, really. The Post Relevant Podcast is an optimistic excuse to explore Phil's interests in film, art, music, symbolism, interpretation, the esoteric and occult, conspiracy, spirituality, extra-terrestrial and astronomical ideas, the surreal and absurd, lost histories and future mysteries, and whatever else lurks in the periphery of his cosmic eye. Hopefully this podcast will, somehow, be entertaining for whosoever ears stumble upon it. Show notes for episode zero: 1. Introduction (featuring the Post Relevant Movement theme song, written, recorded and produced by Allen Towbin and Phil Ristaino. 2. Phil greets the listener, waxes semi-poetically/semi-pathetically about our train wreck of modern times, and, eventually, he cries. 3. Phil presents a recent recording of his acapella interpretation of the song "Piece of Dirt" by They Might Be Giants. 4. Phil talks about his fascination with the hidden alchemical story inside the 2018 film "Under the Silver Lake," written and directed by David Robert Mitchell. 5. Phil and his brother, animator and comic artist Andy Ristaino have a conversation about their love of the film "Under the Silver Lake," and prime the listeners for the epic upcoming series, where they launch an exhaustingly detailed investigation and interpretation of the the film "UTSL." They hope and pray that you, the listener, will follow them as they strive to discover what mysteries swim cryptically beneath the surface of the most silvery of lakes. 6. We finish the episode with a special treat, as Phil plays you the entire Agents of Venus song "The Post Relevant Movement." Find out more about Phil at his websites: www.TheseAreDreams.com and www.PhilRistaino.com. You can contact Phil @ PhilRistaino on Facebook or Instagram. Find out more about Andy Ristaino at his website www.AndyRistaino.com Check out the album "Boduvt" by the band Agents of Venus at https://agentsofvenus.bandcamp.com or on Spotify. Look out for Episode One of the Post Relevant Podcast, where we launch our multi-part, in-depth investigation and interpretation of the mysterious and brilliant film "Under the Silver Lake," plus more about the origin of the Post Relevant Movement herself, and more music and funny shit, too. In this episode of the Think and Grow Rich Classic by Napoleon Hill, Mike Aikins narrates Chapter 13 The Brain. According to Hill, the brain is a broadcasting and receiving station for thought, and is the twelfth step to riches. Hill makes note of the more than 14 billion nerve cells that are arranged in definite patterns within the cerebral cortex of the brain. He also explains how telepathy and clairvoyance are really the same phenomena that one can be gifted with as it relates to the enormous potential of the human brain. It has often been said that we only use 1/10 of what our brains are really capable of creating. Jesse Carey is a journalist, podcaster, and an avid sports fan. As you’ll hear in the interview, Jesse has great memories of his childhood collection, but has not yet returned to the hobby.
