For over 50 years, For the Strength of Youth has been a guide for generations of Latter-day Saint youth. I always keep a copy in my pocket, and I share it with people who are curious about our standards. It has been updated and refreshed to better cope with the challenges and temptations of our day. The new version of For the Strength of Youth is available online in 50 different languages and will also be available in print. It will be a significant help for making choices in your life. Please embrace it as your own and share it with your friends. This new version of For the Strength of Youth is subtitled A Guide for Making Choices. To be very clear, the best guide you can possibly have for making choices is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the strength of youth. So the purpose of For the Strength of Youth is to point you to Him. It teaches you eternal truths of His restored gospel—truths about who you are, who He is, and what you can accomplish with His strength. It teaches you how to make righteous choices based on those eternal truths.13 It's also important to know what For the Strength of Youth does not do. It doesn't make decisions for you. It doesn't give you a “yes” or “no” about every choice you might ever face. For the Strength of Youth focuses on the foundation for your choices. It focuses on values, principles, and doctrine instead of every specific behavior. The Lord, through His prophets, has always been guiding us in that direction. He is pleading with us to “increase [our] spiritual capacity to receive revelation.”14 He is inviting us to “hear Him.”15 He is calling us to follow Him in higher and holier ways.16 And we are learning in a similar way every week in Come, Follow Me. Thanks to our faithful donors, we are able to provide food, housing, healthcare, education, fresh water, emergency relief, micro-enterprise solutions and much more. We are proud to have fed millions of people and provided more than 15.7 billion dollars in aid. Our faith inspires us to be an organization built on compassion, and motivated by love. Our mission is to bring relief to the poorest of the poor in the countries where we serve. We strive to reflect God's unconditional love. It's a sacrificial love that embraces all people regardless of race or religion. We believe that we can show His love by serving the “least of these” on this earth as Christ challenged us to do in Matthew 25. We pray that by God's grace, and with your support, we can continue to bring relief to the suffering and hope to the hopeless. --------------------------------------------------------

And even as we anxiously watch that arrow in flight and know all the evils that can deflect its course after it has left our hand, nevertheless we take courage in remembering that the most important mortal factor in determining that arrow's destination will be the stability, strength, and unwavering certainty of the holder of the bow.” - Jeffrey R. Julie Cluff is a full-time entrepreneur, Build a Life After Loss podcaster, hope giver, life coach, grief recovery specialist, and artist—but not always in that order. She’s a wife to a wonderful husband who brings the fun. She is currently serving in a stake primary presidency, and has served as young womens president, Relief Society counselor, primary counselor and stake public affairs director. Julie is the mother to six beautiful children including two angels and a spectacularly young and vibrant grandma. She shares her story of the loss and grief of her two youngest children in a car accident on Mother’s Day and her transformation to bring hope to others who are grieving. She believes powerfully in the human spirit and the ability for all to rise from the ashes and create beauty. Highlights 3:55 - Julie’s Background Felt compelled to support others who experience loss and grief after significant personal losses: brother died by suicide, divorce, and two children died in an automobile accident 5:20 - Recounting automobile accident Our lives were changed forever We have had things we have had to overcome because of the accident Healing from our Savior is available 10:20 - How she processed and moved forward post-loss It is a long process and not an overnight experience Painful experiences and discomfort led to healing (the weight and heaviness of the darkness began lifting) Healing happened when the timing was right for her to appreciate what the Savior did for her Everyone’s healing doesn’t come in the same way or instantaneously She was given a unique and miraculous experience so that she could testify of healing and where it comes from Ultimate healing comes from the Savior 15:45 - The difference between grieving and healing Grief is the path to healing, it is part of the solution not the problem Grief is the pain we experience that tells us we have experienced an emotional injury and we need to take care of it 19:05 - The process of grief and healing Emotional pain is painful for those around us, we want everyone to be okay Trust the process of grief and healing and do not rush it 21:15 - Getting trapped in the grief cycle Going online to find support can contribute to getting stuck in our grief and pain Richard G. Scott - It is crucial that we be active participants in our healing Most of us know very little about grief and the process or effort required to heal We grieve and then we pile on shame and guilt as we don’t know what to do As a leader, the challenge is to honour their grief path and the pain they’re experiencing 25:55 - We’re not responsible for someone’s healing but we can be there to support Support looks like accepting the pain Sympathy = more pain Empathy = that must be so hard Instead of telling the person what they need, ask them how you can support them in their healing process 27:50 - Show up and answer their questions Our presence says I love you and I care about you No need to fear saying the wrong thing, we don’t have to have the right words 35:10 - Avoid overreacting to their emotions and concerns Everyone’s reaction to grief is unique and different and we should not judge or dictate their healing Whey they ask questions, that’s when we get to answer their questions rather than asserting information 41:05 - Don’t be overwhelmed trying to say the right thing The overwhelm comes from thinking that somehow we can make it better or that there is the perfect thing to say (and there isn’t) Just show up and it will become more comfortable the more willing you are to sit with the discomfort 46:10 - Set up a support structure Coordinator efforts to address both the emotional needs and the physical needs 50:45 - Being sensitive to the ongoing impact of grief The emergency situation vs. the ongoing impact of grief and loss The ongoing impact is where the spiritual support is most needed

A heads up - we discuss sexual themes in today's episode that features an interview with Craig Call, the bisexual grandson of Richard G. Scott. Find out what it's like to grow up with a member of the Quorum of the Twelve. We also discover Craig's love for languages, his interest in pornography and consensual non monogamy. Possibly not what grandpa had in mind. Welcome Craig! Music provided by Purple Planet: https://purple-planet.com.
The remaining portion of my interview with Dave and Christine about their healing and growth from pornography. “Satan has become a master at using the addictive power of pornography to limit individual capacity to be led by the Spirit. The onslaught of pornography in all of its vicious, corroding, destructive forms has caused great grief, suffering, heartache, and destroyed marriages. It is one of the most damning influences on earth. Whether it be through the printed page, movies, television, obscene lyrics, vulgarities on the telephone, or flickering personal computer screen, pornography is overpoweringly addictive and severely damaging.” Richard G Scott. Statistics: Over 40 million Americans are regular visitors to porn sites. The average visit lasts 6 minutes and 29 seconds There are around 42 million porn websites, which totals around 370 million pages of porn. The porn industry's annual revenue is more than the NFL, NBA, and MLB combined. It is also more than the combined revenues of ABC, CBS, and NBC. 47% of families in the United States reported that pornography is a problem in their home. Pornography use increases the marital infidelity rate by more than 300%. Eleven is the average age that a child is first exposed to porn, and 94% of children will see porn by the age of 14. 56% of American divorces involve one party having an “obsessive interest” in pornographic websites . 70% of Christian youth pastors report that they have had at least one teen come to them for help in dealing with pornography in the past 12 months. 68% of church-going men and over 50% of pastors view porn on a regular basis. Of young Christian adults 18-24 years old, 76% actively search for porn. 59% of pastors said that married men seek their help for porn use. 33% of women aged 25-and-under search for porn at least once per month. Only 13% of self identified Christian women say they never watch porn – 87% of Christian women have watched porn. 55% of married men and 25% of married women say they watch porn at least once a month. 57% of pastors say porn addiction is the most damaging issue in their congregation. And 69% say porn has adversely impacted the church. Only 7% of pastors say their church has a program to help people struggling with pornography. “Thoughts, impressions from the Spirit, enlightenment, new understanding, or revelation, however, you describe your experience, pay attention to it, and write it down.” -Elder Richard G. Scott,
Is what I'm feeling the Spirit? How do I know when I'm feeling the Holy Ghost? Mormons talk about 'feeling the Spirit' quite frequently. Mimi points out that an important thing to recognize is that God speaks to us through the Spirit, so it's ever important to recognize the Spirit. David said that he isn't always able to recognize when he IS feeling the Spirit but he always recognizes when he is NOT feeling the Spirit. While some people have experiences of feeling the Spirit intensely, many others feel the Spirit quietly. He often feels the spirit in retrospect. Elder Richard G. Scott said, "The Holy Ghost communicates important information that we need to guide us in our earthly journey." If you are living the best you can, you can trust that you will be inspired (though you might not realize it until afterwards). April 27-May 3 Elder Richard G. Scott said, “Help from the Lord always follows eternal law. The better you understand that law, the easier it is to receive His help.” The chapters that we are studying in this podcast demonstrate just that.
Intuition. You know that time that you knew that something was off? You were right and your body knew it. *This episode is appropriate for anyone with a loved one who struggles with addiction. This includes alcoholism, drug abuse, gambling addiction and more. Let’s explore together about what intuition is and how to cultivate it. When I first began recovery from sexual betrayal, I would only make boundaries based on what I could prove. I have a dear recovery friend who taught me that betrayal trauma recovery becomes richer when we can make boundaries based on our gut instinct, or intuition. She was right and learning to do that drastically changed my life. The trick is that when addiction, sex addiction, porn addiction, etc is involved, we likely don’t have all of the facts. That’s where intuition comes in. While boundaries help protect us, when we are better in tune with our gut, we can make better boundaries. In fact, we can get to the point where we make boundaries that aren't based on what we see or hear for the most part. We can make them based on gut instinct. In this podcast, we will discuss 5 principles to strengthen gut intuition. How Faith Is Helpful With IntuitionLearning To Be StillCheckout It Out With PrayerLearning To Hear What Your Body SaysGaining knowledge Next week we are talking about finding your voice and how to use it so that it is heard. Today we continue into Isaiah 13 where we look at the consequences of the pride that was discussed yesterday. We consider how these can mirror into our lives and what we can see every day to identify where we're at in our personal pride cycle. Spencer V Jones: At times, consequences of sin may appear to be very subtle to the sinner. We may even convince ourselves . . . that no one will be able to detect our sins and that they are well concealed. But always to our Heavenly Father and often to spiritually sensitive leaders, parents, and friends, our sins are glaringly apparent. While attending a youth fireside with Elder Richard G. Scott, I noticed five youths scattered among the congregation whose countenances or body language almost screamed that something was spiritually amiss in their lives. After the meeting, when I mentioned the five youths to Elder Scott, he simply replied, ‘There were eight.

For some, the greatest stresses and worries in life come from external temptations; for many others, the internal temptations to doubt, disparage, and discourage can be the most damaging. In this episode we study Jesus' wrestle with these kinds of temptations in search for how we, like Him, can stand strong. Show Notes J. Reuben Clark, "The Charted Course of the Church in Education." 1 Nephi 16: 11-32 There is so much more to this set of scripture than just the info that Nephi broke his bow. We can learn from him a pattern in which we can more successfully respond to afflictions. How can we develop the faith and character that Nephi possessed? How can we develop the faith and character that will help us to weather opposition, help us choose our responses, help us tap into our ingenuity and be solution focused, help us avoid failure by taking action, and help us set everything back in its rightful place by Returning to God? This week's podcast will give ideas on how to achieve all of this. I also recommend reading this talk by Elder Richard G. Scott. Hey ADDers! As adults, we need certain capabilities to succeed in life - this success being things like responsibly raising children, getting and keeping a job, managing a household and contributing to our communities. Without these capabilities, our successes are iffy at best. If you know that you're missing Executive Function Skills and Strategies, like Initiating, Planning, Organizing and more, then this episode is for you!! That’s what Dr B's work in the world is really about, and she so want that for you, if you want that too. You’ve heard her say many times that you are more than your ADHD; that you are a precious “human being” – even if the “human doing” part of you needs some work and tools. By identifying the root cause issues, and addressing them, whether that means learning skills, strategies or facing and resolving long-standing problems, you can look to a future where you too are Living Beyond ADHD.
