Blanco, Todo bien. A third generation skydiver with an origin story stemming all the way back to World War II, Luke Aikins was literally born to be a skydiver. Growing up surrounded by skydiving in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, he had always known that his future would undoubtedly take place in the sky, but even back then he could have never predicted the amazing career he would carve out for himself. Both behind the scenes and up front for some of the most iconic stunts of our skydiving generation, Luke, his family and all his team mates and collaborators put one hundred and ten percent into every project that he takes on, and it shows. With RedBull helping to make even the most intricate and outrageous plans come to fruition, there's no doubt that the Lunatic Fringe has an ambassador for his as well as future skydiving and aviation generations to come.

Episode 119 The Flight Safety Detectives take on two recent events where pilot stunts led the FAA to revoke their pilot certificates. Pilots are counted on for solid decision making and judgement. The FAA found that pilots failed in their duty to fly safely. The FAA took the action when pilots Andy Farrington and Luke Aikins conducted a stunt for Red Bull that had been denied. In the other incident, Trevor Jacobs was penalized for staging a crash. Greg, John and Todd share insight into where these pilots went astray. They talk about ways that they could have gotten online attention without jeopardizing safety. “In the aviation industry we work to make every flight safe” Greg says. “These guys threatened aviation safety for no good reason.” The detectives support the strong message sent by the FAA actions.

Both of these elite athletes use a goal hack called Narrow Focus to achieve their goals, and according to New York University professor Emily Balcetis, you and I can use that same strategy to reach out goals as well. Using this "narrow focus" hack not only helps us reach the finish line faster while exerting less energy, we also feel like the finish line is closer when we use this. Luke Aikins hasn't done it all in the air, but he certainly has an impressive resume when it comes to aerial feats. In this week's podcast, Aikins talks about some of his accomplishments, most notably his nationally televised jump in 2016 when he became the first skydiver to land safely without a parachute (3:00). He's had over 20,000 jumps, but his next one promises to be nothing short of amazing. He talks about that upcoming event he calls, Ghost Rider (13:00), which is scheduled for a national broadcast next spring.  It involves two airplanes nosediving without pilots, but we'll let Aikins take it from there. His star is rising in Hollywood, too. Aikins talks about his work as a stunt coordinator for an upcoming superhero movie, as well as his work on Iron Man 3, Godzilla and as an aerial photographer on Fast and Furious 7 (24:30). This third generation skydiver talks about the fastest growing part of the sport - wingsuits (28:20). Aikins has met some of the best in the business, including Travis Pastrana (31:00) - two guys who have endless stories of thrill rides. High performance psychologist and thought leader, Dr. Michael Gervais, joins The BRINK OF MIDNIGHT Podcast with John Brenkus.   What is greatness? What is mastery? Today's guest, Mike Gervais, has spent a career helping people, especially elite athletes, coaches, business leaders, and organizations achieve their absolute best. He's worked with the Seattle Seahawks, Pete Carroll, Kerri Walsh Jennings, Felix Baumgartner, Luke Aikins, among many others. His fascination with what he calls the "razor's edge" is contagious and he reminds us how essential it is to find what that means for us in terms of developing our unique minds, ability to focus, and approach to organizing our days.   Mike helps us dismantle the idea of simply "doing more" as a measure of success and breaks down what it means to cultivate happiness and meaning in every moment. He believes there is equal power in every moment and that we can either pay attention to the "noise" of life around us or develop an orientation to our unique "signal".   We peel back the layers and psychology of social media in terms of it's dangers and our unpreparedness as a society when it comes to the temporary pleasures and darkness that can come from how we engage with it.   We talk about thoughts, their weight, origin, and impact, and how our thoughts can help shape our collective human experience. We dive into the details and impact of brain waves, creativity, letting go, and re-centering.   Both being family men, we also tap into the struggle of creating equilibrium as a parent, professional, and game changer and playing all roles equally or in the most impactful and fulfilling way.   This episode is so chalk full of wisdom and insight that you can implement into your life today…right now. Luke Aikins plummeted from 25,000 feet above the desert landscape of California's Simi Valley without a parachute, landing squarely in a 100 feet x 100 feet, two-tiered net set up to catch him. He nailed the landing at 120 mph -- terminal velocity, solidifying his position as a Total Brock.
