Ходя по магазинам, где уже во всю торгуют новогодними украшениями и подарками, поймал себя на мысли, что слушая альбом саксофониста Jimmy Greene, у меня создается впечатление праздника. Особенно первая композиция явно новогодняя. Он не надоедает, а радует, когда включаешь его еще раз. Слушаю я его давно, в коллекцию добавил пару месяцев назад и только сейчас решил задокументировать свой отзыв в виде подкаста. Какие мы есть сейчас - As We Are Now можно назвать дебютом, потому, что он был выпущен на собственном лейбле автора Greene Musics Works. Вот немного истории.В 2012 году во время стрельбы в начальной школе Сэнди Хук в Ньютауне, штат Коннектикут, вместе с 25 другими учениками застрелили его дочь и музыкальное вдохновение вернулось не сразу. Он записал пару альбомов Beautiful Life, посвященных этой трагедии и был номинирован на GRAMMY. Предыдущая его запись вышла так же на Mack Avenue в 2020 году While Looking Up - Глядя вверх, и благодаря ей, он получил грант по программе New Jazz Works, финансируемой Благотворительным фондом Дорис Дьюк в 2023 году. Это послужило поводом для сочинения титульной композиции для записи этого альбома и создания своего лейбла.Источники вдохновения для альбома многочисленны и разнообразны, но они не кажутся разрозненными. Басист, композитор, аранжировщик, продюсер и руководитель Christian McBride вновь собирает свой удостоенный премии GRAMMY биг-бэнд для продолжения альбома 2020 года For Jimmy, Wes & Oliver, который есть на моем канале в числе других его работ (все указаны ниже). Новый альбом Without Further Ado, Vol. 1 - Без дальнейших церемоний включает в себя незабываемые аранжировки джазовых стандартов с участием приглашенных вокалистов, которых может собрать только Кристиан: Sting, Andy Summers (гитарист The Police & The Animals), Jeffrey Osborne, Samara Joy, José James, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Dianne Reeves и Antoinette Henry. А так же, одна инструментальная композиция лидера, с очень интересным названием Op. 49 - Cold Chicken Suite, 3rd Movement. Esta semana, dedicamos una nueva sesión de Rebelión Sónica a la destacada banda del jazz estadounidense The Bad Plus, con música de su nuevo disco “Complex Emotions” y de “Prog” de 2007. Lanzado por el sello Mack Avenue el 08 de noviembre, “Complex Emotions” es el segundo disco de la agrupación en formato de cuarteto tras ser por largos años un trío, con los fundadores Reid Anderson en bajo acústico y sintetizador y Dave King en batería y sintetizador, más el guitarrista Ben Monder y el saxofonista Chris Speed. Según el texto de promoción, la banda ha dado un paso audaz con “Complex Emotions”. Después de 21 años de redefinir su sonido, los miembros fundadores decidieron expandir la banda, lo que ha permitido “desbloquear nuevas posibilidades creativas, que son completamente investigadas en “Complex Emotions””. El título del álbum, extraído de una frase utilizada durante mucho tiempo por Anderson y King, refleja las amplias exploraciones musicales que han determinado el viaje de la banda. Великолепный подход пианиста и композитора Christian Sands к популярной праздничной классике проявился в новом альбоме Christmas Stories - Рождественские истории. Я обозревал его предыдущий релиз Be Water 2020 года, который получил признание критиков и был номинирован на Грэмми. Аранжировки этого альбома имеют глубоко джазовые и современные интерпретации рождественских пьес. Например Тихая ночь вовсе не тихая, а довольно джаз-роковая, благодаря гитаристу Marvin Sewell. А традиционная песня God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, которую обычно поют оперным хором, исполнена в зажигательном латиском стиле с великолепным перкуссионистом Keita Ogawa. Особенность этой записи в том, что здесь половина вещей написаны специально для Рождества и имеют яркий джазовый характер. То есть, это для людей, кто хорошо разбирается и любит крутые импровизации, а не просто легкий джаз. Композиция The Gift попадает в мой плейлист, как лучшая на альбоме, а в плейлист xMas JAZZ добавлю финальную пьесу Last Christmas. И не ищите в ней связь с хитом Джорджа Майкла. Это новая вещь молодого джазмена, исполненная с камерным струнным квартетом. Два года спустя, блюз продолжает быть в центре его внимания, на новом альбоме  Continuance - Продолжение. Композиция Blue (открывает альбом) во многом вдохновлена ежедневным наблюдением за водой. Вода - это своего рода отражение неба, именно таким, каким я его вижу. Но это нечто большее. Здесь речь идет и о музыке. Мне нравиться связывать слово Blue с блюзом. Я не буду называть это стилем, но это форма выражения. Мы часто слышим его в кантри, рок-н-ролле, и, конечно же, это одна из важных составляющих джаза. Блюз связующее звено и он действительно  является центром притящения и силы. Эпохальная баллада I Can't Make You Love, которую пела Бонни Райт на альбоме 1991 года пропитана блюзом. Бонни Райт такая удивительная душа; то, как она поет, как она спела песню, просто потрясающе, - говорит Джои. Я очень рад, что нашел песню, которую могу включить в свой репертуар, поскольку она стала частью меня. Несмотря на то, что это инструментальная вещь, но люди, слушая песню, услышат и текст, потому что они хорошо его знают. Я понимаю, что это песня о любви, но в ней есть и некоторая борьба. En primer lugar, escucharemos el nuevo disco de la clásica banda de la fusión estadounidense Yellowjackets, “Parallel Motion”. Editado el 26 de agosto por el sello Mack Avenue, el álbum de nueve composiciones “es un verdadero testimonio de la longevidad y la resistencia de una banda que debutó hace más de 40 años”. “Reinventándose constantemente a sí mismos a través de una elevada instrumentación en su característica firma sonoro electroacústico, la formación actual compuesta por Bob Mintzer (saxo tenor y soprano/EWI), Russell Ferrante (piano/teclados), Will Kennedy (batería, teclados) y Dane Alderson (bajo y secuencias MIDI) muestra un colectivo en su mejor momento”, señala la disquera. En la segunda parte del programa, destacamos el disco 2022 de la chelista estadounidense Jane Leppin junto a su Ensemble Volcanic Ash, otro de los lanzamientos del género, pero que amplia su campo de acción a la música docta, la improvisación y la música de cámara. Publicado por el sello Cuneiform, “el álbum captura la visión musical muy personal de Leppin, un sonido estilísticamente polimorfo que el Washington Post describe acertadamente como el ‘que encarna toda la complejidad y la gracia de la cooperación humana: ese trabajo en equipo intuitivo, empático y semitelepático (…). Ensemble Volcanic Ash, está integradao por Leppin en chelo, el bajista Luke Stewart, la harpista Kim Sator, el reconocido guitarrista Anthony Pirog -además esposo de Leppin-, Sarah Hughes en el saxo alto, Brian Settles en el saxo tenor y el baterista Larry Ferguson.

Внимательно слежу за его активностью на Фэйсбуке, где он проводит лайв-стримы прямо из своего дома в Гарлеме. На основе таких домашних джемов и родился новый альбом Uptown in Orbit. Название отсылает нас к альбому 1960 года Blues in Orbit и намекает на Duke Ellington, где он так же дает возможность музыкантам вести себя свободно, отступать от аранжировок, как это бывает при свободных импровизациях на джем-сейшенах. Здесь так же, как и в предыдущем альбоме половина оригиналов и половина произведений других авторов, одно из которых написал басист. Чувствуется хорошая сыгранность основного трио и это результат постоянных выступлений на публике по всему миру. Connie Han inaugurates her own brand new series of podcast conversations. The New York Times has described the pianist/composer as "the rare musician with fearsome technical chops and a breadth of historical knowledge." Her new work, Secrets of Inanna certainly reflects the verity of this statement. Due to be released on September 23 via Mack Avenue, its compositions are inspired by the Sumerian mythology of ancient Mesopotamia. Specifically, the legend of Inanna, the goddess of love, sensuality, beauty, fertility, procreation and, also, war. The music was conceived and written in partnership with Han's longtime producer and drummer, Bill Wysaske, and features bass great John Patitucci and veteran tenor saxophonist Rich Perry, with contributions by Katisse Buckingham on alto flute and piccolo. The new album serves as a starting point for a stimulating conversation about music, history, philosophy, fashion and much more. All music used with permission by Dan Wilson Akron based guitarist and Mack Avenue music group recording artist dan Wilson has paid multiple visits to the bop stop over the years when he isn't busy touring with joey DeFrancesco and Christian McBride's tip city project and it is always an outstanding and unique night of jazz. Dan joined us in support of his new album vessels of wood and earth with a trio that includes jeff Grubbs on bass and David Throckmorton on drums. From an October 23rd, 2021 performance it's the Dan Wilson Trio -Live at the Bop Stop. This program is recorded at the Robert Conrad Studios at the Bop Stop in Cleveland, Ohio with additional production by Graham Rosen and editing for WOBC and WNPA provided by Dr. Pete Naegele and for our podcast and other affiliates by Shawn Gilbert and Carsen Gilbert at GilAzar media.   The executive producer is Daniel Peck. Born on April 25, 1961, Allen grew up on gospel, R&B, and funk, but later turned to jazz after hearing an LP by the legendary saxophonist Benny Carter. He studied with drum instructor Roy Sneider and band director Robert Siemele. His first hometown gigs were with sax greats Sonny Stitt and James Moody. Allen studied at The University of Wisconsin at Green Bay from 1979 to 1981, and transferred to William Patterson College in New Jersey, where he graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Studies and Performance. Allen joined trumpeter Freddie Hubbard a year before his graduation, served as his Musical Director for eight years, and recorded several recordings with the trumpeter including Double Take and Life Flight. Allen also played with Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, Benny Golson, Jennifer Holliday, J.J. Johnson, Rickie Lee Jones, Sammy Davis Jr., Branford Marsalis, Kenny Garrett, Lena Horne, Ruth Brown, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Bobby Hutcherson, Mike Stern, Nellie McKay, Terence Blanchard, Phil Woods, Benny Green, Cyrus Chestnut, Joe Henderson, Billy Childs and many others. Allen's phenomenal sideman discography also includes Jackie McLean (Dynasty), Donald Harrison (Indian Blues, Noveau Swing), Donald Byrd (A City Called Heaven), and Art Farmer (The Company I Keep). “Carl Allen is an international powerhouse. His sound and feeings have fuled the bands of Freddie Hubbard, Christian McBride and countless others as well leading his own projects. “ – Joe Lovano Piccadilly Square (Timeless) was Allen's first CD as leader, released in 1989, followed by The Dark Side of Dewey (Evidence), The Pursuer (Atlantic), Testimonial (Atlantic), and Get Ready, his 2007 Mack Avenue gospel/Motown accented debut release with co-leader, bassist Rodney Whitaker followed up by Work to Do (Mack Avenue Records) featuring Kirk Whalum. Education has always been part of my mission Allen says. Art Blakey taught me the importance of nurturing the next generation of musicians. “Every generation needs someone to help them get to the next level and this what I am hoping to do”. In May of 2012 Allen received an honorary doctorate from Snow College in Ephraim, Utah in Humane Letters. Allen is also an accomplished businessman. He co-founded Big Apple Productions in 1988 with saxophonist Vincent Herring, produced several recordings for several Japanese labels with future stars Roy Hargrove and Nicholas Payton. Several years ago he created Nella Productions which produces projects and developed an education component to the company called The New York Jazz Symposium where he runs workshops around the world on jazz. Allen has also produced recordings for pianist Eric Reed, Dewey Redman. Pharoah Sanders, Freddie Hubbard, Kris Bowers and guitarist Lage Lund, the winner of the 2005 Thelonious Monk International Monk Competition and many others totaling nearly 70 credits as a producer. Carl Allen's multifaceted career provides the perfect template for what a modern musician should be. As Sid Gribetz of Jazz Times wrote, “more than just another fine drummer, Carl Allen has it all together as a bandleader, businessman, and producer, becoming a force in today's jazz world.” Allen maintains an exhaustive schedule of recording, touring and teaching. He remains active as a sideman with Christian McBride and Inside Straight, Benny Golson and others. As a leader most recently leading The Carl Allen Quartet as well as The Art of Elvin, a tribute band dedicated to his two drum influences, Art Blakey and Elvin Jones was started after the passing of Elvin Jones in 2004.
