Hey Buzzkills! This week's episode is PACKED with all the action and info you need! We're celebrating Abortion Provider Appreciation Week, and AAF is out on the road doing the important work of showing our support for the heroes who keep abortion care alive. Dr. Ashley Jeanius, OB-GYN and abortion provider, joins us to talk about how she feels celebrated during this special week and how YOU can show love and support for the providers in your life. But that's not all! We dive into the latest battlefronts, starting with the Wisconsin State Supreme Court race—where billionaires are throwing money to protect the anti-abortion agenda. We break down the stakes and why it matters. Then, we move to Kansas, where a potential ballot initiative could radically change the state's Supreme Court appointments, opening the floodgates for dark money to flood the system. We can't let that happen! PLUS, we dodge a bullet when David Weldon's CDC Director nomination gets pulled—because we weren't about to let that disaster unfold. It's packed with rage, real talk, and the kind of info you can't afford to miss. Scared? Got Questions about the continued assault on your reproductive rights? THE FBK LINES ARE OPEN! Indiana's one saving grace is that we are close to Illinois where women compassionately provide abortion care to women who are making responsible decisions about their ability to gestate, birth, and raise healthy children. Join Alison Dreith to learn about the work she does to help women.

Episode One of The Defenders features Brittany, Back in 2022, shortly after the fall of Roe, Brittany felt trapped. It's a heavy week as we bury another Black person murdered by law enforcement. Say it with us, “It's not bad apples, it's a system of oppression.” So this week, the Feminist Buzzkills are breaking down how justice is also NOT being served for violence committed against abortion providers and patients. From a 72-year-old clinic escort being assaulted by an anti-abortion, misogynistic henchman who was found NOT GUILTY (shocker!) to toxic trans vaginal probes and vending machines with morning-after pills, we're spilling ALL THE ABOBO TEA. As always, we're joined by fellow badasses who are tearing the patriarchy apart and protecting uteruses around the world on the daily! Diana Parker Kafka, executive director of Midwest Access Coalition (and Marie's boss, shhh don't tell her, this is her annual performance review!). Since the Dobbs decision has decimated abortion access, we will hear how one Midwest abortion fund has had to become a resource for abortion patients nationwide. Diana's here to drop all these facts and chat about how they are navigating their work in this critical time. PLUS! Hi-larious comedian, Kenice Mobley, is supplying the laughs. Fresh from her appearance on “The Tonight Show,” she's blabbing it up with us about her new comedy album “Follow Up Question,” how she really feels about the stank, steaming hot BULLSH*T that's been going down in the world, cumming in jars, why we should all take up baking bread, and the life and death experience that changed her forever. The world is heavy. So, take a deep breath and fill your ear holes with the ONLY weekly podcast hosted and produced by activists who work in the abortion movement! Welcome to Season 3, y'all! Bill wanted to kick off the third season of Hound Opinions with something a bit different. But don't worry, he still talks about dogs a bit. If you've been following on social media, then you know that since Roe v. Wade was overturned by the “supreme” court, Big Wags Chicago has been regularly donating a portion of the proceeds of each walk and training session to the Midwest Access Coalition and Chicago Abortion Fund. To open Season 3, Bill wanted to shout out one of those organizations doing some of the work to make sure women and all people with uteruses have access to safe, legal abortion. Let's not forget - Abortion is health care. Full stop. On the pod this time are Veronica Mucha and Madison Lyleroehr of the Midwest Access Coalition. Veronica is a volunteer with the organization, as well as working in immigration as a paralegal manager. In addition to her dog, Nora, she has two cats – Percival and Gertrude. Madison joined the Midwest Access Coalition in 2016 as a client coordinator and now serves as the treasurer of the board. This is a cool group and they're doing awesome work. Check out the Midwest Access Coalition online at midwestaccesscoalition.org. Big Wags Chicago is online at www.bigwagschicago.com. You can also find Big Wags on Twitter and Instagram at @bigwagschicago. Have a question you want answered in a future episode or just want to say hi? Email podcast@bigwagschicago.com.
In response to the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision to strike down Roe v. Wade, limiting access to safe and legal abortion across the country, Mary sits down with three women who continue to advocate for the individuals most impacted: Marie Khan, Director of Programs at Midwest Access Coalition; Natalie Moore, WBEZ journalist and playwright of The Billboard: A Play About Abortion, and activist and co-founder of SisterSong Loretta Ross.
We are joined by Bea Soderholm, DO and Raiven Owusu, both in Indiana, to discuss about how learners are dealing with the impending abortion ban. As a chief resident and fourth year medical student, they are both at a decision point in their career. Hear how abortion impacts their next steps in their career and why staying involved in abortion care is so important. Indiana implements a total abortion ban on September 15, which has exceptions only for "life of the mother" and rape or incest until 12 weeks gestation. Follow Dr. Soderholm at @beatrice__rae (Twitter and Instagram) and Ms. Owusu at @raiven_owusu (Twitter). Support pregnant Indiana people through support of the Midwest Access Coalition, which will help transport, lodge, and fund patients needing to leave their home state for abortion care. Apologies in advance for the sound quality on episodes 83 and 84--we had some issues with Gero's tracks. Internet of Humans, with Jillian York & Konstantinos Komaitis
After the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, abortion rights have become centre in American politics. One of the main concerns is the role technology and, the internet in general, can play in this new world, especially when it comes to issues of privacy and security. In this episode, we talk with Amanda Bennett, who works at the Digital Defense Fund, an organisation established in 2017 in response to the increased need for security and technology resources in the abortion rights movement after the 2016 election. Here are some of the links for organisations Amanda mentions: Midwest Access Coalition: https://midwestaccesscoalition.org Online Abortion Resource Squad: https://abortionsquad.org https://www.ineedana.com Repro Legal Helpline: https://www.reprolegalhelpline.org National Association for Pregnant Women: https://twitter.com/NAPW
President Joe Biden signed an executive order on abortion access Friday, two weeks after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Reset discusses what the federal action means for reproductive rights with University of Chicago's Lee Hasselbacher, Brigid Leahy with Planned Parenthood Illinois Action and Diana Parker-Kafka of Midwest Access Coalition.

TW: abortion, sexual assault/rape, suicide (time stamp: 50:56-52:20), abortion ban impacts on BIPOC folks, white saviorism (time stamp: 1:03-1:04)This week we have an essential and educational conversation with the phenomenal Moji of @abortionfront . On 06/24/22, The US Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade, revoking the fundamental right to abortion. Firstly, I want to let you all know that I unequivocally stand against the SCOTUS ruling and will do whatever I can to stand for the right to choose and fight for people with uteruses to maintain their bodily autonomy. Additionally, I would like to give a few disclaimers. First off, this episode is CLEAN. We have chose to remove all curse words/bleep them out so that this episode can be more widely distributed. Second, this episode was recorded on 06/25/22. There has been more updated information since we recorded this episode, but we were working with the information we had. Third, we were lucky enough to have Moji and Marie on episode 33 of the podcast (link: https://open.spotify.com/episode/2n5pykMhAJoxNENoVYYOJn?si=be35207fca7c4206), so this is, in a way, a part 2 to that episode. If you are looking for more explanation of what abortion is, check out that episode! This episode will center primarily on Roe and what to do now. Moji and I wanted to sit down and have a conversation addressing this SCOTUS ruling and where we go from here. The first chunk of this conversation is Moji and I speaking about how we, as people with uteruses, have processed this decision. Please cope however you feel you need to. The second part of our conversation centers on what our reality is now that Roe has fallen. We aimed to have this conversation be productive, educational, and upfront. We also mention quite a few resources throughout this episode for both people who need abortion care and for those who want to support and fund the reproductive rights movement. Moji works for Abortion Access Front (@abortionfront on ALL platforms), and they are hosting Operation Save Abortion on July 17th to help train people to join the reproductive rights movement in the capacity they are able to. Go to https://www.aafront.org/operation-save-abortion/ for more info and to sign up! Our missing friend Marie also works for Midwest Access Coalition (@midwest_access_coalition), which is a practical access fund that funds travel costs, food, childcare, etc. for people needing to travel to an abortion (https://midwestaccesscoalition.org ). Lastly, Marie, Moji, & Lizz Winstead host Feminist Buzzkills Live Pod, which is a podcast centering on abortion in an honest and practical way (releases every Friday night). We also mentioned ineedana.com . This platform is used for people to locate clinics that can provide abortion care for you at your point in your pregnancy. We also plugged Plan C & Aid Access, which are both platforms that mail out abortion pills to your home. Lastly, we mentioned a few others, including emotional support from @underthedesknews. You can call 612-293-8550 to trauma dump and chat about your emotions about this decision. LASTLY! I have made a huge master doc with ALL things abortion including resources for people seeking an abortion, looking to learn more, and looking to support/fund abortion care etc etc etc! Link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DvISKDWBgZlTVEEzUl-P0sSpc5MEtYaOFw6b4Fvv2HE/edit?usp=sharing .
We are one week into the Roepocalypse and even more pissed. A whole lot of bullshit has been spewing out from almost half of the states this week and your Buzzkills are breaking it all down for you. How many clinics are closed? Which state bans are being challenged and reopened? Who is actually showing up as an ally? We cover all of it in this episode, plus we even have some unexpected bright spots for you! Here to help us get through the BS are two Roe-rriors who are kicking these patriarchal dickpuffins' asses on the daily! First, we've got Mike Bonanza, the executive director of Elevated Access, AKA the dope nonprofit made up of hundreds of volunteer pilots working with organizations like Midwest Access Coalition to fly out folks who need abortion access for FREE! Is this real life? YUP, and Mike is here to explain it all to us. PLUS! Hilarious, amazing, talented, abortion evangelist Busy Philipps is in the house with part two of our interview! She dropped in to talk all things abortion, how the entertainment industry needs to step their shit up for abortion representation, and so much more. She got so real with us, we broke her interview up into TWO PARTS, baby! Catch part one in last week's episode. The world is heavy right now, in between all the raging and fighting against the patriarchy, so show yourself some extra love. You are not alone. We got you! The Advocates share their reactions to SCOTUS decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, both in their own states and in our country. Later in the episode, they are joined by Dr. Henry Klapholz, a professor emeritus OB/GYN who lived and worked through pre-Roe years. We discuss the dangers of the pre-Roe era, what complications we should worry about now that abortion is prohibited in many places, as well as what is different now that self-managed abortion is an option for patients. There are so many things we can do, even if we are feeling hopeless and scared right now. Check out the resources below and also Katie McHugh's twitter thread with some action items (click here). Following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Reset talks to someone who works on the frontlines of abortion access. Christy Uchida is a volunteer host with the Midwest Access Coalition, which provides logistical support to people who have abortions.
It's about to become much harder to find safe abortion care in America, in a country where some states already make it almost impossible. This week, we make sense of what's happening and how we got here. Lilah speaks with Rhiannon Hamam, a Texas public defender and host of the popular show 5-4 (“a podcast about how much the Supreme Court sucks”) to make sense of Roe vs Wade, the seminal law that is expected to be overturned. Then, we pass the mic to three people providing abortion services in three states that will face some of the biggest changes: Wisconsin, Alabama and Illinois. They tell us what they're seeing, and how they're preparing for a post-Roe world.--------------Links and mentions from the episode: – You heard this week from Rhiannon Hammam, co-host of the podcast 5-4. CW: Abortion, brief mention of nonconsensual sexual interactions, violence against Black women (specifically in medical care), misogyny, brief mention of abuse/DV, trauma/manipulation regarding crisis pregnancy centersThis week we have the absolutely incredible Moji Alawode-El (she/her) & Marie Khan (she/her) of Feminist Buzzkills Live and Abortion Access Front on to talk about abortion, abortion access, myths, and so much more.
