Full episode transcript HERE. The first awful week ends with March for Madness – IT'S HEAVY ON THE MADNESS! Your Feminist Buzzkils are out here using facts and belly laughs to break down the early returns of how the anti-abobo gorgons will fuck with our rights. Let's snap you out of your facism fatigue, stat! Every one of you is an abobo warrior, and we salute you (in a very normal human way). Trump's first week ended with the anti-abortion mayhem known as the March for Life, AKA Unbornaroo. For 52 years they have taken over the Capital for their annual patriarchal parade of fetus worship and ovarian oppression. BUT, as always, we've got the play by play! We're bringing y'all: their lies and their plans on where they will prioritize creating policy to further destroy access to abortion care. AND, joining us is Constitutional law scholar Dr. Michele Goodwin to explain the devastating blows we can expect from their shenanigans. From plans to reinstate the Global Gag rule to how Christian legal firms have spent DECADES turning the courts into dogma distribution centers, one judge at a time. All this, PLUS, the latest on the anti-abortion “terrorists” Trump pardoned this week and all of the abobo-related news you need to know. Times are heavy, but knowledge is power, y'all. We gotchu. In this episode of The Horn, guest host Elissa Jobson speaks with Kwesi Sansculotte-Greenidge, former Senior Conflict and Access Advisor at the World Food Programme, and Abdalla Hussein, operational manager at Médecins Sans Frontières. They unpack the concept of humanitarian diplomacy and the challenges aid organisations face in negotiating access to civilians in conflict-affected areas, including in Sudan. They talk about the difficulties of coordinating efforts among aid organisations and the obstacles they encounter in getting conflict parties to uphold humanitarian principles amid competing interests and bureaucratic hurdles. They discuss how mediation efforts to end conflicts are often linked with negotiations for aid access and why it could make sense to separate the two tracks in cases like Sudan. They also discuss how aid organisations navigate a shifting global order and the rising influence of middle powers in conflict areas. This episode is produced in partnership with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung.For more on the topics discussed in this episode, check out our Horn of Africa program page. It's Wednesday, November 13th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Iranian prison releases pastor for hosting worship in his home Praise God! Officials in Iran released an Armenian-Iranian pastor from prison, according to International Christian Concern. Authorities imprisoned Pastor Anooshavan Avedian in September 2023 for having worship services in his house. They charged him with “establishing and leading an illegal group with the aim of disrupting the security of the country through educational and propaganda activities contrary to, and disturbing the holy religion of Islam, through the dissemination of false claims.” Pastor Avedian faced 10 years in prison for his ministry. However, officials released him only a year into his sentence after public outcry. Iran is ranked ninth on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian. Secular society: “Blasphemous” to claim gender change is impossible The Evangelical Alliance of Northern Ireland took a closer look at the craziness of gender ideology recently, reports The Christian Post. David Smyth with the Christian group warned the region's Education Committee, “I do think we need to be careful not to create new secular blasphemies. Is it secular blasphemy to believe that a man cannot biologically become a woman?” In light of the woke ideology that pervades all government-run schools, anyone who rejects biologically inaccurate pronouns or names is treated as a societal scoundrel. Plus, such a politically correct worldview leads to both the marginalization of the Christian worldview as well as the use of age-inappropriate material. Ireland's bold March for Jesus that condemned abortion Meanwhile in Ireland, Christians held the first-ever “March for Jesus” in Dublin last month, reports Christian Daily International. The event celebrated the Christian heritage of the peoples of Ireland going back to missionary St. Patrick in the fifth century. Participants sang and prayed, holding signs that read, “March for Jesus,” “Jesus is the Way,” and “Jesus is King.” Pastor John Ahern of All Nations Church spoke the truth and prayed a powerful prayer. AHERN: “God will not bless the shedding of innocent blood. God will not bless euthanasia. God will not bless the sexualization of children. God will not bless the erasure of women. And God will not bless churches that are so cowardly they refuse to call evil exactly what it is. “And so, Father, we stand in the gap for this nation. We pray blessing over Ireland. We pray blessing over Northern Ireland, over Great Britain, Lord God, over Europe, and over the nations. And we pray, Lord God, in the name of Jesus, that as we come to the darkest time of the year, that we want to lift You up as the light of the world. “And we pray that the Irish people are going to come back to You, to faith in You, to honoring You, to worshipping You, to declaring that You are Lord.” Revelation 11:15 says, “The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever.” Christian counselor wants freedom to help people trapped in homosexuality Alliance Defending Freedom is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to protect the free speech of a Christian counselor in Colorado. Kaley Chiles is challenging a Colorado law that censors her from talking with clients about sexuality according to her faith. Cody Barnett, legal counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom, said, “We are urging the Supreme Court to hear Kaley's case . . . and stop Colorado officials from banning someone's speech simply because they disagree with her beliefs. All Americans should be allowed to speak freely and seek the best possible help they desire.” Trump selects Tom Homan to run border, Huckabee as ambassador to Israel On Monday, President-elect Donald Trump announced that Tom Homan will be in charge of the U.S. border. Homan is the acting director of U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement. He is known for a policy of zero-tolerance for illegal immigration, promising to “run the biggest deportation operation this country's ever seen.” Also on Monday, Trump announced Lee Zeldin will lead the Environmental Protection Agency. Zeldin previously served as a Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives for New York. His goal is to deregulate the business sector, encourage U.S. energy production, and bring back jobs from oversees. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, an ordained Baptist minister and TV host, is the choice to be the next U.S. ambassador to Israel in the incoming Trump administration, reports Fox News. Trump has promised to strengthen U.S. ties with Israel as it fights wars against Iran-backed terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah. Future mothers stockpile Abortion Kill Pills Demand for abortion drugs surged following the election of Donald Trump. Aid Access facilitates mail-order Abortion Kill Pills. It reported a 16-fold increase in requests. Other groups that provide contraceptives also reported huge increases in demand. Isaiah 59:7 says, “Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood.” Augustine of Hippo: The prodigal son who repented And finally, this week marks the birth of Augustine of Hippo. The renowned Christian theologian was born on November 13, A.D. 354 in what is modern-day Algeria, Africa. Augustine's early life was marred by prodigal living. His mother faithfully prayed for him for years before his eventual conversion in his 30s. This took place after he providentially came across Romans 13:13-14, which says, “Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in … drunkenness … and sensuality. … But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.” Augustine would go on to become Bishop of Hippo, a Roman province in North Africa. An able scholar, he turned his mind to the theological battles of his day, producing Christian classics like Confessions and The City of God. Augustine's life and work would have a dominating influence on Western civilization. The Protestant Reformers, in particular, would quote him extensively in their efforts to reform the church over a thousand years later. The World Food Programme's (WFP) Spokesperson in Sudan says the world “cannot give up hope” of averting widespread famine across the war-torn country, despite evidence of it spreading on the ground in Darfur and increasing problems accessing those in desperate need who are caught between rival armies.Leni Kinzli told UN News's Abdelmonem Makki that international action now could avert many deaths, including for around 90,000 facing catastrophic hunger in the devastated capital, Khartoum.

This week, the Supremes ruled UNANIMOUSLY in favor of the abortion pill mifepristone! The Court rebuffed an unfounded and politically-charged challenge to the drug from anti-abortion assholes, and not even oppression's handmaid Brett Kavanaugh took the bait. Good news can't be celebrated without a whole lot of bitching and dragging of the anti-abobo scheming that also went down this week. Who's on our shitlist? Some misogynist visionary clowns pulling some BS in the South, of course! So what comes next? Is this all part of a bigger conservative plan to outlaw abortion? SAVING ABORTION PILLS - New research by JAMA network claims thousands of women stocked up on abortion pills in the past few years. Requests for abortion pills were the highest in May 2022, right after news leaked that the Supreme Court was set to overturn Roe vs. Wade. Aid Access, a European online telemedicine service that prescribes medication for future and immediate use, received 48,000 requests from across the US from September 2021 to April 2023. Nationally the average number of requests grew from 25 prior to the leak to 247 after the leak. Washington Correspondent Arielle Hixson examines the research and what this means for the status of reproductive health nationwide.
The UN Security Council has passed a key resolution, emphasizing the immediate acceleration of aid deliveries to the distressed civilians in Gaza.

Many at the forefront of the abortion access movement(s) predicted the overturn of Roe v. Wade would be the tip of the iceberg on legislation curbing bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom -- and they were right. In March 2023, Texas U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk appeared sympathetic to arguments from the anti-abortion coalition the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine in a case that is attempting to overturn the FDA's approval of the abortion pill mifepristone - one of two pills used for a medical abortion, which accounts for over half of U.S. abortions. In this bonus episode, you'll hear from Plan C Pills co-founder Elisa Wells, Imani Wilson Shabazz, and Dr. Raegan McDonald-Mosley, CEO of Power to Decide about how safe the abortion pills are and how to access abortion pills regardless of what happens with the current lawsuit. Finally, you'll go on a journey with a young woman in Alabama who receives her first abortion pill from Dr. Diane Horvath on her last trip to Alabama to perform abortions before the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Medication abortion is safer than Tylenol, and it's certainly safer than carrying a pregnancy to term. So why is there a case out of Texas that claims medication abortion is dangerous and must be banned? Jessica Mason Pieklo, Senior Vice President and Executive Editor at Rewire News Group and Co-Host of the Boom! Lawyered podcast, sits down to talk with us about the frivolous framework of this case and how it threatens nationwide access to abortion pills. The Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. The FDA is out of the northern district of Texas, where anti-abortion advocates are arguing that, 20 years after the fact that the Food and Drug Administration has ruled on the safety and efficacy of mifepristone (one of two drugs used in a medication abortion), the drug is in fact dangerous and must be pulled from the market. This case sits in front of Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, a Trump-appointed judge who has a vast history of anti-LGBTQ+, anti-reproductive health and rights rulings, including blocking contraception access for Texas teens under the Title X program on the grounds of parental religious objection. This case has the potential to reach into abortion-protective states by prohibiting the FDA from keeping the drug on the market, meaning your location in California, Washington, New York, or other like-minded states will not protect you from this direct attack on medication abortion. The introduction and legitimization of this case creates confusion about the status of abortion access in one's state, leading many to not feel that they can access care. There is also a likelihood that the FDA can ignore this ruling and be within their rights to do so; the FDA's enforcement power is discretionary and has the power itself to approve and remove drugs from the market—a power that federal courts do not hold. Anti-abortion advocacy groups are also attempting to block abortion providers (using intentionally vague language) like Plan C, Aid Access, and Choix, from providing abortion or even education about or advocating for abortion. It's Tuesday, January 10th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Mexican Baptist woman tied to tree and beaten Christian Solidarity Worldwide reports that a Baptist woman was tied to a tree and beaten by villagers in a southern Mexico community in Hidalgo state where she remains hospitalized in critical condition. No arrests have been made in the public beating. Maria Concepcion Hernández is a member of the Great Commission Baptist Church. According to Christian Solidarity Worldwide, “Local authorities have repeatedly attempted to force members of the religious minority to participate in Roman Catholic religious festivals, including through financial donations, lighting candles, and actively participating in acts of worship. Members of the religious minority community have been arbitrarily detained, beaten, barred from accessing medical care, sacked from their jobs, blocked from burying their dead, and had their lands arbitrarily confiscated.” Nicaraguan president shut down Evangelical radio and churches After his election last year, the president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, has stepped up persecution against Protestant and Roman Catholic churches. Radio stations linked to Protestant Evangelicals have been shut down and police are preventing congregants from attending churches. Plus, Sunday worship services have been shut down, and police intimidation of clergy is expanding everywhere. You can access an extensive report on Nicaragua's abuse of human rights through a special link in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com. 2 Thessalonians 1:5-7 reminds us that “This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering— since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you . . .when the Lord Jesus is revealed from Heaven with His mighty angels.” Thousands of Bolsonaro protesters stormed Brazilian capital Thousands of protesters stormed the capital in Brazil over the weekend, some indicating they were supporters of previous president Jair Bolsonaro. One thousand participants have been detained by police. In response to the riots, the former president, now residing in Florida, tweeted that “Peaceful demonstrations, in keeping with the law, are part of democracy. However, vandalism and invasions of public buildings, like what occurred today, as well as those practiced by the Left in 2013 and 2017, are out of bounds.” Worldwide inflation hit 8.8% And now, the International Monetary Fund reports the worldwide inflation rate is 8.8%, up from 3.2% in 2020. That's the highest rate for worldwide inflation since 1996. The valuation of gold is back up to $1,870 an ounce. Gold values have beat inflation by 60% between 1980 and 2022. Tech companies slash 238,000 jobs Also, in economic news, the tech job market is taking a big hit as 238,000 jobs have been cut. That's 20 times the layoffs experienced in 2021. The biggest layoffs have been at Amazon, Salesforce, Facebook, and Twitter. That compares to 81,000 in 2020, and 13,000 in 2021. The Job Network reports the fastest growing job market in 2023 will be for nurses, medical assistants, home health aides, and plumbers. House Republicans want to defund 87,000 new IRS agents The Republican-controlled House of Representatives is moving a bill ahead which would cut $72 billion from the IRS, in hopes of preventing the increase pushed by the Democrats in the last session, reports Fox News. The Democrat-supported Inflation Reduction Act included $80 billion intended for hiring 87,000 auditors for the IRS. The Republicans are hoping to protect Americans from an explosion of tax audits. The bill will leave in place funding for IT improvements and customer service improvements. Aid Access sending abortion kill pill by mail Coming after the reversal of Roe v. Wade, abortion is now becoming much more accessible in the United States, at least by the Do-It-Yourself method. The New York Times reports that an organization called Aid Access mails the abortion pill to states which limit abortion — averaging over 80,000 requests per year from at least 27 states. There are at least 20 other dispensers of the kill-pill-by-mail advertised on the world wide web. But be assured, Jesus said, “For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.” (Luke 8:17) Conservative psychologist Jordan Peterson threatened by Canadian board And finally, the Wall Street Journal editorial board has issued a rebuke to the College of Psychologists for Ontario, for their threats to pull Jordan Peterson's license over social media posts. The college is requiring the rogue psychologist, who registers more than 15 million followers, to submit to mandatory social media communication re-training. Peterson has not toed the line of “wokism,” feminism, and political correctness for a number of years. In an op-ed piece in the National Post, Peterson notes that he has been placed in the “category of repeat offender, with high risk of further repetition.” He has refused the re-education, and he says, “I will definitely face further exceptionally public, demanding, time-consuming and expensive disciplinary action, including the suspension of my license.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Tuesday, January 10th, in the year of our Lord 2023. Abortion care is not just an essential part of reproductive healthcare but a necessary component of holistic healthcare decisions. When pregnant people are diagnosed with life-threatening conditions, when does their survival become the priority? With the recent overturn of Roe v Wade, these decisions are more complicated. Doctors in states with bans that only allow abortion in the case of "imminent danger" to the mother's life are unsure how to proceed. It's difficult for them to interpret the law and determine a treatment plan when they could face a felony charge for performing an abortion while their patient's life is on the line. An oncologist from the University of Wisconsin shares stories of cancer patients unable to receive treatment, and a Maryland woman who had a pregnancy onset stroke, shares how she took her survival into her own hands when she couldn't obtain the abortion she needed. As healthcare becomes politicized, who has a mother-to-be's best interests in mind when it's a matter of life or death?Visit CTLpod.com to find out more about the podcast, resources for abortion care, and information on how you can take action.Thank you to Dr. Lisa Barriolet, Dr. Noelle Loconte, Layla Houshmand, Nurse-Midwife Morgan Nuzzo from Partners in Abortion Care, Cinthya Maldonado, University Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and everyone who shared their stories.Go to plancpills.org to learn how to access abortion pills. Movement leaders -- striving to ensure all people have access to abortion since the fall of Roe -- contend that the current and future success of abortion care is the abortion pill. Whether obtaining the pill at clinics, via telemedicine providers, or a self-managed abortion (SMA), access to abortion pills levels out the playing field for millions of people who otherwise might not have access, particularly youth, BIPOC, LGBTQI++, and under-resourced people. In this episode, leaders in the abortion pill space break down how to get them, use them, and why they're critical.Visit CTLpod.com to find out more about the podcast, resources for abortion care, and information on how you can take action.Thank you to Elisa Wells and Imani Wilson-Shabaz from Plan C Pills, Christie Pitney and Dr. Rebecca Gomperts from Aid Access, Kimberly Inez McGuire from Abortion on Our Own Terms and Executive Director of URGE, Dr. Raegan McDonald-Mosley CEO of Power to Decide and Rachel Fey Director of Public Policy. In this episode, we discuss the implications of the recent Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson, taking away the constitutional right to abortion by overturning Roe v. Wade and granting states the authority to impose restrictions on abortion care. We speak with Amy Perez, a nurse and abortion care provider living in Texas, about what the decision means for reproductive health and Amy Perez is a queer activist from Madison, Wisconsin. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a minor in Chican@ & Latinx studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As an undergrad, the Obama administration awarded her the President's service medal in recognition for 200+ hours of volunteer service for Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Upon graduation, Amy moved to Austin, TX to complete a Residency in Pediatric Intensive Care. After SB8 took effect, a bounty law that allows private citizens to sue whoever helps people obtaining abortions beyond 6 weeks of gestation, Amy decided to switch specialties to serve those affected by this law. Amy currently works as an Abortion Services Nurse for Planned Parenthood of greater TX at the South Austin Surgical Services Center. Amy intends to become a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner to help victims of sexual violence when she becomes eligible to certify. Amy's goal is to become a Midwife and a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner and open her own sexual and reproductive health center. Eventually, she will also get a DNP in psychiatry & mental health. Amy has devoted her life to serving and empowering underserved and marginalized communities. Then you and your family need to come to the Fight Laugh Feast Conference in Knoxville Tennessee, on October 6-8. The topic of this conference is Lies, Propaganda, storytelling, and the serrated edge. Satan is the father of lies, and the mother of those lies is a government that has rejected God. Christians haven’t been reading their Bibles, so we as a society are more susceptible than ever to satan and his lies. So join us, October 6-8, as we fight, laugh, and feast, with beer & psalms, our amazing lineup of speakers, including Pastor Doug Wilson, George Gilder, and Pastor Toby Sumpter of the CrossPolitic Show, and more… AND, stuff for the kids too, like jumpy castles, and accidental infant baptisms! When unelected New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently told all 5.4 million registered Republicans in her state to move to Florida, I pointed to her statement as evidence that she is brimming with confidence that there is no possible way she could lose to a Republican in November. While that still may turn out to be the case, the picture is nowhere near as clear as it seemed to be a couple of months ago. In early August, a SurveyUSA poll had Hochul ahead of Republican Lee Zeldin by a whopping 52 to 28 margin. But this week, a Trafalgar poll dropped and they have Zeldin hot on Hochul’s tail, with the Governor’s lead dropping to a 47.8 to 43.4% advantage. That’s still outside the poll’s margin of error, but not by very much. So is this real? (NY Post) Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin is closing in on incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul in New York’s tightening gubernatorial race, a poll released Saturday found. The survey, conducted by the independent Trafalgar Group, found Hochul with just a 4 percent lead over the Long Island congressman — a significant narrowing in a race that has seen Hochul with a lead of up to 24 points. The poll of 1,091 likely general election voters, conducted on Wednesday and Thursday, pegged Hochul at 47.8% — and Zeldin, at 43.4%, nipping at the Democrat’s heels. It’s still entirely possible that this is just a rather extreme outlier and Hochul’s numbers will spring back in the next couple of surveys. After all, the RCP average still shows Hochul with a nearly 15-point lead even after this Trafalgar poll was factored in. But then again, all of those other polls were conducted well before her speech where she demanded that more than 5 million people leave the state. Further, the SurveyUSA poll I mentioned above may have given Hochul a 24-point lead, but there were still 14 % undecided. If those undecided voters all started shifting in Zeldin’s direction, the race could actually be tightening considerably. If you see two consecutive polls, with similar results, that could translate into actual momentum. I’m not even close to getting my hopes up yet because we’ve been burned too many times before. New York hasn’t elected a Republican governor since George Pataki’s third victory in 2002. And even that race was very close, with Pataki benefitting from an unexpectedly strong showing for a third-party candidate who drained votes away from the Democrat. The generic ballot has only gotten worse for New York Republicans since then. There would need to have been a massive sea change in a very short period of time for these latest figures to be real. But I don’t think we can say that it’s flatly impossible. Crime in the state – particularly in New York City – has been out of control for a while now and the state is hemorrhaging residents. Hochul and her party have done nothing to fix the “bail reform” policies they instituted and a majority of New Yorkers see that as one of the leading drivers of increased crime rates. Taxes have continued to go up on a number of things, even as high prices make it harder for people to get by. Is it possible that the Democrats are finally losing support, even in the blue stronghold of New York City? Zeldin should do well in the upstate region, but he can’t win unless he can gain some significant traction in the Big Apple. Put a bookmark on this race and we’ll come back to it in a few weeks. If we see one or two more surveys producing similar results, we could have an actual race on our hands. And the down-ballot races for both Congress and the state legislature might deliver some very unpleasant surprises for the Democrats if that turns out to be the case. https://thepostmillennial.com/abortion-pill-providers-seek-to-bend-or-break-pro-life-state-laws?utm_campaign=64487 Abortion pill providers seek to bend or break pro-life state laws To circumvent pro-life laws in many states, abortion activists, including those in the medical community, are pursuing questionable legal methods of delivering abortion drugs to women who are seeking the procedure. According to the New York Times, Elizabeth Nash, who works for the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute said, "We’re going to see these different approaches by organizations as they assess what the laws say and develop their rationale for how to provide care." "We just don’t have a road map about how to provide medication abortion post-Roe, so it’s all being created right now," Nash added. The solutions to get around pro-life laws include prescribing medications that induce abortion past the 10-week limit set by the Food and Drug Administration. Another option is that physicians are providing telemedicine appointments to abortion seekers and not asking about their state of origin. In other instances, physicians are simply giving out abortion inducing medication to anyone who asks, regardless of whether they are pregnant or not, in a hope to saturate the market and disseminate the drugs en masse. As the Times reports, abortion via medication "typically involves two drugs: mifepristone, which blocks a hormone necessary for pregnancy development, followed 24 to 48 hours later by misoprostol, which causes contractions that expel pregnancy tissue." Medication-induced abortions made up over half of the abortions in the US by 2020. 11 Republican-led states, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Texas, had strong strong pro-life legislation go into effect right away with many other states, like Indiana, following suit. The current practices around the dissemination of medicine that induces abortion creates a legal grey area for many of these states as their legislation mostly focuses on abortion clinics and their providers. Christie Pitney, a "midwife" who works for Europe based pro-abortion company Aid Access said preliminary prescription was the solution, calling it "advance provision," and that women should get the medication wherever they can and hold on to it. Pitney said getting medication that will kill an unborn child was like getting "medication for traveler’s diarrhea." According to Pitney, Aid Access has received 10,000 requests for the medication after the overturn of Roe. Redballoon Not so long ago, the American dream was alive and well. Thankfully, a few unlikely good Samaritans were nearby to rescue the stranded traveler. The wild sequence of events was recounted by Tucker County State Sen. Randy Smith (R) on Facebook, which occurred near a coal mine on Mettiki Coal access road U.S. 48, a few miles outside of Davis, West Virginia, according to WTRF. “Today at our mine off Corridor H an electric car from DC ran out of battery at the road entrance to the mine,” Smith wrote. The state senator noted that the vehicle was stranded in the middle of the haul road, meaning that workers had to act fast to not impede incoming traffic. As a few coal miners came to assist, it was soon realized that the vehicle could not be moved by a tow truck since the bottom of the car was all plastic with nothing to hook onto. With few options left, the coal miners worked with the driver to push the vehicle up the road to the mine where the traveler could recharge his car. “If you look closely you can see our coal stockpile and load out in the background,” Smith noted as the five coal miners and driver are seen pushing the vehicle in a photo. While electric vehicles have recently symbolized an elitist shift away from natural energy resources such as coal, natural gas, and oil to renewable energy sources, that narrative was set aside on Friday as the coal miners were more than willing to help the unfortunate traveler. Smith added that one of the good Samaritans even gifted the D.C. driver a “Friend of Coal” license plate to take home with him. Dr. Mai Fleming has a breadth of experience working in primary care settings and providing reproductive health services across the gender spectrum. Her work includes telemedicine abortion services via Hey Jane. As a family doctor, she helps people consider reproductive health and family planning within the broader context of their lives. In taking an expansive view of what reproductive care encompasses—including fertility counseling, abortion, and gender-affirming hormone therapy—Dr. Fleming works to help her patients meet their goals. In this episode, Dr. Fleming sits down with host Tammy to discuss what she sees as providers' role in supporting patients, now that Roe v. Wade has been overturned. They review the multitude of situations in which a pregnancy is not optimal and how abortion stigma is one of the biggest barriers to medically safe abortion. At the core of her work, Dr. Fleming seeks to ensure her patients are empowered and find joy in their own reproductive health decisions. Download the transcript of this episode. Fun Half Link: https://youtu.be/6vpbbQ6EQ8I It's Casual Friday! Sam and Emma host Alex Pareene, Contributing Editor at the New Republic and proprietor of the AP newsletter on Substack, to round up the week in news. Then Sam and Emma are joined by comedian Lizz Winstead, co-host of the Feminist Buzzkills Live! podcast. Then Sam and Emma are joined by comedian Lizz Winstead, co-host of the Feminist Buzzkills Live! podcast. First, Emma and Sam touch on Sam's conversation with Destiny before diving into Gavin Newsome making an astonishingly good policy move, initiating the production of Insulin in California, taking a small step in undermining the dangers of IP in medicine. Then, Alex Pareene joins as they discuss how to get up in the morning, the importance of engaging in local organizing – not just in terms of its greater efficacy, but also with the importance of community support – and expand on Newsome's insulin policy as a shocking departure from the lack of imagination in the Democratic Party. Next, Alex, Sam, and Emma look to Biden's recent executive action on reproductive rights, and how it perfectly aligns with the Democratic Party's inability to take actions that don't tiptoe around the issues at hand, doing nothing to genuinely secure the right to reproductive healthcare, and instead focusing on how they can use this rollback of rights to secure votes, despite giving us no idea of why voting for them will help our rights. Diving deeper into liberal impotency, they discuss Biden and Democratic Leadership's refusal to do anything but follow precedent as the right completely obliterates any precedent that comes in their way, with their commitment to the consultant class only giving rise to the term “ultra-maga” to fight back, all while still attempting to make bipartisan agreements with the “respectable” side of a fundamentalist party. They wrap up the interview by looking forward to the upcoming midterms, the impact Dobbs might have on it, and whether Democrats will finally remember that things other than federal elections matter. Then, Lizz Winstead joins as she dives into her work with the Abortion Access Front, centering both practical and medical support funds and the importance of engaging people in their own capacities to both keep them activated and address the countless areas of action that are needed. They also discuss the idea of the right's cruelty being fundamental to their agenda, the flaccidity of Democrats' arguments on “exemptions,” and the importance of uplifting the stories of actual people facing intense oppression and marginalization. And in the Fun Half: Emma and Sam dive into the EU's recent condemnation of the SCOTUS' overturn of Roe v Wade, the Brits absolutely nail Boris' exit music, and Jack from GA critiques Sam's claims on US Plutocracy. Sam reviews his debate with Destiny last night and the revelation that his opponent truly had no idea what he was talking about, Fox and Friends discuss how Boris Johnson lost the trust of the UK (his GLOBALIST tactics of ISOLATIONISM), and Sam and Emma admire Ron Johnson even thinking he would have time to run an ad that refers to a specific “most recent mass shooting.” OK Gov Stick speaks on the probable cause of CRT in a Tulsa classroom (god knows that city has no history of issues with race relations), Dore reminds us that the true oppressed class is Christians, who totally have no political power right now (especially on the Supreme Court), and Vaughn from Wisconsin discussion institutionalism in law schools. During an Independence Day parade this Monday, a 21-year-old man in Highland Park, Illinois shot and killed at least seven people and injured many more. We discuss the latest developments and the stories of the victims, who ranged in age from 8 to 88 years old.Jackson Women's Health Organization, the Mississippi abortion provider at the center of the case that brought down Roe, officially closed its doors after a judge refused to block the state's trigger law from going into effect. Laurie Bertram Roberts, co-founder and executive director of the Mississippi Reproductive Freedom Fund, joins us to discuss what comes next. And in headlines: A Georgia grand jury subpoenaed seven of Donald Trump's close allies, the Justice Department sued the state of Arizona over its new voting law, and several members of UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's government resigned.Show Notes:Mississippi Reproductive Freedom Fund - https://www.msreprofreedomfund.org/Plan C Information Campaign - https://www.plancpills.org/AidAccess - https://aidaccess.org/Women On Waves - https://www.womenonwaves.org/Self-Managed Abortion; Safe & Supported - https://abortionpillinfo.org/Vote Save America: Fuck Bans Action Plan – https://votesaveamerica.com/roe/Follow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/whataday/
Emma hosts Matt Huber, professor of Geography at Syracuse University, to discuss his recent book Climate Change As Class War: Building Socialism On A Warming Planet. Fun Half Link: https://youtu.be/7VBSIZSyn7o First, Emma walks through updates on Boris Johnson's official resignation, the police's response to their role in the Highland Park shooter acquiring his gun, Biden's anti-abortion judicial nom having been delayed due to… the overturn of Roe v. Wade, and another Robb Elementary teachers speaking out on the Texas police response (or lack thereof). Then, Matt Huber joins as he and Emma dive right into this conflict between systemic critiques and critiques on individual consumption, looking at the former as a straightforward critique that looks to those in control of production, rather than one that dances around capitalism's inherent issues by deputizing the professional-managerial class to police the carbon footprints of themselves and others. After expanding on the role of free-market ideology in promoting the idea that we, the consumers, shape production – rather than the people that control production – Emma and Matt dive deeper into the climate activism found in the PMC and how this hyper-educated class attempts to marshall their credentials for advantages in the labor market, calling out the right's roles in the “lies” and “denial” in popular discourse, rather than how they (and the Democrats) sanction fossil fuel extraction for profit (and thus avoiding the easy solution of nationalizing the energy industries). Next, Huber walks through the different archetypes of PMC climate activists, and their individualist, self-centered tactics, before they wrap up the interview by tackling the importance of deindustrialization that is led by industrial workers, and discussing the pros and cons of a degrowth mindset. And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Matt and Brandon as Chris from the Bay Area inquires about the lack of a left version of the Federalist Society, Boris Johnson resigns, and Ryan from Tennessee gives a rather disturbing update on the state of his local police department. The crew also dives into updates on Brittney Griner's detainment in Russia, Majorie Taylor Greene can't believe July 4th parades were shot up when Pride JUST happened. The Dark Horse podcast gives their pair (note: NOT peer) review about an article on vaccines, and Margaret from PA uplifts Emma's talents before getting into her state's governor race. Sam and Emma host Aaron Kleinman, director of research for the States Project at Future Now to discuss how Roe V. Wade being overturned is affecting fights for state legislatures around the country. Then, they are joined by Trita Parsi, Executive Vice President at the Quincy Institute, to discuss the Biden Administration's positioning towards Iran. First, Sam and Emma dive into updates from this weekend's Highland Park shooting, Boris Johnson's looming resignation in the UK, and Mississippi's failed attempt to reign in their trigger laws at the hands of a trial that was anything but secular. Then, Aaron Kleinman joins to walk through what the States Project is, and how it is working at the state level to secure the individual rights under attack from the rights with a particular focus on its role in securing reproductive rights. Next, Kleinman walks through the biggest statehouse and state senate races across the battleground states, starting with the single-seat that is keeping Arizona under unfettered Republican control, and Maine's role, despite the reemergence of LePage, in leading the way for the most progressive agendas across the country. They also discuss the electoral mapping changes that have pushed back against minoritarian control in Michigan and Pennsylvania (which is especially important in the latter state with the GOP's Theocratic Governor candidate), and explore the possible success in undermining wholesale Republican control in North Carolina and Nebraska, before wrapping up by diving into the action and organizing from the States Project and how we can support THEIR support of grassroots gubernatorial and state-based campaigns. Trita Parsi then joins as they dive into what the JCPOA was, its particular focus on hindering future nuclear developments, how it crumbled under Trump and why nobody else stepped in to prop it up. Expanding on this, they discuss how Biden, despite every campaign promise, has stayed in lockstep with Trump and demanded updated negotiations, before they conclude their interview by clarifying the role and theory behind the Abraham Accords in contrast with the Baghdad Dialogue, and how central Israel's obsession with being THE power of the Middle East has been to halting any progress. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma dive deeper into how the Highland Park shooter got his gun and Darren Bailey, IL GOP nominee for Governor, hosts a campaign rally minutes from the shooting to declare that we must “move on.” Sam addresses his role in preventing you from organizing by forcing you to watch the show instead, Dave Rubin struggles to make Sean Spicer laugh, and Joe Rogan explores his influence in a surprisingly honest manner. The crew reflects on Liz Cheney's denouncement of the “killing fields” that she sees reproductive health clinics as, Owen from LA discusses institutional dysfunction on the left, and Ronald Raygun asks what it would take to get Sam stuck between a rock and a wet place. Sam and Emma host Peter Shamshiri, or Law Boy on Twitter, co-host of the 5-4 Podcast, to discuss the recent Supreme Court term and what the big decisions mean for us going forward. Sam and Emma first run through the terrifying updates from this weekend, including a longer conversation on the Highland Park shooting (of the multiple mass shootings), Brittany Griner's plea to Biden, Ohio successfully forcing a 10-year-old to escape the state to terminate a pregnancy resulting from rape, and updates on Russia's bombing of a mall in Ukraine. Then, Peter Shamshiri joins as dive into the West Virginia v EPA case and the conservative Court's ultimate goal of unwinding the administrative state all the way back to the Lochner Era, looking at how the case addresses the Clean Air Act, claiming the EPA only has authority to police specific facilities rather than preemptively impose standards on the energy industry as a whole, even though the policy they were addressing had already been rolled back. Next, they look into the history of Justice Roberts' “Major Questions Doctrine,” first exploring the emergence of the Chevron Doctrine towards the end of the 20th Century asking that courts defer to administration on the interpretation of statutes, followed by the beginning of its undoing in an FDA case in the 2000s (despite the same court supporting it for Bush's EPA), before getting into the accelerated takedown of the Chevron doctrine throughout the pandemic, from the CDC's eviction moratorium to OSHA's workplace vaccine mandate. They then shift to the court granting cert to a North Carolina case addressing the independent state legislature theory, another idea that came to prevalence under John Roberts and during the Bush administration, central to Bush v. Gore (a project worked on by Roberts, Kavanaugh, and Coney Barrett), with an extended conversation on the worst (and most likely) outcomes from this case and the contrast it draws in undermining state courts and putting the powerfully in their own hands. They wrap up the interview with a conversation on the Dobbs case, this Court's emphasis on religious freedom and how it can shape a world where non-fundamentalists are ostracized, the absolute meaninglessness of the abortion “exemptions” in such a society, and the constitutional right to interstate travel. And in the Fun Half: Chris from the Bay Area calls in to discuss Sam's clear violation of Saul's Second Amendment rights by refusing to purchase him a genuine Kyber-crystal-powered lightsaber and to engage Emma's discussion on the BS abortion “exemptions” being pushed by Democrats. Diving deeper into this, Sam and Emma cover the Democratic Party's complete impotence in response to Dobbs, walking through the countless millionaires whose only reaction was, “gimme money and I'll do it next time.” Kowalski discusses the tropical twister that hit his Nebraskan farm last night, Sam and Emma walk through the wonderful GOP primary debate for AZ Governor, and Jordan Peterson holds back the tears as he gets banned from Twitter for deciding that Elliot Page must be held responsible for his transphobic fears, plus, your calls and IMs! This week I had the honor of speaking with Dr. Julia Steinberg, an Associate Professor of Family Science at the University of Maryland School of Public Health, to unpack the effect of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade on women's mental health. Julia Steinberg received a PhD in social psychology in 2008 from Arizona State University and completed the Charlotte-Ellertson postdoctoral fellow in reproductive health from 2008 to 2011 in the Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Steinberg then was a faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSF from 2011 to 2014. In January 2015, she joined the Department of Family Science. Steinberg's research is largely at the interplay of mental health and reproductive events or experiences. One line of research, which we talk about in depth, examines whether abortion causes or increases the risk of mental health problems. Another line of research we discuss looks at the role of mental health in unintended pregnancy. Also, make sure to check out Aid Access, an organization that supports women, girls, trans men, nonbinary and all people with an unwanted pregnancy to access an abortion or miscarriage treatment -- https://aidaccess.org/en/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/zoescurletis/support
In this episode continued the conversation about abortion that we began in episode 8. To help us understand the link between abortion and mental health, we were joined by Dr. Julia Steinberg, a professor and researcher at the University of Maryland's school of Public health. Dr. Steinberg studies whether abortion (and lack of abortion access) is linked to mental health problems and how mental health is associated with unintended pregnancy. The majority of the research about abortion in this episode has been taken from this review of the Turnaway study published by the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center, Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health. 英语新闻|美国堕胎药物需求量增长Since the US Supreme Court overturned the federal constitutional right to abortion, demand for medical abortions, done with pills and without the help of a doctor, has risen, an abortion-pill advocacy group says.美国某堕胎药物倡导组织表示,自从美国最高法院推翻了联邦宪法规定的堕胎权以来,堕胎药物的需求量增加,这种堕胎是在没有医生帮助的情况下使用药丸完成的。"We have heard from abortion pill providers that they have seen an increase in requests, especially for getting pills now to have on hand just in case," said Elisa Wells, co-founder of Plan C. "We saw traffic (on our website) surge to 209,000 visitors on the day of the decision, up from 3,400 the day before."C计划的联合创始人伊莉莎·威尔士表示:“我们从堕胎药片供应商那里听说,他们的需求大大增加了,特别是现在需要手头有药来以防万一。我们发现本公司网站的浏览量在美国最高法院作出决定的当天激增至20余万人,比前一天多出了3400人。”The court's ruling on June 24 immediately created uncertainty about how women could get access to terminations, particularly in states where "trigger laws" took immediate effect after the court's ruling, including Alabama, Kentucky and Utah.美国最高法院6月24日的裁决当即为女性堕胎权带来不确定性,尤其是在法院裁决后“触发法”立即生效的州,包括阿拉巴马州、肯塔基州和犹他州。Medication abortion, also known as plan C, is an abortion done with pills that a woman can take without the help of a doctor. However, about 19 states have laws that require a clinician to be present as she takes the medication.药物流产,也就是C计划,是一种使用药物进行流产的方式,女性可以在没有医生帮助的情况下服用。然而,美国有大约19个州的法律要求女性在服药时临床医生必须在场。To make the pills work, two drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol, are needed. Mifepristone works by blocking the hormone progesterone, needed for a successful pregnancy. Misoprostol is taken one or two days later and empties the uterus. Misoprostol alone can be used if mifepristone is unavailable. Last year the Food and Drug Administration removed the longstanding requirement that a woman must obtain mifepristone in person.去年,美国食品和药物管理局取消了女性必须亲自获取米非司酮的要求。In the US abortion pills are widely available with a prescription from a doctor or from an online pharmacy. They are safe and effective, studies show. Under federal law, the pills can then be delivered directly to where a person lives.在美国,堕胎药物可以通过医生处方或在线药店提供。研究表明,这些药物安全有效。根据联邦法律,这些药物可以送货上门。The pills, approved by the FDA for 20 years, work to terminate a pregnancy of up to 10 weeks. They also work beyond the 10-week mark, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists says.堕胎药物获得美国食品和药物管理局批准使用已经有20年,该药物可以终止长达10周的妊娠。美国妇产科学院表示,妊娠超过10周也有效。The pills are 95 to 98 percent effective in the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. They cost from $40 to $750, Planned Parenthood says. But their effectiveness reduces with gestation time.在怀孕的前10周,堕胎药物的有效率为95%至98%。计划生育协会表示,它们的价格从40美元到750美元不等,但药物有效性会随着妊娠时间的增加而降低。Women who want to terminate an abortion later in their term can take the pills accompanied by a doctor.想要在妊娠后期堕胎的女性需要在医生的陪同下服用药物。In 2020 at least 54 percent of all abortions were done with pills, not surgery, the research organization the Guttmacher Institute says. About 90 percent of abortions take place in the 13 weeks after a woman becomes pregnant.古特马赫研究所表示,至2020年,至少有54%的堕胎是通过药物而非手术完成的,其中大约90%的堕胎案例发生在女性怀孕后的13周内。Plan C offers an online US map showing which states have telehealth abortions. It says that women in states with restrictive abortion laws are gaining access to pills in a variety of ways, including buying from other states and getting it delivered.C计划提供了一张线上美国地图,可显示出哪些州可进行远程医疗堕胎。该地图显示,在有限制性堕胎法的州,女性正在以各种方式获得药物,包括从其他州购买并交付使用。"It is essential that people know that they can still access medication abortion pills by mail in all states," Wells said.威尔斯说:“重要的是,人们知道她们仍旧可以在所有州通过邮购的方式获得堕胎药物。”Some women have been choosing to get the pills from abroad without a prescription. Aid Access, an international telemedicine abortion provider founded by Rebecca Gomperts, a Dutch physician, said it will continue to mail pills to women in all US states.还有一些女性会选择在没有医生处方的情况下从国外获得堕胎药物。由荷兰医生丽贝卡·冈珀茨创立的国际远程堕胎医疗机构表示,将继续向美国所有州的女性邮寄药物。Several Republican states, including Kentucky, Oklahoma, Texas and Tennessee, want to restrict access to abortion pills further. President Joe Biden has pledged that he would work to ensure women have access to medication abortions nationwide. It's Casual Friday! Sam and Emma host Heather Digby Parton, contributing writer at Salon.com and proprietor of the blog Hullabaloo to round up the week in news. First, Sam and Emma dive into SCOTUS officially taking out a chunk from the administrative state, Biden's decision to nominate an anti-abortion judge to a federal bench, and the Republican desire to tell us that Dobbs changed nothing. Then, Digby joins as they get right into this week as a culmination of, at a MINIMUM, the last six years, assessing the decisions on Roe, gun control, and the EPA, and to hear a case next session on states' rights to send alternate electors despite vote tallies. Diving deeper into the state of the conservative court's commitment to the Independent State Legislature doctrine they explore Kavanaugh first citing this theory in 2020 via shadow docket as the culmination of minoritarian control, before getting into the reactions from the right and the surprise at their clear fear of electoral backlash. Next, they expand on the repercussions we're already seeing from the overturn of Roe, largely centered on the unreliability of exceptions, and whether doctors can take a risk that will jeopardize their career and freedom, and look to the Democrats', once again, stone-cold inaction, doing less in the wake of the biggest rollback of rights in US history than they did for anti-abortion Democrat Henry Cuellar. They wrap up the interview by assessing the obvious extremism in the Republican party, from Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas' recent statements that aborted babies can be found in the COVID-19 vaccine to everything we've seen at the 1/6 hearings, and the refusal of Biden to even consider his opposition anything but respectable as very representative of Democrats' messaging impotence. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma discuss Biden putting the feelers out for a second presidential campaign as Harris' replacement lane gets narrower and narrower, Liz Cheney has a congressional debate with a bunch of conspiracy theorists, and Jeff from Atlanta expands the discussion on Biden's anti-abortion judicial nomination. Dave Rubin proclaims himself as the “should-be conservative hero,” and Mike Cernovich confronts his demons and says, respectfully, no! Johnny from Houston talks calling racists racist, Pat the Hippie explores the future of Minnesotan politics, and Donald Trump takes responsibility for DeSantis' success (sowing the seeds of his own replacement!), plus, your calls and IMs! TW: abortion, sexual assault/rape, suicide (time stamp: 50:56-52:20), abortion ban impacts on BIPOC folks, white saviorism (time stamp: 1:03-1:04)This week we have an essential and educational conversation with the phenomenal Moji of @abortionfront . On 06/24/22, The US Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade, revoking the fundamental right to abortion. Firstly, I want to let you all know that I unequivocally stand against the SCOTUS ruling and will do whatever I can to stand for the right to choose and fight for people with uteruses to maintain their bodily autonomy. Additionally, I would like to give a few disclaimers. First off, this episode is CLEAN. We have chose to remove all curse words/bleep them out so that this episode can be more widely distributed. Second, this episode was recorded on 06/25/22. There has been more updated information since we recorded this episode, but we were working with the information we had. Third, we were lucky enough to have Moji and Marie on episode 33 of the podcast (link: https://open.spotify.com/episode/2n5pykMhAJoxNENoVYYOJn?si=be35207fca7c4206), so this is, in a way, a part 2 to that episode. If you are looking for more explanation of what abortion is, check out that episode! This episode will center primarily on Roe and what to do now. Moji and I wanted to sit down and have a conversation addressing this SCOTUS ruling and where we go from here. The first chunk of this conversation is Moji and I speaking about how we, as people with uteruses, have processed this decision. Please cope however you feel you need to. The second part of our conversation centers on what our reality is now that Roe has fallen. We aimed to have this conversation be productive, educational, and upfront. We also mention quite a few resources throughout this episode for both people who need abortion care and for those who want to support and fund the reproductive rights movement. Moji works for Abortion Access Front (@abortionfront on ALL platforms), and they are hosting Operation Save Abortion on July 17th to help train people to join the reproductive rights movement in the capacity they are able to. Go to https://www.aafront.org/operation-save-abortion/ for more info and to sign up! Our missing friend Marie also works for Midwest Access Coalition (@midwest_access_coalition), which is a practical access fund that funds travel costs, food, childcare, etc. for people needing to travel to an abortion (https://midwestaccesscoalition.org ). Lastly, Marie, Moji, & Lizz Winstead host Feminist Buzzkills Live Pod, which is a podcast centering on abortion in an honest and practical way (releases every Friday night). We also mentioned ineedana.com . This platform is used for people to locate clinics that can provide abortion care for you at your point in your pregnancy. We also plugged Plan C & Aid Access, which are both platforms that mail out abortion pills to your home. Lastly, we mentioned a few others, including emotional support from @underthedesknews. You can call 612-293-8550 to trauma dump and chat about your emotions about this decision. LASTLY! I have made a huge master doc with ALL things abortion including resources for people seeking an abortion, looking to learn more, and looking to support/fund abortion care etc etc etc! In 17th Century Paris, Catherine Monvoisin was a famous fortune-teller, poisoner, and practitioner of black magic. She helped Paris high society with their problems. Her poisons and black magic may have had a hand in murdering between 1,000 and 2,500 people. And then she got involved with a woman looking for help killing her lover -- King Louis IVX. That's where things got messy for La Voisin. Emma hosts Natasha Lennard, columnist at The Intercept, to discuss her recent reporting before, during, and after Roe V. Wade's overturning by the Supreme Court. Then, Emma is joined by Greg Casar, candidate for Congress in Texas's 35th District, to give us an update from the campaign trail. First, Emma dives into Biden's role as the passive PR president, finally coming along to back other people doing something about Roe, and she covers what a politician that actually has initiative looks like (AOC being the perfect example). Then she's joined by Natasha Lennard as she dives into us finally meeting the known horror of an overturned Roe, looking at how this decision will be enforced by exploring the genre of enforcement that has defined the US' police state throughout its history: an alliance between far-right vigilantism and a reactionary state – seen perfectly in Texas' civil bounty laws. Expanding on this, Lennard walks through the history of the vigilante groups, from lynchers in the Jim Crow south to slave patrols in the north, as a clear expression of the US elites' desire to maintain control of the bodily autonomy of Black people, women, and particularly Black women. Next, with help of the Daily Wire crew, they walk through the importance of antiracism and queer liberation in the fight for reproductive rights, before preparing for the Democratic tactic of calling the right “hypocritical” when they codify abortion prohibition on a national level, and wrapping up the interview by looking to the organizers and activists that have already set up the networks by which we must fight for the right to bodily autonomy. Greg Casar then joins as he dives into the response to Roe trigger laws as someone running for TX-35, and the importance of using your power to bend the arch towards justice, next looking to the importance of empathetic and open policy towards immigrants and solutions to the massive rent issues in the US today. And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Matt and Brandon as they dive into the difference between conspiracies used as a distraction, and conspiracies that need distracting from, Ben Shapiro says Trump cannot be held responsible for 1/6, because he can't be responsible for ANYTHING! Rob from NJ dives into the Daily Wire's step into cinema, Joe Rogan, with his finger ever on the prostate pulse of US reactionaries, comes out as pro-DeSantis. The crew dives into Roe's overturn, and the pointlessness (and points) of constantly questioning republicans about exceptions, and James from Ft. Worth starts a “Who's More Democratic” competition, plus, your calls and IMs! Sam and Emma host Mark Joseph Stern, senior writer at Slate, to discuss the recent bombshell SCOTUS opinions, and what other decisions remain to be issued. Then, they are joined by Matt Stoller, Director of Research at the American Economic Liberties Project and author of the BIG newsletter on SubStack, to discuss what's been going on at the Federal Trade Commission. First, Sam and Emma dive into Cassidy Hutchinson's testimony on Trump's request to let more armed protesters into the Capitol since “they're not here to hurt me,” and the Supreme Court allows Louisiana to redistrict around the disenfranchisement of African Americans. Then, they're joined by Mark Joseph Stern as he dives right into Carson v. Makin and the Supreme Court's decision to strike down a Maine requirement for private schools that received PUBLIC funding (largely due to lack of resources for public education in the area) to maintain a secular education, even though these schools are known to reject Muslim and Jewish students and ostracize children of same-sex couples. He, Emma, and Sam discuss how far Kavanaugh and Roberts could go in dismantling secularism and bolstering the funding for hyper-religious PUBLIC institutions. Next, they look to the Kennedy case in Washington, as the Supreme Court struck down the lemon doctrine in the case of a high school football coach coercing his players into Christian prayer. They first boil it down to the legal dispute, looking at the conservative justices' rejection of the “endorsement” of religion as a violation of the establishment clause, before they look to the factual dispute, covering the blatant lies that the conservative majority based their decision on, including ignoring student statements that they were ostracized for refusing to join the prayer, the fact that the coach spent over 50 games leading these prayers, despite only being penalized for the last three, and the fact that the coach voluntarily left the job in the wake of being placed on PAID administrative leave. They wrap up their interview by diving into the rapid manner by which the conservative justices' agenda is being passed, and look at the future of their agenda and the doctrines they'll look to overturn next. Then, Matt Stoller joins as he walks through the Financial Trade Commission's declaration to enforce the Robinson-Patman act requiring corporate middlemen to be paid exclusively for services rendered, looking at the role of Pharmaceutical Benefits Managers, how they extort the industry, and what role this might play in hindering future monopsonies, which leads them to a brief discussion on the monopsony of Minor League Baseball, the role MLB's anti-trust exemption plays in this, and what is being done to push the Majors to provide living wages to the futures of their sport. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma walk through Cassidy Hutchinson's extended testimony in front of the 1/6 committee, from Trump's desire to let more armed folks into the Capitol to Mark Meadows taking phone calls in secret on the day of. Tim from Rochester discusses being a High School football player, how coaches sell you a “divine dream,” and the absurdity of the recent SCOTUS ruling around that topic. Next, they look at some early horror stories around trigger laws in Dayton Ohio, and reflect on the Terri Schiavo case some decade and a half later. Emma discusses the anemic Democratic response to Roe, the Dem Leadership's game of pretend around what the Republicans' goals for reproductive rights actually are, and the crew covers some of the stupidest arguments about the hope inspired by Dobbs. Sam hosts William Forbath, Associate Dean for Research at the University of Texas at Austin Law School, and Joseph Fishkin, Professor at the UCLA School of Law, to discuss their recent book The Anti-Oligarchy Constitution: Reconstructing the Economic Foundations of Democracy. Sam first runs through recent updates, from AOC and progressives pushing the White House to take action on Roe and the discovery of 46 dead migrants in an abandoned San Antonio trailer, to the GOP's insistence that, no, fundamentally undermining reproductive rights in the country ISN'T important, and everything is basically the same. Then, he's joined by William Forbath and Professor Joseph Fishkin as they dive right into the state of the public's relationship to the US Constitution, with the left lacking a vision of how it functions within the political society and the right having successfully ingrained it as central to how the constitution shapes policy, before situating our political era as a second Gilded Age defined by economic and political inequality, and why the left's lack of a constitutional vision means that these are not seen as constitutional issues. Next, they trace the recent history of how the two US parties relate to the court, with the institutionalist liberals basking in the afterglow of the Warren court while the GOP, since at least Nixon, has seen opposition to the Court's “progressive” nature as central to their victories. Forbath and Fishkin then jump back to the founders, assessing how they weighed their beliefs of a judicial system as central to a functioning democracy while understanding that it had no right to overrule the will of the people via the legislature, seeing the constitution as a check on the concentration of power to be used against governmental institutions, and thus puts forward a duty to legislate against economic and political concentration. They then shift to the rise of the anti-slavery Republican Party in the mid 19th Century and their vacation of the South as any semblance of a base until they had begun to dismantle the concentration of economic and political power in the region with the prevalence of slave owners and the electoral role of the 3/5ths clause, moving into an era of egalitarian constitutionalism emphasizing checks on concentrations of economic and political powers and a distribution of opportunity that extends across race gender, that saw the Reconstruction amendments (despite clear loopholes) attempt to reshape the role of the constitution. Next comes the 20th Century, as they walk through the rise of federal courts in the wake of the industrial revolution and the simultaneous populist political movement that came out against the rising concentration of wealth, with Taft attempting to build up the Court's stature as it became clear they were on the side of the corporation, only for his (physical and meta) attempts to culminate during the reign of FDR after he forced the anti-democratic court into lockstep with him. They wrap up the interview by looking at the lasting effects of the post-FDR Warren Court, and the current shattering of the view of the courts as apolitical, before looking forwards to the upcoming judicial attacks against legislative capacities and how we can move forwards in a way that bolsters the will of the people rather than the deification of the Courts. And in the Fun Half: Sam interviews special guest Saul Seder on the state of the 3rd grade, parental rights in the state of Disney, the superiority of Jim Carrey over his father, and summarizes highlights from the 2022 little league season. Then Sam and the crew dive into Cassidy Hutchinson's surprise hearing for the 1/6 committee, Kamala Harris' only solution to the Dobbs decision being still holding midterm elections (rather than…?), and a GOP candidates' commitment to cop brotherhood by refusing to acknowledge the existence of rape. Rudy describes the reverberations of his assault, Hutchinson covers Trump's violent outbursts on and leading up to 1/6, and Russia goes after Ukrainian civilians, plus, your calls and IMs! Sam hosts Khiara M. Bridges, professor of law at the University of California, Berkeley, to discuss the recent overturning of Roe V. Wade and the repeal of concealed carry laws in New York State by the Supreme Court. First Sam reviews the standards set by this 6-3 conservative Supreme Court, overturning Roe and concealed carry laws while promoting single-religion prayer in public school, and the unsurprising result of an already unpopular court having it's approval ratings go into free fall, before covering MSNBC accidentally stumbling into Reproductive Rights activists that actually know the history of reproductive rights and the Democrats' fight (or lack thereof) for it. Then, he is joined by Professor Khiara Bridges as she dives into the actual state of the Dobbs decision, the difference between Alito's opinion to overturn Roe and Roberts' concurrence which saught to only address the ACTUAL question of the case on the viability line, and why the concepts the Court was addressing changed with the replacement of RBG with ACB. Next, they get into the role of the “Due Process” clause of the 14th Amendment, exploring how the leak went after this concept much more aggressively than the actual opinion and walking through the other elements of this Reconstruction amendment, and how this attempt to undermine the clause is still central to the opinion, just obscured in qualifier about what THIS case is doing, before Professor Bridges dives into the 9th Amendment and the legal establishment's refusal (from academia to the courts) to actually acknowledge the idea of rights of the public not previously enumerated in the Constitution. The professor then walks Sam through how the 14th Amendment's Due Process Clause has been interpreted as a right to privacy, via reason and logic, by previous courts dating back to the start of the 20th Century, and dives into the arbitrary algorithm set up by this Court to reject “new” rights on a case by case basis, wrapping up by exploring this algorithm's contrary implementation in the Bruen decision. And in the Fun Half: Sam admires Tulsi Gabbard's empathy and commitment to rationality by refusing to respond to the Roe decision (which definitely has nothing to do with her move to conservatism), Kristi Noem reminds us that every life is precious, unless that life could produce a white dude, and the LAPD finally get back to their roots of ruthlessly beating nonviolent protesters and journalists alike. SCOTUS shows us we have nothing to fear from their future by shooting tear gas from their roof, Chuck Todd gets awkward when AOC brings up holding justices accountable for their actions and statements, and Ronald Raygun reflects back on the Trump Cuck Rushmore with our recent 1/6 revelations. Rudy claims he was struck by a boulder only for video evidence to show who the real Sisy-phus is, James from CO calls in about a libertarian track to home ownership, plus, your calls and IMs! We knew it was coming, but the overturning of Roe v. Wade is still huge news, and sadly for Sarah, it's too hot to smoke. (Pardon the coughing.) Let's talk data: How do other countries handle abortion? Why wasn't abortion codified into law during Obama's presidency? What will a post-Roe America look like? And what's going on with that bounty-hunting law in Texas? Now let's talk complications: How can we support the choice to not have a baby without turning against motherhood, along with its challenges and rewards? How does the ideological comfort food of despair and outrage become a trap? And how can we understand the abortion debate as part of the modern battle (along with the trans movement, the fertility industry, and many other medical advancements) to control our own destinies? It's Casual Friday! Sam hosts Jamelle Bouie, opinion columnist at the New York Times and co-host of the Unclear and Present Danger podcast, to discuss his recent piece "The Gerontocracy of the Democratic Party Doesn't Understand That We're at the Brink." First, Sam dives right into the Supreme Court's overturning of the half-century precedent of Roe v. Wade as the first major rollback of any established right in US history, the thirteen trigger laws it enacts, and the future of reproductive health when healthcare professionals are forced to weigh they own well being and security in making decisions. Jamelle Bouie then joins as he and Sam dive right into the growing divide between establishment Democrats and younger progressives in just acknowledging the horrendous state of our politics, as seen in Whip Clyburn's official response to the Roe decision stating that it was “anti-climactic,” and take on the role of the Gerontocratic leadership of the Democratic party and their ossified perspective on how politics can and does function in the 21st Century, from Pelosi's requests for a “strong Republican party” to Biden's praising of McConnell's integrity. Next, Bouie dives into his recent research into the Republican party that preceded today's neoconservatism and their shift to hard-edged partisanship, contrasting this with the Democrats' desire to triangulate in politics, as we saw with Hillary's comments on sacrificing trans people for the integrity of anti-democratic institutionalism, and refusal to acknowledge that, yes, the GOP does mean what they say. After a conversation on the future of this fight, and the other big fights coming down the SCOTUS pipeline, Sam and Jamelle wrap up the interview by assessing the 1/6 hearings, Mike Pence, and the Democratic leadership's attempted creation of right-wing heroes. Sam further dives into the other precedents (Griswald, Casey, Loving, etc) that are put in question by this decision and the absurdity of Thomas' argument that this won't set a precedent… while encouraging an extension of this decision to future cases. And in the Fun Half: Sam explores the meaning behind the Majority Report name, James Carville asks for our help, and House Democrats sing God Bless America for some unknowable reason. Katie from Providence dives deeper into the subjectivity around the abortion “exemptions,” and how the objective nature of the punishment for abortions will easily overshadow them. The O+G Advocates welcome Jennifer Villavicencio, MD, MPP to discuss the intersection of racism and the anti-abortion movement. As the country prepares for the SCOTUS decision on Dobbs v Jackson, which will likely overturn the federally protected right to abortion, Dr. Villvicencio discussed how we got here in history and why abortion restriction is born out of racism. Tune in to hear the predictions of how bad it will be, and listen in to find community and hope in the advocacy still to be done. As we're all painfully aware, in the US we're currently under threat of the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling being overturned (!!). This ruling established women's rights to access abortion, and if it's overturned, it could potentially leave a lot of people who can get pregnant (especially in midwestern and southeastern states) without access to abortion clinics. In this potentially gnarly moment in history for bodily autonomy, the good news is that we have a lot of options regardless of what's happening in politics! This includes, of course, the birth control we're familiar with, as well as some options we may not be educated on, such as practicing the fertility awareness method and accessing certain aid networks for abortion. We're joined by fertility awareness educator Atchie Bernstein to dive into these topics & help us step back into our power! Links: Aid Access Atchie's website & booking contact or reach out to her on Instagram Samantha Zipporah's Please Bleed book & Fruit of Knowledge platform Medicine stories Cycle tracking episode Show notes: Interweaving bodily autonomy & sustainability: Lowering our waste, self-reliance without need for potentially unavailable medical system, becoming more self reliant beings within more self reliant systems The Fertility Awareness method: understanding our window of fertility using a sympto-thermal method (tracking basal body temperature & cervical mucus). The fertility awareness method & the rhythm method are two distinctly different methods. FAM gives us a powerful window into overall hormonal health, conscious contraception - can use chart to know if time of sperm exposure & gives time to choose early appropriate methods for contraception - in much earlier window to make decisions for yourself! Knowledge is power: being aware of our choices & fully informed on all options is the way to go. Femtech & the dangers of relying on an app to give us a red or green light Connecting with our cycles & giving our moon blood back to nature: the only bloodshed that's not through violence Taking our power back: This is a powerful form of resistance to go against these stigmas & taboos that tell us our cycles are to be feared. Dealing with an unwanted sperm exposure: being prepared by charting, Plan B isn't effective if you've already ovulated (it only works to delay ovulation, which gets you outside of the window in which sperm could survive), Plant options for implantation inhibitors (more detail in the Medicine Stories episode & by consulting an herbalist) include Queen Anne's lace Medication pregnancy release options: available without any contact with medical professionals or clinics through Aid Access (can now order in advance in case you need them) or local networks of people with access to those medications such as abortion doula networks with confidential contacts. Reach out to Atchie for these contacts if you need contacts.

The federal government stated that Sub-Saharan Africa could require as much as $60 billion to access reliable electricity and clean cooking facilities between now and 2030. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, noted that an annual investment of around $35 billion could bring electricity access to 759 million Africans who currently lack it. Sylva added that another $25 billion a year could help 2.6 billion people globally to access clean cooking by 2030. He stressed that the required investment represents only a small fraction of the multi-trillion-dollar global energy investment needed overall.
In December 1978, 6 men wearing black ski masks and driving a stolen van broke into the cargo terminal at JFK Airport in New York. They were there to steal a whole lot of money and carry out what is still the largest cash robbery ever committed on US soil. Today we're talking about the Lufthansa Heist, the New York Mob in the 1970s and 1980s, and everything in between. A post-Roe America could become a reality soon, if Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito's draft ruling becomes the court's final decision. From the West Alabama Women's Center in Tuscaloosa, Robin Marty tells Andy how the decision would impact her patients from day one, and urges Americans with privilege to consider how far they'll go to protect the rights of others. Andy asks Columbia Law School professor Carol Sanger which of Alito's arguments stuck out to her and what people can do today to help bring the right to choose back to states that may lose it.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused courts—previously slow to adopt new technology—to leap into prioritizing digital services. As legal aid and court services increase the use of online tools, there is a concern that people without access to technology and high-speed internet will be left behind. This gap, referred to as the “digital divide,” is the topic of the latest Talk Justice episode.

In this week's episode, we talk about SB8 (senate bill 8) that was passed in Texas on Sept. 1, 2021, what it is, and our opinions on it. If you or anyone you know need help getting an abortion you can visit Plancpills.org and Aidaccess.org. There is a hotline 1-800-772-9100 on prochoice.org open Monday-Friday 8 am-7 pm est and Saturday-Sunday 8 am-4 pm est. Also, plannedparenthood.org has many resources like information on clinic locations, birth control, morning-after pill, std testing and treatment, and much more. Hope to see you next week and don't forget to follow us on Instagram @mixedkidclub Lastly sorry about the echo in the back currently working on getting a better audio system.
On September 1, Texas enacted S.B. 8, an outrageous abortion ban that not only amounts to an effective total ban on abortions, but creates a bizarre bounty hunter situation where anyone can sue another person for assisting someone who has an abortion after six weeks of pregnancy - and be rewarded with $10,000 plus attorney fees if they succeed. In a country of draconian abortion laws, this is the most wack-a-doodle one yet, and probably the scariest - as the Supreme Court, in a signal of how they plan to treat any challenges to Roe (the next of which happens next month), declined to strike the law down. Things are heating up in Gilead, and it's not good. Here to talk about what's going on in Texas is Elisa Wells, co-founder of Plan C Pills. Plan C Pills is a website that provides information on how Americans, in any state, can access abortion pills online. Elisa explains what's going on in Texas, how access is similarly limited in other states, and how mail-order abortion pills can help. No matter what state you're in, you can access abortion pills by mail, and Plan C can help you figure out how. Elisa also discusses tons of resources for legal questions, medical questions, and general support related to seeking or completing a medicine abortion. Lastly and importantly, we discuss how you can help by spreading the word and donating to organizations increasing equitable access to abortion in Texas and all over the United States. Please check out the resources linked in the notes (below) and help us get the word out. The new National Education Policy (NEP), approved by the Union Cabinet last week, seeks to align itself with the Sustainable Development Goal of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all in the next 20 years. The policy has brought into its ambit children in the age group of 3 to 18 years. There are concerns that the policy abandons the state's commitments under the RTE Act.
