A salient point of discussion revolves around the contentious issue of pitch preparation and its implications for teams seeking home advantage. The hosts explore the contrasting strategies employed by various franchises, mainly the dissatisfaction expressed by teams such as Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders regarding their curators' decisions. Furthermore, they highlight standout performances from players such as Sai Sudarshan and Mohammed Siraj, illuminating the evolving dynamics of the league. As the conversation unfolds, the trio contemplates the broader ramifications of these developments on team strategies and the overall competitive landscape of IPL 2025.LinkCricInspo by Ben Brettell | Substack
In this episode of the show, Raj and Stu look back at two midweek games: Punjab Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Gujarat Titans. We start by discussing the most recent game, which saw Gujarat spoil Raj's return to our IPL coverage with a dominant win in Bengaluru. Mohammed Siraj knocked the top off the RCB batting lineup and despite a recovery through the middle and a messy fielding performance from GT, it turned out that 169 wasn't close to enough. Sai Sudharsan set the platform for GT in the powerplay, before Jos Buttler's 73 guided them home. Next we move to Punjab's impressive win against LSG. There's talk about Shreyas Iyer's excellent run of form, PBKS's Indian core doing the business, LSG's absences, Nicholas Pooran's ball-striking and whether it's time to start worrying about Rishabh Pant's lack of runs. To finish, there's a quick look ahead to the upcoming SRH v KKR clash - a 2024 final rematch that now shapes as an important fixture for different reasons in 2025. There's something about this GABBA Test that feels definitive. In this series, each team has exerted their will. Both have been bent. Who's going to break? There's so much baked in in Brisbane. The increasing pantomime villainy of Mohammed Siraj. The growing aura of Jasprit Bumrah. Not-quite-secret Josh Hazelwood sessions. Pat Cummins and co. rising to the moment. An always big series is feeling even bigger. We're heading to Queensland to get ourselves primed. Featured: Quentin Hull, commentator, ABC Sport. Subscribe to the ABC Sport Newsletter

Hello and welcome to Club Prairie Fire, Season 9 episode 7. We are BFF's of tequila, tabasco and the Duckworth Lewis Stern System. This episode we are calling, “Good to be winners” That's right folks, on this humble little podcast populated by 2 Englishmen, Vaughany and Ollie, and 2 Aussies, Gilly and The Professor, we support two teams, the Green and Gold Goliaths that are Australia and the Three Roaring Lions of Mighty England and this week, for both sides, they did it in a canter. Thats right, we've got all the news and views from a ten Wicket Victory for the Aussies and a 323 Run Drubbing for the Poms. We dive head first into the Adelaide test where it was absolute madness, wickets were falling first ball, bowlers were sending batsmen who scored run a ball centuries and beer snakes were stealing the show. Also, we take a good look over at the Basin Reserve where a pair of Yorkshiremen went at over 5 runs an over to ensure the english lads could hit the links on both days 4 and 5. As always, nothing too serious and plenty of cricket banter, this is Club Prairie Fire. In this episode of the show, Baldy and Stu review the first Test of the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, which saw India start slowly but then roar back to dominate Australia and make a number of significant statements at Optus Stadium. We talk about Jasprit Bumrah's leadership (and his magnificent bowling), the patience and application shown by KL Rahul & Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Virat Kohli's return to form. There are questions about where it all went wrong for Australia, what to do with Marnus Labuschagne, as well as praise for their bowlers - Josh Hazlewood in particular - along with declarations, DRS decisions, debutants and much more as we unpack this fascinating game. We'll be back in your feed again in the next 24 hours with our initial reaction to the IPL mega auction, and then at the conclusion of the first Test in the Black Caps v England series. New Zealand have held their nerve to record one of their best wins in almost 95 years of test cricket. The loss of their skipper from the second ball of the fifth day didn't worry the tourists, nor the probing of a fearsome Indian attack buoyed by a frenzied atmosphere in Bengaluru. Instead, two players with a combined 25 tests' experience coolly and methodically worked their way towards a 107-run target to secure an eight-wicket victory, the Black Caps' third from 37 matches in India. Will Young (48no) and Rachin Ravindra (39no)survived a new ball that was seaming and swinging then negated a deteriorating pitch offering variable turn, seeing off a unit boasting three of the top six-ranked bowlers in the world. And they did it with barely a scare – one batter in the team only owing to an injury for Kane Williamson and the other playing his first test in the city of his parents' birth. It was a victory built on an outstanding initial four sessions, skittling the hosts for 46 before piling on 402 in reply. But India responded by plundering 462in their second innings, setting up a tricky chase exacerbated by the loss of new captain Tom Latham and fellow opener Devon Conway in the first hour. No matter – Young and Ravindra, putting together an unbeaten partnership of 75 runs from 92 balls, made it appear easy. History suggested that was hardly the case. This was New Zealand's first triumph in India since Sir Richard Hadlee took 10-88 – his fifth-best match figures – while leading a 136-run victory at Wankhede in 1988. That win came 19 years after their first in Nagpur, a 167-run success during their third trip to the country. Now, with two tests to play, the tourists have a chance to avoid a series defeat in India – a feat they have managed twice in 14 attempts. They are far from alone in their struggles. India have lost four of 48 tests at home in the last 10 years, twice to Australia and twice to England. This Indian team currently lead the World Test Championship, having won eight of 11 matches in the current cycle, while the Black Caps entered on a four-test losing streak that spurred a captaincy change. Add in the absence of Williamson alongside the side's recent struggles offshore – earning only seven test wins away from home in the last decade – and this triumph would be bettered by few since New Zealand played their first test in 1930. The way the day began emphasised the degree of difficulty in securing such a treasured result. After surviving a huge shout from Jasprit Bumrah's third delivery of the innings on the fourth night, Latham was less lucky from an unplayable second ball on the fifth morning. That ball was moving about in a manner to quicken Kiwi pulses, while a boisterous crowd joined the players in appealing anything close. The Black Caps were under pressure from Mohammed Siraj. Photo / Photosport The first half-hour disappeared in a blink as the Black Caps crept within 100, Young soon flicking Mohammed Siraj off his pads for the first boundary of the innings from the 48th delivery. The unflappable right-hander was batting with a level of composure that belied his international inexperience, carving Siraj through backward point before pulling him for a second boundary of the 12th over. But just when the crowd had been quietened, Bumrah angled one in to beat Conway, clip his back pad and, upon review, send him back to the pavilion. New Zealand never missed a beat. Ravindra was under way with two boundaries in three balls, having cracked in second test hundred in the first innings and having proven at last year's ODI World Cup he thrived in the big moment. After pulling within 50, Kuldeep Yadav was introduced as the second of India's formidable spin trio. Young ended his first over by coming down the track and flicking him over the fence. The 31-year-old did escape on 34, when Ravindra Jadeja put down a tough return catch, but that fortune was well deserved. As was the boundary he then cut to collect the winning runs. - by Kris Shannon, NZ HeraldSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This series is India's chance to rev up its engine and fortify its spot at the summit of the 2025 World Test Championship table. India has named a 15-man squad with four reserve players under Rohit Sharma's leadership for the T20 World Cup 2024. While the top order is heavily stacked with experienced veterans like Rohit, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar, the squad is completed by four spinners, three pacers, and two wicketkeepers. There was a joy for Sanju Samson and Yuzvendra Chahal, but despair for Rinku Singh, one of India's brightest T20 finds, who was dropped to reserves when the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee finalized India's squad in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Before the IPL began, Rinku was a top contender for the T20 World Cup squad, known for his finishing skills akin to MS Dhoni's. In his 15 T20Is for India, he's scored 356 runs at an impressive average of 89 and a striking rate of 176.23. But the star finisher was dropped to the reserves when the final squad was announced. It remains to be seen who will fulfil the finisher's job in the World Cup in Rinku's absence, as Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja have both struggled recently. One of the wicketkeepers, either Sanju Samson or Rishabh Pant, will have to do it. Shivam Dube has earned his maiden call-up with first-choice all-rounder Hardik Pandya named vice-captain. With spin likely to play a significant role in Caribbean conditions, Chahal's inclusion could prove vital. However, the composition of the final lineup, particularly regarding the batting order, remains a decision for the team management. Concerns also linger over India's pace bowling stocks, with Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh not being in the best of their forms in IPL 2024. Will India miss Rinku Singh's services, and how will the final playing XI shape up once the tournament begins in the Carribean? Saurabh Kumar, Akshay Ramesh, and Sabyasachi Chowdhary discuss how strong is India's T20 World Cup squad in the latest episode of Sledging Room Podcast.

In this episode of the show, Binksy, Baldy, Stu and Raj preview the IPL tournament, covering Mumbai, Punjab, Rajasthan, RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad.Wall-to-wall T20 cricket is about to begin, with the IPL followed by the T20 World Cup and in this episode (part 2 of 2) we focus on five teams, discussing squad news, why each team can win, potential weaknesses, key players and predicted finishing order. We also give our overall tournament predictions, including semi-finalists, champions and the winners of the purple and orange caps.Teams covered are:Mumbai Indians: Mumbai have arguably the best batting lineup in the competition, stacked with local talent. There's the return of Hardik Pandya and what that might mean for the harmony of the side with him taking the captaincy from Rohit Sharma, plus a few question marks about their spinners - but does that even matter when Jasprit Bumrah is in your side?Punjab Kings: There's an English flavour to this squad, with Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Chris Woakes and Sam Curran all set to feature during the tournament. Add the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada and Harshal Patel to that and the bowling attack looks solid, but can Shikhar Dhawan and co score enough runs to take them to the playoffs?Rajasthan Royals: T20 opening partnerships don't get much better than Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler, and the addition of Shane Bond to the coaching staff has the New Zealanders excited for 2024. There's great spin depth, batting firepower and lovely Trent Boult, but where are the allrounders?Royal Challengers Bangalore: Virat Kohli! Faf du Plessis! Glenn Maxwell! Cameron Green! Mohammed Siraj! The RCB lineup won't be short on matchwinners, but who will fill the fourth overseas spot in the XI? And will their bowling lineup be able to defend anything under 200?Sunrisers Hyderabad: It was a busy auction for Daniel Vettori and the Orange Army. Pat Cummins joined as captain, plus Travis Head and Wanindu Hasaranga to round out a remarkably strong collection of 8 overseas players. Which four will they choose from game to game? We debate this, plus discuss whether Umran Malik can get back to his best, how much we'll miss Dale Steyn's hair and whether Captain Cummins's golden run is set to continue in 2024. India v England, Ranchi Day 1: Wait a minute. That looked suspiciously like an excellent day of conventional Test cricket. Akash Deep started his Test career with not one but several bangs, after a misfire. Mohammed Siraj bowled some pearls. Ravindra Jadeja got the pitch to play tricks. And through it all, Joe Root stood supreme with another classic innings, while Ben Foakes and latterly Ollie Robinson did their part. Is that stumps score a good one? Nobody has any idea. Yas Rana and Phil Walker reflect on a thrilling first day in Ranchi, headlined by Joe Root's 31st Test century. Akash Deep made an immediate impression on debut, dismissing England's top three in a stunning new ball burst, before Bairstow and Stokes both fell to spin to leave England 112-5 at lunch. The afternoon belonged to Root though, who knuckled down and cleverly crafted one of the best centuries of his glittering Test career in tricky conditions. Ben Foakes played brilliantly at the other end for his 47, while Tom Hartley and Ollie Robinson also offered important resistance. England finished the day on 302-7, with Root unbeaten on 106*. 0:00 Recap / 1:20 Joe Root / 12:43 Pitch / 20:56 Ben Foakes / 27:07 Akash Deep / 31:24 Mohammed Siraj / 36:02 Rohit's captaincy / 38:19 Looking ahead to tomorrow You can follow Wisden Cricket on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok: https://www.facebook.com/WisdenCric https://www.instagram.com/wisden_cricket/ https://twitter.com/WisdenCricket https://www.tiktok.com/@wisdencricket The latest issue of Wisden Cricket Monthly is available now at https://wisden.com/shop/wisden-cricket-monthly-issue-75 The digital version of the magazine is also available for just £2 a month at https://pocketmags.com/wisden-cricket-monthly-magazine#5c1cd17fa0b05 #Cricket #IndianCricket #EnglandCricket Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of the show, Baldy, Stu and Binksy discuss the recent Test matches between India and England, and New Zealand against South Africa.India levelled the series, and the pitches so far have made for two excellent Tests - but why are England proving such a tough opponent for the home side and their star-studded spinners? There's plenty of chat about England's approach, the young spin trio of Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley and Shoaib Bashir, Yashasvi Jaiswal's double hundred, Shubman Gill performing under pressure, Ben Foakes' wicket-keeping and of course the brilliance of Jasprit Bumrah. As we move to New Zealand shores, there's praise for the likes of Rachin Ravindra, Kane Williamson and Mitchell Santner, but is there anything to be learned from a series against a clearly under-strength South African side? And should the points even count towards the World Test Championship? We also gaze ahead to the next Tests in both series, with Daryl Mitchell looking at an extended absence for the Black Caps, plus Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja likely to return for India. We'll be back again next week with more news and views, but until then please take the time to give us a like, follow, share or subscribe on all our channels (@toporderpod on Twitter & Facebook, and @thetoporderpodcast on Instagram & YouTube) and a (5-Star!) review at your favourite podcast provider, or tell a friend to download. India won the shortest Test match in the history of Test cricket, as they overcame South Africa and an absolutely dreadful pitch. This levelled the series at 1-1, and lead to a big debate about pitches and what is appropriate. Props to Aiden Markram and Mohammed Siraj, who put in star performances. Shreyas Iyer and Lokesh Rahul scored attacking hundreds to help India make it nine wins in nine games with a 160-run victory over the Netherlands in the final group-stage match at the Cricket World Cup today. Iyer hit his first World Cup century, scoring 128 not out off 94 balls, while Rahul smashed the fastest Indian hundred at a World Cup, as India piled on the runs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The pair put on 208 runs off 21 overs for the fourth wicket. Rahul scored 100 off 62 balls, beating Rohit Sharma's 63-ball record against Afghanistan in Delhi earlier in this tournament. In all, the two-time champions had five batters scoring 50-plus in their innings, and finished at 410-4, the fifth highest World Cup total. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gil put on 100 for the first wicket. Virat Kohli was out for 51 but will likely remember this match for claiming his first ODI wicket in almost a decade. Jasprit Bumrah (2-33) and Mohammed Siraj (2-29) shared four wickets as the Dutch were dismissed for 250 in 47.5 overs. India advanced to the semifinals with a perfect 18 points from nine wins. They will play fourth-place New Zealand in the first semifinal at Mumbai on Wednesday. Second-place South Africa will play third-place Australia in the second semifinal at Kolkata the following day. The Netherlands finished 10th in the standings, despite their two upset wins against South Africa and Bangladesh. India made a fast start after Sharma won the toss. Sharma made 61 off 54 balls, including eight fours and two sixes. Gill scored 51 off 32 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes. Gill was first out, holing to square leg off Paul van Meekeren. It brought Kohli to the crease with a loud cheer from the anticipating crowd. Kohli struggled to time the ball properly before finding his rhythm and hitting 51 off 56, including five fours and a six. He went atop the most runs' standings – 594 in nine matches, ahead of South Africa's Quinton de Kock (591 runs in nine matches). At the other end, Sharma was out caught at long on as India was down to 129-2 after a fast start. Iyer and Kohli then put on 71 off 66 for the third wicket. Just as Kohli had found his rhythm, Roelof van der Merwe stunned the partisan Indian crowd in the 29th over. He bowled the star batter, who was searching for a record 50th ODI hundred. The score read 200-3 at that time and the Iyer-Rahul stand wasn't then broken till the final over. Iyer scored his first 50 off 48 balls, and then accelerated to score the next 50 off 36 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes in this part. He scored another 28 off the last 10 balls faced. Rahul was even more impressive in his acceleration. He got to 50 off 40 balls, and then to 100 off another 22 balls – in all, he hit 11 fours and four sixes. India scored 126 runs for one wicket in the final 10 overs to finish with the tournament's second-highest total. It was also India's second-highest total in World Cups after 413-5 against Bermuda in 2007. In reply, Netherlands gave a good account but their batting lacked the firepower needed to seriously challenge India's score. Sybrand Engelbrecht scored 45 off 80, including four fours. He also finished as the Netherlands' top run-scorer in the tournament with 300 runs in eight games, including two half-centuries. Max O'Dowd (30) and Collin Ackermann (35) put on 61 runs for the second wicket, the highest partnership of the Dutch innings. Their biggest highlight was when Kohli came on to bowl and dismissed Scott Edwards for 17, caught behind down leg side. It was Kohli's first ODI wicket since January 2014. Sharma wasn't too far behind, also picking up a wicket. Teja Nidamanuru holed out to long on after scoring 54 off 39 balls, including six sixes. Mohammed Shami went wicketless in his six overs, after picking up 16 wickets in the previous four games. Spinners Kuldeep Yadav (2-41) and Ravindra Jadeja (2-49) made their presence felt.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Hi there! Welcome to Episode 232 of Never on the Backfoot Podcast. India produced an enormous seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in Ahmedabad, wrapping up the dominant victory with 117 balls to spare. Pakistan lost eight wickets for 36 runs as they collapsed from 155/2 to 191 all out before Rohit Sharma's outstanding 86 helped steer his team to victory. Five Indian bowlers were among the wickets, all taking two apiece, with Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav sparking the collapse with superb spells, after Mohammed Siraj had prised out the key wicket of Babar Azam. Babar top-scored with a fine half-century, his first in ODIs against India, but needed to captain spectacularly and hope for brilliance from his bowlers to deny India in their chase of such a relatively low target. And Rohit's sublime knock at the top of the order made India's reply extremely comfortable, with Shreyas Iyer bringing up his own half-century with the winning runs. In this episode, we look at all major talking points and takeaways from this much anticipated Indo-Pak match! On the Podcast today, we have Sanchit Desai, an active member and content creator for Bharat Army. India has eased concerns over their World Cup preparation with solid performances in the Asia Cup, which finished with a resounding win over Sri Lanka in the final. Mohammed Siraj picked 6 for 21, the fourth-best figure by an Indian bowler, to bowl Sri Lanka out for only 50.Shubman Gill finished as the leading run-scorer in the tournament, while Rohit Sharma stood out with three successive half-centuries. Virat Kohli was outstanding in the Super 4 match against Pakistan, hitting his 47th ODI hundred. At the same time, KL Rahul returned to international cricket with a superb hundred against Pakistan and a gritty knock against Sri Lanka the next day.India has resolved most of their issues, but their bench strength remains a concern. Against Bangladesh, India had rested several of their first-choice players and lost by six runs despite a Gill hundred.Things are looking good for some of India's young players. Gill is quickly closing the gap with Babar Azam for the top spot in the ICC rankings for batters, while Mohammed Siraj stormed to No.1 from No.9 after his destructive spell in the final on Sunday.Meanwhile, Pakistan has some severe issues to address. Their overt reliance on the top three in the batting order proved costly against India and Sri Lanka. The pace attack, the team's pride, failed against India. It appears that Naseem Shah will be ruled out of the World Cup.Despite their No.1 ranking, Pakistan is clearly not the team to beat in this World Cup.Akshay Ramesh and Saurabh Kumar join Rajarshi Gupta in another scintillating episode of the Sledging Room.Tune in!Produced by Anna PriyadarshiniSound mix by Sachin Dwivedi
Just how good was Mohammed Siraj? What positives can India take from the Asia Cup? Are there any lessons for the upcoming World Cup for Pakistan and Sri Lanka? The rain gods played spoilsport on the fifth day of the Ashes and the final day of India vs West Indies but India bagged the series 1-0. There were plenty of positives for Rahul Dravid-coached side, like Yashasvi Jaiwal's successful debut, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's return to form and Mohammed Siraj leading the attack. However, now the focus will shift to the ODI series with the World Cup on the horizon. The team would love to see Sharma-Kohli's form to continue in a shorter format. But who should don the gloves? Sanju Samson or Ishan Kishan? Will Suryakumar Yadav get another chance in the ODIs? Amol Karhadkar and Amol Gokhale analyse in this episode of Saaptahik CCBK…
The 2023 ODI World Cup to be played in India is less than three months away. But is the Indian team ready? There isn't much time and now is as good a time as any to delve deep into India's preparedness for cricket's showpiece event which returns to Asia after 12 years.India had of course won the World Cup in 2011 which was co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Back then, India had a solid side ready for the World Cup with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni in superb form. Besides, the team had plenty of bowling options in the playing XI.Rohit Sharma's team has issues. Yes, they started the year well with series wins over Sri Lanka and New Zealand but they were beaten by Australia. Rohit Sharma hasn't played a lot of ODIs after the pandemic while Virat Kohli is still struggling to get his mojo back, never mind those hundreds against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. To make matters worse, Suryakumar Yadav has not set the ODI stage on fire despite his heroics in T20Is. He bagged three golden ducks in the series against Australia but given his heroic return to form for Mumbai Indians, India would be hoping he is in fine form for the rest of the year. Rishabh Pant, a high-impact player in the middle-order is racing against time to be fit for the World Cup following a car crash in December. Moreover, India's bowling resources will also be in focus. Jasprit Bumrah, who destroyed England with a six-wicket haul in July last year, has been away from action for a long time. The focus will be on Mohammed Siraj to lead the pace attack while the likes of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal could end up playing crucial roles. Also on the Sledging Room, a look into England's fightback against Australia at Leeds. And as India start their third cycle of the World Test Championship, can Yashasvi Jaiswal cement his place in the side? Will Shubman Gill be a suitable replacement for Cheteshwar Pujara? Will Rohit Sharma, the India Test captain, answer his critics with some solid performances?Saurabh Kumar and Alan John join Rajarshi Gupta in a riveting debate on the latest episode of the Sledging Room.Tune in!Produced by Anna PriyadarshiniSound mix by Sachin Dwivedi
Team India will begin their 2023-25 World Test Championships (WTC) cycle with a two-Test tour of the Caribbean. There will be a new face at No. 3 for the Indian cricket team. The only unknown is whether it will be Yashasvi Jaiswal or Ruturaj Gaikwad or Shubman Gill. Who will spearhead the bowling attack with Mohammed Siraj? Will Mukesh Kumar get an opportunity? But what about the ‘Big Guns' of India? How crucial is this series for the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane? And what about the opposition, what sort of a fight will they put up? Amol Karhadkar, Aditya Joshi and Amol Gokhale do a preview of the West Indies tour in this episode of Saaptahik CCBK…
In this episode of the show, we look back at the World Test Championship final, which saw Australia defeat India to claim the title. We discuss the selections - most notably India leaving Ravichandran Ashwin on the bench - the toss, the pitch, the over rates, the format and even some of the actual cricket in what proved a fascinating contest, despite Australia holding the upper hand by tea on Day 1.There's praise for the brilliant partnership between Travis Head and Steve Smith, questions about India's decision to bowl Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami for the entire first hour on Day 1, and a conversation about Scott Boland to discover what makes his performances at Test level so impressive. We also touch on the controversy surrounding Cameron Green's catch - and Shubman Gill's reaction - the brilliance of Steve Smith's catch to dismiss Virat Kohli, and completely forget to mention the two fighting knocks by Ajinkya Rahane or the fact that Daniel Vettori made sure at least one New Zealand hand remained on the mace.To round out the show, Stu discusses the talking points from the Black Caps' contract list - most notably the absence of Ajaz Patel and Jimmy Neesham, and potentially some good news for those hoping to see Trent Boult back in black more regularly over the next 12 months.Hot on the heels of this episode, we'll be back again with a full preview of the Ashes. It's a new year but same Top Order Podcast, as we recap the final week of 2020. Baldy starts the show (0:45) with a deep dive into the BBL table and a few players who've caught the eye so far in that tournament, including Ollie Davies and Tanveer Sangha, before a quick review of the first South Africa/Sri Lanka Test, where injuries played a big part and Faf du Plessis's 199 set up a big win for the Proteas. We ask whether NZ needs to push for longer Test series, and ask whether David Warner, Steve Smith and Shakib al Hasan deserved to be honoured in ICC Teams of the Decade. As we move to the Australia v India series (24:00), we discuss a stunning response from India at the MCG to level the series. Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravi Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane all receive praise, Binksy signals a momentum shift, Baldy comes off the long run about Australian team selection and Raj talks about himself in the third person. We wrap up the show with the thrilling Boxing Day Test at Bay Oval (47:20), where the Blackcaps beat Pakistan just before time expired on Day 5. Kane Williamson moves to #1 in the Test rankings, Neil Wagner has all of us glowing and Mitchell Santner has us discussing a spinner taking the final wicket for NZ in home conditions. Pakistan, with the likes of Mohammad Rizwan, Fawad Alam, Faheem Ashraf and ‘Charlie' Shaheen Shah Afridi, played their part in an excellent Test, but do we give them any chance to level the series? A massive thanks to everyone who has listened to us so far - it really means a lot. If you're a new listener to the podcast, check out our back catalogue. This episode of the show finds us still struggling to get our heads around the Australia v India Test in Adelaide, so we call in one of the best cricket writers in the business to help us make sense of it all. Formerly with the Indian Express and now with CricBuzz, Bharat Sundaresan is also a Penguin Random House author, publishing The Dhoni Touch in 2018. Bharat describes the mad scramble for pads on Day 3 as we process India's shocking collapse and discuss how they can move forward and still compete for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With the departure of Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami, plus journalists and fans alike calling for wholesale changes, we shine the spotlight on Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Rishabh Pant and other contenders, before an extended chat about 'Spin Scientist' Ravi Ashwin and the fascinating Cheteshwar Pujara v Nathan Lyon battle. There's breaking news about Rohit Sharma and Bharat reluctantly offers up his prediction for the remainder of the series. Before we finish the show, we dip into Bharat's back catalogue to ask what it was like to write a book about MS Dhoni, and what makes MS one of the most fascinating characters of the modern era. We also discuss Bharat's search for West Indian fast bowler Patrick Patterson, and how that mission became so much more than just another piece of copy. If you'd like to check out more of Bharat's work, you can find his archive at CricBuzz: https://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/author/bharat-sundaresan/235 (https://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/author/bharat-sundaresan/235) His brilliant article about Patrick Patterson can be found here: https://indianexpress.com/article/sports/cricket/patrick-patterson-an-unquiet-mind-4762590/ (https://indianexpress.com/article/sports/cricket/patrick-patterson-an-unquiet-mind-4762590/) And more info on The Dhoni Touch: Unravelling the Enigma That Is Mahendra Singh Dhoni is available at:https://penguin.co.in/book/the-dhoni-touch/ (https://penguin.co.in/book/the-dhoni-touch/) If you're a new listener to the podcast, check out our back catalogue. Cow Corner's run of IPL specials continues! This week, Dan and Zac are rejoined by London Correspondent Will to discuss Mohammed Siraj's sensational spell versus KKR and Kings XI Punjab's surreal double super over win against Mumbai Indians. Zac also launches an unprecedented campaign for the cricket community to acknowledge that Sam Curran is a better cricketer than Ben Stokes. Yes, we're already looking forward to referencing that statement in future episodes.
Kolkata Knight Riders were humiliated by 8 wickets as Royal Challengers Bangalore chased down the modest target of 85 runs in just 13.3 overs. Mohammed Siraj inflicted severe damage on KKR as he bowled two maidens and picked up 3 wickets in the powerplay and Morgan's men never recovered from that blow. Today's match will see RR and SRH fight it out to get closer to a play-offs berth. Hindustan Times' Arnab Sen and Rasesh Mandani discuss the finer details.
