On June 6th, 2025, the Wall Street Journal released an article titled The Pentagon Disinformation That Fueled America's UFO Mythology: U.S. military fabricated evidence of alien technology and allowed rumors to fester to cover up real secret-weapons programs. On June 11th, 2025, the New York Post followed that article up with an eerily similar video titled BOMBSHELL: Pentagon created fake UFO evidence, promoted false alien stories.Links:
In 1975, NASA launched two spacecraft to Mars. Viking 1 and Viking 2 arrived at their destination less than a year later, each bringing a lander to explore the surface of the planet and an orbiter to survey above. What was supposed to be a 90 day mission ended up lasting until the early 1980s. Those years provided scientists with important data about the Martian landscape, from seismometer readings of marsquakes to the reddish color of the sky.But the Viking missions had another important task: they were going to look for possible signs of life. The Viking experiments would go on to become an important landmark in science, one that's helped researchers in a number of fields figure out what we can be doing better to find signs of life beyond Earth.Send us your science facts, news, or other stories for a chance to be featured on an upcoming Tiny Show and Tell Us bonus episode. George Howard is a weaver of ideas who runs the Cosmic Tusk blog and organizes the Cosmic Summit annual gathering. He's also one of the longest-lived players in the Comet Research Group, a heterodox collection of theorists and scientists that has been working on the Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis since the 1990s. We talk with Howard about bone beds, Carolina Bays, mass extinction, catastrophic history, weirdly magnetic mammoth tusks, and just how little we can actually say with certainty about the distant past. 1182 Dr. Avi Loeb on the Hunt for ‘Oumuamua's Truth In this electrifying episode of Strange Planet, Richard plunges into the cosmic abyss with Dr. Avi Loeb, Harvard's fearless astrophysicist who dared to call ‘Oumuamua—our solar system's cigar-shaped intruder—an alien probe. While skeptics scoffed, Loeb doubled down, launching the Galileo Project to hunt for extraterrestrial relics in our skies, seas, and beyond. With UAPs now a government-confirmed mystery, his radical ideas feel eerily prescient. Was ‘Oumuamua a scout from a civilization long gone, or a silent sentinel still watching? Could ancient probes lurk beneath our oceans, or has humanity been broadcasting to a universe that's already moved on? From metallic spheres in the Pacific to potential lunar monoliths, Loeb's quest blends hard science with cosmic wonder, challenging us to confront the unknown. Tune in as Richard and Dr. Loeb unravel the enigma of our place among the stars—prepare for a mind-bending ride into the infinite. It is one of the greatest questions humankind has ever faced: are we alone in the cosmos? If alien life on other worlds exists, are there intelligent forms that may be capable of communication? Or is it even possible that some form of non-human intelligence might already be present closer to Earth than we realize? This week on The Micah Hanks Program, in our ongoing discussions about the possibility of exotic life forms and the possibility of non-human intelligence, we discuss a potential strategy for research that examines where life might be found, in what forms it may appear, and whether it could be lurking nearby unrecognized by modern science. Have you had a UFO/UAP sighting? Please consider reporting your sighting to the UAP Sightings Reporting System, a public resource for information about sightings of aerial phenomena. In this episode of This Week in Space, hosts Rod Pyle and Tariq Malik discuss the latest space news, including a potentially hazardous asteroid, SpaceX's plans to launch and land in the Bahamas, and the ongoing debate surrounding the retirement of the International Space Station. They also touch on NASA's budget cuts, the search for extraterrestrial life, and the development of new radiation protection technology for deep space missions. - Asteroid 2024 YR4: While initially considered a potential threat, the chances of this asteroid impacting Earth have significantly decreased as more data has been collected. Rod and Tariq discuss the changing odds and the importance of tracking near-Earth objects. - NASA budget cuts: The hosts discuss the proposed 20% budget cut for the James Webb Space Telescope and its potential impact on the groundbreaking observatory's operations and scientific output. - Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost Moon lander: Launched weeks ago, the lander is now in lunar orbit and scheduled to land on or about March 2nd, carrying 10 experiments to Mare Crisium. With several other lunar missions on the horizon, including those from Intuitive Machines and Japan's iSpace, the hosts discuss the exciting developments in the new lunar exploration era. - SpaceX in the Bahamas: Elon Musk's company is in talks with the Bahamian government about launching and landing rights. The hosts speculate on the reasons behind this move and its potential implications for future missions. - The retirement of the ISS: Elon Musk suggests de-orbiting the station as soon as possible and to press on to Mars, while others argue for maintaining it until suitable replacements are ready. - "Stranded" astronauts controversy: The hosts address the recent claims that astronauts Sunny Williams and Butch Wilmore were "stranded" or "abandoned" on the ISS due to political motives. They clarify the situation and express their disappointment with the misleading narrative. - Radiation shielding technology: The development of 3D-printed hydrogels offers a promising solution for protecting astronauts from harmful radiation during deep space missions. The hosts explore the potential applications and benefits of this innovative technology. - Search for Extraterrestrial Life: The COSMIC project, working with the Very Large Array telescope, has been using advanced computer processing to seek out focused radio transmissions that might indicate the presence of alien civilizations. While no signals of interest have been found yet, the search continues, and the project serves as a valuable educational tool for aspiring radio astronomers. - NASA workforce reduction: While NASA has not yet implemented the anticipated workforce reduction, the hosts discuss the potential impact of such cuts on the agency's future and the importance of maintaining a skilled workforce in the face of increasing competition from China.
