Israel's successful campaign to destroy Iran's nuclear weapons program, prevent its ballistic missiles and other weapons from attacking the Jewish State's population centers and decimate the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, military and intelligence leadership has given rise to an historic opportunity. For the first time since 1979, when the ayatollahs imposed their apocalyptic and totalitarian Sharia-supremacist regime on the country's highly cultured, capable and pro-Western population, the people of Iran have a real chance to liberate themselves. That prospect increased immeasurably with President Trump's immortal, two-word social media post yesterday. He said simply, “Unconditional Surrender.” By signaling an end to negotiations with the mullahs for any other purpose, the Iranian people now can, and will, bring them down. They'll need, of course, support in rejoining the civilized world. But that decisive victory is finally possible, at last. Praise the Lord! This is Frank Gaffney.
Israel and the Iranian mullahs are at war, precipitated by the prospect nuclear weapons might soon feature in ongoing strikes on Israeli civilian targets. Will the United States do what it has done repeatedly in previous Mideast conflicts, namely, insist that the Jewish State suspend its military operations before achieving a decisive victory? To his great credit, President Trump has thus far resisted calls to do so again to avoid a new “endless war.” In fact, the most endless war in memory is the forty-year one the Iranian mullahs have waged against Western Civilization. It will continue and intensify if they and their nuclear weapons program survive. An emergency briefing at 2 p.m. today will explicate why Israel is absolutely right to insist on finishing the job and why it is in America's vital interest that's accomplished. Join us at VictoryCo.org This is Frank Gaffney.
With Israel's criminal air-strikes on Iran's nuclear sites releasing radioactive contamination, Bibi Netanyahu cynically invokes the "Woman, Life, Freedom" protest movement that shook Iran for months from September 2022. Of course nothing is less conducive to pro-democracy civil resistance in Iran than to have this cause associated with the foreign power that is bombing the country's territory—and is itself oppressing the Palestinians with biblical justifications. In Episode 282 of the CounterVortex podcast, Bill Weinberg again advocates a neither/nor position that rejects the militaristic and reactionary regimes of both Zionism and political Islam, and looks to a secular order in the Middle East. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Military reporter Emanuel Fabian joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. The IDF confirmed last night that an Israeli airstrike earlier this month killed top Hamas leader Muhammad Sinwar while he was in a tunnel underneath a hospital in the southern Gaza Strip. What information is the IDF basing the confirmation on? The IDF claims that Hamas’s hold is slipping, along with its stronghold on food supplies. However, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation effort is being accused of wounding and even killing Gazans who are attempting to secure aid. Fabian weighs in on this increasingly murky endeavor. A 19-year-old Defense Ministry civilian contractor, David Libi, was killed by an explosive device Thursday during Israel Defense Forces operations in the northern Gaza Strip. We learn why the IDF is employing Israeli civilians in the Strip. The IDF carried out airstrikes on Friday near the coastal Syrian city of Latakia, saying its fighter jets targeted weapon depots used to store anti-ship missiles. It was Israel’s first reported strikes in Syria in nearly a month, but the IDF is not being forthcoming as to which terror group -- or state -- was the owner of the missiles. Finally, we learned recently that the Israeli Air Force intercepted 35 drones launched by the Hezbollah terror group using a new laser interception system. The new system used during the fighting is a lower-powered version of the Iron Beam laser interceptor, which is set to be delivered to the Israel Defense Forces later this year. We hear about the IDF's beta-testing of the new system. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. Legendary writer John Steinbeck walked Israel's soil. What he saw stunned him. For better and for worse, very little has changed.
This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute. Suddenly, a rising chorus of Western nations is insisting that there must be a Palestinian state, right now. And the United Nations is pressing forward with a meeting next month to discuss this initiative, adding further legitimacy to what is, truly, a harebrained idea. Why the sudden furor? And why the rush? Rabbi Pesach Wolicki, a world-class Israeli-American information warfare practitioner, has just produced a short video explaining that the reason for this diplomatic push has nothing to do with the merits of such a state being more compelling than heretofore. Incredibly, these nations – from the United Kingdom to Australia half-a-world away – appear panicked that the existing Palestinian terror-state in Gaza is about to be vanquished by Israel, and with it the odious, terrorist regime that seeks explicitly to destroy both the Jewish State and ours. I say, “Good riddance, Hamas.” This is Frank Gaffney
The world feels increasingly unsafe for Jews. Digital spaces are riddled with antisemitic rhetoric. Israel recently issued a travel warning for Jews visiting Canada. And, last week, threats turned real when Elias Rodriguez allegedly shot and killed two Israeli embassy staffers outside the Jewish museum in Washington, D.C., shouting about a free Palestine during his arrest. One of the hosts of our Not in Heaven podcast, Yedida Eisenstat, lives in the U.S. capital with her family. Another host, Avi Finegold, lives in Chicago—where the suspected killer lived. When danger lurks so close, it becomes an unavoidable topic of conversation across generations. All three hosts of this show have multiple children, ranging in age from four to 19. In this episode, each shares how they approached the topic with their family: how to speak frankly about world politics to teenagers, how to explainer to grade-schoolers about security guards with bulletproof vests, how to explain your presence at a rally for the hostages when your kids can't grasp what Hamas even is. They also discuss reactions to the murders, both their own and those who believe the murders were "100 percent justified", and Israel's travel advisory for Canada. Do the words of warning feel justified for Jews actually living here, or is the Jewish State just playing politics? A way to pull the rug out from under Hamas or a scheme to permanently chase Palestinians out of parts of Gaza? Israel insisting that a brand-new Geneva-registered aid group aims to deliver long-awaited aid to secure distribution sites while preventing the Palestinian militant group from diverting food and medicine. With the United Nations out of the loop, and Gaza residents forced to travel vast distances mostly for what look like rations, the international community warns it's a bid to force the displacement of a population that's only seen a trickle of aid since the embargo that started in March. What's Israel's ultimate goal? And will the United States sign off on a move condemned by some of the Jewish State's closest allies like Germany and Italy? More broadly, what's to become of Gaza two-point-four million citizens, two-thirds of whom live in refugee camps? The daily bombing continues, but is there a plan? Produced by Rebecca Gnignati, Elisa Amiri, Ilayda Habip.
"Free Palestine!" is "the new 'heil Hitler'!" says Israeli PM Netanyahu following the double-murder of Israeli embassy staff in Washington DC last week - a sickening development that fortuitously eased growing international pressure on the Israeli regime to stop starving the Palestinians in Gaza to death. Just how much pressure will Western leaders actually bring to bear on Israel though? Why don't they do more to restrain the Jewish State? Like, stop gifting it weapons and ammunition? And...

It's been a tumultuous week in diplomatic relations between Israel and Canada. The most shocking news, of course, has been the recent murder of two Israeli embassy staff members in Washington, D.C., who were gunned down on May 21 by a man calling for “Free Palestine”. Amid the international condemnations, Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was “devastated and appalled” by the attack, calling it “a violent act of antisemitism.” But even before that incident, Carney was making news in Israel. Canada joined France and the United Kingdom in threatening sanctions against the Jewish State over the West Bank, and "actions" if it did not stop the renewed war in Gaza and begin allowing aid into Gaza. Carney's new minister of foreign affairs, Anita Anand, made similar condemnations. And while Israel did begin allowing aid trucks into the Gaza Strip, hours after the joint statement, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a rare press conference and openly promoted American president Donald Trump's plan to push Palestinians out of Gaza and take complete control of the strip. And in the midst of all this, members of the Israel Defense Forces fired warning shots near a group of foreign diplomats—including two Canadians—in the West Bank city of Jenin. As a result, Anand formally “summoned” Israel's ambassador to Canada for a meeting on May 21. If you can't keep all the chaos straight, we don't blame you. That's why The CJN Daily host Ellin Bessner wanted to sit down with Artur Wilczynski, a former Canadian ambassador and diplomat—and a veteran security and intelligence expert—to help make sense of what feels like one of the most dangerous political weeks in recent memory. Carney's new government has put its foot down against Israel, punching above its weight on the international stage. What should we make of this? What concerns should Canadian Jews have about Israel and Canada's longstanding friendship? Another powerful and timely remix to the latest song I've recorded, from Chet Gardiner.
There is a mythology so many of us grew up with, that because of the experience of the Nazi holocaust, Jews were generally a more moral people, as a whole, and no state run almost entirely by Jews could possibly do something like genocide another people. This mythology was wrong, and Gaza is the evidence.

While they may seem like two separate issues, anti-Israel disinformation in the news media and anti-Jewish hate crimes are actually very much intertwined. Thanks to the incessant anti-Israel propaganda frequently disseminated by news media outlets, a message continues to be made to Canadians: that Israel, the Jewish State, is a genocidal regime, and by extension, its supporters are culpable too.But not only is this factually wrong, it's a hateful defamation, and joining us to help us understand this linkage is Richard Robertson, the Manager of Research for B'nai Brith Canada, which recently released its annual audit of anti-Jewish hate crimes.
It will be a very different kind of Yom ha-Zikaron in Israel for the family of Ben Brown. In July 2024, a Hezbollah rocket injured the 20-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., while he was on duty with the Israel Defense Forces' Golani army unit at a strategic base overlooking the Lebanese border. No one else was hurt, or killed. Now, as the Jewish State remembers more than 25,000 soldiers and also victims of terrorism who've fallen throughout Israel's history, Brown's family is commemorating in their own way—on the ground in Israel, where there son is still in hospital. Brown has spent months receiving treatment, after being in a coma, with a traumatic brain injury. The former yeshiva student is out of danger now, but he still receives hours of daily therapy. His family and friends keep a constant vigil, as he cannot yet speak properly for long, or walk distances unassisted. Despite a controversial progressive media website publicly listing Ben Brown among 85 Canadians who've served in the IDF over the years, Brown's family says they're not focusing on the unwanted negative attention. Instead, the family is marking Israel's Memorial Day together in Israel, and plan to attend local events—including the 77th anniversary of Israel's independence the following day. They want Canadians back home to understand why their son felt he had to defend the Jewish State—especially after Oct. 7. On today's The CJN Daily, Ben Brown's father, Jeffrey Brown, joins from Israel to explain. Related links Read more about Ben Brown's injury after Oct. 7, in The CJN. A JEWISH STATE | WAR OF AMALEK (25)https://youtu.be/GhWknZ-H_u8 Despite writing this kuntres before the Holocaust and the founding of modern Israel, Rav Elchanan Wasserman has clear eyes at what was and will be happening in the land of Israel. In fact, it become more amazing when you see how these holy words relate to what we see in Israel today. While many do not know that the only Jewish State in the world has many self hating Jews behind its modern founding, it is more relevant to learn what makes a Jewish State, and what the Torah Ben Gurion used to win his argument at the UN has to say about it.

What does it mean for a university to become a battleground against deep-seated prejudices and historical tensions? In today's episode, we dive into these challenging questions with our distinguished guest, Cary Nelson, a celebrated scholar and ardent advocate for academic freedom.Nelson shares his insights on the intersection of anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism in academia, a topic explored in his new book, "Mindless: What Happened to Universities?" The conversation examines how the lines between critique of Israel and hostility towards Jewish students blur, becoming toxic and divisive forces across campuses, from historical shifts that turned post-1948 anti-Zionism into a rejection of Israel's existence to the phenomenon of hatred and the campus protests that undermine foundational academic values. Nelson calls for reclaiming the core purpose of academia as a community of imperfect learners where dialogue and understanding prevail. In This Episode:Historical context of anti-Zionism and its transformation into anti-SemitismThe unique pressures faced by Jewish students on campusesThe role of social media in spreading campus protestsDistinctions between psychological and intellectual safety in AcademiaThe undermining of the university's role as a space for diverse perspectives About Cary:Cary Nelson is Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts & Sciences Emeritus at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an affiliated faculty member at the University of Haifa. He holds an honorary doctorate from Ben Gurion University of the Negev. Over his distinguished career, Nelson has authored or edited 36 books and published over 400 essays, focusing on modern poetry, critical theory, the politics of higher education, and issues related to antisemitism and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. From 2006 to 2012, he served as president of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), advocating for academic freedom and shared governance. Nelson's latest work, “Mindless: What Happened to Universities?”, published on March 6, 2025, examines how universities have deviated from their commitment to shared intellectual principles, leading to environments where extremism and intolerance can flourish. This week was the opening of the 2025 World Zionist Congress Elections. On the show, I welcome Rabbi Josh Weinberg to talk about the meaning of this momentous opportunity to support Israel. Rabbi Weinberg is the URJ Vice President for Israel and Reform Zionism and the Executive Director of ARZA. Please listen to have your voice heard and direct more than $1 Billion of funding for Israel. The World Zionist Organization (WZO) and the World Zionist Congress (WZC) are central nongovernmental institutions in Israel. While not a part of the Israeli government, “The Parliament of the Jewish People” represents a variety of Israeli political parties, their platforms and visions for Israeli society. The WZO was founded by Theodor Herzl in Basel, Switzerland in 1897 at the first World Zionist Congress. Even though they predate the State of Israel, the country's founders knew that to succeed it had to be a project of the entire global Jewish People. They baked the WZO and WZC into the Democratic process of Israel as the one way for Diaspora Jews to have a say in the important Issues facing the Jewish People and Jewish State. Often called “The Parliament of the Jewish People,” the WZC convenes every five years to bring together representatives from Jewish communities around the world to decide on key issues affecting the Jewish people in Israel and globally. The Congress elects the leadership of the WZO, sets policies, and influences the allocation of significant funding of about $1 billion annually. President Trump – like his predecessors – has insisted that Sharia-supremacist Iran will not be allowed to get “the Bomb.” Unfortunately, the ayatollahs can probably reveal at any time that they have done so. So, there's great urgency to the ultimatum Mr. Trump gave Iran's regime this week, to either resume denuclearization negotiations or face military action. Iran's president recently responded that his country will not negotiate and told him to “do whatever the hell you want.” Since what we want is an end to the nuclear and other threats from Tehran, the response must be to help Israel enable the long-suffering Iranian people to liberate themselves from the regime that brutally oppresses them and explicitly seeks our destruction and that of the Jewish State – namely, by targeting the mullahocracy and the security apparatus that keeps it in power. This is Frank Gaffney.
What happens to Israel when its most important ally turns away from democracy? When happens when a weakened United States can no longer help Israel defend itself? Where else should Israel turn when the United States allies with autocracies? Is Trump good for Israel — or its biggest long-term threat?
Today we confront one of the most harrowing and consequential moments in modern history. The world has watched in horror as the brutality of October 7th has given way to even greater darkness. And now the unimaginable: Israeli children Kfir and Ariel Bibas, once held hostage by Hamas, are dead. Their fate, unconfirmed for months, was paraded in a grotesque display of inhumanity by those who revel in suffering. But what does this moment mean for Israel? For the future of the Middle East? For the very fabric of Western civilization? To answer these urgent questions, I sit down with a man who not only shaped history but understands it better than most. Ambassador David Friedman was at the heart of the Abraham Accords, forging peace where none was thought possible. Now, as the Jews fight for their survival against terror, against global antisemitism, against those who would wipe them from the map, we ask: What comes next? Will there be peace? Will Israel be forced into another cycle of war? Or will this be the moment the world finally understands that there is no compromise with evil? This is a conversation you cannot afford to miss. The adage that “elections have consequences” certainly applies to the Middle East and America's vital interests there following ours in 2020. Donald Trump bequeathed to Joe Biden a region as tranquil as it had ever been, with Israel prosperous, powerful, and secure, a growing number of Muslim nations making peace with the Jewish State and her enemies and ours – especially Iran and its terrorist proxies – in check. Today, the legacy of the third, pro-Iran Obama-Biden administration is appalling. Most of the Mideast is effectively at war with Israel. And her “cold peace” partner, Egypt, seems ready to pile on with Sharia-supremacist regimes and the jihadist organizations they support. Mr. Trump has warned that “all hell will break loose” if Hamas refuses to release its remaining Israeli hostages. The truth is, thanks in no small measure to Biden and Company, it already has. This is Frank Gaffney.

It's hard to overstate the importance of this week's meeting between President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. If they stand together, as Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill did in World War II's darkest days when Britain was otherwise alone, Israel will – with our material support – defeat our mutual enemies. If a united front is not the outcome, those enemies will be convinced they'll destroy not only the Jewish State but – in due course – America, as well. The regrouping, rearming, and preparations for renewed attacks on Israel now being undertaken by Hamas and other Sharia- supremacists cannot continue without dire consequences for both our nations and the Free World, more generally. We must, therefore, pray that mistakes like Biden's calamitous Gaza “ceasefire” are reversed in favor of a shared commitment to accept, in the words of Douglas MacArthur, “no substitute for victory.” This is Frank Gaffney.

On today's Israel Uncensored, Josh Hasten discusses the current ceasefire agreement between the Jewish State and Hamas. There were scenes of great emotion and joy on Sunday as the first three Israeli hostages were released from the Hamas dungeons of Gaza. However, Israel paid a steep price agreeing to release over 1,700 Arab terrorists including hundreds of murderers who were never supposed to see the light of day. How soon until those terrorists go back to their craft of trying to murder Jews? Of course, the release of the hostages is a must, but what does the future hold for the safety and well-being of Israel's citizens? Time will tell, as we pray for only good news ahead.

The United States government has dropped its $10 million terrorism bounty on new Syrian leader Abu Mohammad al-Julani, within days of his takeover of the country. On this week's Israel Uncensored, Josh Hasten is flabbergasted that the Biden Administration would make the move before al-Julani has shown whether or not he will continue his terrorist ways. While the dismantling of the Assad regime is a positive, there is a reason Israeli troops are stationed on the Syrian Golan - namely to thwart any attacks from Syria, should Al-Julani and friends decide to turn their attention towards the Jewish State.

On what Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu dubbed a "a historic day in the Middle East," the Syrian regime led by President Bashar Assad was overthrown by rebel groups on Sunday. Netanyahu credited Israel's weakening of Iran and Hezbollah for the regime collapse. As a result, Israel has deployed troops in the Israel/Syria buffer zone for the first time since 1974, to ensure that none of the rebel groups turn their attention towards the Jewish State. It remains to be seen what will happen, but the Iran/Syria/Hezbollah access of evil has certainly been depleted. This breaking story, and all the latest news from Israel, on this week's Israel Uncensored, with Josh Hasten.
Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. In today's episode, ToI senior analyst Haviv Rettig Gur joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for a special bonus episode of our weekly What Matters Now podcast. Former Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, an Iranian career diplomat who participated in the previous round of nuclear talks, has been Iran's vice president for strategic affairs since August. In that role, he wrote an op-ed in the bimonthly Foreign Affairs journal. The century-old magazine focuses on international relations and policy and can serve as a platform to float ideas and hear reasoned responses. In Zarif's article, "How Iran Sees the Path to Peace," among the arguments raised was the idea of a "referendum" voting on the governance of the territory that largely includes the Jewish state. "Iran can continue to play a constructive role in ending the current humanitarian nightmare in Gaza and work with the international community to pursue a lasting and democratic solution to the conflict," writes Zarif. "Iran will agree to any solution acceptable to Palestinians, but our government believes that the best way out of this century-long ordeal would be a referendum in which everyone living between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea — Muslims, Christians, and Jews — and Palestinians driven to diaspora in the twentieth century (along with their descendants) would be able to determine a viable future system of governance. This is in line with international law and would build on the success of South Africa, where an apartheid system was transformed into a viable democratic state." To Rettig Gur, Zarif's op-ed -- filled with posturing and warnings to the Western world -- is a sign of Iran's faltering regime and he explains why. So this week, we discuss this new era of Iranian potential weakness and how the West needs to handle it wisely, as Haviv Rettig Gur weighs in on what matters now.
