Friends of the Rosary,Today, the Octave Day of Easter, is the Sunday of Divine Mercy. We rejoice in the mystery of Divine mercy, a gift to humanity that the world needs to accept and understand. From the Beginning, the Divinity revealed His nature as love itself. The love of the Risen Lord forgives, reconciles, and restores life. The origin of Divine Mercy Sunday is from a revelation from Our Lord to the Polish nun Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska.Following Jesus' request, Faustina Kowalska initiated the Divine Mercy devotion. On May 5, 2000, five days after the canonization of Saint Faustina, the Roman Catholic Church decreed that the Second Sunday of Easter would be known as Divine Mercy Sunday.Divine mercy is God's refusal to leave us in our fallen condition. Christ Jesus enters our hardened hearts, banishing fear and sin, and He says, “Peace be with you.”"I shall sing forever the Lord's mercy" (Ps 89 [88]).— Jesus to Sr. Faustina | Excerpts from the Diary of Faustina KowalskaOn one occasion, I heard these words: "My daughter, tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity. Everything that exists has come forth from the very depths of My most tender mercy. Every soul in its relation to Me will contemplate My love and mercy throughout eternity. The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy.""[Let] the greatest sinners place their trust in My mercy. They have the right before others to trust in the abyss of My mercy. My daughter, write about My mercy towards tormented souls. Souls that make an appeal to My mercy delight Me. To such souls I grant even more graces than they ask. I cannot punish even the greatest sinner if he makes an appeal to My compassion, but on the contrary, I justify him in My unfathomable and inscrutable mercy. Write: before I come as a just Judge, I first open wide the door of My mercy. He who refuses to pass through the door of My mercy must pass through the door of My justice."From all My wounds, like from streams, mercy flows for souls, but the wound in My Heart is the fountain of unfathomable mercy. From this fountain spring all graces for souls. The flames of compassion burn Me. I desire greatly to pour them out upon souls. Speak to the whole world about My mercy." On Good Friday, 1937, Jesus requested that St. Faustina make a special Divine Mercy Novena to be recited from Good Friday through the following Saturday in preparation for the Feast of Mercy.Jesus also asked that a picture be painted according to the vision of Himself as the fountain of mercy. He gave her a Chaplet of Divine Mercy to be recited and said that it was appropriate to pray the chaplet at three o'clock each afternoon (the Hour of Great Mercy).Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Octave Day of Christmas: Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God
Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God The Octave Day of ChristmasLk 2:16-21The shepherds went in haste to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child. All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds.
From the responsorial psalm: “May God have pity on us and bless us; may he let his face shine upon us. So may your way be known upon earth; among all nations, your salvation. May God bless us in his mercy." A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (Luke 2:16-21) All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds. And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them. Luke describes what happens after the angel appears to the shepherds and says, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people." In obedience to the angel's message, the shepherds travel in haste to Bethlehem to find Jesus. . . . (more)

Delivered by Father Peter Tukan, SDB from Salesian Don Bosco Gerak in the Diocese of Labuan Bajo, Indonesia. Numbers 6: 22-27; Rs psalm 67: 2-3.5.6.8; Galatians 4: 4-7; Luke 2: 16-21 THE MOTHERHOOD OF MOTHER The theme for our meditation today is: The Motherhood of Mother. Our universal Church celebrates today the solemnity of Our Lady, Mary the Mother of God. It's a great celebration for our Mother which we all observe on the 8th day after the birth of Jesus Christ. On the 8th day of His birth also, Jesus for the first time sacrificed His blood through circumcision ritual according to local customs. His Mother Mary, certainly was the person most responsible for caring for the wounds of her Son, for as an infant, this thing should be very painful. His mother must had repeatedly wiped the blood flowing out as the wound was still fresh. Blood is a very strong element to relate a mother with her child. The mother's womb which is inhabited by the child during the pregnancy period shows an inseparable blood relationship between the two, and it becomes so evident when the baby is already born, as he is bathed in the mother's blood before enjoying the new world outside the mother's body. Mary and our mothers in the world continue to show how the blood relationship continues growing until the child becomes mature. The Virgin Mary enjoyed a life filled with blood of Her Son Jesus, especially when she was at the foot of the cross in Calvary and embracing the dead body of Jesus Christ, la pieta. Our mothers in the world, of course with their husbands or our fathers, feel how painful they are when their children suffer. Their blood do not flow in normal circulation because they are not able to endure that suffering. How they are joyful when their children are happy, when the blood in their bodies circulate well so they look cheerful and happy. The children's actual happiness or sad in this world cause the blood situation of their parents such as calm, low, and rise. The blood really unites the mother and child, that this relationship becomes so solid and can only be terminated by death. These all illustrate that the motherhood of a mother is so important. The woman who gave birth to us is a mother with motherhood because her love and concern for us is the same as God for us, His beloved people. On this very special day of Mary, the Mother of God, may all our hearts be filled with joy and gratitude. Christmas that brings us together with Jesus and the Family of Nazareth, makes our joy full and we want to carry it out for the next year. We must start this year with joy and optimism, and that is the content of the Gospel that we are about to proclaim. The motherhood of mother figure, basically is in women, is very central in our lives. So, we must be very grateful because God is so good to pour gifts to our mothers, ladies and women. Our life cannot be a real one if we don't have mothers. Let's pray. In the name of the Father ... O beloved Father, thank you abundantly for the gift of the Mother of God and our earthly mothers; make us children who are always loyal to our mothers and always pray for them. Hail Mary full of grace ... In the name of the Father ...
Friends of the Rosary, Today is the Sunday of Divine Mercy, the Octave Day of Easter, and we confidently say: Jesus, I trust in You, have mercy upon us and the whole world. The Divine Mercy Sunday origin is from a revelation to the Polish nun Saint Faustina Maria Kowalska, the mystic of the twentieth century who initiated the Divine Mercy devotion. Between 1930 and 1938 Jesus requested to her numerous times a Feast of Divine Mercy. On May 5, 2000, five days after the canonization of Saint Faustina, the Vatican decreed that the Second Sunday of Easter would be Divine Mercy Sunday. God the Father revealed his nature of pure love through the Scriptures and the life, Passion, death, and Resurrection of his Son. It's the mystery of God's divine mercy, a gift of humanity, described by Pope Saint John Paul II as “the greatest of the attributes and perfections of God” (Dives in misericordia, 13). The risen Jesus offers His love that pardons, reconciles, and gives peace. ----------Jesus to St. Maria Faustina Kowalska—Excerpted from Diary of Sr. M. Now when it was late that same day, the first of the week, and the doors were shut, where the disciples were gathered together, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them: Peace be to you.Cum ergo sero esset die illo, una sabbatorum, et fores essent clausae, ubi erant discipuli congregati propter metum Judaeorum : venit Jesus, et stetit in medio, et dixit eis : Pax vobis. 20 And when he had said this, he shewed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad, when they saw the Lord.Et cum hoc dixisset, ostendit eis manus et latus. Gavisi sunt discipuli, viso Domino. 21 He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent me, I also send you.Dixit ergo eis iterum : Pax vobis. Sicut misit me Pater, et ego mitto vos. 22 When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: Receive ye the Holy Ghost.Haec cum dixisset, insufflavit, et dixit eis : Accipite Spiritum Sanctum : 23 Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.quorum remiseritis peccata, remittuntur eis : et quorum retinueritis, retenta sunt. 24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, who is called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.Thomas autem unus ex duodecim, qui dicitur Didymus, non erat cum eis quando venit Jesus. 25 The other disciples therefore said to him: We have seen the Lord. But he said to them: Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.Dixerunt ergo ei alii discipuli : Vidimus Dominum. Ille autem dixit eis : Nisi videro in manibus ejus fixuram clavorum, et mittam digitum meum in locum clavorum, et mittam manum meam in latus ejus, non credam. 26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them. Jesus cometh, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said: Peace be to you.Et post dies octo, iterum erant discipuli ejus intus, et Thomas cum eis. Venit Jesus januis clausis, et stetit in medio, et dixit : Pax vobis. 27 Then he saith to Thomas: Put in thy finger hither, and see my hands; and bring hither thy hand, and put it into my side; and be not faithless, but believing.Deinde dicit Thomae : Infer digitum tuum huc, et vide manus meas, et affer manum tuam, et mitte in latus meum : et noli esse incredulus, sed fidelis. 28 Thomas answered, and said to him: My Lord, and my God.Respondit Thomas, et dixit ei : Dominus meus et Deus meus. 29 Jesus saith to him: Because thou hast seen me, Thomas, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and have believed.Dixit ei Jesus : Quia vidisti me, Thoma, credidisti : beati qui non viderunt, et crediderunt. 30 Many other signs also did Jesus in the sight of his disciples, which are not written in this book.Multa quidem et alia signa fecit Jesus in conspectu discipulorum suorum, quae non sunt scripta in libro hoc. 31 But these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God: and that believing, you may have life in his name.Haec autem scripta sunt ut credatis, quia Jesus est Christus Filius Dei : et ut credentes, vitam habeatis in nomine ejus.

Reading I Nm 6:22-27 The LORD said to Moses: “Speak to Aaron and his sons and tell them: This is how you shall bless the Israelites. Say to them: The LORD bless you and keep you! The LORD let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you! The LORD look upon you kindly and give you peace! So shall they invoke my name upon the Israelites, and I will bless them.”Reading II Gal 4:4-7 Brothers and sisters: When the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to ransom those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. As proof that you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son then also an heir, through God.Gospel Lk 2:16-21 The shepherds went in haste to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. Octave Day of Christmas: Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God
Friends of the Rosary: Today, day eight of Christmas is the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God, the Octave Day of Christmas. We also sanctify in Christ the New Year's Day. The Word took our human nature from Mary. The title “Mother of God” goes back to the third or fourth century. However, the Greek term Theotokos (“The God-bearer”) was officially consecrated as Catholic doctrine at the Council of Ephesus in 431, thus becoming the first Marian dogma. This Catholic doctrine is based on the doctrine of Incarnation, as expressed by St. Paul: “God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law” (Galatians 4:4). On this day the Catholic Church also celebrates the World Day of Peace, a tradition established by Pope Paul VI and confirmed by Pope John Paul II. Ave Maria! Welcome to the Word at St Francis, a welcoming and inclusive parish community coming to you from E 96th St in New York City. The Gospel is Lk 2:16-21: The shepherds went in haste to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child. All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds. And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them. When eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
THE OCTAVE DAY OF CHRISTMAS SOLEMNITY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, THE MOTHER OF GOD A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke The shepherds went in haste to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child. All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds. And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. Today's Gospel reading follows the passage that describes the appearance of an angel of the Lord to the shepherds. The angel found them keeping watch over their flock and told them: “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” The angel told them that a sign for them would be finding Jesus in Bethlehem wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. Luke says that all at once there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on who his favor rests.” The shepherds went in haste to find Jesus and told Mary the message of the angel. And Luke tells us Mary's response: “And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.” The shepherds then returned, glorifying and praising God for what they had heard and seen. This Advent and Christmas, I have also been a witness to these things. Now, how do I keep all these things, and what is the way to go about sharing the joy of this message? God, through the Blessed Virgin Mary—through her yes—marvelous wonders from heaven have been brought to earth. At the announcement of an angel, a multitude of the heavenly host appeared in the sky and gave you the highest praise and glory, “and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” In the first reading, we see this same peace that God bestowed on the Israelites when he said to Moses: “The LORD bless you and keep you! The LORD let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you! The LORD look upon you kindly and give you peace!” Give me the grace, Lord, to know and receive your blessing. The shepherds made known the message to Mary. Merciful Lord, be with me today to make me a messenger of your peace and mercy. “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” Let me remember the words of the psalmist: “May God bless us in his mercy.” Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Mary shows us a pattern of “accepting” and “throwing together.” And what is important in this pattern is when our tragedies are thrown together with the rest of our lives, it allows the good things to win. GospelLk 2:16-21The shepherds went in haste to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.

As we approach the Octave Day of Easter — in isolation with the Apostles — we prepare to celebrate the Divine Mercy of God
Today we celebrate the The Octave Day of Christmas, Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God. In this homily, Fr. Stephen Hamilton reflects on maternity and how motherhood, and indeed flesh, are the under attack by the demonic.
We’ll continue to use the same reflection and examen for the rest of the week. New reflections will be added every Sunday.
Octave Day of St Benedict (2019) by Silverstream Priory
Divine Mercy Sunday (also known as the Feast of the Divine Mercy) is celebrated on the Sunday after Easter, the Octave Day of Easter. The feast day is observed by Roman Catholic as well as some Anglicans.[3] It is originally based on the Catholic devotion to the Divine Mercy that Saint Faustina Kowalska reported as part of her encounter with Jesus, and is associated with special promises from Jesus and indulgences issued by the Church The feast of Divine Mercy, as recorded in the diary of Saint Faustina, receives from Jesus Himself the biggest promises of grace related to the Devotion of Divine Mercy. In specific, Jesus said that a person who goes to sacramental confession (the confession may take place some days before) and receives holy communion on that day, shall obtain the total forgiveness of all sins and punishment. That means each person would go immediately after death to heaven without suffering in purgatory (or hell). Additionally, the Roman Catholic Church grants a plenary indulgence (observing the usual rules) with the recitation of some simple prayers.
January 13, 2019 - Today is the Octave Day of Epiphany and on this day the focus is on the revelation of God to man through the Baptism of our Lord Jesus Christ. In this reflection we use the Icon of the Baptism of our Lord to hear the Early Church teachings of what God did for us through Jesus Christ as He would be baptized in the Jordan River.
