This Week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Daniel back on the show as we discuss the 1985 comedy (?), The Man with One Red Shoe.  Tom Hanks, Dabney Coleman, Charles Durning.  What could go wrong.  This.   This could go wrong.  This movie is supposed to be a comedy, but it has few laughs.  It's supposed to be spy thriller, but has no thrills and the spies are all generic garbage.  We always have fun discussing these movies, even the bad ones, but this one kind of left us all feeling empty.   We still laughed, but maybe not how the creators of this movie wanted us to.  Enjoy the podcast.

Adam is giving us the low down on a nitty gritty cop flick with Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider called “The French Connection”. You’ll have to see what these fellas have to say about their films of bygone era and whether or not you should check them out too. Then we get into our main event as always. The boys will be covering the films of SNL fame. This doesn’t just include the movies that have been specifically produced by Saturday Night Live but rules that Ron and Adam arbitrarily, but thoughtfully, put in place to determine an “SNL Alum” flick. For Ron it was any film with at least two SNL Alumni members in predominant roles. Adam skewed it similarly but his rules were any film that included at least 3 SNL cast members, former or present. To avoid overlap and give you a true top 10 from our Cinemasters, they each concocted a list greater than 5 so they could pivot on a dime and give you, the viewer, just what you needed. Finally we round out this episode with another installment of “Who Played it Better?” where Ron and Adam challenge each other to recast a film to see if they are up to the challenge of executing an award winning casting call or not. The boys really stuck it to each other with this round and it will be compelling to see how each of them handles it. The bad news is we have a soundboard this episode, the good news is we don't use it much. John forgets the word "cash register" and we cut out a bit where he also forgot the phrase "plastic surgery." Before he was Forrest Gump, Tom Hanks was the titular character in this forgettable 80's spy movie for kids.

Lyndsey selects her VHS copy of The Man with One Red Shoe, the bizarre 1985 spy comedy starring Tom Hanks, Lori Singer, Jim Belushi, Carrie Fischer, Edward Herrmann, and Dabney Coleman. This film is a 20th Century Fox Selection, which is "a selected series of films available at a special value for a limited time".

All three of the crew are back for this week's NSFW conversation that covers old-timey nightcaps, the 80's classic Porky's and Gustav's questionable taste in outdoor magazines. The boys start off with a little post Christmas clean up talk but soon wander into the story of how Mrs. Gustav did something to lead Gustav into being, as he put it, "not opposed to nightcaps."  This leads then to a discussion about current eighties movies on Netflix, Ty's love of Vision Quest starring Matthew Modine and Linda Fiorentino, and The Man with One Red Shoe, starring Tom Hanks and the greatness of Dabney Coleman. Gustav then pulls out a copy of one of his favorite outdoors magazines and shares this issues's table of contents, many of which with questionable interest to anyone other than Gustav and Heavy.  Heavy and Gus then discuss other magazines related to self-sufficiency, homesteading and general 903 interests. Then attention turns to George DiGionni's nut kicking display and Gustav recounts the Polynesian's dad being in a nut kicking contest back in the late sixties.  Ty then recalls his odd drive-thru experience and may have just coined the term "frotterist" This leads to frottage, scissoring and tribbing talk with some odd hand gestures that the listener will just have to figure out for themselves. If you like stories about the stuff Gustav's kids say, you are in luck because he has two incidents for you this week.  Heavy has some questionable recollections about Old Testamant scripture and later denies any knowledge of the "popcorn trick". They circle back to eighties movies with a discussion about Porky's, the hotness of Kim Cattrall and how Porky's 2 helped Ty in a tough time.  To finish off, they respond to an email from one of Gustav's former work wives. Two of the more exasperating and amusing child patrons we had at the "liberry" were Little Kevin and Little Chuck Martin. They were very intelligent, sometimes bitingly funny, but often a bit spacey and prone to making the job of "liberry" ass. a difficult one. I still count them among the good eggs, but that made them no less challenging (or funny) to deal with.
