Bayern Munich celebrated their 34th Meisterschale in Thomas Müller's final home match. In Hamburg, things got even crazier as the "Red Shorts" returned to the Bundesliga after seven painful years. Bochum and Kiel were relegated, but the "Storks" look much more poised for an immediate comeback. Can Heidenheim still catch Hoffenheim and escape the relegation playoffs? The "Hopp boys" welcome champions Bayern – a game that could swing either way. The biggest showdown of the weekend will go down in Freiburg, where Frankfurt and Freiburg battle it out for Champions League qualification. Borussia Dortmund spoiled the party at Xabi Alonso's final home game and can qualify for the UCL with a win over relegated Kiel.

Florida bans instruction on contraception and consent in sex ed classesPopular, By Rebecca Crosby, on September 25, 2024 https://popular.info/p/florida-bans-instruction-on-contraceptionFlorida's recent policy changes in sex education are stirring significant concern among advocates for comprehensive health education. As of September 2024, schools in Florida are required to submit their sex education materials for state review, ensuring adherence to strict abstinence-only guidelines. This new policy explicitly bans visual representations of reproductive anatomy and prohibits discussions about contraception, which can only be mentioned as a health resource. Children from kindergarten through high school are expected to be taught that abstaining from sexual activity outside of marriage is the standard behavior. This shift has raised alarm bells regarding the welfare of children in the state. The conversation reveals a deep frustration about the implications of such education policies. Educators and advocates argue that providing children with accurate information about sex is crucial for their safety and wellbeing. There's a shared belief that withholding essential information leaves children vulnerable to misinformation, exploitation, and unhealthy behaviors, as they will inevitably seek answers from less reliable sources, such as peers or the internet. The dialogue also touches upon the importance of discussing consent in sex education, noting that banning these discussions creates a dangerous environment for young people. The speakers express a strong conviction that understanding consent and recognizing the signs of abuse are vital for preventing victimization. Without this knowledge, children may not know how to protect themselves in abusive situations. The discussion emphasizes that neglecting these topics is not merely a failure of education but a failure of society to protect its most vulnerable members.Statistics further support the argument against abstinence-only education, highlighting a correlation between such programs and rising rates of sexually transmitted infections and teen pregnancies. In states where comprehensive sex education is taught, the data shows that adolescents tend to delay sexual activity. The conversation ultimately underscores the idea that parents and educators share a responsibility to provide children with accurate, comprehensive information about sex and relationships. While some argue that these discussions should happen exclusively at home, the speakers contend that many parents lack the resources or knowledge to have these important conversations, emphasizing the need for a supportive educational framework to supplement parental guidance. In summary, the push for abstinence-only education in Florida not only undermines the necessity of comprehensive sex education but also poses significant risks to the health and safety of children. The speakers advocate for informed discussions that prepare young people for the complexities of relationships and empower them to make safe and healthy choices. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.40.2  featuring Infidel64, Jonathan Roudabush, and Eli SlackBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

In the latest episode of Blessing the Book: Nurturing Readers through Stories, Sharon Callen explores how thoughtfully selected children's books can transform classrooms and create meaningful connections with young readers. Sharon introduces her concept of “blessing” books—honouring the stories and voices of the authors while guiding students through rich discussions that build empathy, spark imagination, and deepen their understanding of the world around them. The episode highlights a variety of titles that range from heartfelt explorations of family and grief to exciting tales of adventure and mystery. Each book offers unique classroom connections that encourage students to think critically and creatively. Whether it's The Letterbox Tree, a tale of environmental resilience, or The Impossible Secret of Lillian Velvet, which dives into magic and time travel, Sharon shows how these stories open up new avenues for students to reflect on their own experiences and the world at large.Sharon's approach emphasises the power of the read-aloud experience, where teachers can bring books to life simply by sharing them with students. Whether it's a novel in verse or an adventurous historical fiction, these moments of shared reading allow for deeper exploration of emotions, themes, and the beauty of storytelling. The episode reinforces how, through books, teachers can foster empathy and curiosity, transforming both their students and classrooms in profound ways. It is a celebration of the magic of literature and its power to nurture readers who think critically, connect deeply, and engage joyfully with the written word.RESOURCESBooks:The Letterbox Tree by Rebecca Lim and Kate GordonJane Doe and the Quill of All Tales by Jeremy LachlanDusty in the Outwilds by Rhiannon WilliamsMeet Me at the Moon Tree by Shivaun PlozzaThe Impossible Secret of Lillian Velvet by Jaclyn Moriarty (Author), Kelly Canby (Illustrator)The Bookseller's Apprentice by Amelia MellorSilver Linings by Katrina NannestadWaiting for the Storks by Katrina NannestadMy Brother Ben by Peter CarnavasWhat Snail Knows by Kathryn ApelHow to Spell Catastrophe by Fiona WoodSunshine on Vinegar Street by Karen ComerPodcast:Read Aloud: Mem Fox on Capturing hearts and Minds through LiteratureJOIN TEACHIFIC NOW AND SAVE!Join Teachific  today. It's 2007. Spider-Man 3 is the top grossing film at the box office. Beyonce's “Irreplaceable” is the biggest hit song. American Idol is the most watched TV show.It was also the last time that the United States was at replacement level fertility, which is 2.1 children born per woman. In the years following, through the ups and downs of the great recession, the 2016 election, and the COVID-19 pandemic, the rate has fallen to 1.66 children per woman. When you zoom out, you'll see that American birth rates have been falling for decades. But this is far from the phenomenon isolated to the United States. The 2020 fertility rate in the U.K. was 1.6. In Germany it was 1.5. Finland hit 1.4. Denmark and Sweden were both at 1.7. In South Korea, it's a shocking 0.81.In response to these long-run trends, some have advocated pro-natalist government policies to incentivize more reproduction, or to at least smooth the way for people who want to have more kids. But are the policies effective? Elizabeth Nolan Brown, senior editor at Reason magazine, says “no.” In the cover story for the June 2023 issue of Reason, Brown surveys the flagging international reproductive landscape and the government policies that have been enacted to address that problem. In the end, she advocates, at a minimum, not panicking.Today, Eric Kohn talks to Elizabeth Nolan Brown about the falling birthrates, failing pro-natalist policies, and how we should think about a world when fewer and fewer people are expecting.Subscribe to our podcastsStorks Don't Take Orders From the State | Reason Hosted on Acast. Both storks and cranes are wading birds.  They dwell in similar habitats and look similar.  They have long legs and a long, curving neck. However, these birds belong to separate orders and families and aren't closely related to each other at all. In this episode we look at cranes and storks. Featured Image: Syed Ahmad from Unsplash.

It's Friday, August 12th, A.D. 2022. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. By Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com) Taiwanese prayer service for Chinese human rights lawyer On August 10th, Jinan Presbyterian Church in Taiwan held a prayer service for a Chinese Christian human rights lawyer named Gao Zhisheng, reports International Christian Concern. Since his practice began in 1996, Mr. Gao has defended Christians, coal miners, and farmers who have been targeted by the Chinese government for “threatening social stability.” He has been nominated for two Nobel Peace Prizes. Needless to say, his effort to bring justice for the marginalized is considered a threat to the Chinese Communist Party. Officials have detained the human rights attorney, physically abused him, and denied him medical treatment. Five years ago, officials forcibly imprisoned Gao Zhisheng. Today, his whereabouts are unknown. Sadly, his children have not seen their father in over 10 years. Please pray for Gao Zhisheng and his family as they await his release. Attorney General personally approved FBI raid of Trump's home U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said Thursday that he "personally approved" the search warrant of former President Donald Trump's personal residence at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, reports CNSNews.com. GARLAND: “First, I personally approved the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter. Second, the department does not take such a decision lightly.” The attorney general did not address why the raid was conducted in the manner it was instead of issuing a subpoena. He also did not say what the FBI was looking for in the raid. Plus, Garland said that he filed a motion to make the search warrant and property receipt public. GARLAND: “The former president publicly confirmed the search that evening, as is his right. The Department filed the motion to make public the warrant and receipt in light of the former president's public confirmation of the search, the surrounding circumstances, and the substantial public interest in this matter.” NYC mayor vs. Texas Gov. over busing illegals to Big Apple Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott is busing some of the illegal immigrants, who have crossed the border into Texas, up to New York City. He explained his motivation on Fox News. ABBOTT: “Texans are fed up with what the Biden administration has done on our border, the chaos that it's caused, the damage that it's caused in the state of Texas. And that is exactly why we are sending these illegal immigrants to places like Washington D.C. and New York City.” But Democrat New York City Mayor Eric Adams is furious, and has threatened to bring New Yorkers to the Lone Star state to campaign for Abbott's Democrat opponent this November, Beto O'Rourke. ADAMS: “I am deeply contemplating taking a busload of New Yorkers to go to Texas and do some good old fashioned door knocking because, for the good of America, we have to get [Greg Abbott] out of office.” When Faulkner Harris asked Governor Abbott for his reaction, he said this. ABBOTT: “You know, I kind of feel like Clint Eastwood. ‘Go ahead Mayor, make my day!'  There could hardly be anything better to aid my campaign against Beto O'Rourke than to have Beto O'Rourke have his campaign aided by a bunch of New Yorkers. That will not be viewed very positively in the state of Texas.” Abbott was confused by the anger of the New York City Mayor. ABBOTT: “Listen, New York is a sanctuary city. Mayor Adams said that they welcome in illegal immigrants.  And now, once they have to deal with the reality of it, they're suddenly flummoxed and they cannot handle it. They are now getting a taste of what we're having to deal with.” Disney mainstreams drag queen Ready for another reason to cancel Disney+ if you stream it on your television? Disney+ has welcomed popular drag queen Jaren Merrell, who goes by the stage name “Shea Couleé,” to the streaming service for its upcoming Marvel series about a teen superhero in “Ironheart,” coming to the site in 2023. The 33-year-old homosexual man spoke to E! News about getting the part on the show about a 15-year-old superhero. The winner of “RuPaul's Drag Race” reality show said, “It's really so humbling to be able to crossover into a much more mainstream avenue, and push the needle forward as far as drag is concerned, in the way that it's consumed and in pop culture.” But Deuteronomy 22:5 says, “A woman must not wear men's clothing, nor a man wear women's clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this.” Return of Ukraine storks becomes a symbol of hope for country And finally, a picture of a stalwart mother stork nesting her two chicks in Ukraine has become a “symbol of hope” for the country, reports the GoodNewsNetwork.org. The new nest was photographed on the outskirts of Kyiv—months after a violent invasion interrupted the normal arrival of the majestic species for annual mating there. Storks nest in Ukraine every spring after wintering in Africa. Of the 224,000 storks that visit Europe every year, 16 percent build new nests or return to established ones in Ukraine, and raise chicks through the end of summer. Some birds have begun to return to their usual nesting areas now, bringing hope to Ukrainians living with the aftermath of the Russian invasion. Proverbs 13:12 says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” According to Oleg Dudkin, the Director of the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Birds, the stork “has come to symbolize not merely a mother's devotion to her young but also the great love and devotion of Ukrainians to their motherland and a readiness not to leave. The storks returned a few days after the Russian troops left the village and immediately began to rearrange their usual nesting place.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Friday, August 12th, in the year of our Lord 2022. Subscribe by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.
