We often hear that it's harder to raise kids today than ever before. That isn't true, of course. All eras down through history have been challenging. We live in a world scarred by sin, after all, and children grow up among all sorts of temptations. That's why the role of a parent is something to take seriously, as a sacred duty. We've been discussing the best practical guide for living: the Bible. Nowhere is this truer than in its practical wisdom for raising successful children. Although we all have the freedom to make our own choices—and your kids certainly will make their own decisions—they benefit greatly from a loving father or mother who also loves the Lord. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Start children off in the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” This isn't the kind of thing you hope for—this is scripture, the Word of God, and can be relied on to bring about the promise made. The Lord will honor your commitment to raising children who love their Creator. One way to do that is to be bold in your discussions with your children, who likely hear anti-God stuff from school, and entertainment. For example, talk with them as if you believe the Bible is really true. Then point out that the book of Exodus commands all of us to value our parents. Exodus 20:12 says, “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God has given you.” It doesn't hurt to point out the bonus: long life. Make sure that you also share with your children the wonderful practical tips from the Bible. Much of it will save them a broken heart down the road. For example, Proverbs 18:24 says, “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” This is repeated in the New Testament in 1 Corinthians 15:33, which says, “Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.” God's Word promises us a sound mind. This state of being will help your children in everything they do from completing school assignments to caring for elderly relatives. A child who knows the Lord, and prays consistently, will become a human being you can be proud of. Let's pray. Father God, children are a gift from you. They are a sacred treasure—entrusted to us for a little while. Remind us daily of our role in shaping their lives, so that they are healthy, and content, in the world that you made for them. In Jesus' name, amen. Change your shirt, and you can change the world! Save 15% Off your entire purchase of faith-based apparel + gifts at Kerusso.com with code KDD15.

Have you ever witnessed unethical actions in your workplace? Would you remain quiet? Would take steps to have these misdeeds stopped? What influences your decision?Paula Pedene, Paula Pedene & Associates of Phoenix, Arizona, recognized massive misdeeds by senior officials at the Veterans Administration hospital in Phoenix and began to take steps to end this travesty that caused the death of some veterans. She began to face an onslaught of unfair and punishing treatment. Paula was bloodied but stood tall through it all. Bent but not broken. She enlisted sympathetic co-workers to assist in assembling data and facts to support their claims. Her efforts paid off. She gained the support of local media, and members of Congress that responded to her detailed information. In the end, she provided the details and data that removed multiple senior officials from the VA hospital. Paula's efforts were recognized with a PRSA PR Pro of the year award. She was also inducted into the Defense Information School Hall of Fame and she published her book: "A Sacred Duty."Link to Paula Pedene:https://paulapedene.com/Podcast Video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3D54NRSyeXsSupport the show

Whistleblower Paula Pedene thought she had found her dream job. But her commitment to honesty and integrity led to a nightmare – one that should infuriate every one of us. Her story is chronicled in the book “A Sacred Duty; How a Whistleblower Took on the VA and Won.” Paula enlisted in 1978 and became a Navy journalist. She re-enlisted for the Gulf War but a hereditary eye disease eventually ended her military career. In 1994 she was appointed the first full time Public Affairs officer for the Phoenix Veterans Administration Health Center. She led the Phoenix VA to national recognition and awards. However, a new administrator who was inclined to his own betterment rather than putting the Veterans first led to her first conflict. He delayed and denied care in order to secure additional equipment. Dr. Sam Foote was the original whistleblower in this situation and approached Paula about reporting the conditions and she agreed to step up. An internal investigation found $ 11 million in shortfalls but Paula was branded. Incoming administrators sought out minor infractions to punish Paula, literally exiling her to the basement. What was supposed to be a 30 day investigation turned into two years in limbo. But she would not give up. The new administrators were “gaming the system” in order to secure performance bonuses. They were literally keeping two sets of appointment books. Testimony and later investigations revealed that as many as 3.500 Veterans were stranded on these “alternate” lists and 1,800 could not secure primary care appointments. Some died while waiting for appointments. Eventually, thanks to many allied whistleblowers within the VA, Congress and the media, the Phoenix VA state of affairs (and similar situations around the country) was finally brought to light. Of the 156 VA hospitals nationwide, similar wait list situations were occurring at 111 of them. Paula received redemption. TAKEAWAY: “The Veterans Administration is an agency with a very noble mission. But the bureaucracy sometimes lets bad actors maneuver and it needs a culture change.”
"A Sacred Duty" - A Look at A Whistleblower's Nightmare gives us a personal account of the VA Hospital Patient Care Scandal. This podcast episode is about a courageous woman who did what was right and was tormented for it. This is a scandal that began before the year 2014. Veterans began dying because VA Hospital Officials were delaying care and lying about it. We know about this because of a couple of Whistleblowers. These VA workers would not stop until the public and lawmakers knew what was happening. Behind the scenes, one of these whistle-blowers was being bullied horribly by administrators. My guest is Paula Pedene, the VA Public Relations professional working at the Phoenix, Arizona Veteran's Administration's Hospital during the scandal that resulted in the deaths of Veterans. I worked with Paula in Washington D.C. She is a friend—an award-winning PR Professional, and now an author. Her book is “A Sacred Duty, how a Whistleblower took on the VA and Won.” by Paula Pedene. This next guest is someone I deeply admire, and when I heard her incredible story. I was so moved and blown away by her courage and tenacity. Paula Pedene is a nationally recognized public relations strategist, Veteran's Affairs Whistleblower, and author. Her book is called A Sacred Duty. This is the true story of how a visually impaired, decorated Navy veteran's life and family started to unravel when she's targeted for retaliation after bringing to light mismanagement and harassment at a Veterans Administration hospital.Psychologically crippled by the attacks – and battling financial ruin, ruthless superiors, a skeptical media, and her two sons' emotional crises – she fights back, refusing to surrender to a system that is stacked against her. Working with a bulldog congressional investigator, an ornery VA doctor, and a husband who believes in her, she becomes a central figure in exposing a conspiracy that rocked the nation, killed dozens of veterans, provoked nationwide outrage, and ultimately brought down the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. She is also a respected Navy Journalist and one of the original anchors of Navy Video News in the mid-80s. A true pioneer and trailblazer!Purchase her book - https://www.paulapedene.com/a-sacred-duty-book/

In this episode, John talks about improving trust ratings, journey mapping, and reaching underserved communities.Quotes“If we're going to create this world-class customer experience for our veterans and their families, caregivers, and survivors, then we also have to make sure that we provide a world-class employee experience for 400,000 men and women that serve here in the VA everyday.” “If we think just not only along the lines of age, race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender in general, we have to design for all of these different customer types to ensure that some of the most underserved veterans and their families are out or are engaged and retained as customers and that they choose VA for their care and benefits so that we can fulfill our sacred oath and our commitment to them.”“The United States military creates the largest number of displaced workers every year. 250,000 young men and women leave active service. And they move from Virginia to Texas or California to Missouri or Missouri to Florida and the professional and personal networks that they have at their duty station that do not translate to the communities that they return to. And so they have a difficult time finding work and finding a new social or that unit mentality, that social net social network, so to speak that we have in the military, that comradery that we so miss. And that can lead to negative health and economic outcomes. So how can we be on the front end of that transition, improve it, negative health and economic outcomes by wrapping our arms around these individuals and their families at that point of transition and then at the same time deliver a delightful customer experience?”Time Stamps*[4:09] Shifting to human-centered design*[6:05] The sacred duty to serve Veterans*[7:15] How the VA has improved trust ratings by 23%*[10:26] Leveraging tech to give more Veterans access to services*[12:50] The birth of the Veterans Experience Officer and the first journey map*[16:54] The core values of the VA in CX*[18:46] Using data to increase access and improve outcomes for Veterans*[20:47] Meeting the unique challenges of Veterans after active service*[24:14] Learning to meet the needs of LGBTQ and BIPOC Veterans*[27:31] Measuring the effectiveness of CX initiatives*[31:58] Meeting Veterans at their point of transition to civilian life*[32:33] Addressing mental health needs among Veterans*[39:00] Owning the momentBioJohn is a native Texan who served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1999-2007 as a non-commissioned officer and infantry unit leader, including one combat tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004-2005 and Operation Natural Fire in the Republic of Kenya in 2006. THE COP26 climate-change conference begins in Glasgow, on Sunday (31 October). So this seemed like a good time to revisit a special podcast that we posted a year ago: Everybody Now, a podcast about what it means to be human on the threshold of a global climate emergency, in a time of systemic injustice and runaway pandemics. Scientists, activists, farmers, poets, and theologians talk bravely and frankly about how our biosphere is changing, about grief and hope in an age of social collapse and mass extinction, and about taking action against all the odds. On 19 October 2020, Everybody Now was released by podcasters all over the world as a collective call for awareness, grief, and loving action. With contributions from: Dr Gail Bradbrook, scientist and co-founder of Extinction Rebellion Professor Kevin Anderson, Professor of Energy and Climate Change at the University of Manchester Dámaris Albuquerque, works with agricultural communities in Nicaragua The Rt Revd Dr Rowan Williams, theologian and poet, and a former Archbishop of Canterbury Pádraig Ó Tuama, poet, theologian, and conflict mediator Rachel Mander, environmental activist with Hope for the Future John Swales, priest and activist, and part of a community for marginalised people Zena Kazeme, Persian-Iraqi poet who draws on her experiences as a former refugee to create poetry that explores themes of exile, home, war, and heritage Flo Brady, singer and theatre maker Hannah Malcolm, Anglican ordinand, climate writer, and organiser Alastair McIntosh, writer, academic, and land rights activist David Benjamin Blower, musician, poet, and podcaster Funding and Production: This podcast was crowdfunded by a handful of good souls, and produced by Tim Nash and David Benjamin Blower (www.nomadpodcast.co.uk). Permissions: The song Happily by Flo Brady is used with permission. The song The Soil, from We Really Existed and We Really Did This by David Benjamin Blower, used with permission. A continuation in our series on I John.
Today on the podcast, I'm joined by my friend, Joe Jackowski. Joe now holds a bachelor's from the University of Michigan in biopsychology cognition and neuroscience. As he finished up his degree, he took it upon himself to continue exploring where his interests have taken him in psychology specifically. He's been exploring two very influential psychologists and psychotherapists, Erich Neumann and Camille Paglia. So in this conversation, he lays out some of the ideas that he's been exploring for himself while using these greats before him to provide a foundation. In some sense, that's what we do in this conversation because we don't spend enough time looking back at humanity's past at the ways of being that we all can share or learn from at a symbolic level. Joe believes that we should be paying deeper attention to the religions of the world and the other stories that are even older than the current modern religions, the Greeks and the Romans and the Egyptians and so forth. There's so much to talk about, so for fear of using up too much time in this intro, I love this conversation for all that it's worth. We get into religion, we get into art, and we get into Parenthood. At the end of the day, life is meant to be a journey. Now here in the modern world, we get to share our journeys with so many more people than we would have otherwise. I really hope you take one gem from this conversation and run with it. So with that, please enjoy this conversation with Joe Jackowski. Archives Listen to the Prayer Audio: PRAYER FOCUS: LISTENING IS A SACRED DUTY IN GOD’S ARMY LISTEN WITH YOUR HEART AND YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH STOP THE SLANDER, GOSSIP BACK BITING & RIDICULE! Heavenly Father, During this time we are with You we seek Your protection with Warrior Angels all around us to shelter us from the attacks of the enemy, that his frequency is scrambled and his radar is jammed so that all that we hear from You will be clear to us and we will stand firm in our Faith that pleases You! Lord, we want to see as You see! To hear Your Word to us and to act upon it to spread Your Kingdom here in America and around the earth especially in those nations who are joining this Army to fight the good fight and be a part of Your Victorious Plan for us. We are not doom and gloomers but warriors filled with Faith knowing that what You have Promised is coming to pass in our day because of repentance and giving our will up to be one with Your Will. Lord in this time of a spiritual civil war going on in America we stand firmly with You and the anointed leadership You have given us in President Trump and the righteous men and women who stand with him and are instruments of bringing Justice & Truth in our Life! Father, we seek a shield of Protection around President Trump in all that he does to bring Peace into our Nation and protect us from the enemy both here in our land and around the world. We are thankful that You give him Wisdom and sharpness of tongue and boldness of heart to face the challenges before him. Lord we are thankful that You have groomed him to speak out in the face of the enemy and proclaim that we are a Christian nation and we promote life here and wherever we are called to help others in their struggle for freedom and stop the tyranny of globalists and all of the efforts to bring America down and raise up a one world government and religion and all the forms of control and captivity that has been planned and been brought into existence. Lord continue to expose those who are liars, deceivers and betrayers so that we can take up our duty to use the power of our Voice & Vote to oust these enemies from any seat of power they may have stolen or connived to obtain. That we will see even in this very time of tension that they face the Justice they deserve. Thank You Lord for Justice served! Father we seek to bring our assemblies or what we call churches under complete cleansing from all those who have led us blindly into a distortion of what even Your Scriptures mean and show us. Lord that the true shepherds arise even more quickly so that we will worship You in spirit and truth. Lord we know You want us to prosper according to Your plan for us so that we might share the Gospel and mentor others to be true disciples that serve without murmuring, gossiping, backbiting, ridiculing or using a spirit of religion to judge one another. Lord we want the mind of Christ Jesus to see others in love and to be overwhelmed as He was with love to even sacrifice for others as He did for us! Lord we have so much to learn but we are so grateful that You are patient with us and yet Your Holy Spirit leads swiftly to accomplish that which You have written in our book to fulfill and we are destined to be! Thank You for the righteous men and women You have anointed to lead us in such a time as this! Bless them and protect them to fulfill bringing about healing and comfort to all who have been harmed by the evil of the perversion of sex and all forms of abuse, especially our children. Lord we are so grateful that we see men and women who make sacrifices to make right that which has been wrong. Thank You Lord for a man like Governor Abbot of Texas who steps in to see the injustice and absurdity of this transgenderism being brought to bear on an innocent 7 year old boy. O Lord there is so much of this abomination in our land. We say Enough of this insanity we proclaim proper love an...

Interview with Senator Tom Cotton on his book "Sacred Duty": 6/27/19, Hr. 2 by Conduit Media
US Senator Tom Cotton’s Sacred Duty offers a look at “The Old Guard,” the storied U.S. Army unit whose mission today is to honor our country’s fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery. Cotton a 7th generation Arkansas farmer was a platoon leader with the storied 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment—The Old Guard—between combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Old Guard has embodied the ideals of honor and sacrifice across our nation’s history. America’s oldest active-duty regiment, dating back to 1784, The Old Guard conducts daily military-honor funerals on the 624 rolling acres of Arlington, where generations of American heroes rest. Its soldiers hold themselves to the standard of perfection in the sweltering heat, frigid cold, and driving rain. Every funeral is a no-fail, zero-defect mission, whether honoring a legendary general or a humble private. In researching and writing the book, Cotton returned to Arlington and shadowed the regiment’s soldiers, from daily funerals to the state funeral of President George H. W. Bush to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, reliving the honor—and the challenges—of duty at the nation’s “most sacred shrine.” Part history of The Old Guard, part memoir of Cotton’s time at Arlington, part intimate profile of the today’s soldiers, Sacred Duty is an unforgettable testament to the timeless power of service and sacrifice to our nation. Senator Cotton discusses his military experiences and Sacred Duty with host Jim Fausone.
An extraordinary journey behind the scenes of Arlington National Cemetery, Senator Tom Cotton’s Sacred Duty offers an intimate and inspiring portrait of “The Old Guard,” the revered U.S. Army unit whose mission is to honor our country’s fallen heroes on the most hallowed ground in America. Cotton was a platoon leader with the storied 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment—The Old Guard—between combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. At the height of the Iraq Surge, he carried the flag-draped remains of his fallen comrades off of airplanes at Dover Air Force Base, and he laid them to rest in Arlington’s famed Section 60, “the saddest acre in America.” He also performed hundreds of funerals for veterans of the Greatest Generation, as well as the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Arlington National Cemetery is the most sacred shrine in America. Its hallowed grounds contain presidents, privates, and some of the most famous names in military and political history—Supreme Court justices, five-star generals, and Medal of Honor recipients—as well as liberated slaves, and, at the fabled Tomb of the Unknown, the bodies of soldiers known only to God. Sacred Duty, is not only an intimate and inspiring portrait of Arlington National Cemetery’s Old Guard (the official ceremonial unit of the U.S. Army and America’s oldest infantry unit, dating to 1784), but also a personal chronicle of Senator Cotton’s time as a platoon leader in the unit. In writing and researching the book, Senator Cotton has spent the past year closely shadowing the unit’s soldiers, original reporting that forms the spine of the book. Tom Cotton is a United States Senator from Arkansas. He served in Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division and in Afghanistan with a Provincial Reconstruction Team. Between combat tours, he served with the United States Army’s 3rd Infantry Regiment (“The Old Guard”) at Arlington National Cemetery. His military decorations include the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Ranger Tab. He served one term in the House of Representatives before election to the Senate.

Before becoming a U.S. senator, Tom Cotton served his country in Iraq and Afghanistan. He earned a Bronze Star and was elected to Congress from Arkansas in 2012. Two years later, he defeated a two-term Democrat incumbent to become a 37-year-old senator. And now, in a new book called “Sacred Duty: A Soldier’s Tour at Arlington National Cemetery,” Cotton tells the remarkable story of The Old Guard and its important role as the Army’s oldest active-duty infantry unit. After returning from his Iraq deployment, Cotton served at Arlington with the Army’s official ceremonial unit. The experience led him to research The Old Guard’s rich history and write “Sacred Duty.” He spoke to The Daily Signal about the book.We also cover these stories:• Tensions between the U.S. and Iran remain high, but President Trump says it's "fake news" that he's considering sending 120,000 troops to Middle East.• Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announces Russia hacked two of its counties during 2016 election, although he stresses no votes were affected.• Rod Rosenstein dismisses James Comey as a "partisan pundit."The Daily Signal podcast is available on Ricochet, iTunes, SoundCloud, Google Play, or Stitcher.
