Today's episode we're talking gratitude and the brain. We have an automatic negative bias and it takes longer to process happiness in the brain. This is one reason practicing gratitude, building awareness, and recognizing the good things that bring us bits of joy in our days is such a powerful tool to counteract stress and negative bias. The more you practice gratitude the more your brain looks for things to give it that hit of dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin (these are the neurochemicals that helps us feel connected and emotionally regulated) Caring for yourself in proactive rather than reactive ways that help increase the threshold to stress and give you a sense of self-directed accomplishment and satisfaction… maybe even get crazy and celebrate your efforts and yourself! Get in there and give it a listen for more!Resources:"Effects of gratitude meditation on neural network functional connectivity and brain-heart coupling."-Manage Your Stress MentorshipDiscovery call Support the showResources:Manage Your Stress MentorshipDiscovery call You can find more about Brain-Body Resilience and JPB:On the BBR WebsiteOn InstagramOn FacebookSign up for the BBR newsletter
Well we weren't ready for just how deep this topic was... This is one of our longer, meatier episodes for sure, but hang in there with us on our journey about infertility and a certain barren woman in the Bible who doesn't get a lot of attention. Even if it is not something you deal with personally, you definitely know someone who is/has dealt with infertility! Please listen, rate, and share with those who need encouragement and a Biblical perspective on infertility. Stage and screen star Bayardo de Murguia (Netflix's Pretty Little Things) joins us on the podcast to talk about his new role on Apple TV+ hit comedy series Acapulco, the larger-than-life television host Fabian Solares, who he describes as a cross between gossip columnist Perez Hilton and astrologer and TV icon Walter Mercado. Bayardo also advises actors to only focus on the things they can control and let go of what they can't, which he admits is easier said than done but still important and that actors need to find things to ground them and bring them joy outside of just acting. Thanks for tuning in! If you enjoyed the episode, please subscribe to the channel to never miss an episode!
Love it or loathe it. As soon as the first letter of the month turns to J, the reality show Love Island is EVERYWHERE from slogan tees to water bottles to wash bags. Now in the past the show's been sponsored by fashion brands like BooHoo and the stars often go on to do collections for sites like Pretty Little Things but the programme makers have faced a backlash for promoting fast fashion – there has been criticism of poor standards for for workers and the environmental impact is huge. So ITV studios have made a major shift. eBay is the new sponsor. And all the items will be pre-loved. i.e. second hand…so basically you can't shop the look exactly but you can shop a look of the look. Their aim – to help shoppers “find the pre-love of your life.” And my guest on Show Me The Way this week is someone who believes that "everything a person needs to wear or use is already in existence." Stay tuned for tips on how to buy the best pre-loved and how it really can make a difference to the planet and your pocket. My guest today is Emily, founder of Emily London – vintage and preloved style. She's a former fashion and beauty journalist for Tatler and Vogue and e-commerce exect for Net-a-Porter's TheOutNet and Refinery29…so basically she knows a LOT about fashion.

This week is a good one for anyone interested in the current state of the fashion industry. I chat with my wonderful colleague, Katriona Flynn. Katriona is a fashion designer and educator, a graduate of the National College of Art & Design (NCAD) here in Dublin, and Central St Martins in London. She went on to design with brands as diverse as Urban Outfitters and the luxury brand Burberry, before joining our fashion buying programme team at TU Dublin over 3 years ago now. Katriona is an absolute tonic to work with, full of enthusiasm and energy, and she loves chatting fashion. So I wanted to pick up with Katriona a conversation I had contributed to a couple of weeks ago with an RTE journalist, about the future of high street fashion, post-Covid and post-Brexit. In the end, we go down various rabbit holes, but it’s all fashion-related, so if you want to hear an academic take on an oft-thought frivolous matter, listen in! TOPICS INCLUDE: Is fashion brand, Topshop relevant anymore? Will we miss these high street stores on the physical high street? Why are the less design-led brands surviving the fashion fallout?Channel 4's 'Inside Missguided: Made in Manchester' - a sad reflection of what the fashion industry is becoming - more focused on social media & marketing, than product and designDresses for 8 pence on Pretty Little Things on Black Friday - demeaning to fashion design The price war is to the detriment of the fashion industry Why are we still over-consuming even in a pandemic when we have nowhere to go?Are we addicted to the consumption of fashion?Do this generation of fashion consumers just accept low-quality clothing as the norm?Should it be up to the consumer to change the retail industry?I manage to align fast-fashion garments with frozen convenience food?!! Future of Fashion: People, Planet & ProfitWill we care more about the fashion industry after this pandemic? Care where our clothes came from, and care who made them?Fashion: all an illusion, concealing a nightmare - All Smoke & MirrorsOpportunity for digital technology to reduce waste in the sampling & developing process in luxury brandsCheck your care labels!!Garments made to become obsolete - hard-wearing clothing seen as unprofitable to the fashion industryUltimately, there is a need for regulation in the fashion industry to instigate the urgent change we need to save our environment and planet Is the meaning of 'sustainability' and 'luxury' lost in fashion?Chats about our preferred brands right nowIs fashion all a little soulless right now? You are what you wear - fashion & identity People dress how they would like to be attended to Karl Marx and commodity fetishism - the problematic separation of consumption from production Future of the high street store? Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens are some of Julie Andrews' favorite things, and they're great – but today, we're talking about mine. This time of year, in the cold, and in a pandemic, it can be a little hard to find things to be happy about, so I wanted to put together a list of things that I have really loved in the last little while. None of these links are affiliate links, I just think they're great, and you might too. First of all, reading. It's hard to avoid doomscrolling our social feeds, but it is considerably easier if you have something more pleasant to consume. Amazon Prime Reading and the New York Public Library are two of my favorite resources, and some of the books I've really enjoyed recently are Pretty Little Things by Janelle Brown, and Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. If you're more in the mood for something to watch, check out The Prom on Netflix if you like a feel good song and dance movie with Meryl Streep. (Who doesn't?) Another show I enjoyed recently is Zoe's Extraordinary Playlist o NBC – if you're a theatre fan like I am, you'll enjoy it. Finally, I watched A Million Little Things – on ABC – this is a show with wonderful character development as a group of friends navigate the aftermath of a tragedy. Taking care of our bodies is as important as entertaining our minds. As you probably know, I work with Dr Brandon Mancuso for training, and you can watch a video I made with him last year about conquering next and back pain for good! For workout clothes, on the recommendation of a friend, I finally tried Lululemon leggings. I was surprised by just how comfortable they are. By the same token, Sketchers socks. Trust me. I've also found a couple of new body products I'm really enjoying: Thrive Mascara is good for the earth, vegan, toxin free, and goes on beautifully, and silicon makeup sponges, which I know everyone else has been using forever, but I just tried and loved. Finally, it's important to remember to take a little time for yourself. I know you're busy, but you can find 10 minutes. Have the tea. Read the book. Have your groceries delivered. You can do it.
Elizabeth & Sarah kick off this week with a brief conversation about the weather, their thin blood and how they would never survive in Russia. Then of course they dig into the pomp and circumstance of the Inauguration...the looks, the fireworks, the mittens! Skip to Tiny Pretty Things content around the 17:45 mark. This week the sisters dig into that ballet show on Netflix. What’s the name? Pretty Little Things, Pretty Tiny Things…(a Google search confirms)...Tiny Pretty Things. A messy show that’s filled with hot teens, butts, random couplings, fever dreams, too many storylines to keep track of, an assortment of character names and pretty amazing dancing. The biggest questions that arise during this episode. Is Netflix filming all their shows in Chicago now? What is the deal with that sauna? Why are the hot ballet teens not becoming Instagram influencers? Can Elizabeth say the name Oren correctly at least once? The answer to that last one is no. Also fun fact - a male ballet dancer is called a ballerino. Follow us on Instagram @myfavoritesisterpod

This week We Know Weho kicks off the Food & Fashion segment with an overview of West Hollywood Eat and Drink Week kicks off on October 23rd with an impressive list of local restaurants that are offering specials including a rooftop patio dining experience at the secretly exclusive Petit Ermitage. If you are a BBQ fan, you will want to take notes on the review from We Know Weho on Bludsoe's and the variety of savory proteins available for take out, delivery or curbside pickup. With the closing of Tortilla Republic, Tracy is elated to share the opening of famed chef Enrique Olvera's restaurant, Damian, in the Arts District downtown who brings his cooking talents from Pujol in Mexico City that has been featured on Netflix Chef's Table series. Menu items she can recommend from her culinary excursions to his two NYC restaurants include the gaucamole, ceviche and the hibiscus meringue. This week's guest feature is the one and only Larry Block from Blockparty Weho who is also on the ballot as a candidate for the upcoming West Hollywood City Council election. Larry is a 35 year West Hollywood resident who has owned a few shops in West Hollywood since 1985 after his move West from New York. Larry has been a long time city advocate and has served as the Chairman of the Public Facilities Commission from 2019-2020 and the Chairman of the Disability Advisory Board from 2013-2014. He has been active in local city issues including founding the term limit initiative and CrossSafeWeho, which led to the crosswalk updates. It was his idea to create the West Hollywood Green City Awards, and he founded the Disability Health Fair that brings free flu shots to residents each year. When Covid hit, Larry utilized his sourcing talents to acquire hard to find masks and led the masks for residents program. The BlockParty, his "mini gay department store", is celebrating its eleven year business anniversary on October 24th and was the winner of the 2019 Creative City Best Weho Attraction Award bestowed by the Chamber of Commerce. Be sure to check out the list of upcoming list of movies at the Andaz Drive-In for Halloween, and the huge pink spider dangling from the room of Pretty Little Things on Melrose Avenue is worth a walk or drive-by for your West Hollywood Halloween plans.
